WASHINGTON — Edwin Black is on a mission. He wants to go head-to-head with the head of General Motors in a showdown at Starbucks.

The best-selling author has nothing against the coffee chain, but says he wants a public venue to confront the nation's largest car industry with his charges that GM has addicted the U.S. to the internal combustion engine — and hence oil — and is spelling doom for America.

"These are the cigarettes of individual movements. These are the cigarettes of technology. These are eight-cylinder cigarettes. They are killing us," Black said recently in a one-on-one interview.

"Stop allowing these health-harming, climate-killing, treasury-destroying, terrorism-enabling, petroleum guzzlers to be made," he beseeched. ................

Tom Friedman of The New York Times called from last year. He wants his story back.

This guy is so one-sided, he's the real danger of America. He goes on to attack only American companies and lets all the other automakers, manufacturers, etc... off the hook.

Environmentalists are continually using the "blame america" card instead as their main arguments and all it is doing is alienating more and more people. Who wants to keep hearing all the things America does wrong every single day?

The US may be the world's biggest polluter but there are many other countries out there that are just as responsible for the environment as we are and they're not getting nearly enough criticism.

Who fronts these guys - the Taliban?

While jerks like this are busy dragging down and trashing American companies, the foreign competition are eating our lunch.

And I suppose that the oil will just stay in the ground if no one uses it.
