Whoever did the crash test results on the Toyota better watch out. They could find assasins out to kill them for such blasphemy.

What an odd selection of vehicles. The Ridgeline was expected to win by default like it did in Motor Trends Truck of the Year but the Avalon and Charger! No way. The S80 is hardly world class in any way and the Jag was not expected for the price as there are several better choices in that range.

Wow, what an impressive car! So it has a 4 banger that is carrying around a heavier car with no more power than before, has a smaller trunk and less interior volume, an indecisive automatic tranny, a trip computer that resets everytime gas in put in the tank(retarded), bloated, bland styling that copies several competitors such as Mazda, no door protection molding whatsoever so that it will have dings galore in short order, torque steer and still lackluster handling like every Camry before it. Sounds like a last place finisher in the rags publications just like last years models!

It looks a hell of a lot better than the current Avalon or Camry. In fact an older gentleman that had a 2005 Avalon was checking out the new Azera at a local Hyndi dealer and remarked how it looked more expensive than his car and how it had more nice chrome trim on the outside, and a better looking interior, something his car lacked.

What is that huge bar that sticks up nearly 10 feet in the air, a bike holder?

What do you get when you shrink a 07 Toyota Camry, mate it with a lady bug, guinea pig and an Echo? The answer: the new Yuckis!

This truck has so many little issues that add up to an overall dissapointing package. I rented a red 4 door 4WD model with 5 cy/auto trans. The styling and utility of the truck are fine in my eyes. It's the packaging, powertrain, pricing and interior cheapness that are off putting. The 5 cylinder never feels like it is sending 220 hp to the wheels, the 4 speed automatic more than likely is holding this engine back, the interior is so hard and austere with cheap feeling fabrics, hard plastic dash and no padding to be found. The engine is loud and vibratory when starting out, the prices are high on the 4 door loaded up models and some GMC versions go over 30K which is full size territory. Of course everybody knows about the tow ratings and lack of 4 wheel disk brakes. Putting the larger engines will help answer the power issues but I am willing to bet the old 4 speed trans remains along with the strange sounds and vibrations of the 5 cylinder mill. If GM was willing to get serious about improving the total package this is what they should do: Tap Isuzu Australia and get that sweet 3.6 engine as an option on the top end 4 doors, 6 speed automatic across the board with the 4 speed used only in fleet base models, revamped interior with more padding, body color trim and moldings on higher priced models, 5-6K tow ratings, rear disk brakes on all 4 door models, lower prices another 1000-2000 dollars, make the interior more upscale looking on pricier versions and make the 5 cylinder std equipment on the 4WD drive extended cab and 4 door versions.

Another thing that has happened over the past 6 or 7 years is the wan in popularity of 2 door coupes. The Eldorado and Riviera were both dropped. The Grand Prix coupe and now the Chrysler and Dodge coupes are done. Add the styling issues or lack of and trying to get people to fork over more than sticker prices for a coupe along with the things mentioned in the article and it was doomed for failure from the start. I rarely ever see Accord coupes and Solaras in my area. But there are tons of sedans everywhere you look. The 60's, 70's and 80's fascination with the 2 door coupe is sadly a thing long in the past. Thanks goodness there is still a market for pony cars like the Mustang and true sports cars like the Vette or roadsters like the Sky/Solstice.

What a silly, blah looking car. And that oversize Art & Science grille is rediculous.

When I saw this at the autoshow in my area I almost walked right by it. It was so bland looking from the side view. Why can't Ford leave the naked, bland side look to the Asians? The interior is ok and it's about time the 3.5 engine came out. Judging from the fact that litterally no one was even noticing the Edge and hordes of people were clambering around the Solctice/Sky doesn't bode too well. Making this into a Lincoln is suicidal.

Other than the Caravan, the odd Jeep or the 300C there is little at Chrysler that interests me. But with so many Sport utes, upcoming crossovers and trucks it's no wonder that our active lifestyle generation are flocking to these vehicles. It's really sad to see them getting out of the coupes and sub compact sedan market but the Challenger does look promising.

I just don't see how people get excited about these cars. The dull styling looks like something from 5 years ago. Sure they handle nice and all the quality, styling and gimmickry leave me cold.
-
60's- 70's and 80's styling was always my favorite. The late 80's and all of the 90's produced so many dull generic looking cars and that look has sadly carried over to the present in all but a few notable examples. The Asian cars are the worst but then they hardly have a heritage with stunning styling. I just hope Chevy doesn't go overboard on the retro themes because most of todays generation just won't appreciate it. These very same people have made yawners like the Camry/Accord top selling cars so many folks just aren't after nicely styled cars anymore. I am just hoping, no begging Chevy to not go with the naked side door look that almost ever new car seems to be going with. If I want a dull, bland looking car with no character whatsoever then i'll buy a Camry. If I want some styling, chrome trim, character lines, door moldings etc, I hope Chevy will deliver and not copy everybody else.

In my area Scions, Toyotas, VW's and Jeeps are what every gay person I know drives. I have yet to see a gay person drive an Impala, G6 or minivan. Oh well.

Detroit News: 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP Coupe Review
ponchoman49 replied to Variance's topic in Heritage Marques
Why does the G6 need side airbags and a power passenger seat as std equipment? Christ these cars already weight over 3500 lbs. Adding more of this $h! just increases weight further. Also why does this car need to be 9-10K less? I would say maybe 2-3K. I have always found the interior to be a mixed bag myself. The all black interior is just like looking at black lung. It so needs some more trim to break it up. And putting wood accents in a sporty Pontiac is ludicrous. Also why can't we have a nice two-tone tan or charcoal/gray combo. The comments about the radio are just plain silly. My friends 9 y/o old son could have easily figured out how to use this radio in seconds. And the rear seat is supposed to be tight as it is in every other small, sporty coupe. One thing that had always bugged me about this car and the Malibu also is the horrid cloth seat material used. It gives these cars a certain harsh cheapness that is lacking in the Accord and Camry and feels like something out of a bus. -
Cadillac still looking for international volume
ponchoman49 replied to Northstar's topic in Cadillac
Not only does the SRX need an interior re-do but I would also like to see some exterior changes. The naked sided look so foolishly introduced by BMW a few years back really needs to go. It's sickening to see 60K plus Caddys with door jams and creases already. They put a nice chrome molding on the new trucks, why not the SRX? And please tone down the sharp creases a little. Other than that it should do well. -
GM Canada announces name change of Pursuit to G5
ponchoman49 replied to CadillacCTS's topic in Heritage Marques
Shakes head sadly... GM still doesn't get it. Badge engineered cars with stupid letter names is not going to save you. And by the designations it already sounds like they made up there minds not to use the s/c engines. In my mind SE means 2.2 145 hp and GT means 172 hp 2.4 Ecotec although I could be wrong on this. -
The new Sentra is hardly stunning and really just a plainer looking, shrunken Altima/Mazima. Lets wait and see what it looks like in the steel so to speak.

What year was your parents LeSabre?
-
I knew that putting a detuned 3800 in a car that weights nearly 4000 lbs would provide only adequate at best power. It looks really stupid to anyone who notices that the smaller, cheaper LaCrosse has more hp and torque than the bigger, heavier Lucerne. I also agree about the dash and interior looking too plain. The passenger side of the dash is the worst with a huge slab of harshly textured plastic with nothing to break it up. And $995 for extra cost paint. What is GM making like $900.00 profit on this. It's things like this that so annoy!

So far everyone that I have talked to said they will stick with there current F-150's, Silverados and Rams. The Toyota is as usual too ugly! Lately they have not been able to style anything ot save there lives!
-
Don't much care for the engine bay!
-
I'm really curious how well the detuned 197 hp series III motor responds in the almost 4000 lb CXL model with the lazy 2.86:1 axle. If anything Buick should have used the LeSabres former 3.05:1 grand touring ratio as standard to help with all the extra weight. My 00 LeSabre which weighted 3523 and had the touring pkg and 3.05:1 gears moved along smartly but a little sluggish from 40-70 when a burst of power was needed. I timed it at around 8.0 seconds to 60 many times and that was with nearly 500 lbs less weight, better gears and slightly more power and torque! Please elaberate on how the 3800 series III performed in those CXL models throughout the power band.

Now all they have to do is fix the naked side door look and it will be much nicer.
