I aint a follower of Tesla, nor a hater.

My views are simply the opposite of a few that see what they wanna see...

Some just take a few numbers that they deem to be true because it fits their agenda of...hatred...

I posted  a link to which a COUNTRY other the the USA...Telsa's headquarters...is gonna invest BILLIONS in infrastructure to make sure that EVs last...

http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-33886180

And apparently it has been implicated elsewhere already...

So...we could all have a blind eye to it...because we think we are righteous in our minds....but the real world says otherwise...

And THAT is why NOBODY even addressed that link...

you guys could IGNORE me all you want...the thing is...when I post links that contradict your perfect world...I LAUGH...and just re-post and laugh some more...

here...a nice picture that I actually deem to be the funniest thing Ive seen in a LOOOONG time....I saw this pic 2 years ago...

ENJOY!

But...dont get mad when I tell you guys that Tesla is here to stay!!!  They got a product that people actually want...The Model S...the approx.  $100 000 Model S is selling quite well for its price tag...and remember...its an EV....not a M-B S-Class...an EV...range anxiety and all...but why bother with THAT reality!

Its OK...here is the pic I want you folk to enjoy!

I agree EVs are here to stay, who will be the main supplier is another thing and yes the US is a bit behind Europe in the roads that do charge the car as it drives. But the problem with that idea is you limit where you can go if you are low on power or use minimal battery just so the auto can get to the highway.

I want a 600 mile range battery pack in a wrangler so I can go off road and not worry about it.

This is the deal. EV models will be limited as long as they impact the social and life style areas of peoples lives.

#1 As long as they are smaller and more expensive over a conventional car this will impact market share.

#2 As long as they impact the way you live and your moves such as having to plan for charging times and such it will remain a limiting factor over a Gas power vehicle.

They are working on both areas but until they cost no more than a gas powered car and until you can charge one as fast as it takes to fill a tank of gas there will always be a limiting factor here. I expect both will be over come but the only question is how soon.

http://gas2.org/2015/02/25/tesla-model-s-2nd-best-selling-large-luxury-car-america/

In 2014...the Model S was the second most popular large sedan in sales at 18 400 units sold versus the M-B S class at 25 000 units. In third place was a very distant BMW 7 Series at half of that of the Model S at 9700 units.

In 2015, I dont know what the numbers are...I dont think the Model S has cooled off though.

As far as off-roading goes with EVs...

Its too bad you werent born when the automobile was first invented...no roads OR gas stations back then....range anxiety existed back then also, but it was a way of life...to off raod your Model T...

Look, 1920s Dodge too...

Can we stop with unnecessary bashing just to find faults?

Hyper mentions that Tesla owners think Musk or the Model S is Jesus Christ...

What...Lamborghini owners dont think their Lambos are Jesus?

17gjc97ssizehjpg.jpg

Or BMW owners thinking they could do what they want?

What about diesel pick-up truck owners....the OPPOSITE of EV owners....with their rolling coal crap?

The technology is evolving at a very quick pace...

When will EV technology in recharging and battery packs be at the equivalent level of gasoline powered cars?

Well....that is the fun part...to wait and see.

When was America's roads all paved from coast to coast?

When was Route 66 finally phased out in favor of the American Highway system?

When, and most importantly, how long and how much money, did it take to supply America with a gas station every 2 miles across every inch of the continental United States of America?

EVs and charging stations and serious thought into battery technology is a relatively new thing...think back to when the automobile was first created...in the 1890s...how long did it Henri Ford to produce his Model T? And how long after that did America get concrete roads and gas stations?

Picture of Bob Lutz fills my heart with gladness.  :smilewide:

I LOOOOOVE that pic...

It was a sarcastic meme made by an environmental nut who had written a blog about Lutz's Destino project. I forget what he wrote, but it was not nice regarding V8s and cars...

I just enjoy it because I find comfort in that truth about Lutz and his love for V8s in cars...

Yup, I aint an enviro nut...

I enjoy a Tesla Model S for what a car crazy guy gets all crazy for...

Stupendous instantaneous torque at ANY RPM, stupendous crazy speed in a 4 door sedan....sounds like a muscle car to me.

And yup...I love me some muscle cars!

Fast Facts

Some of the terminology and acronyms you will find when researching electric vehicles may seem confusing. Here are some definitions that will help you better understand the literature you will find.

EV - Electric Vehicle - A vehicle that is propelled by a motor powered by electrical energy from rechargeable batteries or another source onboard the vehicle

HEV - Hybrid Electric Vehicle - An EV that combines an internal combustion engine with an electric propulsion system. The charge on the batteries is maintained through the normal operation of the engine

PHEV - Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicle - An HEV that incorporates a separate battery system where the charge is maintained by plugging into an external power source

BEV - Battery Electric Vehicle - An EV that does not have a combustion engine at all, rather it relies solely on a battery system and must be plugged into a charging source to replenish the charge

EVSE - Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment - The "charging" equipment used to maintain a charge on EV battery systems

Level 1 EVSE - 120 Volt Charging Equipment - Can fully charge an all-electric vehicle in about 18 hours. A plug-in hybrid may charge to capacity in as little as six hours depending on the capacity of the battery pack

Level 2 EVSE - 240 Volt Charging Equipment - Similar to what is used for a clothes dryer, and is well suited for more quickly charging BEVs. Charging time is approximately three to eight hours, depending on vehicle type

Level 3 EVSE - High Voltage DC Charging Equipment - Requires three-phase electric service and is the most expensive system. The primary benefit is the capability to charge the vehicle to approximately 80 percent capacity in 30 minutes

Charge Coupler - The connecter and mating vehicle receptacle that connects the electric charging source to the electric vehicle

EPRI - Electric Power Research Institute - An independent, non-profit company performing research, development and demonstration in the electricity sector for the benefit of the public

SAE - Society of Automotive Engineers - A non-profit educational and scientific organization dedicated to advancing mobility technology to better serve humanity

J1772 - The North American (And Japanese adopted) SAE standard for the design of the Charge Coupler (a pin and sleeve device)

CCID - Charge Circuit Interrupting Device - A safety device that will disable utility power to your electric vehicle charger in the event that a loss of isolation is detected

Interesting find, many people are NOT happy with the Level 1 charging cords coming with their EV's, I found on the DIY (Do it Yourself) sites, one example is the instructables web site for DIY peeps.

http://www.instructables.com/id/313CONVERTING-A-2013-LEAF-LEVEL-1-12AMP-CHARGER-TO/

Found it very interesting how many people are clearly converting their cords to handle both 110 or 220 charging so they reduce their charge times.

Also found a site that allows you to pick your EV auto you bought and then get commercial 3rd party made cords so you can have a portable Level 1/2 charging cord.

http://evseupgrade.com/

So just to clarify for those wondering what this Level 1, Level 2 Level 3 charging is, you have 110V the slowest trickle charge out there at 14 to 16 hours, 220V faster charge usually you see an 8hr charge time and the fastest 440 3 phase charging or level 3 which gives you 80% charge in 30 min.

So what is the difference of a DIY cord versus buying one that was made? Your time and on average a difference of about $500 dollars. But if looks do not bother you, build it yourself. If you do not mind paying and getting a nice looking commercial level 1/2 portable cord, then buy. Your choice.

Less I forget that this is about Tesla, what is the Supercharger that Tesla does compared to these?

  • Superchargers coupled with SolarCity (of which Musk isChairmen) will produce “more energy than the cars will draw” from the unit, so you can be confident of truly green power in your Model S
  • units currently charge at 100 kW according to Musk (although Tesla’s official Superchargerpage lists therateicon1.png at 90kW), and 120 “into the future”
  • Supercharging is available for both the 85 kWh and 60 kWh versions of the Model S (not the entry level 40 kW)
  • Networkicon1.png consists of 6 stations now, that almost give total coverage of California (provided you are driving a 85 kWh/265 mile Model S)
