What I really came onto the forum to say tonight ... About a year and a half ago, I bought a sofa and another upholstered piece for the living room. Given my control oriented nature, I ordered it. I hate that the trendy thing is to have pillows that have some wild pattern when the body color of a sofa or a chair is solid. So I ordered everything solid. This salesman, who was younger but NOT pushy, helped me with selecting the upholstery while I had the model/frame already selected. The fact that he didn't push me when I first went into the store to look around is what got him the sale. The items arrived early, were set up, and they looked better than I could have imagined. I sent him a brief e-mail thanking him and telling him how good they looked and attached a photo of each of the two pieces. No response. Tonight, I went in there since I am tentatively looking for another piece for another room. He was there. I hope he didn't see me. I talked to the salesperson who greeted me. (I learned covid has pushed delivery times for factory orders back in a big way.) My attitude is that if the previous salesman couldn't respond with "thank you" or "glad to have helped" like a person with the minimal people skills for sales, I shouldn't be that concerned whether or not he got my business in the future.3 points

Yes! I was looking at pics of it last night, I like the styling inside and out... very sharp and unique. A bit of randomness..my father would have been 99 today.3 points

I'm pretty sure the only GM models sold by GM in Australia in the 80s were Holdens. Anything else would have been a one-off. And the Firebird was never available in RHD from the factory, so this was something custom. A 4 cyl w/ an automatic in something that big and heavy would have been miserable, even in the early 80s, I suspect---like 20 second 0-60 times... maybe it was an Aussie Knight Rider fan on a budget.2 points

I think they still use that as a base motor for full size pickup trucks. But if I was going to buy a GM truck, the only configuration I really like is the ZR2 Colorado. Hyundai is the most dynamic car maker right now in terms of what they are doing. Again, would prefer a colorado ZR2 Diesel myself....but that is a damn nice truck. Not really a red guy either when it comes to trucks, but I had a red S-10 that was fantastic back in the day. I really want a Shi-Tzu. Such well behaved, gentle dogs. Or a Jack Ruseel terrier to terrify my cats, I can't decide which. Actually, I am kind of Bipolar, maybe one of each.2 points

Labradoodles and goldendoodles are now fairly established. I don't know much about their pros and cons. These are now called "designer" dog breeds, specifically bred to cross two sets of qualities they want to combine. Within the last week, I saw a photo of a combination of a Bernese Mountain Dog (one of the best dogs around) with a poodle. You should have seen the price on it. It was a beautiful dog. Dogs are not cheap these days. Someone explained to me that, since people are increasingly warming up to the reality that, in shorthand, people suck, the demand for household pets, and especially select breeds, has gone up.2 points

Looks like about 13 secs to 60 for the 2.3L Mustang. Commuter-grade motion.1 point

The truck is probably just an appliance to them...most drivers don't know what is under the hood---just a power unit for their appliance.1 point

I believe the Iron Duke was first used in Chevy II in the early 60's.1 point
But I heard that the "Iron Dukes" did not fare well over the long haul.
I've heard the opposite, that tho they weren't exciting, they had very good longevity/reliability.1 point

I had an ‘86 Mustang LX 2.3 in college, at least it had a manual (though only a 4spd). At least it was light enough to get out of its own way. My 5.0 GT was more fun to drive.1 point

Over all not bad, but the rear reminds me of the funky Infinity CUV that was shaped like this. Not a big fan. wait and see but from the C to D pillar is just weird to me and then the Jelly Bean back end. Meh1 point

My wife had a 90-hp Mustang in this time period. It was fine as a commuter vehicle. It wasn't fast, but it wasn't mercedes diesel slow, either.1 point

People do suck, more and more each day. Disgusted with the political negativity in the country. I can pick on my own side of the fence....the number of liberal friends of mine who would celebrate if Amy Comey Barret chocked on a piece of chicken in a resteraunt and died is amazing. I want a dog, a pickup truck, and the open road. I need to re read Travells with Charlie. https://www.amazon.com/Travels-Charley-Search-America-Steinbeck/dp/0140053204 This also looks like a good read. https://www.amazon.com/Outbreak-Crisis-Religion-Ruined-Pandemic/dp/B08L2HSVS8/ref=pd_lutyp_wsixn_v2_6_4/143-4699616-0598161?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B08L2HSVS8&pd_rd_r=8f410600-f449-4eb3-86e6-60a60af5d0c9&pd_rd_w=bDIoO&pd_rd_wg=0rFeF&pf_rd_p=5046f028-98e3-42b1-9847-47bc0a965eea&pf_rd_r=DGMN2NC7M83VRTTMK7KV&psc=1&refRID=DGMN2NC7M83VRTTMK7KV1 point

It must be an absolute dog of a car with only 90hp.1 point

Strong fan base for Firebirds tho.1 point

Tzus are nice. At some point, I'd like to have a West Highland White Terrier (Westie) again or an Australian Terrier again...have had them in the past, love their personalities and temperament. Westies are calmer than Aussies, the 3 Aussies we've had tended to be bipolar...sweet and loving one moment, bitey and ferocious the next.1 point

Really odd someone would go to the trouble to import and convert to RHD a 4cyl Firebird...maybe a V8 Trans Am, Formula or GTA of that generation, but a 4cyl? Those things were 90-hp turds...1 point

Wasn't that new, lower price bump v. the price of the optional 6.2L gas engine or something like that? I forget now. Nice truck, I'm not a red guy though (for vehicles anyway)1 point

Of the 'designer' breeds, I like Yommies (Yorkie-Pomeranian) , Yorkipoos (Yorkie-Poodle) and Morkies (Yorkie-Maltese). For some randomness, saw a TV ad for the GMC Hummer EV...I rarely see TV ads, but I was streaming a documentary on the Ark Royal and it had ads.1 point

Yes, I have stayed very active here at home working out. Thank you I have a PreCore treadmill, so 1hr of running a day, then using barbells I have at home along with kettle balls I do lunges, pushups, a variety of core exercises. Gotta keep going since I am not going to the gym to protect my wife and kids. Stay active, stay safe.1 point

Consumer reports has tested in depth and stated that Tesla AutoPilot is a DISTANT second place to GM's Super Cruise. Even European testing has put Tesla in 6th place out of 10 systems that were tested. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-autos-selfdriving-safety/tesla-autopilot-a-distant-second-to-gms-super-cruise-in-hands-free-test-consumer-reports-idUSKBN27D1B7 https://www.cnbc.com/2020/10/28/gms-super-cruise-tops-teslas-autopilot-in-consumer-reports-testing.html https://www.autonews.com/regulation-safety/gms-super-cruise-rated-ahead-tesla-autopilot-consumer-reports1 point

Even though it won't be happening, I could use something like an old school GM 4.3 V6 with TBI under the hood of my next car.1 point

Man. I didn't say I liked her or didn't like her. I just was capitalizing on posting that vintage photo that has made me laugh for years and years. And I had to get a "down vote" for doing so. Too funny.1 point

Nice! Yeah, we had 3 S10 4.3L pickups in our electrical contracting fleet of 14 service and install trucks at one time including full-size vans and other trucks in the early to mid 90's. Ladder rack, canopy and a ton (literally) of weight in tools and parts on the S10's. They were well maintained and just kept going with well over 150k mi. on the odo, no down time ever, always kept the business crankin'.1 point

This is what you get from a barely hanging on NIMOCO, a brand new 3.8L V6 that only has an additional 2 hp and 6 lb.-ft. than GM's class competitive 5 yr. old 3.6L V6. Basically identical output from a larger displacement NA V6. I had this SAE cert'd. (traditionally a lower output rating but more accurate) 308hp/275 lb.-ft. 3.6L LGZ truck version in a '17 Colorado 4x4 Z71, it's a strong high-output engine for it's size and proves it here. Nissan better hope they can sell more new Frontier's than this old one to compete with the class leading GM twins and Taco to try to help pull them out of their company wide abysmal sales numbers.1 point

Or in Nissan terms, not a NISMO, GT-R or SE-R spec....just a basic pickup, torque counts for hauling stuff...1 point

HP in trucks is not something to max.... who's gonna race the thing making it turn above 6500rpm? edit, it's not an SS, or Cyclone type truck1 point
-
It could use more torque, because truck, but isn't 281 still more than the other N/A V6's? Tacoma 3.5: 265tq Gladiator 3.6: 260tq GM 3.6: 275tq As it turns out, yes. Yes, it is more than the others in its field. The only competitor that ousts it is the 2.3 with 310tq but much less horsepower at 270.1 point

The one that's not in a truck? Truck engines are always tuned down and designed more for hard work and reliability.1 point

The new 3.8 liter V6 is less powerful than the Nissan 3.7 liter V6 that made 328 hp 10 years ago.-1 points
