  1. Yes, that's been my experience w/ my Jeep. First keyless start vehicle I've had, and can't imagine going back to twisting a key.

  2. Yeah, I'm quite certain people didn't stop buying coupes and convertibles because they're powered by an ICE.

  3. Still think if people want a convertible down the road of future BEV, they will get made on the 4 door auto's. I personally like the T top thing over the Convertible thing.

  4. Not much to report. I'm driving it 90% of the time vs. the '04, just not going many miles. In a bit of a lull at the moment- just a tick over 1400 miles & about halfway thru my 3rd tank of fuel. Actually... that's about right; say 800 miles/mn = 9600/yr. OK, I'm on target. I feel like the trans is learning my driving style, as it seems to be slightly 'snappier' (I have a lead foot). I did try a dead stop/full throttle start... but I had it in normal mode and (I just remembered!) traction control on. No squealy, will try again, 'cause it feels quick enough to lay rubber from a stop. 3 times to date it has done this weird thing where you press the starter button and it just cranks- I only let this happen 2-3 secs before shutting it off. Normally it starts after less than a sec of cranking. Don't know what that's about... but I can FEEL the layers upon layers of electronica between me and the mechanical bits. I believe you have to look at the starter button more like a door bell; press/release; don't hold it down. I have a lot of 'starter button time' in the '40, so have to unlearn.

  5. SSC official 2-way run was still 282. 282 > 273.

  6. But not production cars, and on a track AMG One will slaughter anything because it is made for a track, not top speed.

  7. I like crutchfield, but honestly, they don't seem to carry a lot of these model specific units. Unless you have something SUPER common like a Camry or Accord, they won't have it.

  8. Fastest top speed car is the (Shelby) SSC Tuatara, which ran a 2-way average of 316 MPH (unofficial). It did a 1-way run at 331 MPH. It's verified 2-way run was 282 MPH. SSC is American, based in Washington State. Also, the Hennessey Vemon GT did a 1-way run of 270 MPH. AMG One is only projected to go about 220.

  9. There are a few, but they are make/model/year specific. Like you can get an Apple Carplay capable unit. This is a replacement head unit for a 2007 - 2021 Camry This is a unit that I could put into my Avalanche.

  10. I thought when I brought the car to the dealer for the control arm fix that I got the .9 version upgrade but for the life of me I can’t find in the menus what version it is. It does have factory nav and hd radio. It is a terrible sounding system. Since these Regals are ‘German cars’ I guess now we get to join the ranks of the German car douchebags club that is mostly comprised of Bmw / merc / audi drivers

  11. Sorry no Spanish or Cuban. 7 1/2 years of Japanese with 3 1/2 years of it being while I lived in Japan going to Kobe University. This king of slang is funny now that I understand it, but wow, to just read it or hear it would not make any sense at all. Kinda like saying GoChu which is Korean for little pepper or is slang for little penis in Korean. Learned slang from my wife.

  13. Is it me and the way the angle of the photograph is taken, but I see this how both Buicks are parked ...although still within the lines... Are Buick owners slightly drifting in the "what is the difference between porcupines and BMW owners" level? Maybe?

  14. Push-button start goes back to the dawn of automotive time. Millennials think it's 'high tech'. ? I kinda like keys only because you can control it more precisely. Sometimes you need to 'bump it'.

  15. Sure; they can ask Santa for one. Motive power has zero to do with body style availability. Is the regular cab / long bed pickup coming back 'if people want it' because it's pushed by kW instead of BTUs?

  16. Yeah, surrounded by crap plastic and fake wood, very 2003. the vehicle looks 15-20 years old while the screen looks like its from 2021. I do not like that mashup, personally.

  17. "Wrong"? The Lincoln is factory ('61-'67), the Cadillac is not. Last Cadillac 4-dr convertible was this one: Talk about a dead body style. And the t-top thing was tried en-mass to replace the convertible. Nothing ushered its return quicker.

  18. Nope, wrong, I can see a market for a proper 4 door convertible since they were liked in the past. Being BEV, they will be roomy and far more useful than convertibles of the past. Not a convertible, but clearly a desirable open air auto!

  19. That does not change my point at all regarding the “best or nothing”.

  20. This seems to be so common. Even if we have foreign friends teach us 20 words of their language, over half of them will be questionable in nature. I had a good Middle Eastern friend who was Catholic and she taught me a good number of Arabic words, including funny ones and off-color ones. "Majnoon" is their word for crazy. "Sbaleh bedah" translates into white trash. The others are more graphic. This friend attained her degree here in the U.S. with over a 3.7 GPA, so she's smart. But it's funny how she still sometimes omitted articles when she speaks, which is how I think Arabic must be constructed. She had bought a house for a good price in the late '90s and it even has a pool, although it needed maintenance because it was neglected and full of algae. She said, "I bought house with green pool."

  21. Maybe Elon Musk is shooting his own Tesla foot and maybe THAT will destroy Tesla and coincidentally that will enable the competition to eat up Tesla? https://ca.news.yahoo.com/elon-musk-says-tesla-wasnt-142537743.html Biden doesnt invite Tesla, despite Tesla outselling all other in North America concerning EVs. is it because people in the know-how that actually will make the EV thing happen with laws and money dont have faith in Tesla anymore? Why? Some say because unions. But maybe other reasons too? https://ca.news.yahoo.com/tesla-chinese-rivals-xpeng-li-062943833.html https://www.scmp.com/business/companies/article/3142148/tesla-drops-down-rankings-below-average-quality-mainland-auto?utm_source=Yahoo&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=contentexchange&utm_content=3143475 https://ca.news.yahoo.com/california-couples-tesla-caught-fire-154040409.html https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/25/business/tesla-autopilot-ntsb.html https://www.theverge.com/2021/7/5/22563751/tesla-elon-musk-full-self-driving-admission-autopilot-crash ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maybe the powers that be are just sick and tired with Elon Musk and Tesla no longer gets a free pass? Maybe Elon Musk needs to step down...

  23. Why arent you waiting for a Corvette Z06 and ZR1 Porsche GT2 RS and BMW M4 Comp beater? Dont reply, I dont care. I just wanted to point out your hypocrisy and American self hatred.

  24. I think the Camaro will become a sedan because the Impala nameplate doesn’t really carry as much weight and it has to be one of the two. 2 door cars in general are dying, I suspect Mustang stays a coupe unless sales get awful, GM has Corvette for their coupe. I feel like car companies will have 1 coupe, and I don’t mean per brand, but per corporation, like Stellantis with 12 brands maybe does 2 coupes.

  25. Not if you know what you’re doing and assuming the dash can actually accommodate an aftermarket head unit. Alpine makes several models that resemble the floating tablets in most cars today. Metris makes data link harnesses that will fit most new cars with HVAC controls built in but you have to do your research on them and they may not be available with all models. I know they make some for my Flex but I have to urge to swap out currently and it wouldn’t be cheap to do it anyway.

  26. I knew a fair number of Cubans in grade school, high school, and college. They all had a great sense of humor. A "pendejo" is basically a jerk, but it literally means a "dingleberry." "Chinga," usually said in the reflexive form as "chingate," means GFY. I took 3 years of French in high school and a year of Spanish in college. It's almost easier to retain Spanish if living in the Sunbelt, even if you've taken less of it.

  27. @balthazar Thank you for sharing. I mean it. So I didn't have to. I assumed everyone was in on the joke. The friend I had a good laugh with about this plate option was Mexican-American and went to college with me. I believe they actually released that plate "into the wild," and, then, when the DMV got more sophisticated or was apprised, they pulled it back in. I don't know if that's urban legend - L.A. style. Either way, that plate, in which the words translated into Spanish approximate biology, is definitely "not available."

  28. I strongly suggest a 3rd party head unit that supports Android/Apple. I love my Pioneer Head unit I put in my 2008 Trailblazer SS as a replacement to the GM OEM unit. When the OEM unit died, I could not see myself spending $1,500 on a refurbished head unit that was dated to 2008 rather than a modern 2019 unit when I had it done. Still Loving it, planning to replace the Head Unit in my Escalade next year.

  30. The dash of the last Riv reminds me a bit of the original Riv...it had a prominent console and center stack and leaned back dash, big gauges, etc...

  31. Despite 4 years of Spanish between high school and college, I don’t know much Spanish-language slang. I did learn ‘pendejo’ and uses of ‘chingas’ from Cuban friends in high school, though.

  32. The fastest cars around a track that are available now are the Black Series and GT2 RS. The fastest car is the Bugatti Chiron at 273 mph. Tesla does have great 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, but the Ferrari SF90 is right there with it, the Rimac is even faster than the Tesla, but I am not really calling that a "production" car. They are all European cars. I don't know if there has ever been an American car under 7 minutes at the Nurburgring, let alone 6:43. There is no 275 mph Corvette or Cadillac Cien to take down Bugatti. And the AMG One hasn't even hit the track yet, which will just shatter anything the Black Series or GT2 GS have done, probably set a 1/4 mile record. All the high performance cars are from Europe. And it isn't just American cars dropping the call, Japanese and South Korea too. Genesis, Lexus, Infiniti, Acura are all out there, they tossed out short lived stuff like the LF-A and NSX (which is officially dead in 2022) which aren't as fast as European sports cars, the now super dated Nissan GT-R, was impressive in 2009, not anymore. Where are they all at? I don't think one Asian car company has a 600 hp car right now, not one 200 mph car either. Mercedes, Porsche and BMW make sedans that can beat a C8 Z51 around the Nurburgring, why doesn't Cadillac or the Japanese? And then you have 290 hp "F-Sport" cars or A-Spec Acura's with 350 hp that they think are performance. Those people are clueless. They need to step their game up. At least Tesla has brought performance to the table.
