  1. I had sooooo wanted to post a 1955 Chieftain when I posted the Buick pic a couple of days ago. I just ran out of steam. I have been tired from work these past few days. I was just too lazy to search for the perfect picture of one. But then Balthy posted the front end. Great minds think alike. So Ill do Balthy, myself and the car some justice right now.

  6. 1957 exercise for the '60 DeSoto. That body line / sculpting is just high art. Throw a '61 Chrysler 300-esque nose on, with canted headlights and a trapezoid grille, and I'm all over it like wallpaper cement :

  8. the Trailblazer and Encore GX should have the 1.5 litre motor and 9 speed auto spec that is currently in the Terrain. Higher hp and the 9 speed compared to the Malibu. I guarantee you those little mites would actually get the same real world or better mpg....not working as hard. Reality is, a 3 cylinder has only 3 expensive pistons and 12 expensive valves and their operating parts, vs. 16. Look at all the money saved on fuel injection also etc. It's a scam to save money, that's why they do it. Build it outside the US also, more and more. If they can make the engine as smooth, 3 vs 4, i have no issues with that...but please bump the displacement to 1.5 and add some horsepower and more torque so its a good roadworthy vehicle. When the newer design 2.0 is offered in the Equinox and Terrain, that automatic makes them worthy of consideration again. The Malibu would benefit from the new 2.0 also. Why they can't be low cost powertrain only options, shows you the restrictions and regulations getting in the way of offering products.

  9. An interesting take. I trust Bloomberg news for the most part, they are fairly sane. Old cars and high horsepower never gets old...

  12. According to the Detroit Free Press, GM has moved ahead with a $75 million investment in Lordstown Motors EV auto company. This is a $25 million cash and $50 million non-cash investment of plant and equipment of what was owed to GM for the plant. This allows Lordstown Motors to move forward with a IPO offer that "I Believe GM can cash in on." Lordstown Motors in their IPO paperwork is showing presales of 27,000 trucks so far and what will be a use of GM / LG Battery packs for their trucks if I am reading the vague details right. https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/general-motors/2020/08/03/gm-invest-ev-maker-lordstown-motors/5571007002/

  13. And I am unconvinced the group building it has the moxy to keep production going. Methinks Ohio would have been better off flattening the building. Once companies realize how much they can save on fuel, I can see short haul trucks becoming largely electric. These posts of fine ladies keep me coming back... My comment about blu and David made me think of this video, funny to watch.

  15. I agree with reg in that ICE vehicles are getting short shrifted in development on purpose to force ppl into inferior, impractical EVs. Barra, for example, has all but admitted this BS and is actually proud of it. What folly. Encore GX/Trailblazer should have had the 1.3t standard, and the 1.5t optional... or better yet, a NA 4 of larger displacement.

  16. Yamaha has moved beyond Electric motors for small sub subcompact auto's and Motorbikes. They have released their first 150kW motor for use in full size auto's. Have to say they have built a very good looking future motor. This is expected to be used in an AWD configuration, one in front and one in back. Each motor is equal to 201.15 HP, so an AWD auto would have 402.3 HP. Instant Torque, though they do not mention how much. Considering the torque that is being brought from Zero, I would expect these motors to be equal to if not double or triple the HP numbers. Having looked at multiple math sites, it would seem that one motor unit would have 1000lb ft of torque from zero, so 2000 lb ft of torque for an AWD setup. Yamaha has also now stated they have a 200 kW motor in the same housing which is equal to 268.2 HP or 536.4 HP in AWD. As available crate motors it will be interesting to see who uses the motors first. Interesting that they are using an Alfa Romeo 4C. Makes one wonder if FCA / Stellinous is going to use them in an EV option. Using the math calculators online, it would seem 1400 lb-ft of torque for the 270HP unit, or 2800 lb-ft of torque in AWD. Talk about crushing performance. 19. It really is. I don’t care for small cars and I like this one. LTZ turbo hatch; a base sedan would obviously be less appealing.

  20. Interesting to see how people seem to think there are no lower priced EVs when there are. The big issue is that most people do not want the base EVs, they want the fully loaded all the bells and whistles and as such, we are not seeing those sell. I agree that as the charging networks expand and prices come down, that we will see more adoption of the lower maintenance longer lasting EVs over the high maintenance ICE auto's. I also agree with you that the whole push for ICE auto's with 3 banger motors is a joke. Turbo all they want, the life of those engines are going to be short.

  21. This would be the ride across the pond to New York, parked at the gate at Frankfurt airport, Lufthansa's home base. Kudos to Lufthansa for being the launch customer for the B 747-8i. I applaud people who were brave enough to take German in high school or college. They just join words together to make mega-words with 20 letters in them. And to think of all those poor immigrants from Southern Europe and the Middle East living in Germany who have to learn them. For example, an "auditor" is a "wirtschaftsprufer" (with 2 dots over the u) in their lingo.
