As much as I dont mind EVs for our future and those EVs replacing ICE. As much as Im interested in buying an EV in the very near future, quite possibly my next vehicle purchase, I come across a youtube clip like the one below or I come across a 350 CI 1972 Stingray and I say: TO HELL WITH ELECTRIC MOTORS. I WANT A V8!!! The burble of that 472 (in the description it says its a 472) just makes me go crazy! I WANT!!! I wish I had Jay Leno money. Id buy a 1971 Fleetwood. Much like this one. Id do a complete restoration on it. The interior would be all Cadillac "standard of the world" levels of luxury and leathers and stuff. The mechanical stuff would all be restomodded and modern. Brakes and suspensions and steering all new technology from 2020. The engine. Id save this engine, and put her back in...OR...Id swap it for a modern LS or something. But Id try to replicate that burble. And...another project would come about. Id buy a 1996 Fleetwood Brougham. Complete restoration on her. Id keep the LT1 for another project. But Id do a REVERSE engine swap on this one. Instead of doing a modern (LS or Blackwing V8)engine swap in her, Id DEFINITELY try and find either a 472 or 500 Cadillac motor and dump her in there. I would want to hear that Cadillac Big Block burble coming from the last BOF Cadillac sedan.6 points

They are doing enough to survive, but competition is far greater these days compared to their heyday of the 90s and early 2k. Tesla has eaten up a lot of that market of entry lux vehicles with the 3 and Y, Porsche is no longer just a sports car company, Koreans are moving upmarket and investing a lot of coin attempting to do so.2 points

Still love that Buick...still think they are cool.... It took a while for the Malis to grow on me, but they have. I also like their “small Impy brother” look too. Makes me miss the Impala. ? . These do look real nice in RS trim....2 points

The days of BMW doing simple RWD sport sedans with a bit of luxury are over because everyone wants faster numbers.. more HP, lower 0-60, more ultimate grip. Everything is digital now for all mfgs, it is a lot easier to drive fast without skill with cars basically doing the work for you and removing risk with torque vectoring AWD systems and nannies, but the connection to the road for the driver is gone, whether sedans, CUVs or even sports cars. BMW is doing very well regardless, their sales went up in 2019 and USA is not their core market, it is less than 20% of their sales. Just because they don't build what they used to and you romanticize but bought something that wasn't anything like them doesn't really matter, the market has spoken. Oh and an Acura fan poking fun at BMW Infotainment is priceless..1 point

Yes, traveling after the current situation maybe..once things get to the 'new normal'...those '93-96 Fleetwoods/Fleetwood Broughams had GM corporate (Chevy) 5.7L V8s, incl. the LT1 in '95-96 IIRC. Always liked those cars, the last of the big RWD BOF Caddies...1 point

Growing up we had a farmer neighbor who's wife had that exact mid 90's (think it was a '95) Fleetwood Brougham same gray/pewter color even. She was a Beaut, chrome was always shined up!! Super smooth ride, last of the big, old school RWD Caddy cruisers with the venerable LT1 350cid V8. That '71 "Fleet" is quite the masterpiece as well. And you're right it does sound amazing!1 point

It is rather interesting that while Nissan/Infiniti are circling the drain, Acura is struggling because of what the Koreans are doing. Oldsmobile reached its sales peak in 1986 when half of the models sold were the rear-drive G-body Cutlass Supreme models. Once that was replaced by the W-body in 1988, Olds was losing lot of sales (at least until the first Aurora). By the time the Intrigue and the Alero showed up, Olds was on its way out for good. If Acura was meant to replace Olds, it has wildly succeeded. BMW of course is a tougher nut to crack. Pontiac has been replaced by Nissan and Honda/Acura will probably replace Nissan sooner than any of us think.1 point

Today is Trump's birthday. It's also Flag Day. Fortunately, Father's Day is next Sunday. They often feature articles which rank the Presidents in terms of IQ. I wonder where "the Donald" would land if they ranked Presidents in terms of the holiday worthiness of their birthdays. So far, only 2 Presidents have qualified for such an honor. After visiting the UVa again in the recent past, it reinforces how I've always felt - that Thomas Jefferson's birthday should be celebrated, but it's too close to Easter (and Passover) and he also had a kinky side that history has downplayed.1 point

• Bolted rear suspension back up (lower shock mounts & Panhard Bar) and sat the car back on the floor (in the rear). • cleaned / lubed the vent window regulators; bagged & put on the shelf. • started poking around with the seat belt situation. Front lap belts were not required by federal statue until Jan of '66, tho GM began installing threaded bosses for front lap belts for the '62 model year. Obviously there's nothing on my car from the factory for belts. I have a pair of period (aftermarket) belts I already dyed black, but some of the mounting hardware seems to be MIA. I hate the modern 'tight weave' nylon look in a car this old, but without those MIA brackets, I can't even install these 2 pair. Researching options.1 point

Great points, I have so much more to add to this, but I will refrain from most. I will add, Hey has anyone heard what's going on in Seattle? That was a rhetorical question I know you all have. Yeah, lets not bring up that the Seattle Mayor is encouraging the actions of the anarchists and Antifa cowards, in her words it's "just a Summer Block Party" talk about complete incompetence in the local government. All the WA State Gov. can say is "Oh I haven't heard about it" He's completely full of it! Seattle Police can't safely do their job and had to abandon an entire East Precinct in the area because the Mayor banned the use of flash bangs, pepper spray and tear gas used for unruly and/or criminal minded crowds, and yes a local liberal judge cleared the ban. So basically, no non-lethal way of subduing or dispersing the crowd of criminals and militant anarchists carrying AR-15's at checkpoints of a still confused naming of CHAZ or CHOP "Autonomous Zone" and No Cop Co-op with a list of demands before they give up the 6 block area around the East Precinct. They ONLY want to Fully Defund the Police, Free Education for all and a few other far Left Socialist agenda items that I don't care to list. Yeah, sounds like a great place to live right about now... Just heard today that the Hells Angels are planning a trip to Seattle with other bikers to see what they can do to help "encourage" the morons to leave the area. Just might force the Mayor to do her job and let the local police do theirs. We won't go into the massive issue of homeless drug addicts defecating on the streets of downtown Seattle also something that the Mayor won't do anything about...good luck with no Summertime tourists. Who wants to visit a wasteland? I had the "pleasure" of visiting Seattle for work not long ago and let me tell you, it was a disaster. There's a Huge difference in the way a Red State is governed over a Blue State in this country. Flash bangs and tear gas are used here in AZ if needed, and guess what? the anarchist cowards know they can't get away with that BS here or TX or FL or even NC where police dismantled an Antifa attempt at an Autonomous Zone that failed big time in downtown Asheville. I'll state it again, RULE OF LAW is in place in the U.S.A. as well as other industrialized countries for a reason...it's VERY effective. https://www.king5.com/article/news/local/protests/seattle-capitol-hill-autonomous-zone-chaz-protests-black-lives-matter/281-c07d3974-9993-4f67-a84d-4ffc92ad62bd https://www.cbs17.com/news/police-dismantle-roadblock-built-by-protesters-in-asheville/1 point

That’s why I like it here, it’s like family (or maybe some crazy uncles ? ) We just accept each other the way we are..... It’s hard to not to dab into politics now, as it seems like nearly everything is intertwined in it. (Cartoons?) But for the most part, everyone gets along. There are some crazy days, but life would be boring if we agreed with everything.... ?1 point

I don't see where Oldsmobile fits and would have enough sales to be around still. Do we really need more 1.5t, 2.0t and 3.6L CUV's from GM?0 points

Ok quick, I have seen tests of the M550i at 3.6 seconds as you stated and the M5 at 2.9. The M760 and M8 are in the 3’s so are the Alpinas. Even the Supra and Z4 have sub 4 second 0-60 and plenty of handling prowess. I am not a BMW fan and never was, but to criticize their performance compared to any luxury brand from Asia or America is ridiculous. Aside from the NSX the most powerful Acura is like 315 hp and it is on a Honda minivan platform so I don’t want to hear about “driver engagement” on anything Acura makes outside of the NSX which sells like 200 a year.-1 points

I watched TFL Car track test an Infiniti QX50 which has similar performance numbers to the RDX against a Mercedes GLC43 and it wasn’t event remotely close and we aren’t even talking GLC63. Suggesting any Acura outside of NSX is on par with a BMW or Mercedes is like saying a Honda Accord has performance and fun factor to rival a Camaro or Mustang. And even the NSX is 1 second slower around the Nurburgring than the BMW M5. NSX is over 30 seconds a lap behind the AMG GT Pro. Acura doesn’t know performance.-1 points

What BMW was 40 years ago doesn’t have an effect on what they are now. If the 2002 was around now no one would buy it. Look at Mini, small cars don’t sell. Everyone survives off SUVs, it is the #1 selling body style. Not having 5 SUVs in your lineup is just foolish, whether you are a luxury line or not. Look at Ford/Lincoln and that are killing all cars but Mustang. BMW didn’t kill the 3-5-7-series they are still there as they always were, people just pick the SUV instead.-1 points
