  1. Your case is 1 in 50. Feel free to reference the post I made last week about idiots who lift their trucks, bling it out, and put all sorts of useless accessories on it. Also, whether you buy new or used isn’t the point. It’s the out of date and out with the times dealerships who think it is perfectly fine to milk another $10K for something they, themselves, didn’t even make. Imagine being able to get that vehicle directly from the maker and cutting out the dealership con game.

  3. It is not gouging if there will be a person willing to pay that kind of money for this car. It is called demand and supply. I would say gouging is when people sell necessary for livelihood items during shortage, like people were selling masks and hand sanitizer 10-20 times the real price during the beginning of pandemic. Mach 1 is basically a luxury item, not something someone needs to survive.

  7. We were talking about construction equipment. But modern factory-spec diesels are amazingly quiet; you almost can’t tell the GM 3.0L TD is one standing next to it. Don’t worry; we’ve seen the outfits producing IC digital tracks for BE cars so they sound powerful; as many ‘loud diesels’ as there are now; some day there may be as many loud electrics. ?

  8. • Portable ‘recharger’ services don’t always show up and can’t possibly hit all sites in 1 area first thing. A down machine is money lost. I guess these are the same billed service companies that are going to traverse the inner urban areas where folk park on the street, charging their cars every morning? ? • David, you’re the only person I’ve ever heard with apparently super-sensitive hearing, that’s worried about a diesel engine’s noise. They’re not at all unpleasant in volume. • I see your response as someone who believes that electricity is a magical cure-all that has no downsides and can & will service everyone seamlessly, and wxplains away every contrary scenario with zero concerns for the associated costs. Good luck with that utopian fantasy future! ?

  10. Totally agree here and this is what corrupt dealerships fear is that the EV change over will cut them out as People will pay what they perceive as a fair price. Saturn was rated as one of the highest buying experiences due to the set prices, no gouging and the ability to come in and buy what you want at the marked price. Dealerships got a fair % as did GM and everyone felt good about it. Tesla has done so well even with crappy fit n finish due to the amount of people not wanting to play the traditional dicker game or price gouging of a dealership. Look at the auto, build it the way they want and see what the price is and move forward to buy no matter what. Mach 1 is a cool car, no doubt about it. Ford has it marketed as such at a MSRP price. They need to control the dealers by ensuring a fair profit for prepping and selling the auto and stop the gouging. As I stated, if they want the auto on the dealership floor to bring people in, then put a Not For Sale sign on it over a crazy price of gouging the market. You have hit the nail on the head Surreal, thank you.

  12. Nice review and the 3rd row issue perfectly illustrates why CUVs with sloping rooflines will almost always have jack squat for head room. It also clearly doesn't help when the legroom is horrible but that is something that is all too common with just about any CUV/SUV that isn't a full size. My Flex has a decent 3rd row and certainly more headroom than the Lexus but I have only had short teenagers back there (with no complaints mind you) so I'm sure the leg room would not be all that great for the long legged types. There is just only so much room you can get out of smaller size vehicles. Lexus was better off leaving off the 3rd row out of the RX and just selling it on the additional cargo room the longer version gets you.

  13. The solution is very clear. If I were on the market for Mach 1 I would just need to look a little farther than my local dealer and there you go - Mach 1 BELOW MSRP only 10 miles from were I live. This dealer would get my business. 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 in Red Bank, NJ | New York City Ford Mustang | George Wall Ford Lincoln

  14. I dunno; Mach 1 was already $60K. That's unquestionably in the 'disposable income' range. I doubt the bottom line (# of customers) would change much if it were $70K from the factory. And if 'market adjustments' didn't work, dealers would discontinue the practice. IOW; buyer is still paying $70K if it's all factory or factory/dealer; they can always walk away. Most folk don't like to pay anymore than they have to, but it's inarguable that there is that pool who'll pay $60K for a $27K Mustang, or $100K for a $40K F-150. To some, its even bragging rights. ?

  16. Can't get enough of this sh!t. Music used to have much more passion that went into it. The lead singer here is really into it and can hold some of those difficult notes. Some say this is the quintessential disco song. I've read that some musical experts think that "More, More, More" is. Either way, those that approximate the Top 10 of this genre make for one incredible anthology.

  17. Despite being one of the best sellers in the luxury crossover class, the Lexus RX lacked something many competitors offered; a third-row option. Lexus rectified this a couple of years ago by stretching the RX's body and adding a third-row to create the RX L. I spent some time in the RX 350L Luxury back in the fall to find out if Lexus has another winner or if this a half-baked attempt. You can tell the difference between the standard RX to the longer L by looking for a floating roofline treatment. This is due to Lexus blacking part of the c-pillar to help disguise the added bulk. It doesn't fully work as looks somewhat half-baked. At least Lexus was more successful upfront where non F-Sport models get a new mesh insert to replace the horizontal slats, along with a revised bumper. When equipped with the Luxury Package, the RX is a plush and pleasant place to spend time. The leather upholstery feels nice to the touch and the use of contrasting colors (cream and brown in my tester) help make it feel special. Lexus has finally added a touchscreen for the RX's infotainment and it makes a huge difference. Gone are the litany of issues I have noted in previous models such as, Being precise with your finger movements when selecting an item Becoming very distracting to use when on the move Not the most intuitive controller Now using Lexus Enform or Apple CarPlay/Android Auto is not an exercise in frustration, but one of ease. My only complaint is that I wished Lexus moved the screen slightly more forwards. It is quite a reach to use the touchscreen. Those sitting in the second row will not have much to complain about as head and legroom are plentiful for most passengers. The same cannot be said for the third-row. Getting back here is difficult as there is not enough a gap when the second-row seat is moved forward. Once back here, space is non-existent with your head touching the headliner and legroom from nothing to something bearable depending on where the second-row is set. The one upside to the longer RX is cargo space. With the third-row seat folded, you get about seven extra cubic feet of space compared to standard RX. Power comes from a 3.5L V6 used in several Lexus and Toyota vehicles. For the RX 350L, it produces 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. My tester came with all-wheel drive, but front-wheel drive is standard. Performance is adequate as you'll be able to keep up with traffic or make a pass with no issue. Those wanting a bit more performance should look at something like the upcoming Acura MDX or Volvo XC90. Comfort is still a key hallmark to the RX. Bumps and potholes become mere ripples when driven over. There is also a noticeable lack of road and wind coming inside. The RX 350L feels like a stop-gap solution until Lexus finishes up their upcoming three-row crossover due out within the next couple of years. The third-row isn't all useful for carrying passengers and is best to fold down to expand cargo space. If you need a third-row, there are much better options such as the Volvo XC90. But if you really want an RX, stick with the standard two-row version and pocket the cash you saved for something nice. 21. different gear ratios for low speed off-roading? Depends on the reality context, diesels can be quite loud and unpleasant if one is a pedestrian and has to hear them passing on streets. In the past I've found myself walking in cities and heard diesels. And certainly driving w/ the windows down and getting passed by some yahoo in a diesel monster truck or a semi accelerating the noise is quite unpleasant. Noise pollution...

  22. Trucks, at least, can make you money back (like in my case). I'm among those who do not like paying more than I have to. I've only owned 1 new vehicle out of 22 because buying new is a nonsensical financial move... but yes; #23 will be brand new and yes; it's going to be mad expensive. I could get something off-lease that would do the job, but sometimes you treat yourself But I'm also in the camp of 'if 2 parties agree on the price, that's what the price then is'. I abhor folk who say 'I don't like your price because you only paid X for it' - that's emphatically irrelevant. I had a customer once ask me if I offered a cash discount. I said 'yes; 10% on labor'. They returned 'You aren't in the 10% tax bracket!' Me: 'What does that have to do with anything?' He’s been my customer probably 10 years now. Worked on his house, his business and his trucks.

  23. True but the issue is not whether to check another dealer but the fact that the milking process exists there in the first place. That is missing my point entirely and you are moving the bar a bit. The MSRP is just that and the dealerships are just being greedy A-holes, disposable income or not. It is funny how you consider it to be “disposable” income at $60K yet two thirds of your favorite mode of transportation, full size pick ups, cross that threshold by leaps an bounds. Guess “disposable” is a subjective term.

  25. You know good and well that is not even close to the same thing and I think Dave covered nicely as to why that is the case. Ford bakes in a mark up already as will Rivian. The problem, and CLEAR difference here, is there greedy ass Ford dealership milking an already marked up MSRP by an additional 15%. If you don’t see the problem, as well as the difference, there then I don’t know what else can be said at this point. When all you seem to want to find is bad stuff, then that is all you will get. Except his statement is becoming more true by the year.

  30. The very tangible problem is that most HE works a job longer than one day... and usually there's no grid-supplied power. I don't recall us ever having an electricity hookup on all the jobs we worked during those 7 years. So while perhaps a BE Case backhoe can operate for 8 hrs, but then you'd have to load it up and truck it away at the end of every day, so you can charge it overnight 'back at the shop', then truck it back to the job again in the morning. Over & over & over & over again. This requires you to drive a HD truck hauling a trailer & the Case, rather than a regular truck everyday, burning far MORE fuel than just leaving a TD machine on the job site. Whoops.

  31. We will See, here is the actual press release from CASE. The CASE 580 EV Delivers Ultimate Power and Sustainability Zero Emissions: Lower your carbon footprint and achieve incentives/greater consideration for new projects with electrified additions to your fleet. All the Performance: The battery separately powers the drivetrain and hydraulic motors, resulting in hydraulic breakout forces equal to diesel-powered machines and improved performance during simultaneous loader and drivetrain operation. Long-Lasting Power: The machine's lithium-ion battery provides enough power for the typical 8-hour work day. Lower Operating Costs: Save as much as 90 percent in annual vehicle, fuel and maintenance costs. Classic CASE Performance: The 580 EV retains the precision and efficiency of diesel-powered CASE backhoes with features such as ProControl, which allows for extremely precise boom movement and placement, as well as Comfort Steer, which significantly improves steering while working in tight quarters or in truck loading operations. CASE 580 EV - The Industry's First Fully Electric Backhoe Loader | CASE Construction Equipment (casece.com) I honestly cannot see how anyone would want the noise of a diesel backhoe in their neighborhood. Having Silence is way better even if the cost of maintenance is not what they say it is and case clearly says the 90% saving is maintenance, Fuel and annual vehicle costs. Yes we still do not know what the cost is.

  32. "They said without evidence". ? I worked in heavy equipment for 7 years (Ford/New Holland, Hitachi, Komatsu, Catepillar, Case); the engines are like 5% of the maintenance required- there's dozens of other areas that require attention, but the engines aren't it; HE diesels run forever. Substituting a BE motor for a HE diesel isn't going to save you 10% in maintenance. There's a very tangible reason these claims are pushed so hard; not that they're backed by empirical real-world data, but that it's a distraction to the Uber-high sticker prices these vehicles almost always are.

  35. You would think if they want to keep it on the floor as an attractor for people to come in and look at and then possibly buy something else, then just put a sign on it that says NOT FOR SALE. Then later once the excitement has worn off, sell it for MSRP if possible. Doing things like this would be a I WILL NOT BUY FROM YOU thing. This is the kind of crap that makes me walk away from a dealership due to stupidity like this. IDIOTS! ?

Eagle's fans. Raider's fans. Some say Cowboy's fans. But that is where the hatred ends. In hockey though...EVERYBODY wants to bash in EVERYBODY's face in. Yeah...Hockey is awesome! You could feel the love in the air. Beautiful. Just beautiful. Bora Bora and the big mountain in the background and it looks like King Kong could reside there. I have a hard time that anyone thinks this is OK to do to our planet as long as private companies make a profit at the ecologies expense. When do we wake up to realize that if we want ourselves as well as our kids and grandkids and future generations after that to live in a clean healthy planet, we have to stop destroying it. That sometimes means making the hard decisions about ease of use, cleaning up and recycling as well as looking at all green energy sources and preparing for both extreme cold and heat to insure humanity can stay alive and be warm. 43. what parts didn't you understand? my alternate source of what describes socialism instead of a straight definition? the commerce clause has been used to cover anything the law makers wanted to use it on, even gardens for self(family) consumption. find the Wickard v Filburn decision. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wickard_v._Filburn "An Ohio farmer, Roscoe Filburn, was growing wheat to feed animals on his own farm. The US government had established limits on wheat production, based on the acreage owned by a farmer, to stabilize wheat prices and supplies. Filburn grew more than was permitted and so was ordered to pay a penalty. In response, he said that because his wheat was not sold, it could not be regulated as commerce, let alone "interstate" commerce (described in the Constitution as "Commerce... among the several states"). The Supreme Court disagreed:" so, of course the law/logic is covered, but this also supports the case that the commerce clause makes the federal gov all powerful. this is an authoritarian view and it requires authoritarian power to enforce socialism.. be it regulated or actually planned. if the farmer cannot grow food for his family/livestock w/o penalty, then the government has control over your life/property. he is not free to be productive outside of coercion. if the federal gov is all powerful(commerce clause), that goes against the 10th amendment. i guess i'm not arguing that you are wrong, but i'm arguing that the supposed limits to how our economy works, legally, is soooooo flawed, it can't be called capitalism. I know most people call it mixed, but really only because we have the illusion of property rights...at least when it's not the wealthy/influential against the gov. so because we don't have enshrined property rights in 99.999999% of the cases, we actually have socialism.... at least a weak form of it, just stop calling it mixed. lol
