  1. Evo is one of the top UK car magazines, along with Top Gear and Car. Here's a link to a video on 'The Beast'...sounds very strange, like a squeaking railway car...interesting stuff. Haven't found much in the way of details, except maybe the front end....long hood, kind of a beige shooting brake body style. 27 litres! I found this on Wikipedia, a bit of info on 'The Beast' and another car: "Michael Wilcock of Sussex, England built the Swandean Spitfire Special[1], using a Merlin XXV engined acquired from a a scrap yard for one hundred and forty pounds. The engine was installed in a home-brewed chassis confected from two Daimler Dingo scout car chassis. The car was run in the Brighton Speed Trials[2] in 1953, and was sold to James Duffy of St. Louis, Missouri in 1956. As of 2005, the vehicle is still in St. Louis, where it is undergoing restoration. In the 1960s, Paul Jameson put a Merlin engine into a chassis he had built himself.[citation needed] He did not get around to building a body, and sold the car to Epsom automatic transmission specialist John Dodd, who fitted a fibreglass body based on the shape of the Ford Capri and named the machine "The Beast".[3][dead link] The Beast was once listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's most powerful road car.[citation needed] The engine came from a Boulton Paul Balliol training aircraft.[citation needed] The car used a General Motors TH400 automatic transmission"
  2. The thought of McCain passing on while in the White House is the most horrifying in-office scenario I can think of in the next four years. President Palin? AUUGGGGGGHHHH
  3. mobile loo
  4. Yes, many of them probably support Bush...the Republican party has many closeted (and not so closeted) racists and armed psychos.
  5. Since they just came out for '07, I can't see the need to redesign them for at least 10 years, since that niche is not as hot as it used to be..
  6. Yes, I don't see anything wrong with that...offer some diesels, make upgrades here and there, and the Suburban, Tahoe, and Yukon could stay around as long as there is demand. Chevy has the Uplander to handle the family wagon market.
  7. I've actually had the clerks at Hertz ask me I instead if wanted a Sable or something smaller...I usually always try and reserve a GM or TC. I'd love to drive a Mini Cooper S....there are some small cars I really like, and though I love modern sports sedans like the CTS and various BMWs, I also enjoy the classic American land yachts...
  8. I had a Sebring convertible in Florida this summer....for some reason, I couldn't get a Mustang convertible at Hertz for that weekend. Ended up picking up a Sebring conv. in Miami....nasty interior plastics, and the driver's seat recline handle broke off in my hand. Ugh. When I went back to Ohio Labor Day weekend, though, Hertz in Pittsburgh had my usual Grand Marquis available, as did Hertz in Denver a couple weeks ago. I'm always happy to float along in a Panther boat...

  10. latest breaking news: Feds Disrupt Plot to Assisinate Obama I wonder if these yahoos were funded by the RNC or some Southern fundie Christian organisation.
  11. I had a few buddies in high school that had diesel GMs that were hand-me-downs from their folks...an '81 Caddy Fleetwood Brougham, an '81 Olds 88, an '81 Pontiac Bonneville..all diesels in Marathon, FL. I had my '84 Ford Escort diesel. I got 58 MPG once in a long, flat 55 mph freeway drive...
  12. QUOTE (66Stang @ Oct 27 2008, 01:57 PM) Given that the planet has too many people fighting for too little space...isn't a car (like the Prius) that produces celebacy a GOOD thing? Chris Hmmm...maybe.. kind of the reverse of the Routan. Though everyone I know that has a Prius is married with child/ren.
  13. Diesels rock. If GM were more forward-thinking, they would have some diesels in NA ASAP. I want to see a diesel CTS. A diesel Camaro (lots of torque, w/ a manual transmission). A diesel G8. etc..
  14. Heh-heh...I like the oldies, like alot of current cars, and am looking forward to the future... trying to be optimistic about the future (which goes against my natural tendency to be pessimistic or nihilistic).
  15. Yes, dull, predictable choices.
  16. Agreed...unveiling things at the NAIAS just perputates the image of Detroit and the Midwest as the GMNA's core market..
  17. Reminds me of the timeline leading up to the United Federation of Planets in Star Trek mythology...sometime, maybe the 21st or 22nd century, Earth united into one single government for betterment of humanity and all.... As seen on Wikipedia, "The United Earth (UE) is the Earth's world government in the "present" for all Star Trek series. It existed as early as 2067, unified all of Earth's nations by 2150, and still exists in the 24th century. The episodes "Demons" (ENT) and "Terra Prime" (ENT) established that the United Earth is a parliamentary system of government. In 2155, Nathan Samuels served as one of the ministers. " (of course, all of this happened in the post-nuclear war horror of the aftermath of WW III, which takes place in 2053).
  18. And if they had their way (the fundies), they'd probably rip up the Constitiution and create a theocracy. Lots of nut jobs out there of all stripes with all sorts of crazy theories.... I'm more worried about the rise of Skynet and the robots...I think Google is becoming Cyberdyne...
  19. Yeah...I just wish they had done a better job with their recent compact and midsize cars.. the '90s 'cloud' cars were great looking, IMHO. I saw a black Charger and a black Intrepid--both R/Ts--parked together in a parking garage recently...both great, distinct stylish designs, IMHO.
  20. I agree, if you don't participate, you have no right to complain about who get elected. Talk about odd--I saw an Explorer with an Obama sticker on the left side of the bumper, and a McCain sticker on the right side of the bumper. A couple that had differing political views? Someone playing it both ways and hedging their bets?
  21. Yeah, maybe they will do something with a unique Lexus style and not just a rebadge...Lexus models have been sold in Europe for a while, don't know how successful they have been.
  22. Nothing wrong with that...I have Obama stickers on my cars.
  23. Sounds like it...premium C-segment hatches are a hot niche in Europe.... the A3 really hasn't caught on big here yet.
  24. QUOTE (MyerShift @ Oct 26 2008, 08:21 PM) Strange things said about my car? Well, for my Mk V Golf (Volkswagen Rabbit) the strangest thing I've heard is that... "It's a gay looking car." I don't get it. Well, what I've heard that about Jettas...apparently, they are a gay icon in the SF Bay Area...a straight coworker of mine in Denver who had moved from Ca driving a '99 Jetta was always getting teased about it by people that knew about that stereotype...similar to the stereotype about Subaru wagons and lesbians in some areas..though I haven't heard it applied to Golfs or Rabbits.
  25. Hmmm...was the end of a dance move or something? Or did they hold that pose for a while..
