  1. I was quite afraid the price to the diesel club was going to be more significant than that considering the 6.6 adds so much to the price of a 2500. still curious what it would look like on the "build" page by the time you throw some options on it. It definitely puts the colorado out in front of the segment's capability department. of course with all that power comes great responsibility... i've already read comments about how it only tows 700lbs more than the v6... i guess they forget the whole frame rating and all. just cause the powertrain can handle it, doesnt mean the rest of the truck can... oh yeah and dont forget the engine assisted braking! it would be so much fun to j brake beside someone and scare the crap out of them. im sure the system will be almost undetectable though.
  2. soooo... a government agency fines a company for "jeopardizing" their customer's safety and then turns around and pockets 66% of it for themselves? shouldn't that money go to the families or to the customers themselves in some shape or form. I saw where in the article they will have the opportunity to trade up, but it irks me to see an agency level a fine and then pocket the money with no real demonstration of what it will do with it.
  3. personally while shopping for a new (to me) "recreational vehicle" with 4x4, manual shift 4wd was a mandatory. electric shift 4wd with all the bells and whistles are nice, but when i decided to go into the wild i dont want a button to be the deciding factor on if i get stuck walking or i make it back to the road. my sisters old 98 s10 is currently 2wd only due to the fact that the push button has malfunctioned or the vacuum actuated diaphragm is gone. apparently its a common problem for that style s10 and s10 blazer. a surgeon here at the hospital had issues with his tahoe recently because of the electronic parking brake. some stuff just doesnt need to be a button to me....
  4. please tell me youre joking. while i have seen corvettes and cadillacs managing towing duties, lets not kid ourselves here. we are talking about trucks... doing work, getting dirty, getting fixed. when gm starts ragging ford for using aluminum in the new gt's then this statement will have validity. carry on.
  5. the trailhawk is the only version i could see in my driveway. there was actually a review that i saw showing it was more capable than the venerable xj it replaced. I still prefer the styling of the grand cherokee by far.
  6. Fair enough, but my point is that most people have no use for the things a Silverado does better than a Colorado. It had more torque, but it's no quicker. It pulls more, but most people don't tow with their trucks. It's larger, but most people don't need the extra room. I just don't get the appeal of having more of the things you'll never use, but less of the things you will. To each their own, I suppose. you have a very valid point, i'll not argue that. it is dumb to forgo nicer amenities for the sake of having bigger if you arent going to take advantage of the trade off. i feel like a lot of times im one of the last bastions of seeing a truck for work instead of a second vehicle. i'd hate to pay premium money and tear something up. my ideal truck is still bench vinyl seat, vinyl floor, crew 4wd. heheh i guess thats why my '62 scout 80 and wrangler with power nothing and a 6sp appeal to me so much! trust me if i could have made it work within my budget that rain forest green metallic z71 crew cab colly would be hanging out in my garage for sure!
  7. i test drove a new colorado, ive owned a previous gen 04 colorado since new, and between the 3 its the jeep for me. the steering and handling of the jeep and the new colorado are on par with each other to me, granted i didnt wail on the colorado like i have the jeep cause, you know, i didnt own it. comparing the 2014 unlimited to the 04 z71 colorado i have isnt even fair so i wont do that. im averaging 18-19 mpg's with the jeep which is close to the real world colorado mpg's. as far as the other point i am very much willing to sacrifice creature comforts for a more capable truck. higher torque, higher towing capacity and more room for the same price or less at the expense of say heated seats, touch screen nav, and bluetooth yadda yadda? yeah, i wont shed a tear cause to me i buy trucks to "truck". less to go wrong or fix down the road. I guess im just one of the old hold outs that truck is for work. now if you are talking cars and performance like the bmw analogy, then no you are right thats dumb, but at the end of the day the monthly payment a budget allows is usually what will dictate a purchase.
  8. i wanted a new colorado badly, but when it came down to it the price as optioned was 37k. i worked with the dealer, as we buy nearly every vehicle we own from them, and we just couldnt get close enough to where i wanted to be. the dealer is great and his motto is i want you to be happy whether its a purchase from me or elsewhere. I ended up with a 2014 jeep unlimited. it fit my needs better and the price was more comfortable for me. granted i kept my 04 colorado because a jeep just isnt a truck no matter what, but ultimately, like stated above, the price was the deal breaker and i am sure its the same way for most. In fact at that dealership they have early model 1500's going for what they have the colorados listed for. we are talking 4x4 crew cabs here. they may be LT's but a full size v8 pickup for the same price is hard to turn down...
  9. its impressive to say the least, but what raises my eyebrow is how well does it control a 31k pound load? the opposite of towing is stopping and i feel there are going to be a lot of arrogant owners showing off with jackknifed trucks the further up these ratings go.
  10. 1978 plymouth roadrunner in a local lot. orange with black stripe package. its a decent daily driver from the road.
  11. We have my great grandfathers winchester model 1892 in .38-40, its such a fun gun to shoot. i love how smooth the action is even at its age. finding ammo was tedious and expensive until cowboy action shooting took off though. my current fav gun in my collection is a remington model 8A in .35 remington. according to the numbers it was prodiced around 1916. its a dream to shoot and everytime i shoulder it i wonder what it's seen.
  12. just bought a 2014 wrangler unlimited about a month ago. i couldnt be happier with it. ive got the 6sp man, im getting about 19-20 combined. the ride is excellent for what it is from my perspective, but that is most likely due to the longer wheelbase. steering seems on point and has a good feel to me, but that also could be because im comparing that to my 04 colorado's handling habits. The vehicle is most definitely a lifestyle vehicle, no arguments there. mine is equipped with the optional half doors, which was something i specifically looked for. There is a certain mindset you have to have to be an owner for sure. for instance, at the moment i am tracking down a leak on the passenger side. i guess its one of those jeep things... but i love the outdoors and am an avid hiker and camper. its all i was looking for in a vehicle, and cheaper than the new colorado i was considering. resale value is also excellent, as those who are in search of one can attest. great write up! the next addition i am saving for mine is that hard top though for security as you mentioned. as it stands only a zipper and velcro are keeping people out. JEEP, Just Empty Every Pocket.
  13. I really want a 2015 z71 4x4 crew, but the price of admission is tough to justify. My '04 is getting up in the miles and the replacement is between a 2014 jeep unlimited willys wheeler and the colorado. honestly i cant justify the price for the colorado when the willys fits the bill well equipped for less.
  14. i'd just like a new k5 blazer personally. im in the market for a new vehicle and its between a new colorado crew z71 and a willys wheeler unlimited. frankly with comparable options the jeep comes in a tick under $3500 less...
  15. so from what im gathering from peoples attitudes is that they are blasting GM for letting the first ignition recall go so long, which is understandable. now people are blasting them for taking care of a potential problem before it becomes one. Which do people want, an apathetic car company or a demonstration of proactively taking care of the consumer?
  16. blacked out cts-v wagon on the way to work.
  17. I thought I heard somewhere that Toyota was allowing dealerships to back out of selling scions without any penalties for dropping their contracts not too long ago.
  18. I think they make a lower priced corvette, its a 2+2 called the 1LE Camaro.
  19. dirty mary, crazy larry. that 4dr 66 impala was freakin nutz, so was the charger.
  20. Saw an immaculate 1995 brickyard monte carlo pace car today.
  21. Auction Insanity: Ray P. Lambrecht Collection 500 Cars From An Old Car Dealer In Nebraska – Trade Ins, Never Sold New Cars, More A small town Nebraska Chevy dealer took every unsold new car from every model year he was in business and just about every single car he ever took as a trade in and saved them all. Sounds cool, right? It is, especially when you know that there are 500 of these cars and they they’re all heading for auction at the end of August. According to the auction house the vast majority of these cars are original survivors that have not been altered much from their stock configuration. The truly wild angle on this thing is the quantity of new cars that were never sold and include their MSO (Manufacturer Statement of Origin). the rest of the story here
