  1. Hell no.. Why abandon a market that still brings in mad profit and in reality.. using the numbers of the Mustang and Chally only.. has only seen a 1% decline in sales with almost no real new investment dollars. With the Camaro, I bet GM is seeing as a platform car.. ATS/CTS/Camaro. Certainly better sales are desired.. but the Alpha platform is getting utilized profitably. Yeah.. I bet the Chally is extremely profitable along with the 300 and Charger.. but Jesus.. outside of Jeep.. where else is FCA getting profit from in the U.S?

  2. Lots of interesting EVs coming my friend, trust me! :D I can understand and respect where you are coming from. For me, the lifestyle I have lived growing up and shown my own kids, a minivan would never work. My kids also could never use a car or minivan as the lifestyle they also live requires an SUV. From winter sports to offroading, camping exploring the world, they accept the lower fuel efficiency and added maintenance for the versatility an SUV gives them.

  4. And my point was that picture was taken 100% out of context by people who don't like him or his company. Just like politics, somebody can be slandered with one poor picture taken at an awkward timing. If you watched it, that is absolutely the worst possible picture that could have been taken. He literally took one hit. He didn't just sit back and light it up and look like a jackass. People who wanted him to look bad, made him look bad.

  5. your solution works good for you, and other solutions work good for others. You are buying insurance for 4 vehicles, and parts and maintenance on those. The risk for many who are not repair savvy and if a particular vehicle is not reliable, is that they may cost more to repair and maintain. Fuel costs are worth considering too. I've had a few vehicles where i have paid them off and then mysteriously after that happens then the AWD malfunctions, or the tranny threatens to die etc. 50% chance you'll win that scenario and 50% chance you will lose. I don't mind for a few years right now when we put huge miles on our vehicles, to lease. We travel to relatives a lot and so I like the peace of mind of a newer vehicle with warranty etc. And I get the best miles out of that vehicle. (We rode our town and country hard and put close to 50k miles on it and I didn't ever even put brakes or tires or anything on it. Had I bought it at lease end, the monthly would have gone up quite a bit and I would still be looking at maintenance costs. It is tempting to find a used vehicle that you can bet the future on and not have payments, but that's a bit of a roll of the dice. Mostly though, used vehicles with life cost an arm and leg too. If the lease terms are ok I am fine with that, but what is more of a loss are those that buy and then trade often, that is where you take the bath on paying for all that interest, depreciation, sales tax, etc. And an example of a minivan. I am never going to want to own it long term, my needs will change. So buying is not even smart in that degree.

  6. Cadillac has owned the vertical lighting signature when everything else has horizontals (here; mostly talking about taillights), it would be another unique design distinction to re-intro a markedly 'formal' roofline.
    2 points
  7. I rarely post non-manufacturer "concept" art... but this was just dead sexy. Cadillac could totally pull this off and make a coupe with actual distinction over something like the CLS or 6-series jellybeans.

  8. Cadillac was actually a pretty early adopter of this. I don't know if it was technically a "first" 2008 CTS

  9. Right...since the FRS/86/BRZ is seeing such high sales.

  10. Yes it did retract and while retracted you got a 2.5"~ high color screen for things like radio controls. The 2nd gen CTS and 2010+ SRX had it.

  11. I said nothing about "brand" and just the two individual items, ATS and CTS, don't sell well. Compared to their copmetition, they don't. I know I know, "THEY DON'T OFFER THE VARIATIONS THE COMPETITION DOES." I mentioned those two vehicles because if GM decided to make a RWD Chevy sedan it would very likely be one of those platforms stretched or shrunk.

  12. What I'm often perplexed by the most is HOW THE HELL is the Challenger ever really being called a competitor to the Mustang and Camaro in the first place? By that rationale I should call my Yukon a competitor to the Rav4. Dodge 198″ L x 76″ W x 56-58″ H Chevy 188-190 L x 75″ W x 53″ H Ford 188″ L x 75″ W x 54-55″ H Yet the first page of this thread is littered with Trunk pics. Well YEAH.. the Challenger has a bigger trunk. Its a FULL SIZE car almost the same length as an XTS

  13. Volvo's Cross Country lineup provides a middle ground between standard wagons and SUVs by combining elements of the two. You get the space and fuel economy of a wagon, while getting the off-road capability of an SUV. We've been waiting for Volvo to introduce a version of their recently unveiled V60 wagon. Today, Volvo did just that. The V60 Cross Country takes the standard V60 and raises ground clearance by 2.95 inches. There is also a set of lower body cladding. The U.S. version will get T5 (turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder), while European models get the choice of either the T5 or D4. Power goes to all four wheels via an all-wheel drive system. Hill-descent control and an off-road driving mode are standard. Volvo says mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains will be available at a later date. “With the new V60 Cross Country, we take our Swedish family estate from one natural habitat to another. We invented the Cross Country segment over 20 years ago and with this car, we reinforce our long-standing pedigree in safe, capable and versatile family cars,” said Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive of Volvo Cars. No word on pricing, but Volvo says that the V60 Cross Country will be available through the Care By Volvo program. We don't have a launch date, but we hope to learn about that sometime in the coming months. Source: Volvo New Volvo V60 Cross Country takes the Swedish family crossover utility off the beaten path Volvo Cars, the premium car maker, today revealed the new Cross Country version of its V60. The rugged V60 Cross Country is the latest addition to the company’s line-up of brand new Volvos that underpins the company’s transformation in recent years. Like its V60 sibling that was launched earlier this year on the driveway of a Stockholm villa, the V60 Cross Country personifies the versatile Swedish family crossover utility vehicle. To that profile, it adds the capability on and off the beaten track that has defined Volvo’s Cross Country range since its introduction in 1997, taking the V60 from the suburb to the skogen (Swedish for forest). “With the new V60 Cross Country, we take our Swedish family estate from one natural habitat to another,” said Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive of Volvo Cars. “We invented the Cross Country segment over 20 years ago and with this car, we reinforce our long-standing pedigree in safe, capable and versatile family cars.” Ground clearance for the V60 Cross Country is up to 75mm higher than the regular V60, thanks to the specially developed Cross Country chassis and suspension that enhance the car’s off-road capability. All-wheel-drive is standard on the new V60 Cross Country, as are Hill Descent Control, Electronic Stability Control, Corner Traction Control and a special Off-Road driving mode. Like its 60 Series and 90 Series stablemates, the new V60 Cross Country benefits from Volvo Cars’ award-winning Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform, safety technology and infotainment system. The new V60 Cross Country is also available through Volvo Cars’ premium subscription service Care by Volvo, which offers car access via a monthly flat-fee subscription rather than ownership. “The V60 Cross Country is every bit as refined as the other 60 and 90 Series cars based on our SPA platform,” said Henrik Green, senior vice president of research and development at Volvo Cars. “The added versatility makes it at home in town and country, thanks to a higher seating position, increased ground clearance and dynamic all-wheel-drive capabilities.” Volvo Cars’ award-winning City Safety with Autobrake is fitted as standard and assists the driver in avoiding potential collisions. It is the only system on the market to help recognise pedestrians, cyclists and large animals. The Pilot Assist system supports the driver with steering, acceleration and braking on well-marked roads up to 80 MPH. Run-off Road Mitigation, Oncoming Lane Mitigation and other steering assistance systems are standard. The optional Cross Traffic Alert with autobrake further enhances safety. These and other proven safety technologies make the new V60 Cross Country one of the safest cars on the road. Volvo Cars’ Sensus Connect infotainment system is fully compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 4G, and keeps drivers connected regardless of whether they travel in urban areas or across the countryside. The intuitive tablet-style touchscreen control combines car functions, navigation, connected services and in-car entertainment apps. The new V60 Cross Country will be available with a T5 AWD propulsion system. Mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants will follow at a later stage. View full article

  14. Same reason I grew up in 4x4 wagons (Suburu GL and Dodge Colt Vista)... we were always out camping and such. The "wilds" of NJ where we went weren't enough to warrant a Suburban, but if we really needed to get somewhere the Colt Vista couldn't, my dad's F250 could do it. That said, my dad couldn't help taunting a show-off Wrangler driver who was on a lightweight off-road course. Put the Colt Vista into 4WD and started following him around the course with 2 kids in carseats in the back.

  15. again.. not true. The ATS and CTS are not exactly US only vehicles... and do decently in China. This would be like saying Buick isn't a strong brand because they are only selling about 300K in the US.. when one looks at the real numbers.. they see an additional 1 Million Globally. I'm not saying the ATS and CTS are 3Series and 5 Series selling equivalents.. but I wouldn't doubt that along with the Camaro.. at least in the Global sense they are doing pretty decently. AGAIN!!! GM is not a singular company. Judging its sales on certain other targeted vehicles is not necessarily telling.

  16. That is Cadillac, I am talking a Chevrolet family series that helps to reduce cost by spreading the DNA over a wider range of products. Chevrolet Camaro - 2 door Chevrolet SS - 4 door Chevrolet Blazer - 4 door CUV etc. etc. etc. I still believe if they truly focused on quality auto's that delivered on the performance creed and pushed down that you could have a family of auto's on a single platform that would deliver what people are wanting from fuel efficient commuter auto to performance, CUV etc.

  17. I'm sure you could do direct orders, but no, they weren't only direct order. They were limited in the total number sold. Chevy only planned to sell X of them every year.

  18. Yep, the Durango as well. I'm not much of an FCA fan but what they do have, sells pretty well and they're pretty good vehicles.

  19. This is where GM if they have some thinking heads will learn from the mistakes of Pontiac. Keep the Pony car, but build a family of performance from it with the 2 door pony car, 4 door performance sedan and performance 4 door CUV. Streamline the product line onto a single platform that allows to maximize profits, brand, auto name, etc. to drive sales.

  20. ...and Durango. The products they ahve are actually pretty decent for what they are. The new Ram is really growing on me. I did not expect to like it as much as I do.

  22. Think Chinese owned FORD for the Truck / SUV line only, they will dump everything else to build and import in their own car crap.

  23. Personally, I think Camaro needs a new style. This one has run its course. If they wanted to improve it, change the entry / exit. Change the bunker look and open up the greenhouse and add a 4 door sedan along with CUV inspired auto's. GM made a Honda mistake like the ugly Civic mess that dies after one model year. Admit the changes were wrong and move forward.

  24. Which shows how irrational the stock market is. The happiest thing I have read all week. Given the way I am feeling about Ford right now....shutter the plants. Sadly, no....probably bought by the Chinese who will appreciate the technology.

  25. The Mustang is much easier to get into and out of..... even in my old age I can feel the difference between a Camaro and Mustang. Once I get into a Camaro, I am comfortable... but getting in and out is a chore compared to Mustang.

  26. At least they picked a different name..... it's just the interior and grille that are Camaro inspired

  27. You can buy CRC or Gumout throttle body cleaner and then with the engine off, manually open full wide the butterfly, spray everything and you will see the carbon wash away and then start the auto and let it get blown out. It will run rough but then should smooth out. You can also as Drew stated run top tier gas or get one of the many cleaners you add to the tank and then fill up. On my daughters 1999 Durango with 5.9L V8 I used Gumout and sprayed heavily to clean the throttle body and intake. started it and let it run to smooth and then while running finished using the can into the throttle body and let it naturally just clean everything out. I then did an oil change as the carbon also gets trapped in the oil but it was time for one. Over all that plus the other normal 30,000 mile tune up stuff and the Durango pures like a kitten. Good Luck,

  28. Depends on how bad and where the gunk is. Honestly just running top tier fuel for a few tanks would probably be enough.

  29. “Customers forget a new car is now more than $30,000 and they expect it to be $20,000,” said Brian Allan, a senior director at Galpin Motors Inc., to the Wall Street Journal. ---------people want a loaded CUV but still want to only pay for the basic mid sized sedan. And TBH that is sort of my thinking too. “When people see the price has gone up, it is sticker shock, especially when people only buy a car every five to six years." -------Yup that too. It is rare and a treat for people to buy A car, much less a new one, even as often as every 5-6 years. So when prices do go way up you can clearly see it does create shock. Data from Edmunds reports that the gap between the price of a new and used car is now at one "of its largest points in more than a decade". Key reasons for this gap include consumers trending to trucks and SUVs, and automakers adding more expensive tech. -------I believe this. This summer saw a strong demand for used cars and analysts are predicting this trend to continue throughout the rest of the year, partly due to dealers stocking more trucks and utility vehicles. ------yup we're starting to see the first huge wave of mass used CUV's. I think the proliferation of all this new safety and autonomous tech, and touch screens and stuff, and complicated powertrains, has scared away some new buyers too. The see having to pay big money for breakdowns on non essential stuff. Less risk now to buying a used vehicle with a limited amount of items to malfunction or go wrong. To me back ten years ago, it was that you wanted to be sure to have the proper airbags, stability control, and maybe bluetooth. Then you'd have enough of the new stuff. But now, there is auto emergency braking, lane keep assist, turbos, AWD, expensive touch screens. If you don't buy new to get those fancy things you may be more prone to avoiding that stuff buying used because way less cost and more simplicity. Just a theory.

  35. Never understood this BS about backseat or gunslit windows.. Its silly.. when comparing it to the Mustang... which has an unusable backseat and the window visibility is not much better. Best thing for people complaining about such things is to buy an SUV. Cause in truth.. with exception to the backseat thing.. the Challenger isn't much better in terms of visibility. Car enthusiasts have become BORING. The Camaro is competing also with the Vette to a degree. Ford has no competitor to the Mustang.. and Dodge definitely doesn't. U wanna see sales jump?? Chevy should thumb its nose at the enthusiasts... and make a Camaro Sedan
    1 point
  36. I guess I may be one of the few that isn't bothered by the poor visibility of the 6th gen. I tend to drive using my mirrors rather than the windows anyway. But what gets me is the naming convention. From the article: "Chevrolet has cut prices on the Camaro 1LS, 1LT, and 2LT as part of the 2019 refresh. They have also introduced a 1LE version for the 2.0L turbo-four to better compete with the Mustang EcoBoost. The 1LE brings a chassis package from the 1LE V6, 20-inch wheels, and a six-speed manual for only $30,995 (includes shipping)." What's with all the trim level letters? I'm shopping right now and when it comes to Mustang, it's pretty clear. You have the ecoboost and the GT. Trim is either "premium" or not. I think this must hurt sales too. Use names, not letters.

  37. useless backseat can't see out of it / no windows / loooowwwwww roof can't see over the gauge hood no trunk transformers styling has run its course it's not a usable daily transportation device. not enough people who buy cars like this as a spare toy car. only people who can afford em are getting my age and older and they don't wanna bend so far down to get into cars anymore either. Camaro XUV

  38. A match made in heaven...two groups that truly deserve each other. Except that Fords Chinese sales are in the tank. Even people who used Ox carts for centuries and still travel mostly by bicycle have their standards, mind you. Shutter the plants. All of them. If we are talking post mid 1970's Ford...there is no such thing as a good blue oval.
