And a Corvette isn’t an AWD 4-dr SUV, so they aren’t part of the same family either, right? By all means build a hyper-powerful ‘sporty SUV’…. Just. Don’t. Put. Corvette. In. The. Name.3 points

Anybody know why Porsche didn’t name the Cayenne the -say- ‘911-X’ ??3 points

Not dreaming of an ICE replacement for my SS. I want a BEV Performance SUV Replacement by any of these labels: Cadillac, Chevrolet, Corvette, GMC, Buick. I see no reason to not take the 1,000hp tri-motor configuration from the Hummer and build a performance focused Ultium BEV AWD SUV. I can totally see a Corvette Performance SUV BEV. Is it also a "F'em!" when they live in a high rise or park on the street? Are they supposed to dangle extension cords out their 5th floor windows??2 points

I would question that considering how few CUVs are on used sites for sale compared to the cars. ISEECARS and AUTOTRADER have thousands of the cars for sale compared to SUV/CUVs for sale on Porsche All of which can be changed by just one auto in a flash. Ford changing their image / legacy / enthusiasts by the Cobra and Le Mans and now the Mach-e. Who knows what can happen with a RWD/AWD Vette BEV or SUV BEV.2 points
-
I've thought they needed a Porsche Cayenne or Macan competitor for years...an ICE Corvette branded CUV would have been great 10 years ago...problem is, GM never developed a platform for a performance CUV.2 points
-
While I agree with the rest (and that is what I getting at), just a hard no on doing that to the Vette name.2 points
-
Problem is, unless they make a performance version of the Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon or Escalade, it isn't happening...the rest of the GM ICE CUV lineup is generic FWD/AWD transverse engine appliances, not the ideal platform for a performance vehicle. GM doesn't have a proper RWD/AWD unibody SUV/CUV platform. I could see maybe performance versions of their EV CUVs in the future, though...2 points

Maybach couldn't even keep itself open as its own brand... I'm surprised that trucking company hasn't gotten a tap on the shoulder from Mercedes-Benz yet. Even funnier.... I browsed their website and they use almost exclusively Volvo trucks and not Freightliners... Different markets. S-Class Maybach is all about soft, posh, silent. Sure they have good horsepower... but that isn't the point... the point is the built in champagne cooler in the back. V-Series/Blackwing are performance vehicles. Both have their place. I would love a CT6-V Blackwing, but I certainly wouldn't refuse an S-Class Maybach either. I LOVE the two-tone they can come in.2 points

How is it there’s suddenly confusion on terminology? ’Mustang’ is a Ford, ‘Mustang GT’ is a Ford, ‘Mustang Mach-E’ is a Ford, Mustang Mach 1’ is a Ford, ‘Mustang GT500’ is a Ford. Ford is the brand, not ‘Mustang’. Other that to make money (meanwhile devaluing the model cache’), there’s no reason to build a ‘Corvette suv’. Porsche doesn’t build their SUVs because they’re performance SUVs, they build them to keep the factories running/the lights on.2 points

'SUV' isn't a model; 'Corvette' is. And while you specified 'Corvette SUV', it seemed to be more about the vehicle classification rather than the model name associated with it. While I'd like to see some sporting SUV trims from Chevy, a 'Corvette SUV' is not among my wishes. Not to mention, I believe the vast majority of Cayennes are driven in exactly the same manner as Tahoes are. Unless there's competition events featuring Cayennes I should be aware of?2 points

They never did put Chevrolet badges on the car. Not in 1953. Not in 2021. For the C1 Corvette, "Chevrolet" was on the emblem. But the Corvette emblem ALWAYS had a Chevrolet Bow Tie in it. Always on the red flag. Sometimes partially covered. Sometimes full. In 1953 all the way to 2021. There is a Fleur de Lys on the emblem. I wanna know why. Do you have an answer @balthazar?2 points

President Biden was joined by the auto industry Executives of FORD, GM and Stellantis in the executive order targeting 50% of new auto sales by 2030. While largely symbolic, this nonbinding order sets federal expectations for automakers to rapidly transition from ICE to BEV cars and trucks. Transportation is the largest share of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. While not in attendance, BMW, HONDA, VOLKSWAGEN and VOLVO have all signed off on this executive order backing to target 50% of their new auto sales to be BEV by 2030 mirroring these companies pledges to hit this as they sided with California and their CARB mandates a few years back. UAW is backing Ford and GM push to go all electric by 2035. This on top of the following statements from auto industry executives. “It has been said that this generation is the first to feel the impact of climate change, and the last that can do something about it. I am proud that Ford is leading the electric revolution and standing for stronger standards that protect people and the environment as we progress towards a zero-emissions transportation future. Ford has always been a leader in sustainability and our employees continue their tremendous efforts to leave our children and our grandchildren with a cleaner planet.” - Executive Chair Bill Ford “Ford is on an ambitious trajectory to lead the electrification revolution -- from being the only full-line American automaker to side with California in favor of stricter greenhouse gas emissions, to electrifying our most iconic and popular vehicles, like the F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E and E-Transit. Customer demand has exceeded our expectations. So, we expect to be well positioned to have fully electric vehicles account for 40 to 50% of our U.S. sales by 2030. We’re counting on strong cooperation among the Biden Administration, Congress and state and local governments, and are doing our part by developing high-quality, zero-emission vehicles that customers want.” - CEO Jim Farley Mary Barra(She/Her) • • FollowingChair and Chief Executive Officer at General Motors2w • 2 weeks ago Yesterday, we met with the Biden administration and leaders across the industry to announce our shared aspiration to bring the nation closer to a more sustainable future by achieving 40-50% annual U.S. sales of electric vehicles by 2030. I want to thank the administration for its leadership and support for the necessary policies that will accelerate #EV adoption, strengthen U.S. manufacturing, and provide good jobs for people and communities. This is a critical moment in time, as we work together to advance the industry and achieve our shared goal for a better planet for generations to come. https://lnkd.in/ec4aKSY3 As such, the support and focus from the auto industry will drive new technology and new choices in personal mobility. I would say that getting younger buyers isn't as important to getting buyers with money, or appealing to those with money. Since that is where you can get profit and sell higher end models and tack on lots of options. C8 a supercar? I don't think so, maybe if the ZO6/ZR1 really dial up the performance. Part of being a supercar is also rarity and collectibility, although perhaps that is now the hyper car market and you can call a top end Corvette, a 911, AMG GT, etc super cars. And this list of Nurburgring lap times would suggest the 911 and AMG GT are super cars: You have the 488 Pista there at 7 minutes from 2 years ago, if the Corvette can crack the 7 minute mark then I'd say it is in supercar territory.1 point
-
Whew, that’s certainly a line from way back! ’Younger buyer = great necessity’ is a fallacy. ABA follows the general population trends; Lamborghini ABA is about 48 yrs. ‘They’ were saying Cadillac needed younger buyers or it would be soon gone…. in 1975. Corvette C8 made an earth-shattering leap onto supercar relevancy (if there were actually a methodology of charting such); your wish has been granted.1 point
-
They have to do something to make Corvette relevant and appealing to younger buyers. No future in catering to boomers. The C8 seems like a step in the right direction.1 point
-
Or Audi. Tesla’s quality is horrible and their CUVs are shit. I’m sure there will be more performance BEV SUVs on the market in the future.1 point

A Corvette branded performance CUV would likely get way more sales and attention than a Chevy <something else> branded performance CUV. The Corvette name has a performance cache that Chevrolet by itself doesn’t have. A Cadillac V series performance CUV could do well also.1 point

People that live in high rises often use public transit and don’t have cars. Parking on the street would suck. But for those use cases, that’s why the public charging infrastructure has to grow.1 point

Yeah, I can see people trying to pump gas into an EV or lots of them getting run till the battery is flat. But if they are too ignorant to learn the differences in their appliance, f’em.1 point

But that's completely irrelevant to the image & legacy of the Mustang. - - - - - I don't know- we need long-term data to analyze. I stand firm on my rock; do not sully the names of iconic models with family-hauler versions. Just don't.1 point
-
But would those Mach-E sales be any different if it were called something else?1 point
-
No, But it very well could be adding to their household auto's they drive. Mustang sales are stagnant and Mach-e are surpassing them and 70% are conquest sales from Tesla, Nissan, etc.1 point
-
100%. It would be too late to do so now but if they developed an EV version, I'd be all for it. Heck, even 5 years ago would have been plenty fine. A Mustang wasn't a "AWD 4-dr SUV" either, until they made one. Why, would it make you not buy one? ?1 point
-
Black and gray...so boring and mainstream. They need colors to spice things up...otherwise, it's too generic. The Escalade is pretty limited in it's color choices also, unfortunately..a light and a darker tan for the seats and armrests it looks like.1 point
-
If all things are roughly equal--ICE appliances replaced by BEV appliances at the same price point, size and content level, I think they will sell. I don't think the average consumer resource unit knows or cares what propulsion system powers their appliance, they only are looking at price point, efficiency, and features.1 point

GM makes ZERO RWD / AWD Pure Sports SUV's/CUV's. I would love it being a Cadillac, Chevrolet, Corvette, GMC or Buick Performance Pure AWD/RWD SUV/CUV to replace my Chevrolet Trailblazer AWD SS.1 point

Given unlimited money, I would take a V series Cadilalc over a Maybach. But that's just my personal choice.1 point

General Motors has zero RWD-based SUV's that compete with high end sporty SUVs. In fact, GM has zero sporty SUVs across all 17 brands. Correct, and Chevy had no Corvette until they made the Corvette. That's exactly how things work.1 point
-
I still see zero issues with a Corvette-branded SUV sitting along side a Corvette. Make it Cayenne-sized and competitive and it would sell like hot cakes.1 point

I was sitting at my local Starbucks and this song piped in. It was sort of slow in there and, as soon as it came on, a couple of the younger employees started to bump and grind with each other almost reflexively. And I was thinking how this song preceded their births by a decade or two! Either way, it's a great and inimitable song ... and these kids working at Starbucks have good taste!1 point

300 miles of battery electric range was the fold standard set by Tesla and now with Ford Mach-e having met that challenge, many have wondered what was next. In a review video on Munro Live with Mach-e Chief engineer Donna Dickson, we know now that the Mach-e will get yearly updates on range and technology as well as quarterly over the air updates on the software. Ford is very clear that they are not going to sit back and wait to see how things go, continuously providing updates quarterly and each model year is the Ford goal for all EVs moving forward. Details on this really come to light at the 26 min mark. Munro had a few compliments one being the front motor which is covered in a more recent video he finds to be extremely well engineered especially when compared to Tesla Y. Critisms abound on the video but clearly Ford is taking his tear down reviews very seriously and that is proven as Donna confirms many of the enhancements / better ways to engineer coming forward in future versions. An example of this is the first year Mach-e have dual cooling tanks but will move to a better single tank design. Munro Live - YouTube As has been pointed out by various members to Cheers and Gears, weight is the ultimate demon and Munro points out many ways to improve the weight saving opportunities since the Mach-e is 200 lbs heavier than a comparable Tesla Model Y which weights in at 4,416 lbs. Donna Dickson has made it clear in the video that they have an action plan especially on the range improvements for 22, 23 & 24 model years that will see range up, weight down. Weight and battery efficiency is two key areas that will be improved yearly as Ford moves forward not only with the Mach-e but all their BEVs. An interesting observation is that Ford thought it would be best to keep some familiar items in the Mach-e. One such example is the traditional parking pawl with cable system. Ford has moved away to electronic parking brake buttons and as such, this will go away in the next model year saving costs and weight. An interesting play was Munro fainting in his earlier initial video of the Mach-e cooling system review. Per Donna Dickson, the Mach-e chief engineer, the crazy amount of hoses under the hood is due to Ford matching up new components with older existing components used from other auto's. Dickson has committed that many modular systems are taken from other Hybrids such as the HVAC system so this is not ideal, but they are looking at moving forward with a consistent updated modular system that will improve efficiencies while reducing hoses and cables as they standardize modules for the future BEV roadmap. An example is that Ford for the first year Mach-e has dual cooling pumps to each motor and with the data they have coming in from customer real world use is showing that this over built system for cooling is not needed and they can change to a single beefy cooling pump per motor which will also reduce weight. Interesting is as Donna states Ford has relied on things they knew going into this first BEV for Ford and an example of this is the heavy rubber re-enforced hoses throughout the Mach-e. This you find on all Ford auto's and yet new technology and proven use by Tesla is high strength plastic lines that are thinner, much lighter and will be changed over for the next model year such as the long cooling line from the front of the Mach-e to the rear motor. She also points out that with the much lower temps and pressures you can use smaller diameter lines for the electric motors on cooling over ICE use. Donna Dickson Mach-e chief engineer has taken a different approach to the Munro Tear down review videos. Tesla felt attacked and attacked back at Munro when he tore the Tesla auto's down and applied praise and extreme criticism to Tesla Auto's. Ford is taking the opposite approach with this visit to Munro in taking his review observations very seriously on improving Ford BEV products. No one @ GM is discussing making 'Corvette' a brand. You'r post is a ridiculous snipe hunt.1 point
-
Because Corvette is not a brand. If they are going to make a Corvette brand, then it should have a stand alone dealership like Cadillac, and no longer be at Chevrolet dealers. If they want to make Corvette the 5th GM brand, and supply it with a full line, 2 coupes, a sedan, 2 SUVs, and perhaps more like Porsche has, then that is another story. Also would be a dumb move to dump billions into making a new brand, rather than giving Cadillac these performance models, but GM likes to do dumb things.1 point

Cadillac has chosen to let Social Media and their blogs on their web site push their story for the LYRIQ BEV. Latest Blog was about the interior. Cadillac Creator Series: Learn about the LYRIQ Electric SUV Over all impressive for a luxury ride, but I do have to wonder as I am seeing the same grey tone as they have on the launch edition 1 of the GMC Hummer twins. GM needs more than Black and Grey interiors to win in the luxury space.1 point
