Bout time rates went up and the senseless cycle of financialization ended. When rates go up people save rather than spend. Why does that need such a negative media spot light? Saving is good! Pay off debt! Damn media is unhinged...3 points

Loving the looks of this Truck! Like their thinking, be interested to see if they hit their 2020 production start goal. A NEW OWNERSHIP EXPERIENCE Atlis Motor Vehicles isn’t just changing the truck, we’re changing the ownership experience. We’re developing purchase and all-inclusive subscription models, designed to stretch your dollar further and maximize your electric pickup truck experience. For subscribers, this means significant monthly savings. It also means an ongoing experience of new vehicles, every three, five, or seven years. Maintenance will be covered, as will charging. For direct purchases, we’ll be offering a warranty you can count on, with the convenience of pay-as-you-go charging. Atlis Subscriber Club New vehicle every 3, 5 or 7 years Maintenance is 100% covered Insurance is 100% covered Unlimited free charging Starting at just $700/month Direct Purchase 10-year, 100% warranty Pay-as-you-go charging Must carry personal insurance Starting $45,000 Service & Warranty EV’s have inherently longer maintenance intervals than combustion engines, and our trucks are being designed for minimal maintenance and maximum longevity. But when needed, maintenance and repairs will be carried out by independently operated shops who are certified to maintain Atlis Motor Vehicles pickup trucks, as well as our own service stations and mobile service capabilities which will gradually be established as we continue to grow. Basic maintenance items such as tire changes can be performed at any shop where you can take your existing vehicle. Our warranty details won’t be fully determined until we’re closer to production, but we are planning for a 10-year warranty. With our subscription service, all routine maintenance will be covered, and the warranty will last at least the duration of the subscription.2 points

I think Buick could be in danger in the US. One thing is clear is that they will be an all SUV brand in the US soon.2 points

I wonder how much of the SUV change over is just the general aging of the population. Hauling Albert's parents around it is much easier to get them in and out of the Encore than it is to get them in and out of the Cruze.2 points

'During' pic of header construction. Arrows show severed collector, positioned on a movable wooden stand, but providing a 'target' for the re-flowing of the individual pipes. Was able to (initially) to re-use the 2 cut-off pieces, which you see taped/clamped here. If you look back one page to the post dated Sept 13, you can see the original header configuration, showing how tube 1 and tube 4 would be going right into the steering box, basically sitting 'outboard of' tubes 2 & 3. I also decided to (temporarily) mount the dash substructure and the steering column so I could eyeball the column-shifted trans linkage. I have to go with an aftermarket universal linkage (Lokar) anyway, but it should be fine.2 points

Too many boring AWD/FWD transverse 4cyl or V6 automatic appliances...I know that is what the market seems to want, but does GM really need 4 brands worth of them? Different styling, same boring hardware underneath... Not that different than GM in the 80s-90s when they had so many similar, overlapping subcompact, compact and midsize FWD transverse 4cyl and V6 sedans and coupes...so much forgettable mediocrity.2 points

I saw the new Edge and Blazer in person, I didn't snap pics cause they're that ugly. Spare you the eye strain. The Edge looks exactly like the EcoSnooze...EcoFlail...The UNEconomicalSport... Not a good look. And the Blazer is a Frankenstein. Why...just whyzzz... Even my brother - he's into SUVs with X6 and Merc crossover coupe style because I qoute he 'likes their fat asses' WTF... The two domestic automakers, they cancel their best looking stuff left and right and leave behind in exchange really questionable looking crossovers....BUTT that is the reason...1 point

The "Jaws" series marathon was on this weekend. I caught the second half of the first one, which I'd already seen several times. Much better to have a 007 marathon. I thought about this before and thought about it more this time. Is a shark wired to be that vindictive to want to come around repeatedly and raise hell? As in the constant pounding of the fishing vessel "Orca?" In videos in which people are aboard a boat, they'll breach further out or they'll come above the surface if people have thrown food scraps into the water, but I've never heard of their becoming obsessed with a boat and its passengers. If someone is inside a shark cage that's under the surface, they may keep coming around but, even then, they might not stick around indefinitely.1 point

Getting a strong SIlverado vibe off the front : busy with an Eastwood glare. This one does look better than the Rivian (which I don't hate the looks of but it's certainly not 'trucky'). Relatively easy these days to build a one-off and get tons of press/free advertising... but as usual we'll have to wait & see it they build any; Faraday was founded 4.5 years ago and still nothing. As far as the rear end goes- there's only so much design can do when there's a uber-important tailgate involved.1 point

Ford HD Platinum is $100,000 and they are selling those diesels, so a person who wants to be green will love having a 500 mile range HD pickup that is silent electric.1 point

Tesla didn't introduce a 100% concept until they had their feet under them slightly with some brand recognition. Remember, their first vehicle was a modified Lotus crammed with batteries and motors. Who in their right mind drops 100k on a fully electric HD truck? There's no way the 35k towing/5000lb payload is going to be even close to "affordable" for 99% of the people in the market for an HD truck.1 point
-
True, anyone can take money but then Tesla was in this place many years ago, they got people excited and have a very loyal following. As stated Detroit, Tesla never has been part of Detroit and Tesla DOES NOT build a full size Pickup Truck. Gotta admit this truck looks even better than Rivians pickup truck and does address the 5.5 ft bed as Atlast offers in 6.5 ft or 8 ft along with Dually option which is what allows the High Gooseneck towing of 35,000lbs. Per their own website based on configuration of battery pack and single wheel or dually you have the following very realistic figures: TRAILER HITCH TOWING CAPABILITIES (lbs): 5,000 10,000 15,000 20,000 FIFTH WHEEL AND GOOSENECK TOWING CAPABILITIES (lbs GCWR): Single rear wheel 10,000 25,000 Dually rear wheel 15,000 30,000 20,000 35,000 PAYLOAD CAPABILITIES (lbs) 1,000 2,000 3,500 5,000 AVAILABLE SUSPENSION OPTIONS With air springs and an independent rear suspension, the Atlis Motor Vehicles ensures that heavy loads are properly leveled, while providing the utmost in ride comfort. Standard: Air spring with dynamic load damping and 12-inches of ground clearance Optional: Off-road long travel suspension with 15-inches of ground clearance * Off-road long travel suspension unavailable with higher towing and payload options These guys have all worked in the auto industry and bring a ton of real life experience to this start up.1 point

Here is the Atlis website...first I'd heard of them. Looks like it's an American company, some of the leadership team has past auto industry experience. There is a pic of the rear--the taillights, tailgate and rear bumper reminds of an early 90s F150. http://www.atlismotorvehicles.com1 point

Love the interior, this should be a wake up call to the Detroit Legacy OEMs. A center-mounted digital touch screen will serve as the hub for vehicle settings, heating and cooling, and infotainment with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Use its physical rotary knob to make fast commands and quickly change settings. The dash instrumentation will be a multi-split digital touch screen displaying all live vehicle information, including live video feeds from the standard driver assistance cameras. The unique UI behind the wheel ensures the user is in complete control and allows for various customization. This creates a personal connection as you will be able to create an aesthetic you want. @balthazar You should love the bed options.1 point

That Rock's, I love the look of this pickup and the fact unlike Rivian that they made a fold down door for the FRUNK. This way it has very easy access into the storage area. http://www.atlismotorvehicles.com/1 point

I get it...after almost 25 years of having an SUV as a daily driver, I find it perfectly natural. My WK2 GC sits a bit higher than my WJ GC (20 vs 16 inch wheels/tires), but it's still very easy to get in and out compared to a car.. I was 24 when I first started driving SUVs daily (Bronco II)...and now I'm 48..and feel my age in my knees and hips.. though I do miss driving cars w/ manuals.1 point

Why would you even bother with compliance cars that only get sold in California? They are the equivalent of putting a small gas engine in a horse carriage... so compare it to the Curved Dash, not the Model-T. Look at the real EVs that were purpose-built. The Model S, Model 3, Chevy Bolt were all purpose-built to be EVs, just like the Model-T was purpose-built to be an automobile rather than a horseless carriage.1 point

I keep seeing this argument over trying to force an EV into a ICE use pattern. That is faulty thinking. To successfully switch to EVs, one must change the way one thinks about fueling. With the exception of free Supercharging, "filling up" while out on the go is much more expensive than "Filling up" at home. With an EV with the range of the Bolt or any Tesla, there should nearly never be "filling up" while out and about. Plug it in at home and start every morning with a full tank. If you don't have a place to plug in at home, then an EV is not for you. Buy an ICE or Hybrid. If you regularly drive more than 250 miles in a day, then an EV is not for you. Buy and ICE or Hybrid. If 90% of your driving is less than 100 miles one way and you have a place to plug in at home, then an EV might work for you. EVs make excellent second cars in a multi-car family. Something used for daily commuting that uses no gasoline while the gasoline powered family truckster gets used for road trip duties. They make an excellent first car for someone who doesn't do road trips.1 point

I'm still on the younger side of life and getting in and out of a smaller SUV/CUV is much preferred than getting out of my Focus. I thought my Escape's seat height was perfect for my height. The step in and out was almost exactly my standing height so I didn't step up or down to get in and out of it. I want another.1 point

Any compact car? Just the fillup process itself of 10-11 gallons doesn't take more than 3 minutes. It probably takes as long to put the card in, type in zip code or PIN and tell it I don't want a car wash as it does to put the gas itself in. I'll be getting gas in the next couple of days. Hopefully I can remember to time it.1 point

Dave- you keep trotting this out as if it were unequivocal. 1. Early 1900s autos were not taken on long trips- there was zero highways and very very few paved roads; you actually couldn't get very far if you wanted to. They were only used for occasional local drives; they were not depended on as transportation by & large. 2. You discount the then-plentiful farms having various fuels on hand, and early cars were simplistic enough to run on a variety of fuels. There was no range anxiety back then. Still, a number of determined motorists completed cross-country trips in the very early years: https://www.wired.com/2016/05/tale-epic-coast-coast-road-trip-1903/1 point

Buick and GMC with regard to CUVs seem to be like Buick and Olds in the 80s-90s with sedans. Two slightly different flavors of essentially the same product....two middle filler brands between Chevy and Cadillac.1 point

Exactly. Why should I help GM ruin what I like about them... by buying something from them? I feel like I've been duped, and I do not like that atall. They think they have us by the balls. Ram makes a sweet truck. Jeep makes a great CUV/SUV. Screw GM with their electric/autonomous BS.1 point
