Some things are worth saving even if it costs more than a new one. I have two Kirby vacuum cleaners from the 1970s (bought one, one was given to me later) that I rather repair and keep using instead of buying new. I don't care that I can get a new vacuum from target for $75 and it will cost me $75 dollars to service the Kirby. The Kirby will outlive me if I keep up on parts and such for it. Both of them pre-date me in the first place. They'll suck the nails out of the floorboards if you let them... no modern household vacuum can do that. On my A/C, I did replace my window units with central air and got a new furnace out of it, but my window units weren't that great at keeping the house comfortable and I had to run 3 of them at the same time just to make it tolerable. Central is so much better than window units.4 points

it came out on a day I was sick and I never circled back around to put it up. But you've essentially written the whole thing. The lower trims are now Voyager instead of Pacifica. One wonders... with the small number of sales in the minivan segment, how do they keep the cars alive. When, as in Ford's case, they were selling 250,000 Fusions a year and couldn't keep it going. That's almost as much as the whole minivan segment alone.2 points

Should I downvote you here? Because quite honestly...with your downvotes...you are really acting like a child!!! I had high respect for you...but now.... With your smug and ignorant post that your sense of smell is poor. You happen to not be interested in new car smell. I am... Im not allowed? You too... You think rust is not a problem in Montreal for cars? You think that California cars are rotted by rust on the same level as Quebec cars? Montreal being the warmest and least cold and inclement weather areas of Quebec... Shyte dude!!! Downvote me all night long... Its you that looks the part of an ignorant soul. Not me. And here you are....buying a car from California... Why didnt you buy it from Vermont? OK...Massachusetts... What about Illinois? Michigan? North or South Dakota? Yeah...you got it in sunny California... Get the phoque out, dude!!!1 point

There is this thing called SHIPPING. It costs $400~600 to ship a car to Northern CA from Southern CA, AZ or NV. About $800~1000 to ship it from the mid-west including Texas. About $1300 from the east coast including Florida. The last two cars I bought, I bought online sight unseen and have them shipped. With the exhorbitant rent and labor costs, buying from local dealers adds about $3000~6000 to the price of a $40K used car. So I buy out of state and pay a few hundred bucks to get it shipped in. If you are so fussy about salt and snow you can get yours remotely too.1 point

I got the 2014 CTS VSport Premium from Texas with 26K miles and not a scratch in 2017 for $33K ($40K off the $73K as new price tag). That's 55% off. You cannot convince me that buying new and driving that first 26K miles at a cost of $40K is a good deal compared to driving the next 70K miles for $18~20K. It has 69K miles on it now and I'll probably keep it for another year to year and a half.1 point

The beautiful thing about the market place is that we do not have to rely on oldhurst442 for a healthy supply of used cars. I have never, ever, had a significant issue with my used cars. I buy at 3~4 sell at 6~7. Usually, they never see the inside of a workshop and if they did it is usually under warranty anyway. I don't even buy particularly "reliable" makes and models (apart from the two Acuras). The last 6 were 2017 Acura MDX, 2014 CTS VSport, 2011 Jaguar XF 5.0 Supercharged, 2008 Acura TL, 2005 M-B C55 AMG and 2000 Audi S4.1 point

Go buy a new car and lose lots of money then. It's a free country -- even Canada is in this regard. We need people like you to buy new so we have used cars to benefit from. I'll never buy new. If I have a billion dollars, that 2014 Boeing 787-9 with 20,000 flight hours will look pretty good especially if it has GEnx engines that was just overhauled.1 point

Just saw a baby boomer couple driving the last year SS sedan. Very lovely, shame they stopped making such an awesome car.1 point

@oldshurst442 I hope you're not a fan of Montrealer Gino Vannelli. Haha ... as '80s as they came! Actually, he's a McGill grad, as is William Shatner. That's impressive. I found it! Summer of '96 and putting around in a rented Peugeot econobox in Portugal's Algarve ... (I believe it's Alex Natale and not Bob Marley)1 point

It's aged pretty well. I wish they could do the 9-5 also. That was a handsome and unique looking sedan. No, I don't think they'll do wheel hub motors. It's probably just an electric setup to the front wheels and batteries in the trunk/fuel tank area.1 point

They still to cheap leases and cash on the hood. $1,250 cash back right now on the RAV-4 and that is a brand new model. $2,000 back on Camry. $3,000 on Tundra, $3,000 on Highlander. Over at Honda it's almost all cheap leasing or low interest financing. $169 a month for a Civic sedan. $209 for a Civic Si coupe or sedan. $249 with $1,500 down on an Accord. etc. But go to Costco, sign up for an executive membership, and get $500 off almost any car from any brand and a below MSRP price. Kia and Hyundai don't really do "deals" but they'll lease cheap and they give a lot for a trade. So like I said.. they all do it. They just take different routes to get there. Even MB is offering 2.9% interest right now across the entire lineup.1 point

We have a high-end Lennox system, purchased through Costco. With the executive membership, I got 3% back on the already discounted price.1 point

Yep. My A/C has a dehumidify function and my furnace has a humidify function. I do have to manually enable/disable them in the fall/spring when we switch over, but that's just done on the thermostat.1 point

A Bullet Piercing Valve costs less than $10; just make sure it's attached to the low (cold) pressure side. Heat pumps don't work well in areas that receive measurable snow accumulation.1 point

Agreed, BMW drivers are assholes but at least for the most part they drive fast to keep going. Prius drivers get on the freeway, move to the far left and go 20 under the speed limit and then do stupid shit while on the freeway and just about hit everyone. Worst drivers ever!1 point

Benz buyers want 'The best or nothing', so they are waiting on the next 'best' to be available.1 point

We (and by that I mean @smk4565) don't allow for that explanation when its Cadillac or Lincoln, so we shouldn't for Benz either.1 point

All this crap made in China. Home appliances were dear when they first came on the scene, and their construction, in turn, served the public well. Brand loyalty was instilled, which ensured a company's longevity. Now everything's a commodity and it is a sad state.1 point

We took ours from Michigan to Florida and back including driving through the mountains on the back roads from Atlanta to Pigeon Forge and I bet it averaged 26 - 26.5 mpg for the round trip. The stop/start did quit working coming down one of those mountains, though. They replaced the battery and reflashed it and it has been good since. The dealership told me I needed to drive it more. I told the guy, more than the 17,500 miles I put on it in the first 12 months of ownership? ? On a side note, don't put bad windshield washer solvent in these. Cost me $320 for a new pump, filter and blowing out the lines. Could have done it myself for $40 worth of parts but just didn't feel like messing around with it. Anyway, they said use the blue stuff only.1 point
