Numbers lie... even Cadillac numbers. The CT5 does not feel as roomy inside as a 5-series. All of this aside here's what Cadillac is doing. I can get into a CT5-V (not Blackwing) for $47,695. With that I get a 350 HP V6 and a nice leather interior while over at Benz I'm stuck in a C300 with plastic seats, measly 255hp turbo 4 for the same price. That is a very easy decision to make.4 points

What's Mercedes doing leaving $110 grand "on the table" when they claim the Maybach S650 "competes" with the Rolls Royce Ghost ($315K)?? Being "nice" there, or just "bean counting"? Do those models in fact NOT compete because of sticker? Do tell.3 points

@surreal1272 No one wants more coal power plants. However, need to look realistically how to replace old power plants with renewable sources. For example, NJ nuclear power plant has an output of 1172MW. The average wind turbine has an output of 1.67MW. So for NJ to replace our old nuclear plant will require 702 wind turbines. Another calculation is that per some regulations with the allowable space between wind turbines it comes out to 10MW of wind power per square mile, meaning NJ will need 117.2 square miles of wind turbines to replace one nuclear power plant. Just putting things in perspective.3 points

Way to miss the point entirely. There is training for just about every job out there if one were so inclined to get off their ass and look. Read my entire statement (the one above your comment) on that instead of cherry picking the one little piece that doesn’t tell the whole story. Old industry being replaced by new industry is practically the backbone of this country. It all started with the industrial revolution.3 points

First, as @Drew Dowdellhas stated, it's not quite as large or roomy as those vehicles. Also, if they're built here and not imported, there are less costs associated allowing them to charge less. I know not 40k less, but less, is less.2 points

@ykX @ccap41 @balthazar thanks for the info guys, here is where Washington State is at, we have the final Coal power plant scheduled for decommission in 2025. The huge 1000 acre open pit coal mine is being leveled as it will be covered in Solar panels to replace the power created by the coal power plant. They are also installing in one area that is tall hills with strong winds wind turbines. Currently our states electricity is produced in the following: % from Coal = 8.9% % from hydroelectric = 63% % from natural gas = 8.6% % from nuclear = 8.6% % from solar = .1% % from wind = 9.2% Total MegaWatts produced = 9,248 In Washington, a Coal-Fired Power Plant Will Put Its Money on the Sun | NRDC Washington - State Energy Profile Analysis - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)2 points

This article is about the CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwing cars that are very well equipped, loaded in fact, with real carbon fiber inside and out and now you've flipped it again by talking about the base model CT5. Here's a refresher if this article wasn't enough. https://www.cadillac.com/future-vehicles/ct5-v-blackwing The CT5 you say you sat in was probably a base model Luxury trim, often times the auto shows only have what the local dealer has available at the time. The CT4 and CT5 I sat in at the my local auto show were the well equipped Premium Luxury trim, not the base or high end Sport or V Series trims. The CT5 I've driven was a loaded V Series. Similar to this $67k example...definitely an E Class competitor.2 points

The latest Morgan Stanley report on the US Power Generation by source is predicting that Coal will be a dead industry in the US for power production by 2033 due to submission of decommission applications to the US Energy Administration. While Coal will still be taken from the ground, it will be for use to China and other countries that are still dependent on coal for electrical production. The report goes on to say that 55% of US electrical production will be from Green sources of energy such as Solar, Wind, Hydro and the rest will from from Natural Gas and Nuclear. Why is this important to the auto industry, easy with the change over to EVs, the electrical production industry is planning for the need for redundant power sources to fuel everything from EVs to cell phones, homes and businesses. Coal will be gone from US power by 2033 – Morgan Stanley - Electrek First it does have to do with the existing and still in production of T230 Diesel versions and now they have Electric versions that are expected to replace diesel. Sunlight still comes through the clouds and reflects off the suspended particles. Light is light.2 points

German Company MAFI which is well known globally for their yard Goat T230 Diesel tractors that have been used to move freight containers around has introduced the T230e all electric yard goat. MAFI states that the new T230e has all the same standards as the diesel T230 but even more comfort for the driver, no noise or emissions so it is better for the food industry and can operate during the night as well as near residential areas where the lack of noise will enhance it's operation. It retains the same tight small turning radius and with a 177 kWh battery pack can run all day under heavy load without having to recharge till the work shift is done much the same way that the Diesel have been used. This will allow shipping companies to remove diesel fueling systems and holding tanks as they phase out older T230 for new T230e. MAFI did state they will continue to build for orders that come in the T230 diesel version, but will be focused on transiting to EV versions for the future globally. Canada and the PNW steams all have that lite bluish or a turquoise glow as it is all glacier water. The sediment suspended in the water with light from the sun reflecting causes this affect. Good but basic explanation here: Why Are Glacial Lakes Blue? - WorldAtlas2 points

^ Agreed. Battery costs per kW have halved or the like, but that savings hasn't been extended to the consumer. Also seeing increasing real world reports that the maintenance & 'fueling' costs are higher than the common narrative is. I think a huge portion of non BE owners think Teslas get free electricity. Add the high relative sticker to the evaporation of tax credits and you're not going to come out ahead. That's been the cornerstone of the BE narrative, and people vote with their wallets. 2035 in some states/towns is going to be a major clash between consumer & gov't.1 point

I think the point is that you're not getting comparable performance because you can't get a C43 for that money. You'd still get a turbo 4 for 50k. While I agree it will continue to outsell them, the sample size is less than a year thus far. This isn't a question of sale. The point is you get more at Cadillac, regardless of what actually sells.1 point

Honest to god I would take my Ranger over anything in that garage. My dream car garage would be my Ranger, a Motorcycle, and time to enjoy both. This might rank in the top 7 or 8 post war cars for me. But you will kill me....I still like the 65-70 Mustang fastbacks better. Power wagon.1 point

^ Right; NJ just doesn't have the open real estate for huge infrastructure changes. I've already heard significant outrage against off-shore wind farms here. There's only 3 hydro-electric dams in the state, and 2 combined only produce 3.5 mW (the other: 453 mW). Nuclear and natural gas have, so far, proven to work the best with the grotesque population density and terrain here. I'm sure the balances between sources can be modified...1 point

Interesting. I think we sometimes tend to think that, because energy requirements are continually growing over time, that power generators are somehow immune from economic / market place factors. Further, and that a successful business case for them also needs to be present.1 point

"In 2019, renewable energy generated 8% of the electricity generated in Illinois, and in-state renewable electricity has almost tripled since 2010.106 Wind is the primary renewable resource used for electric power generation in the state. In 2019, wind provided 97% of the state's renewable energy generation, and Illinois was sixth in the nation in utility-scale (1 megawatt or greater) wind capacity, with about 5,200 megawatts online. The state has considerable additional wind power potential, and about 1,200 megawatts of capacity is either under construction or in advanced development. Biomass, along with hydroelectric power and solar photovoltaic (PV) facilities, together account for less than 0.4% of Illinois' electricity generation. More than half of this is provided by biomass, mainly from municipal landfills. The state has many rivers, but its relatively level terrain limits hydroelectric potential, and 0.1% of the state's electricity generation is provided by hydroelectric power. Solar power provides less than 0.1% of the state's net generation. However, solar PV use has grown rapidly in the last decade. Almost three-fourth of the state's solar PV generation in 2019 came from customer-sited, small-scale generation, mostly rooftop solar panels. Illinois generates more electricity from nuclear energy than any other state, accounting for one-eighth of the nation's total nuclear power generation. In 2019, 54% of electricity net generation in Illinois was produced by the state's 6 nuclear power plants with their 11 reactors. The nuclear plants are all ranked among the 10 largest power plants in the state by electricity generation, and 5 of the 6 are among the 10 largest by capacity. Because of economic issues in the electricity market, two nuclear power stations, the Clinton and Quad Cities nuclear plants, were scheduled to close in 2017 and 2018, but the Illinois legislature in late 2016 approved Zero Emissions Credits for nuclear generators to keep the stations operating for another decade. NJ renewable source of electricity is only 5% at the moment. Most of the electricity (over 90%) comes from natural gas and nuclear (about half and half). I think there is a plan to build wind farms of the shore but it will be awhile till they come online IMO.1 point

I work with a team in Cork Ireland and with the lock down, only a single family member is able to go out once a day to shop for needed items. They said if it cannot be delivered to you via Amazon or some other company shopping is pretty much dead right now and a good chance that there will be an extension of the lock down due to the mutation of Covid-19 that is killing more than the old one did there. The team says they are all waiting in their homes, working where they can till the gov comes to their home or directs them to a site for vaccination. Crazy, but seems to be really bad. Some of the guys said that so many ignored the warnings and went about doing xmas as usual and that just spiked the infections. Scary times for sure.1 point

FORD CEO Jim Farley gave an interview on CNBC today and has made a commitment to the stock holders and public that he will "Lay out the Entire Picture" of the companies EV plans over the coming couple months. This plan will provide a clear and decisive plan for the company as the auto industry transitions to an all electric auto portfolio. In the first 4 months as CEO Ford stock are up 60% as the public are excited with where Ford is going, paying off debt and having a clear and decisive vision for the company. Per CEO Farley, "2021 is our year of Action". The CEO has accelerated the $11 billion global restructuring plan launched under his predecessor in 2018 that Farley helped design as second in command at the time. This included the shedding of 14,000 jobs, revamping global operations and ending auto production in Brazil. Ford is focused on ensuring the best quality of build for the Mach-E, F150 EV and the Transit Van EV. Mr. Farley also said that fans of ICE auto's should enjoy the next couple of years as they launch the final generation of engines in new products such as the Bronco. Jim Farley also stated that EVs need to be open to everyone and Ford has a plan to deliver from entry level EV to Luxury level allowing all to move to an EV. In the interview it was clearly pointed out that Ford seems to be working under two out of sync clocks compared to GM which has heavily restructured, pulled out of money loosing markets and embraced a full EV plan for the current decade which has left GM with a market value of almost $80 Billion compared to Fords Market Value of $40 billion. This has Morgan Stanly upgrading GM in the near term and downgrading Ford in the near term. Farley has stated that he plans to deliver such proof to show that the Mach-E is not a one off success and that the rest of the company can transition sooner than later to an EV portfolio that will deliver world class auto's for both on road and off road use. Farley points to the announcement earlier this week with Google which saw the Ford Stock price jump 8.6%. Morgan Stanley does see that this tie-up will generate a estimated $9 billion revenue stream of which $5 billion is to be a profit for Ford. Investors have criticized Jim Hackett for his lack of urgency and transparency with a 5yr restructuring plan, investors seem to be much happier with CEO Farley who accelerated the plan from 5 into 3 years. The 2019 share of so-called 'renewable' energy sources was 17%, but note that that also includes such sources as wood, landfill gases, solid waste and geothermal. Nuclear was 19%. There's only been 2 nuclear plants built in the last 25 years; track record there for increased output is poor. I like the concept of hydro-electric generation, but the infrastructure there is the oldest of all sources, and the backlash against hydro-electric dams by environmentalists in recent years is becoming a formidable issue. They're also significantly restricted by geography.1 point

UK new auto sales plummet 40% in January 2021 due to Covid-19. UK new car sales slump around 40% in lockdown January (trust.org) EU electric and plug-in hybrid new car sales pass 1 million for 2020. This is a big change from the 387,808 sales in 2019 to 1.046 million reported in 2020. Petrol sales fell 37% and Diesel sales fell 32%, yet petrol based auto's still make up 48% of EU sales. Reuters news is reporting that Toyota and Fiat Chrysler have dropped their support and lawsuit against California carb and joined the global auto industry in supporting CARB and EVs. This takes Hyundai Motor, Kia Motor, Mitsubishi Motors, Mazda Motor and Subaru who had signed onto the dual joint lawsuit filed by Toyota and Fiat Chrysler firmly into the support of the current administration and California with it's right to enforce their CARB mandate. The National Automobile Dealers Association also reconfirmed their original support with Ford Motor Co, Honda, VW and BMW who originally in 2019 struck a voluntary agreement with California on CARB disagreeing with the federal administration in office at that time. At this time no automotive company is fighting California and their CARB board and all have committed to building EVs and Hydrogen auto's in support of changing over to green energy auto's. Your points are horrible as usual. Because, price point, is right. We aren't talking about a $350k Rolls Royce we're talking about the same class of luxury cars within the usual delta price range, you brought up the cheap Econbox cars and a muscle car that only has the V8 in common. Right, it's not just about horsepower and size it's also about fit and finish and quality of all materials especially inside...like the luxury class interiors that Cadillac, BMW and MB have that a Dodge, Kia or Hyundai DO NOT have.1 point

A feasible rendering of the Z06 version of the C8 which the rendering mimics the C8R to a tee as reference. (it IS the C8R. The C7 and C6 Z06s do really mimic their respective 'R' versions) The rest are high priced toys. Functional toys. In the same spirit as that poster. Maybe you'll think Im crazy, but besides the wedge shape and the Countach being lower to the ground, the Countach, seems to me at least, to be taking some took cues from a Charger. The side stylings and certain lines of the Lambo are more pronounced and more dramatic, but I could see a slight influence there. I came to this conclusion when I saw a video from a stupid (young...in his 20s) youtuber claiming to never see your idols in person. (He was referencing human idols such as a popstar of some sort or athlete to a car). In this case, he was disappointed with the Countach because as he stated, he was expecting to see a car with lots of curves and all he saw was just a weird shaped with lots of straight lines and not one hint of a curve anywhere on the car. Well...he is right about that. That the Lambo has no swoopy curves. Its all wedges. But you dont need to see that in person. You could see that from a photograph. I started analyzing the design language of the Lambo when I realized how similar the lines are to the Charger. Its only perception tho. I could be waaaay off. (I dont think so...)1 point
