Fine, but make them fee-free; only there to record events. NJ had scores of red light cameras, they were only revenue-generators and since, they've (miraculously) been removed after major backlash. There was also evidence they were causing accidents as people slammed on their brakes at the last second.3 points

An alarming percentage of 'for your safety' implementations are merely for revenue generation. Another story here in NJ where lawmakers wanted to institute penalties to employers who 'didn't pay workers what they said they would', which of course is laudable on the face of it… but you KNOW none of the fine money would go to any affected workers, but to the State. Hypocritical.2 points

I still see so many Teslas snugged up to superchargers in the AM; seems they don't care much to pay for electricity, even tho they have no issue dumping $100K on the vehicle itself. Weirdness.2 points

As I posted, this is probably one of the best looking CUVs MB has made in a while, yet is far from perfect and I have been looking at the pictures over and over and it finally dawned on me what makes this look cheap. Interiors are personal choice and I really do not have any big issue with it at this time as nothing stands out as glaring. OUTSIDE, Big issue with the following two things. The bloody CHEAP looking black fake plastic Gills on the front end with the black plastic mold around the wheel wells and bottom of doors and the back bumper and the second issue is that ugly silver painted after thought on the black rear bumper wrapping around the dual exhuast. To me, MB as a luxury auto company should have done something better than this as well as AMG is missing the flare on this model. To me this looks more like a top end regular CUV from MB.2 points

Maybe Mercedes should have done what Cadillac did with the XT5: ditch the third row entirely for trunk space. Those third-row seats should be used for storage, not passengers.2 points

It wouldn't be a $24,000 price jump(81k - 57k). The Navigator jumps from $73,205 to $77,555 from base to middle model. The Escalade jumps from $76,490 to $82,090 from base to the next model/trim.2 points

More than that, but those of us who have been driving a while have been trained to look in the mirrors. It would take a while to get used to looking at a different spot. The Center rearview mirror like Cadillac and Toyota have is different. You still look in the same spot for that. They don't work as well at night though.2 points

There is a Firebird with a Ferrari motor swap, this might be that car. More than 30 first responders from 10 Ohio departments dismantled Toyota Priuses on the Columbus Campus August 20-23. It was part of Columbus State’s Alternative-Fuel Vehicle Extrication Workshop. Faculty members taught firefighters the differences between traditional and alternative-fuel transport, including hybrid, electric, and compressed natural gas. Participants explored and drove different types of “alt-fuel” vehicles. They also learned how to quickly and safely disable them to remove passengers in emergency situations. A collaboration between Columbus State’s Automotive Technologies and Fire Science programs, the workshop is part of the college’s Pathways for Alternative-Energy Automotive Technicians initiative, funded by the National Science Foundation. Love technology and advancement...but this continues to come off as more of a concept car experiment than anything. Mirrors still work. Small gear shifters still work too, vs. haptic feedback buttons. Advance the efficiency, advance the refinement, advance the safety...but another HD camera and another screen? Interesting but not needed. Curious to see who and what gets this first, if anything, here.2 points

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has begun testing vehicles that have cameras in place of real mirrors. The request to test such devices goes back to March of 2014 when the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers along with Tesla filed a petition with the NHTSA to get approval to install based rear or side vision cameras and screens in their vehicles. Daimler filed a similar petition in 2015 for their heavy duty trucks. Japan and Europe have already approved the technology. The first car with cameras replacing the side mirrors was the Lexus ES sold in Japan, followed by the Audi e-tron in Europe back in December. Both vehicles are sold in the U.S. with standard mirrors instead of the cameras. Honda's coming Honda e will have the technology standard when it goes on sale in Europe later this year. Mirrorless systems are an area where the legislation has not yet caught up with the technology according to Mark Dahncke of Audi. View full article1 point

Exactly, that is another reason the slower charging wireless pad would be ideal/okay. It's just another thing to 'not think about'. Realistically, I typically only drive about 25 miles per day mon-fri. The lowest range EV would suffice for 99% of my trips. It's the random 100 mile days on the weekends that would be more of an issue and then visiting my brother/sister 5.5hrs away a couple times per year.1 point

It doesn't even have to be some super fast charger. It can go at whatever pace because it would be on it for long periods of time overnight. I would imagine a good 10-12 hours and I highly doubt you're using anywhere close to 200 miles of range a day. I think you'd start the day full or lose to full from a slow charging mat every day. Any estimate on the time it would take to charge on a wireless charger, dfelt? You would almost completely forget about gas stations or charging locations. It would be almost perfect. If I were to be picky, I'd want maybe 600 miles.. 500 miles would get me to my sister's place 5.5hrs away in the winter, with a 30% loss of range, with a dash to spare. That'd be a 350 mile range for winter(assuming worse case). Charging when I get there would be another situation all together but I could cross that bridge when I got there.1 point

Really, with the way people love to order their coffee / latte I think people want the flexibility to order up what they want on an Auto as long as they can get it fast same day I would think. Yup 500 miles and wireless charging pad in the garage is perfect.1 point

The GLB is a compact, not a sub-compact. The GLA is a sub-compact. Having looked at the pics of the third row I’m assuming that any kids that have to go back there are double leg amputees. I’ve said it before, if you need a third row for ANY reason, get a suitable size vehicle. Ones this size are purely a marketing gimmick IMO and a bad one at that.1 point

Definitely. It has to be pretty damn close to flat to appeal to me. Perfectly flat isn't necessary but it has to be damn close and it isn't so much needing the extra space but laying things flat that I just bought or am transporting is the concern.1 point

Sometimes I wonder if GM wants to succeed or not. If I were running GM, the first thing I would do is dramatically simplify the range of vehicles to the point where there is only ONE trim level per vehicle and price that vehicle very aggressively. Example: take a Chevy Equinox. Make it a fully-loaded Premier trim level ONLY and price it about $5000 below current prices. NO base model and no LT trim levels anymore. Rinse and repeat throughout the Chevy CAR line (not the pickup trucks or BOF SUVs!). Of course this will exclude the Corvette since that is the value leader of its segment. I believe that this will pull buyers to GM and push them away from Hyundai/KIA as well as Toyota and Honda. Your thoughts?1 point

Because your reply to Balthy implied that while there is a huge price gap between the ICE Sonic and EV Bolt because they are not sharing anything that the ICE Equinox and theoretical Equinox-sized EV would share things. I must be missing something because his comparison seemed straight forward and not apples and oranges. Sonic -> Bolt - 20k price gap Equinox -> EV Equinox-sized vehicle - theoretical 20k price gap Do we? They're still making advances in the internal combustion engine.I don't think they've maxed them out at all yet. They're just cracking into the variable compression engines and GM has brand new fancy technology in both the 2.7T and new 5.3.1 point

Mirrors aren't exactly cheap, either. Power control, sometimes heated, and almost always you have to buy the entire assembly. It's hundreds to start. All the 'side view camera' images David posted above suck- both in integration, and field of vision. A distraction. Only reason I can see for overly-complicating side views is for aerodynamics, tho at the average speed most cars travel, it's pointless.1 point
