  1. You would have to primary everyone out first. Most primary challengers this year are losing to incumbents. Maybe in 2016...... The political system in our country is much more badly broken than GM. Of all the major things in our country, GM is one of the most effective and sanely run. I would say that Ford has been better run in the last 8 years than GM. Currently, what you said may well be true.
  2. And the only reason that is true is because the median price of new cars is north of $30K. If the median price were $20K, fewer people would be squeezed in their wallets and resort to the used car market.
  3. The recall Annus Horribilis continues. I hope that this will make next year a lot less recall heavy than right now.
  4. Any reason why there is a Patriot AND a Compass? Maybe ditching one for the other might address the confusion issues. Also, $27K for that?! Pass.
  5. The car itself needs to be saved AND be put into service as a direct competitor to the 300/Charger twins. (I know that the Chevy SS exists, but that is a 300 SRT8 competitor only.) An upmarket version should be available as an Equus, if not 7/S-Class/LS, fighter for Cadillac. Other than sites like this one and car magazines, I have never heard of a Commodore. The name can retire, but the car must be saved.
  6. I still am not sure why Cadillac is trying to break into a market essentially sealed shut by the Germans. This is not the USA of 1971, where competition was actually welcomed. Europeans are extremely brand loyal and nationalistic in their car purchases. Moreover, the eurozone is an economic shambles. Cadillac should greatly focus on the USA and east Asia (i.e. China) instead of the failing Old Continent.

  8. I like the idea that this Nissan provided. Now all NYC needs is some competition to lower prices and ultimately replace all of those old and obsolete Crown Victorias that now populate the NYC taxi fleet. Is it just me, or are those wheels/tires look way too small for that vehicle?
  9. I have never figured out why anyone would buy a Fiat 500 here in the first place. I suppose you could say that about the USA lineup in Europe. GM has already slashed its car brand name lineup some years back, and FIAT has more than GM ever had right now. Then again, I do not think that Sergio has fully figured out what to do with each and every brand at all. Once he does, then FCA will become a lot more cohesive and more profitable in a few years. But Sergio needs to figure this out sooner rather than later. AFAICT, the only melding of FIAT into anything Chrysler is a FIAT 500 in the USA and the Dodge Dart. Who buys either of those?
  10. As for the victims of the ignition switch recall, check this out: http://www.thedetroitbureau.com/2014/06/gm-preparing-to-settle-with-ignition-switch-victims/
  11. Odd day for a due date, given that July 4th is a national holiday and NOBODY will be there to collect the fine. Better push it back to Thursday July 3rd.
  12. Too bad I had to replace the 99 Park Avenue Ultra for the 08 Lucerne. I really like the Lucerne, admittedly more than the PA. Then again, I will probably hang onto the Lucerne for at least 5-7 years. If today's new cars were priced as if it was 1980, then the average age of cars would drop like a stone. Reliability and cheaper/easier to fix are the best reasons to hang onto older models.
  13. Yes, the Genesis is a BIG CAR. The Equus is meant to take on the S-Class (albeit not that well). Then again, the Genesis does compare very favorably to the large FWD luxury sedans these days. One Q: are the Genesis sedan and the 300/Charger twins competitors, or are the twins in a totally different market?
  14. Firing 15 and disciplining 5 more is a great start. Now if only Delphi were to pay for this entire recall AND pay into the victims' compensation fund too. It is good that the ghosts of Old GM are finally being purged from the New GM for good. Rising sales are nice too.
  15. And yet the Lancer Evolution is getting canceled. Oh well, Mitsubishi forgot to get really big in the 1980s and 90s. Then Hyundai/Kia got their act together, hence the lowish overall sales numbers for this brand.
  16. About 8000 Mitsubishis were sold in March 2014. Chevrolet sold that many Corvettes in all of 2014, selling about 3400 of them in March. My question is why does Mitsubishi think it is competitive in the USA now. Time to abandon these shores for greener pastures.
  17. Europe is still essentially in a near-depression since the continent NEVER purged its banking system of its problem children. (The USA, by contrast, allowed at least 400 small/medium banks to be shuttered and executives get prosecuted.) Europe's auto industry has the same problem in that there are far too many players and too few customers that will buy cars. If Europe were truly one marketplace with no interference from European auto unions (and especially governments!), the auto industry there would have gone through its consolidation & liquidation phase two or three years ago. Currently, there is simply no room for all the players in Europe right now. Sanity will return when auto companies radically shrink or go bust. VW will have to shrink; Peugeot will have to disappear; GM and Ford of Europe will have to cut back (same with FIAT); BMW and/or Daimler may not survive as is. Culling the herd is required of such a capital-intensive industry, and it cannot come soon enough for the Continent.
  18. ^QFT, hyperv6. I call it "The Revenge of Old GM Thinking". Compromising quality and safety just to save a few pennies here and there, especially on the smaller cars, is rather sad. The good news is that the New GM has apparently stopped this stupidity. What really saddens me is that Rick Waggonner could have purged this "make it cheaper, make it common" mentality 12-13 years ago and he did not.
  19. William, we are missing sales numbers for most of the brands and car companies. Please advise.
  20. It is a 2008 Lucerne CXL Special Edition with the 3800 Series III (no NorthStar engine). No sunroof either, but it is loaded though.
  21. Is a 2008 Buick Lucerne (CXL) more like a Park Avenue or a LeSabre from say, 2003-5?
  22. In the beginning was Olds, not Buick. Buick is only 6-7 years younger than Olds when Olds was still around. I personally doubt that Buick will be the ONLY nameplate left. The people that buy a GMC truck would generally never buy a Chevy truck, for example. Chevrolet is in most markets around the world; Buick is in the USA and China only.
