Hyundai and Kia make their bread and butter vehicles with such low expense that adding a low volume high margin product like this is just toying with the market. Where GM can't support an SS here, Kia is just playing with resources and seeing if they hit a nerve. The Genesis is a dud though in terms of drive. I hope this is better. The pulled Optima styling is a bit of a miss here for me because they had the opportunity to pull Kia into the 2020's here. Instead, its a warmed over Optima. Doesn't make it bad, just tired. I do like the hatch though. That saves it. And the interior is in with the theme. For a lot of people this package makes more sense than a Camaro. Camaro has no backseat, and not much else plus is claustrophobic. This ventures off into Teslaville. This sort of packaging may become more what boomers look for in a sports car.

economic crash, manic tightening of FE regs, and expensive gas made compacts and subcompacts an option just a few years ago. Now, economy is decent, and gas is dirt cheap. Better to invest resources into keeping the Golf line viable.

I was shopping in a first ring/ second ring 6/10 burb the other night that happens to be near a prominent caddy dealer. Lots of boomer / elder demographic. In the span of a couple miles and a few minutes not less than 4 new XT5's. And since that other day, the next two days, seen more new XT5's. Caddy demand was pent up for crossovers. In the meantime I see several XTS out and about. It's rare to see new CTS. Used to see more ATS. CT6 is extremely rare. It's evident to me there is no detriment and all the benefit to continue to sell the XTS for 3 more years. It's the ES Lexus equivalent. No pretense, just some cush and badge honor. The new updates help but I do think they should have spruced the interior more. ATS is questionable to me in USA unless they redo the whole thing (including rear seat leg room), and probably should have remained CTS. CTS should have been STS. CT6 should have brought back DTS. Caddy may keep the XTS until they clear out the awkwardness of their sedan lineup. When the XTS dies, they should stick with 3 sedans (and that includes not expecting much volume out of the ATS size car). If they bring an even smaller FWD based car, that's suicide in the US i think. They need to keep the XTS to just plug the hole for those who don't like the CTS or think the ATS and CTS are too small and too unsightly, and don't like the CT6 or can't come close to affording it. Caddy's sin in the last 10 years or so. Downsizing all their product. CT6 is a nice size but a bit shy in width. Caddy really can rejuvenate sedans with a king size car. CT6 is a bit shy of king size.

C/D has a writeup on the new FUGLY Camry......but at least that will have a v6 choice....... the new camry interior is not bad too. Is Honda shooting themselves in the foot

It's crazy you say that because I have seen a rash of Crosstours around here lately. Of course this is SUV land and Honda land in parts. Towards the end, Honda was whoring out the Crosstours no one would buy with sign and drive cheap leases. Crosstours are the kind of vehicle you find at those luxury used car broker places......bunches of them they buy with 10-15k miles on them because they were 1 year demos, leases or leftovers etc. I've been trolling for used ZDX's though. What i once considered ugly has me intrigued.

The base Enclave is maybe within reach but 47+ for one with AWD, yup, profits over volume. The Traverse ain't cheap, either. Sucks cuz i like them both.......

i'd dispute that. Midsizers now steal compact sales, and midsizers are a great second car option for the two car families. They also help uphold cafe quite well.

interested to see how the new 2.0 in the Passat turns out. the 1.8 is decent. This new 2.0 as a base engine should really set the Passat apart from those with tiny 1.5's.

I was sort of thinking compared more to the Highlanders of the world. There is no match for the Escalades and Yukons of the world. that is true.
