Maybe..the wierd thing about the wheelbases is I wonder why the LWB Epsilon II has a shorter wheelbase (111.7) than the Epsilon I (112.3, current Malibu)...I assume the Epsilon II Malibu will get the Regal's wheelbase (107.8 ).

GM's attempt doesn't count..they tried it and gave up. M-B or Volvo was the first to have sustained production across their entire model lineup...

Most US market M-Bs had airbags standard around '85-86, IIRC.

Interesting...in profile, it kinda resembles the last Chrysler Imperial from the early '90s.

560SL was 1986-1989, last version of the '71 vintage R107 generation. They were a bit outdated by then. Still see quite a few of them out and about around here...lots of nice old Mercs around Phoenix and Scottsdale. Saw a very clean silver blue w/ dark blue interior one and an earlier 450SL from around 1980 in it's signature bright red w/ tan interior last week...

or spell it out in separate letters above or on the chrome strip above the license plate area...separate chrome letters spread across the deck/hatch would look good..

So that it interferes with the Cruze? '87 Taurus is a mid-size, not a full size, so I'm not getting the point of this. I'm also having some trouble seeing how the 190 inch Fusion is on the smaller side of mid-size. With the Malibu shortening, is it going to drop out of "mid-size"? 190 seems to be about the average size of NA market midsize models. The Mazda 6 is one of the shorter ones at 187, and even the Avenger and 200 (which look like the smallest to me) are 190, as is the Regal and Galant. The last 3 generations of Malibu have only varied by a couple of inches in length, and are about the same size as the '80s Celebrity. The Luminas in the '90s were longer (197/200). The W-bodies were considered midsize, but I suppose the Impala is considered fullsize by interior volume.

It was sad to hear of DED Jr's passing..I've been a subscriber to C&D since '77, and Automobile since '86..always enjoyed his insights and musings on all things automotive...I'll have to go back and read his book again. He was all over the place w/ car mags, in Motor Trend for a while and more recently Winding Road.

A convertible Volt could be a nice addition to the line...high mileage cars can be fun also, not just sober and functional.

I remember that, but I can't remember what the difference was. I know a lot of people have swapped MC noses on the Caminos... and there are a lot of ChooChoo parts out there... 25 years later, I can't keep 'em straight. IIRC, the El Camino and Monte Carlo front fenders are shaped differently at the leading edge, so the nose caps are different...not sure about the hoods...

I like that also...and it's on the correct side (left). One thing that has long annoyed me are cars that had the model name on the left and the brand name on the right, so they read 'Charger Dodge' for example...

Seems a bit thick visually..maybe take 4-6 inches out of the car vertically..interesting front and rear detailing..

4>2...the 2 headlights were a weak point on many '70s GMs, esp. the '73-77 and '78-81 A-bodies that used them, IMO.

Interesting...never heard that rumor. I suppose it was nixed because Cadillac didn't want competition, since it had the Catera which had a similar origin (the Commodore being derived also from the Omega).

Would be nice...Chevy needs something interesting in sedans besides more FWD appliances...

Aren't the sales of those like 90% 4 cyl, though? And who knows, the next gen of each may follow Hyundai's lead and be 4 cyl only...for FWD midsize appliances like these, 4 cyl seems more than enough.

My Mustangs are stored in my Mom's barn, 2000 miles away..they get driven maybe 150-200 miles a year..I drive them when I visit, my Mom and brother drive them to cruise ins and car shows (along w/ his 4 old cars and her 2)...got a bunch of trophies and plaques on a shelf from the shows, but I've only made it to a couple of them over the years. I need to resolve my geolocation and garage issues eventually, but I really don't want to move back to Ohio, been in the West too long, but I don't want to stay in AZ. Decisions, decisions....

I wonder if it will be a rebadge or a new design based on a current compact Fiat like the Grande Punto or Bravo...
