  3. ^ Ya; the scoops are intakes for A/C. Pic might be pre-production: that looks like the GM Styling courtyard hexagonal pavers. Production S75's are basically trimmed like deVilles (rear cove & side trim) and that cove is filled with ribbed aluminum trim (here it looks painted). Eldorados & the Series 60 Special got the rear grillework and either full (E) or partial (S60S) side trim. I ? '60 Cadillacs.

  4. Like I said yesterday though, the Wrangler was a top optional truck from the start and actually ended up with better rollover protection than those rolling death traps of the sixties. Everyone else has tried to copy it and failed miserably.

  5. Yet somehow the Wrangler continues to succeed with the primitive approach and removable tops. Sounds like the new Bronco may have a version with such a configuration. Will be interesting to see if it works for them.

  6. And the Broncos, Scouts, Ramchargers, Blazers and Jimmies didn't even have normal convertible tops but primitive tops that snapped on and had to be manually removed. Very different from a proper power folding top like the Murano CC, Evoque, or T-Roc have...

  7. Really like this pic. Fleetwood Series 60 Special in the background- note the vinyl roof. Cadillac started this feature on the '56 Eldorado Seville… and when NOT padded / using small back windows or enlarged C-Pillars, it looks really classy / luxurious IMO.

  8. Correct; just did a amortization schedule online: $250,000 @ 4.5% for 30 yrs: first payment broke down as $329 principal / $839 interest. I know I saw it different years ago; mine initially was 8.25%- maybe it calculated differently @ higher rates. Plus; make sure you indicate any extra payments go to principal only.

  9. That's almost true (not 100%, more like 70-80%), but than all your extra payment goes directly toward paying the principal. So early on extra payments are very beneficial.

  11. Seems to do very well for Bose and many other high end products. Corvette is a bargain at the MSRP price and would not only simplify the sales experience but guarantee a consistent profit margin to the dealer. End result would be a win win for both GM and the dealer.

  15. No one bought the Murano or the Evoque and with good reason. They are useless in convertible form. Exactly. In this day and age of “safety first”, those things wouldn’t even be allowed on the road today as new models. There was also the issue of what to do with certain tops and if you had the hard vinyl tops (that were on the old 80s model K5s and Broncos), then there was the issue of leaving them at home if you want to drive topless and praying to god that it didn’t rain on you while you were out and about or in a store. It’s simple logic why those failed and it’s even simpler logic why they don’t work in their current form today but some oxymorons have to troll just for the sake of trolling I guess.

  19. Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the 2020 T-Roc Cabriolet ahead of the Frankfurt International Auto Show in September. Volkswagen says the T-Roc Cabriolet offers just the right combination of SUV flexibility and the open air experience of a convertible. The soft top opens in just 9 seconds, can open or close while the car is in motion up to 18.6 mph (30 km/h), and locks or unlocks electrically. On the safety front, the T-Roc Cabrio has roll-over protection. The system can detect a roll-over and the system springs upwards just behind the rear headrests. The windshield frame is also reinforced. It comes with an optional digital cockpit that has an "Always-On" connectivity to the internet and Volkswagen services. Two engines are available, a 1.0 three-cylinder engine with 113 horsepower or a 148 horsepower 1.5 liter four-cylinder. A 6-speed manual is standard on both engines while the more powerful engine also has a 7-speed DCT available as an option. Launching in Spring of 2020, the T-Roc Cabriolet remains Forbidden Fruit in the U.S. like its hard top brother. Volkswagen calls the vehicle in the pictures a "near-production" concept car, so expect some changes between now and launch.   20. Chevy released the pricing information on the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray today, keeping its promise of a sub-$60k price. Pricing rings up at $59,995 including destination charge for the 1LT trim. The Corvette comes standard with an eight-speed dual clutch transmission and an engine mounted dry sump oil system. The 2LT will start at $67,295 and adds things like a full color heads-up display, heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, performance data recorder, navigation, side blind zone alert, and rear cross traffic alert. The 3LT will start at $71,945, and builds on the 2LT with GT2 Seating with Napa and Mulan leather, custom leather-wrapped interior, suede-wrapped upper interior trim, and leather wrapped door panels. The price of the Z51 Performance package remains the same at $5,000 and includes performance exhaust, performance suspension, electronic limited-slip differential, front air splitter, rear spoiler, larger brakes with Brembo four-piston calipers, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires, and an enhanced cooling system. Customers can forgo the Z51 package and still get the performance exhaust for $1,195. This will boost the performance of the LT2 engine to 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The front suspension lift system is optional on 2LT and 3LT trims for $1,495. Customers will be able to personalize their Corvette with 12 different exterior colors, 6 interior color themes, six seat belt colors, two stitching packages, and three seat choices. Dealers that do that are a joke and in this day and age, it is pretty damn easy to make dealerships regret the practice of overcharging just because they can. For all of Tesla’s flaws, their sales model will eventually spread to others who will get tired of these shady dealers that do nothing but make potential customers run far away from thus killing the bottom line of the manufacturers for which they sell. People are slowly but surely seeing through the tactic and eventually, the rules will change, pishposh and all.

  28. I honestly do not see why GM cannot do what other companies like Bose does that sets a price and retailers are not allowed to sell it for more or less than the stated price. The additional market markups needs to be smacked down by the auto companies and they can do this by refusing to ship them products. I get what ever the market will bare, yet at the same time if GM is truly wanting to build goodwill, then they need to control their dealers and stop the stupid price add on's. I refuse to do business with dealers like that.

Again, exception to the rule and quite honestly, that K-5 doesn’t pull it off that well either but at least the top doesn’t eat the cargo space, which if you actually READ my follow up post, you’d see why I think the crap made in the last decade or so are perfect examples of absolute waste. The tops retract into the back of these things thus killing the otherwise open and taller entry for cargo. Add in the extra weight and puny engines carrying them, and you have the perfect recipe of waste. That’s my point since you didn’t bother to read or understand my other posts regarding these monstrosities. Oh and those old K-5 drop tops might have been the thing back then but when people realized they liked being dry with the top up in the rain, they fell by the wayside. An old friend of mine had one years ago and it was a leak monster. Who’s the moron now ??

  36. The Wrangler is an exception to the rule. It was built as a convertible from day one as a two door. Crap like the Murano, the Evoque, and now this hideous thing look absolutely hideous. It adds unnecessary weight to already underpowered CUVs/SUVs and reduces the biggest selling point of them, cargo room. Convertibles belong on two door cars and two door cars alone (Wrangler not withstanding).

I would think most consumers in the Spark/Sonic shopping tier would largely go to the pre-owned market in a hard downturn (not artificially effected by a ‘CfC’ program), not to mention CUVs are much closer in price to low-end cars than they were 10 years ago. I don’t expect the same dynamic of radical oil speculation to happen again, oil was down today with the news of an unexpected rise in supply. I think GM & Ford are safe in a future economic storm without small cheap cars.

  40. Point of clarification: early mortgage payments on a 30-yr are typically 100% interest for the first year and a half or thereabouts. You pay it down faster the later in the schedule you are. Get an amortization schedule from your lender. That said I agree with the above - pay down debt whenever you are able.
