BAD: I will not be able to take my Oldsmobile Super-88 on that roadtrip to Tulsa, OK

GOOD: I will probably be driving a 1959 Buick those 3200 miles instead.

BAD: It's not a Hardtop, Electra or even an Invicta...

GOOD: It is the rarest body style of all 1959 Buicks. Two Door Sedan. Only came in LeSabre.

BAD: I don't own it YET.

GOOD: There's a good chance I will by the end of February.

BAD: it's refrigerator white

GOOD: I think I'll paint it "arrest me yellow". I'm talking lemon yellow, clean, bright bold, loud yellow. '70 GSX yellow!

I'd go with either a powder blue or a champagne color. :lovey:

Some more good news: You and Ross didn't freeze to death in the back of the Comanche and I didn't get pulled over, and Jolene was able to sneak in at like 2:15am without her parents waking up! HAHA

Some bad news: It was f**king COLD LAST NIGHT, but that goes along with the first good thing I said, you and Ross somehow survived a 5 minute ride in the bed of the Jeep in 10* temperatures!

This is just my opinion and worth what you paid for it, but I would support federal legislation to ban powder blue on any vehicle of any vintage. The. Absolute. Worst.

....tied with bright yellow.

Sixty8- consider B-59's Lido Lavender, I've seen it in person and it's awesome. So is Canyon Copper. Buicks.net has a copy of my color chip chart, but you can go to autocolorlibrary.com and look up anything. For the record- I do not care for black on B-59s.

My Invicta was Artic White also- didn't really bother me on this car. Leading new color choice is pearl metallic silver.

So you like this car better than the Super 88? Are you sure you wanna sell it? Also..please...for cripe's sake..not yellow. Orange, Red, Black (my favorite) or some sorta blue...but not yellow...unless you add black detailing to balance it.

Sixty8, congrats on finding your dream '59 Buick. As long as you're happy with the purchase, then that's all that matters. Good luck witht eh sale of teh '64 Olds 88... if I liked the style of those years, I'd probably be interested.

There's too many nice colors to choose from IMHO. Again, I;d have to see what this body style looks like before I;d comment on what color I would choose, but I'm just not picturing bright lemony yellow!

Anyway, enjoy the wait <sarcasm>, as me & ocnblu did for our new rides, and here's hoping you find a buyer quickly for your '64.

I know this family well, and I scanned the pics for that website- (fun site, BTW), and I've seen all those cars in person.

The black beauty up top is the LeSabre 2-dr sedan, tho I should note it has the optional chrome trim around the side windows that brightens it up nicely. Most 2-dr sedans prolly don't have this.

This might draw even more critisism than "GSX saturn yellow" btu I really like

this idea... it just kind of came to me a min. ago. how about paiting the damn

thing like a shark... it already has an angry gaping mouth and huge fins!

You guys know that if the server takes a dump while you are trying to post, you can just hit the "back" button on the web browser and recover everything. That way you won't have to make sure to copy whatever you want to post.

Then on the way back home saw/videotaped a pretty big housefire.

I saw it from the highway and even though XP's GF was already

pissed at him for being late I decided to convince him to go check it

out. We parked in some church parking lot, shot some footage and

took a few photos while praying that no people died in this inferno.

And then, 60 miles & an hour and half later the Super 88's fuel pump

gushed fuel out the side and gave up the ghost. My first breakdown

in the car. I think she KNOWS I'm going to sell her. :(

It's quite flattering that the Sixty4 Super 88 is attached to me enough

to try a desperate attempt to stay in my possession.

Fianlly at 3am, half frozen, exhaused but pumped about the possibility

of a '59 Buick in my near future, I got home. Granted it was in the cab

of a Ford wrecker with my poor crippled Oldsmobile on the back of the

flatbed but overall it was a very intrguing night. Seeing that house fire

made me appreciate life that much more and seeing that 1959 LeSabre

made me want to never buy a car modern than a 1959 ever again. :P

Never been a fan of white cars but somehow over the past 12 years I've had two

white Pontiacs, One Cadillac, & the 64 Oldsmobile. Then again if I'm going to buy

another (non-white diamond) snow white car again then THIS should be the one!

* Not counting three white demolition derby cars!

Now as far as the tires, I'm a sucker for white walls as long as they "belong" on

the car in question. They BELONG on this car, esp. with the wheel skirts, which

are hand made by the way, the craftsmanship on them is not bad at all! I'll get

nicer, original '59 Buick hubcaps for it or perhaps some other fancy hubcaps

from the time period... like Caddy Hubcaps.

And yes, the rear windows do roll down! So although it's not a hardtop it is STILL

way cooler than a modern "two door sedan". God I love classic GM cars, nothing

more exciting then shopping for a car like this.

Good question about the chrome window trim. The LeSabre 2 door post

was the absolute bottom of the barrell in 1959. It was the only model

that didn't offer the power seat and it had the largest percentage of the

3-on-the-tree/8.25 compression 364 combo.

Which is why it would make a fun "COPO-59" if I stuffed a Cadillac 500

& 4-speed manual into it & then ran it on red steelies, dog dish hubcaps

or half moons & black wall drag radials.

but back to the topic at hand... I have yet to see a '59 LeSabre post 2dr

(or 4dr) without the chrome trim around the entire door frames & profile

of the greenhouse. Maybe I have seen one and do not remember it but

I'm thinking most had the trim since, we're talking about Buick not

Plymouth or Ford.

In any case I agree, the brightwork on the windows & the fact that the

rear windows roll down makes it cooler than any modern 2 door sedan.

Your friends 59 site is down BTW, my desktop wallpaper at work is his

black LeSabre 2 dr post. I think black looks sharp on '59s, esp. flattops.

There's a thin layer of bondo and a few rust spots right there by the right tail light.

Someone rear ended the car just enough to push the bumper in like a 1/2 inch &

years later this is the result. The car was painted recently at that horrible infamous

paint shop that us car nuts do not speak of.

Basically I'm buying this car from a crotchedy old man who has a classic car

collection that includes a much nicer '59 LeSabre Hardtop 2dr & a '59 Imapala 2dr

hardtop powered by a big block 348 mated to a 4-speed. This guy has seom real

rare cars & as he puts it this one was about to become his winter beater this year

untill he decided to trim the fleet and it was spared. He calls it a clunker, beater &

even refered to it as the "old jalopy".

I hope someday I'm well off enough to have a car this nice to sell for cheap

because my collection of rare & low milage 1959 American classica is getting too

big for my three properties & a small warehouse in the midwest. I guess that's

all he deals with is 1959s. He mentioned 1959 Cadillacs, Chevrolets, Mercurys &

Oldsmobiles. He also had an old ex-winter beater next to this car port: a rotted

out 1957 Packard with more patina than an unrestored WWII B17.

Still leaking like a faucet, have not even looked at the car since

except to charge the battery... I have a guy coming by on Sat.

to look at the car. back in the 1970s his first car was a 1964

Olds Ninety-Eight 4dr ht. later he blew the motor when he was in

college and the car went to automotive heaven via a crusher. :(

Now much older & wiser he wants another '64 Olds and I think

my Super-88 might be the ONE. I told him I was a "motivated"

seller and explained about the '59 Buick I want and my recent

troubles w/ the Q45, in other words: I'm asking $5995 but throw

out a reasonable offer and we'll meet in the middle. :)

No... it's a long story but basically the company that used to make them

told me to #%$@! myself unless I wanted a generic electric pump. I do

not beleive in cutting inot 42 year old wiring to put in a stupid electric

fuel pump on a 1964 car. So this means I have to drive down to south

Boston and drop off the pump, then wait for it to be rebuilt. It's only a

$90 cost at MOST to rebuild it, probably $70, but at this point it's more

an issue of time.

As far as the '59.... yes it's a 2dr post but many times a 2 door post is

still easier to unload than a 4 door hardtop. It seems there's a thousand

flat tops out there, perhaps I'll trade it for a flat top (4dr hardtop) to

someone on BUICK-59.com who wants a more sporty car. This LeSabre

would be the perfect car for some nutcase who wants a ridgid drag car.

I feel like I'm selling out 10% but then again going for my dream 90%.

Now that I have driven my Super 88 almost 2500 miles I'm ready for

the 1950s, the timing is crapy but this is the first time a 1959 Buick has

been available locally and even this one is 2 hours away.

I drove to N.J. in the fall of 2005 and looked at one with Balthazar, then

in Spring of 2006 I looked at the one up in Maine & a few months ago

there was a 2dr HT in the weeds behind a guy's house in NH... it was

pretty much a parts car and the guy wanted $2800.

Then let's not forget the one that was sold before I even called, and

although it did not sound much nicer than this LeSabre it was twice

the money, non-running. (just out of "storage")

I don't think the Cutty pump will do however... I might be wrong however.

The guy who rebuilds them said on the phone that the full size &

intermediates do not share pumps at all.... still that's not written in stone.

The gasket you posted seems to be (almost certain) the engine-to-pump

gasket which seals the oil but not fuel. My pump failed internally so it's

gushing fuel all over the road. Dangerous for sure. XP and I had the fire

extinguisher at ready on the way back. we drove like 128 out of the 130

miles the trip was roudtrip.... then about 3 miles way from my house is

when the pressure became too weak for the car to run. The carb is bone

dry but the frame, exhausts & oil pan were covered with gasoline.

Yes... while I do not need a motor & trans I'd def. consider that if I already

had a bare-bones 1930s chassis that I wanted to drop a old school motor

into for a budget rat rod!

SOOOOOOO TIRED!

I just finished editing the ebay listing for the Super 88

and adding more photos, tons more photos. I need to

go to bed, my alarm goes off at 4:55 and it's already

12:53.

Much thanks to SpeedingPenguin, who is letting me

use his eBay account. Mine is in suspense right now,

my feedback is 473, 100% positive but they think I

owe them $236 as of my last bill & I thinkit';s closer

to $50 but since ebay has the customer service of the

Stalin administration I had to "borrow" SP's account.

I've talked with several potential buyers now and I'm getting al kinds

of silly stories and tall tales. In the edn my reserve of $4500 may not

be met and I might have to rethink this whoile thing.

I think if it does not meet reserve or come damn close I'll just keep

the Super 88. I need to do some introspective reflection, I might be

getting stupid about this whole thing. At any rate the auction ends in

a short few hours so we'll see.

Maybe I will just keep the Super 88 & part out the Cadillac STS, then

sell the Datsun and add that to my tax refund money to buy the '59

Buick while keeping the Super 88 too. I'll be happy to sell the Datsun

if it means I can own both the 1964 Olds & a 1959 Buick!

Saw your auction. I suspect most people who would pick up a vintage car on eBay like the thought of a one-way plane trip to wherever the car is located and a romantic cross-country home in your new/old Merry Oldsmobile. Your leaking fuel pump eighty-sixes that notion as having to fix what you just bought is not romantic or idealistic at all. Again, not your fault, just the likely standpoint of the average eBay classic buyer - he's either wants to restore something rare or drive it home like it came off the lot for a bargain. Let's face it - its not a 442. Its not a Hurst. Its not a Toronado. Its not Chuck Berry's car. And its not a 1982 Ninety-Eight coupe on 23" rims and 23sq meters of rust that sold for nearly twice your reserve last week. Its stupid, but that's the market apparently.

You could always try selling it locally, but I think a car like yours is best kept with you. You enjoy it, you care for it, and honestly, few others would.

I don't know how 'bad' your Seville is, but try selling it locally. If its that bad, part it out. You've got the room to do it. Plus, much of the mechanicals are interchangable with Eldorado and some DeVilles. Don't know how much the Datsun is worth, but it can't be much either. Like with my car and me, its worth more to you than to someone else who's probably going to beat it to hell anyway.

Good luck in any case! And if you do fix the pump, I'll buy it for half what I'm offering Camino for his GTO - $48.00. I'll let you sleep on it.

It's a datsun and it's got 158,000 miles on it, so yeah

there's plenty wrong. The clutch will need to be done

soon, the rocker panels need some welding and the

fuel pump went about two weks ago. When I get it

running I still need to finish up the rear brake job...

(4whl disk brakes, remember) because XP and I

snapped a shim in half due to the slide pin being

rusted solid. Actually one of our buddies at Autozone

did the breakage but it was under my request to free

up the pin, even with about 2 bottles of PB blaster it

would not let go and just snapped like a twig when

the big guy put his shoulder into it on the vice.

Honestly Joe, if you want it and promisse not to ever

crush it or demolition derby it you can have it for half

of what I paid for it, in other words, I'll sell it to you

(or who ever else would be a loving owner) for $150

IF you promisse to try your best to restify/preserve it.

But I digress and I'm pretty sure you're just kidding.

My Super 88's ebay auction closed at $1750

So basically, like Fly said... some beat to F*** old

low rider '64 chevy is worth $7000 with a destroyed

interior and gucci rims but my original beauty is

worth less than the average asking price for a '92

I need to pul $4000 out of thin air so I can buy that

1959 Buick, that will be my daily driver while I rebuild

my Olds. Unless someoen off ebay actually offers

$4000 or damn close to it.

I personally like the Olds better. I don't think I've seen that Datsun yet Sity8, any pics? Hell I'd buy it... but with the Prizm acting up (I'll post that mess later today). it looks like it'll be some time before I've got spare cash.
