Because the GME people politicked it out of existence. It's the same reason that a G8 which gets 1MPG less than a fat ass Epsilon, yet is a MUCH better representation of engineering prowess is "no longer a viable option"

I don't see why GMC couldn't be offered as the true truck alternative again. The market WILL NOT die completely just because GM can't move 1 million trucks a year. Give GMC the rugged Hummer product on the lower end, some bigger Denali offerings (especially if the Escalade is killed) and a truck to sell to consumers and some decontented trucks to sell to the commercial market. That would help Chevy's resale anyway.
-
Do you people seriously think that the truck market is just going to go POOF and disappear?!?! C'mon guys... Trucks will ALWAYS sell to those who need them and once battery technology or alternative fuels catches up I'm willing to bet that the market will be the same that it is now. You cannot assume 2 things in this situation: 1) That americans are buying small cars because they WANT to. 2) That Chevy will EVER bring in the same clientele (in SUVs and Crossovers) that GMC will pull. Sure, an LTZ can be as nice as a Denali, but it's NOT about the product. It's about the image. I can find just as nice of a shirt at Wal-Mart as I can at American Apparel. But if I'm an image concious buyer, I will pay the extra money for the American Apparel shirt before I ever set foot into a Wal-Mart.

Meh... I'm not in podunk anymore sir. I'm actually with a company that is eerily close to you as a GM employee. :AH-HA_wink: In fact, there is nothing else like it in the world.

The GMT360s only shared one body panel, yet all we heard was re-badge this and re-badge that. It's double standard and one of the reasons that the asians can get away with it is because their offerings are so damn bland in the first place that no one even notices them duplicating the same thing across 2-3 divisions.
-
Yeah, because my desire to buy a RWD V8 car (I've never been a BOF fan) has a lot to do with what I said. (Sarcasm) I've been talking about my growing disdain for this country since 3-4 years ago, LONG before the latest 'fuel panic' hit.
-
Looks like this country is falling faster than even I predicted. As for GM... This country WILL destroy GM, one way or another. People are itching to see the company get a big punch in the face BEFORE the 100th anniversary. (The same thing happened to Ford when they hit 100-- The celebration was overshadowed BIG TIME by every hack in the market/media trying his/her best to kick the company) They've tried it through media, they've tried it through environmental issues and 'fashion', they've tried it through regulation and now they'll try it through finances. It used to just be the media that attacked Detroit. Now it's the media, which won over the government, which now affects the finance opinion and ultimately will turn the majority against the company (Not the 60% of the population that hates GM now, try 80-85%)

Likewise Pontiac, if it were Holdenized like it was supposed to be.
-
Once again; How is eliminating GMC GOOD for the company? It'll create HUGE negative PR, phase out GM's once (and maybe still) 2nd best selling division and deprive the company of an outlet that requires MINIMAL investment yet returns HUGE profit. Not to mention, GMC enjoys a VERY good image in comparison to pretty much any other GM division this side of Saturn, and that's only because Saturn DOESN'T HAVE AN IMAGE. In the 'elite' families (You know, the people who buy Lexus cars) it is VERY likely that you will find GMC trucks. GMC and it's marketing have been HUGELY successful at pulling in a clientele that typically would NOT buy GM. At one time it was the TOP import conquest division at GM. The positives to keeping the division vastly outweigh the positives to phasing it out.

I hope so (About the brands) But I don't see the logic behind cutting the Acadia. It's by far the best selling Lambda and a perfect fit for GMC IMO. If Pontiac and GMC are to stay and if the Denali XT comes to fruition, the Lambda truck program would be redundant IMO. But otherwise, why couldn't the Lambda SUT and X-over become the main bread winners for GMC? Wasn't Saturn supposed to get a Lambda SUT at one point? Hopefully that plan hasn't been reinstated since Saturn can't even sell the Outlook as is. It just seems redundant to cancel the GMC version because it will compete with the Chevrolet and then introduce a Cadillac version that will likely compete with the Enclave. (Because I don't think Lambda can do much better than the Enclave, honestly) But then, the logical course of action would be to utilize the already engineered and excellent Zeta platform or SigZeta to base a Cadillac SUV on. But GM in it's perpetual ignorance won't have that. Maybe GMC will become simply a truck brand now and will take on the role of offering true BOF trucks and SUVs. Those people who want a BOF luxury truck can maybe still buy a Yukon Denali (Since it generally has better demographics than the Escalade anyway) and maybe those people who want a rugged little SUV from Hummer will now be able to go to the GMC store instead (If *when* Hummer is sold)

I just enjoy messing with Borger. In fact, since news is relatively slow, it's one of my favorite ways to pass the time now. :AH-HA_wink:

McCain says he opposes Detroit 3 bailout
FUTURE_OF_GM replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in Industry News
I really don't understand WHY the government is so opposed to supporting what little manufacturing we have left in this country. I mean, maybe not a bailout, but some support WOULD BE NICE. Detroit has a hard enough time FIGHTING the asian companies nd FIGHTING our own government. There is no way in hell they will survive if they have to FIGHT other governments as well. Agreed and agreed. No worries though, it's not like McCain has a chance or anything. Mark my words; our next president WILL be Obama. I'm a storied conservative, you all know that, but I'm happy to say that MY VOTE will probably go to Obama because he seems to be the least 'out of touch' of all the candidates. -

He wouldn't be the first GM employee to go onto the blogs and talk out of his ass. -

Manuals will be gone when the fun cars die and when we all have to drive a computer. (So, in about 5 years) -
What's wrong? No witty comeback? Too close to home? Do I know too much? Hmmm....
-
On second thought, if I had the means, I'd buy an H2 just to drive it and piss off the greenies. Maybe I could use my artistic abilities to paint something creative about the future on it. (I dunno, suffocating people, an atomic bomb or a clown with a hatchet or something) GM has the opportunity to turn the world on it's head with Hummer and forever cement the image of the company as one that INNOVATES if only they would apply the Volt technology to the division. Hummer is hated, so eliminate the reason for people to hate it and shove the brand down society's throat while asking them WHY thy hate the brand. That'll make the kind of memorable impact that GM needs to make and it will change minds. But alas, GM hasn't got the balls to have a vision and stick to it. If you make people look stupid in their own self image, you will reverse their thinking.
-
So why are you so anti-Pontiac? Did the division leave a bad taste in your mouth.... Or is that taste just from CPF? :AH-HA_wink: Did someone from Pontiac piss in your cornflakes? Oh I forgot, Uncle Bob is why right? Did he deny you a promotion or are you just professionally jealous? You want to kill Pontiac and Holden because you (and your faction) hate Uncle Bob. It all makes so much sense now! You sold your soul to the CPF side of the company because you, for some reason, hate GMNA leadership. Now this little gasoline spike is just the stroke of luck you needed to see things go your way and prove a point at the expense of the company AND it's enthusiasts. It's great to see that the leadership at GM is so mature and intelligent these days. It's just too bad someone hasn't retired you yet PCS. On a related note, I enjoyed the praise heaped onto the G8 from a CALIFORNIA reader in one of this months rags (C&D maybe?) talking about how "cars like this are what GM needs to sell in markets like Cali"
-
This thread proves that Pontiac is hitting it's target demographics since the answers have been pretty universally "yes" AND we're all enthusiasts.

1) Zer0 2) If I could afford a CTC or CTC-V, you bet your ass.

What's funny is that the "brainiacs" at GM have been engineering the Cadillac comeback about TWICE AS LONG AS Infiniti has been doing their comeback, yet Infiniti is already MILES ahead. Way to go GM management!!!!!! You people shouldn't be allowed to disgrace a company, with this much heritage and equity, this badly.

Gauntlet thrown: Corvette ZR1 laps the 'Ring in 7:26.4
FUTURE_OF_GM replied to Intrepidation's topic in Chevrolet
Yeah... As if we'll see it. Maybe we can get excited about a 4 cylinder Corvette! (SARCASM) -
Yep... I thought GM learned this lesson with Olds. Kiss Buick goodbye in a few years, DESPITE the improvements. GM won't allow them enough time to show a full recovery.

Well, we have no industry other than paper shuffling Wall Street left in this country, so we might as well as sit on our asses and SPECULATE the place into a frenzy to see who we can F*CK out of money next. My :twocents: I hope this country burns.
