Just have Cadillac Korea do all the marketing instead. GM USA marketing is lame.5 points
-
It's not anywhere near that simple since much student debt is privately held. The real threat is corporate debt. 9 trillion of it. Companies that are cash-flowing today could become black holes of bankruptcy in just a few months time. The US auto manufacturers, for once, are ahead of the game. FCA paid off most of its debt, GM is going through their major restructuring to lower costs. Ford is doing the same. If/when a global recession hits in the near term, the auto manufacturers do not want to need to be bailed out again.4 points

Cadillac's American IG account is pretty tho. The problem with Cadillac is their TV spots. The almost non-existent ones. They need to be on every Football game for CT6, CTS, and Escalade.. if that C8 we keep seeing has a Cadillac twin.. Football game premiere.. Every talk show spot and Power, and Empire episode.. XT5, XT4, and ATS Coupe3 points

Of course. Since the announcement I've been seeing more and more of them. Its kind of weird. Point blank they really need to rethink a lot of their decisions pertaining to closing certain plants.. and killing certain vehicles. This and the Impala should be saved. The Impala utilizing the Omega platform, slightly smaller (or Alpha-L), and with less power and amenities. In line completely with the Charger as a better alternative to that old bones vehicle. Complete with an LT4 powered SS-R to kick the HellCat's ass3 points

I've seen a half dozen CT6s in the last week...they are striking. Saw one in a dark red Saturday night in a parking garage. Fit right in amongst the German luxury cars around it. Love the headlight pattern at night when I see one coming up behind..3 points

Quite frankly I’ve seen some bonehead moves in the auto industry over the last 35 years.. but this one might just take the cake. I’m not gonna speak on crazy comebacks that didn’t get enough attention and they crashed and burned like the Oldsmobile debacle.. and how GM was gonna rename the company Aurora.. put out class leading cars like the Aurora, Intrigue and Alero.. then killed the division. We won’t talk about the super cool Trofeo Toronada.. or the bend to tree-huggers with killing Hummer instead of simply merging it with GMC. Naaaah.. I’m not gonna bring up the fact that they killed the unanimously voted best sports sedan Chevy SS.. but instead of saying “hey We have this great new platform for mid and fullsize vehicle in Alpha and Omega.. we could merge the almost as great Impala with this vehicle.. give it AWD options and engines from 4-8 cyclinders and absolutely STAB the market.” Hell they could have even went the opposite way and simply given the Impala all the options of the XTS from start, and detuned the engine for argument sake. I won’t even whisper about the fact that they had all of us luxury shoppers wishing and waiting for a full size RWD/AWD Cadillac that absolutely made us proud.. gave us one.. then turned around and gave it a super V8 engine as we had begged them for.. and hen they killed it!!! OH Wait.. That’s exactly what I’m gonna talk about. This morning I took my 2016 CTS-V to the dealership for a simple Recall procedure. No parts were exchanged, just a reprogram I’m told. The recall was for the steering module. All in all I dropped it off at 9am and they called me at 12p to let me know that it was complete. Of course I wasn’t able, nor willing to go back there to pick up my beautiful Rose. I had meeting all day, not to mention they loaned me a pristine, well equipped Black Raven 2018 CT6 Premium Luxury with Super-Cruise and a 3.6L V6. The Drive: I have driven the CT6 before, but not once had I ever driven a 3.6L for anything other than a quick test drive. The engine I’m most familiar with is the 3.0lTT, which was not on the menu today. I do have to say that if I were in charge of Cadillac’s engine choices, the 3.6L would not be in any of their cars. I say this for superficial reasons only. As a way of differentiation... I believe that Cadillac should only have forced induction offering. What that means is that in a CT6, a car coming in with a 122.4 inch Wheelbase, 204 inches long and curb weight varying from 3700-4400lbs, a 3.0LTTV6 (404HP) would be the base, and the upcoming two iterations of the 4.2L TTV8 would be its mid (500HP) and top (550HP) engine choices. All that being said.. the 3.6L actually moves this vehicle around quite well with a mere 335HP. I mean really well. That’s coming from a guy who dropped off a 650HP mid-sizer before hopping in this humongous automobile. And speaking of which. Driving the CT6 even with just 335HP, and all that length, I never felt as though I were driving a big car. Take a drive in an LS460, S-Class, 7series, or fat ass Audi A8.. U actually feel like U are driving a big car. No the case with the CT6. I almost felt like I was still maneuvering my CTS, a car that is almost 8 inches shorter. Super-Cruise: Wow. Check out my video. This is something else. I will say that GM lawyers were definitely consulted on this, but even with their certain input, the tech really works.2 points

Does alphanumeric naming actually evoke images of luxury more so than actual names? It is a questioned I've pondered since Cadillac brought forth the G1 CTS. The issue, I think with names, stemmed from Cadillacs, Acuras, and Lincoln wishing to appeal to the luxo buying crowd by emulating the Europeans. In addition, the idea was to have focus laid squarely on the Brand name and not the car. To say "I drive a BMW," even if was a 3 series, ends up giving a bolster to the entire brand. Saying "I drive a Seville," in the modern age of 50 different brands, took focus off the Cadillac brand. Of course an argument could be made that having individual names serves as a bolster to the overall substance of the car group because it gives them individualism that could in turn served to elevate the brand, and the owner of each car to a more exclusive feel of not just having a "number and letter" combination. With Cadillac there is no real consistency with the naming scheme anyway. Why not go back to names? Some will argue for the classic names like Deville, and Fleetwood. The Classics are only classics to those who fancy themselves Enthusiasts. The buying public might see the name Fleetwood to be to reminiscent of Grand-dad or granny. I digress. what luxury brand actually have Names and not alphanumeric other than Bentley and Rolls? I could see Cadillac pulling off a helluva revolution with that one gesture. If anything it shows great deal of creativity creating a car around the euphoria of a name. Hell... You can't be a guy name Duke, and not be tough. You can't be a girl named Alexis, and not be sexy. You damn sure can't be a car named "Ciel", and not be elegant In truth the only one that would be difficult would be the CTS due to it being very established. If GM get the word out to the Media, perhaps going so far as to ask them their opinions on record, they could circumvent any of the usual smartass comments magazine writers come up with in their commentaries. ####################################### With billions on Advertising.. GM just focus that money for one year on INFORMATION only ads. I mean literally having ads that are brand based that literally inform the customer. Straight to the dome. I'm talking about taking a film crew into the engineer, design, and marketing rooms... fly on the wall of what U are offering, but without, obviously, giving away secret sauce. My commercial would open "MTV style," 5th Symphony "DEM DEM DEM DOOOOM" with marketing guys talking in a conference room, Cadillac logo HUGE on the wall..: This is the new Cadillac Solitaire. We used to call it ATS, but following, not leading, led us down a stark, Teutonic mishmash of alphabet soup. Teutonic? Cadillac is CADILLAC. AMERICAN. Americans have names.. 2) Next cut to engineering: We wanted a car that could corner like on rails, do 0-60 sprints like a bat out of hell, had an uncompromising ride that didn't jar U back into the days of stone wheels on a Yaba-Daba-Doo mobile. Fuel efficient, and laden with technology. (Each time the narrator says something, the camera pans to the car doing just that.. whether a quick maneuver on the track, a sprint, a serine ride up the cost, and then a quick view of CUE.) 3) Next cut to Design... etc "At the end we got the AT... er... Solitaire.." narrator clears throat and laughs slightly.2 points

Thank U. My GF keeps telling me.. "Its too bad U didn't take that Johan guy's place." I tell her.. the only way I'd do it is if I had full run of the brand, with that $12Billion Budget and Tadge and Al Oppenheiser would be at my beck and call. I'd hire the designers from Hermes' for interior, but also I'd have Timberland on call for all the trucks.. Call Ed Welburn back outta retirement.. Bob Lutz would be an advisor.. and that move back to Detroit would be nixed.. back to NYC. The addition of names would be substituted for those letters.: Scrap the BS Letters. Fuc k the European naming scheme. CT3 = Converj CT3 Coupe with optional Convertible=Solitaire CT5= Imaj CT5 Coupe with optional Convertible= Evoq CT6 with optional 4dr Convertible= Ciel CT8= Sixteen Mid-Engine= Cien XT4= Agile XT5-Provoq XT6= Vizon Escalade Everything has EV model, utilizing that Engine set up from the EV Camaro and I've never seen this before.. its a Caddy Concept from '09 Cadillac World Thorium Fuel Concept2 points

GM routinely licenses out its technology. They had camera mirrors, though not full-time real-time streaming, as far back as 2010. That is how the 2nd gen Equinox got a rearview camera if one didn't select NAV. The image popped up in the mirror. Cars are not new... you must still drive a Curved Dash because if electric cars haven't changed in 100 years, neither have gasoline powered cars.2 points

Why would younger people worried about having to schedule a 20 min oil change at 10,000 miles even BE at a car show? I thought this age group was crushed under student debt and unable to afford anything more expensive than a street kitchen burrito, nevermind a totally discretionary older vehicle that they are then going to put 10s of thousands into to convert to an EV? It's easy to spout automotive platitudes in casual conversation, let's see what they actually DO.2 points

RE the NYT piece, some counterpoints to consider: • If/when the 'Blue Wave' hits; a number of it's players have floated forgiving all student debt, so that could disappear with a signature. Unfortunately, that bubble will just pop up somewhere else. But even if student debt is upheld, just out of college adults are not buying houses & cars, they're a literal non-factor in the economy on that scale, so their debt is not going to crash the economy. • 'Stocks are down 1.5% this year'. OMG, no. Let's ignore that they were up 19.4% last year (S&P 500).2 points

What a pretty fantastic review of this car from AUTOMOBILE MAG.. essentially saying that a CT6 Platinum would be an S-Class if not for CUE.. which I personally didn't have an issue with, but I also didn't look for any radio stations because I keep my own playlists on a 32GB flash drive and CT6-V look over at LA Autoshow. This was my point in terms of engine choices. Using the 7Series and starting with the 740i 3.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder 320 hp @ 5500 rpm. Torque: 332 ft-lbs what GM did was (and I'm skipping the non-existent 2.0L Turbo that I have found to be a White Wolf on dealer lots in the area) They gave us the 3.6L 335 HP. @ 6800 RPM. Torque: 284 ft lb. ^^^ @ 4100lbs C&D got 0-60 in 5.9secs The 740i @ 4650lbs does it in 5.4secs.. WHY? Cause of all that torque What should Caddy have done? Instead of the 3.6L.. send it over to Chevy and Buick and be done.. installed a 3.0L TT with say 350HP and a most probable 355 ft-lbs of.. VIOLA!!! The CT6 would have destroyed the BMW in that acceleration contest Vs the 750i? Back then I would have easily said go with the 3.6L TT V6 LF4 @ 464HP vs the BMW 750 with its 4.4-liter BMW TT V-8, @ 443-hp engine.. Yes the BMW would still have more torque, but the Caddy being lighter and having a 20 HP advantage would at least hold its own. As it stands the BMW 750 0-60 is 4.6 secs, the Cadillac CT6 3.0L TT is 5.0 Secs. Ya think 60 more HP would have helped it clobber that BMW? I do. Now of course Cadillac has a 4.2L TT V8 ready with 500 hp and 553 lb-ft. THAT!!! is the 750i competitor imo. The 760i (and Alpina B7) would be the CT6-V's boy.. boasting less HP by 50, but besting in torque by almost 40 ft-lbs. NOTE: Why is BMW continuing to use the V12 when I've heard from a few colleagues who have driven(or owned) both the 760i and B7, reporting back that the V8 in the B7 is ever bit as smooth and more efficient? Anyway.. all that being said, I expect that the tests of the CT6-V bring more questions than answers. As in "WHY THE f@#k.. is Cadillac killing this perfection?" One more thing... INTERIORS: I have said it on more than one occasion.. all of the complaints some people have with interiors and refinement in Cadillacs always.. and I mean always (with exception to the instrument cluster in the ATS-V) seems to die when U experience it in a V. Even the Platinum. The walk from even an XT5 to an XT5 Platinum makes one say.. why is Cadillac not using this platinum interior (or V) in all their cars/suvs above a Luxury model. In fact, kill the Standard and luxury models and start with Premium Lux, Platinum, and V2 points

I agree, Cadillacs should all be forced induction. Love the pics and the review and the review video! Cadillac is so foolish if they kill this car. And i don't think they will. I think they will bring it from China. They've done enough fixes that the car deserves to live. They need to price and package it for more sales volume. Your comments about the 3.6 are interesting. I tested a Regal GS this weekend and didn't like the 3.6, didn't like it in the LaCrosse either. Most GM's with the 3.6 I can't like much. But I am intrigued by how you say this CT6 performs.2 points

I really hope the CT6 hangs around as the V edition is just drop dead sexy! The interior is just awesome! Love me this Brown interior!2 points

Obviously I feel the same. Thing is that despite its death, the car is slated to have enuff inventory to go into 2020. I would propose that Cadillac kill all the lower models and only have the mid to platinum models. And for all Cadillacs.. Be done with that rubberized steering wheel cover. Go with the one I have in my V, covered in leather.2 points

Said it before and I'll say it again.. having both of these brands.. er.. all three.. U see the differences. Cadillac dealer is all accommodating.. Chevy dealer is not. Only when I go in with a $60-$100K Corvette do they roll out Orange carpet. That is inconsistent with the fact that one can now purchase $80K Camaros and Tahoe/Suburbans/Silverados from the place.. but hey.. Chevy is the Every man brand at GM the same as Ford, Toyota, Honda are. Again.. the Corvette should be a separate brand in a partitioned off dealership spot at Chevy or CADILLAC if enthusiasts aren't allowed to make the decision. If Enthusiasts have to have Corvette at Chevy.. then partition it off.. and treat them with the same love one gets at Cadillac. Corvettes are not cheap. They are a vehicle selling for $60K to a soon to be $150K. This is about $5-7K less than your Porsche line-up unless U get into the E-Hybrid models.. Which GM should be gearing up to do. People want to say that "No one will spend $150K on a Vette..." FUUCK outta here. They can and THEY WILL. I have to constantly remind people.. some of my colleagues have Porsches. Its THEIR ONLY car, even the 911 and the Cayman/Boxster owners. Some might have a beater that is 10 years old. Vette owners very seldom have just a Vette as their DD. Most that I know also own a Silverado/Sierra, Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade or something else as a daily. Normally they are no more than 5 years old if that. I don't even drive my Vette or V in the rain or when it looks like its gonna rain cause I don't want to get it dirty. Many who own a Vette as a toy have the same mind set. Meaning.. THEY HAVE MONEY. They needed to be catered to just like the cats at Caddy.. which ironically sells at the same price point as CORVETTE. My Z06 retailed for the exact same as my CTS-V. Bet good money that the CT6-V comes in priced like a ZR1, which will still be less expensive than a B7 Alpina by about $17K1 point

The Dynacorn shell is over $16,000, and it's 10 pieces (body shell, 2 doors, trunklid, 6 hinges). Now they just have to add another 1500 parts/pieces, plus the re-engineering of the shell where needed to incorporate the EV bits. I'm going to peg a company-sustainable price at minimum of $140,000.1 point

There are Chevy dealers that get special treatment based on the number of Corvettes they sell... or the number of Silverados they sell. A Corvette sub-brand "boutique"* inside of certain dealers would work. That's how Genesis launched. *I hate that word in regards to buying cars.1 point

Restoring is a Generational thing, younger people have an interest in older auto's but I am seeing at the local car shows younger people also saying they do not want to have to mess with all the maintenance of an ICE auto. Times change and as older folks pass away, younger folks will fall into two camps, those that will tinker with the old ICE auto's and those that will restore with modern power trains to enjoy driving the auto but without the maintenance. We are already seeing the death of auto clubs and car shows, if we do not change with the times to find a way to excite younger generations, a way of life will truly be lost to the history books. POSITIVE THINKING, My Wine Glass is ALWAYS half full. I believe that auto companies will want to find a way to keep young folks buying auto's. if they do not then auto companies will die and shrink and that would be bad. I believe because I want to that companies who want to have a long profitable life in selling product will find a way to have lower cost auto's. Laugh my friend at the Chinese personal transport pods, but that very well could be part of the future in America as it is in China.1 point
