  1. Since 1987, Jeep has always been the most important part most profitable part of Chrysler. FTFY
  2. No, GM did the right thing here with ordering parts before the recall. This is a classic case of looks bad vs. is bad. Nobody can make replacement parts appear out of thin air in less than 24 hours.
  3. Isn't the primary reason GM pushes the LF3 over the LT1 in almost every car boil down to MPG and nothing else? I am sure that the ATS-V will probably get the LT1 instead, but MPG concerns (and newer regs) still exist.
  4. As long as the S-Class outsells all of their competitors AND the C-Class & E-Class sell well, there really is nothing to see here or worry about. Or you could just buy a competitor of theirs and be done with MB.
  5. SMK, I am a little disappointed too. Having said that, FWD crossovers are where the money is. Remember the RWD 1st-gen SRX? I do; those did not sell as well as Cadillac or GM hoped. So they followed the leader and the market: middle-aged women and the Lexus RX. Now the SRX is 2nd in sales. The new flagship Caddy and the CTS/ATS will take care of the RWD needs. Besides, the BMW X3/X5 sell poorly by comparison to the RX/SRX.
  6. Instead of GM supporting auto dealers (which have been a boat anchor for several years now), GM should compete directly with Tesla and build a $25K all-electric car. No Tesla is cheaper than $50K right now. Remember when about 1000 dealers from GM/Ford/Chrysler were shuttered as part of the bankruptcy? Now, Tesla wants to end this bad idea, but the states do not want to because so many state legislators either get paid by auto dealers or or own auto dealerships themselves. Protecting NADA and its members amounts to a stupid state-sanctioned cartel that must end. Too bad no one else is willing to do just that.
  7. Chrysler should just buy out Scat Enterprises, stat. This trademark suit seems rather weak.
  8. This assumes PSA/Peugeot-Citroen survives Europe's depression without disappearing into history. No worries here, especially since VW is not doing well here in the USA despite Audi doing fairly well these days.
  9. CT/XT does not really mean anything, does it? Names would still be best. People aspired to own a Fleetwood/Brougham at one time; why can this not happen again?
  10. I just looked at the 2015 GMC Canyon website. It still could use a diesel/turbodiesel to go along with the 2.5L I4 and the 3.6L V6 gas engines.
  11. What engine is the LTS going to have? Northstar has been dead for 5-6 years. GM has no v12 to speak of and a v6 would be a joke in this car. An 8AT is great news, even though I have no idea why 8-speeds are required now. If the LTS has a Corvette engine tuned for this application, that should be OK.
  12. GM needs to build a real Tesla competitor and defeat it. The ELR is not that car. It is an overpriced, upmarket Volt. I have no idea whether the ELR is a flop or not simply because we have no idea of GM's sales expectations for that car.
  13. Cmicasa, two things: 1. It is not necessarily true that American critics loathe themselves. It IS TRUE that a LOT of them LOVE the BMW 3 series, and much of their criticisms come from that. 2. The Mercedes S-class outsells all other cars in its class by a margin (in the USA, if not worldwide) of 3 to 1. Being #1 does have its priviledges.
  14. The new Escalade seems to be the only model GM has (Corvette aside) that can be priced north of $75K and no one laughs at the price. Even though I am not a truck fan generally, I do hope that the LTS is as feature packed as this 2015 Escalade and is priced accordingly.
  15. I agree with several of these suggested names. I have to wonder why Cadillac needs ELEVEN models, when six or seven will do just fine.
  16. I suspect that the only way trucks will ever reach 30 MPG with any consistency is that they abandon BOF and go straight to a unibody. No real truck person would want that though.
  17. Yes, it would be ideal for Cadillacs to actually have names again, but there is a reason for this. Names do not always translate globally. Think about it: China is a bigger luxury car market than the USA. A name for a model may not always work in that case. Moreover, NONE of the luxury marques use names on their models, and have not do so for a long time. Besides, the old names may not be the best way forward. What new names would you recommend instead?
  18. I do hope that the Volt actually does battle directly with the Tesla. A pure EV is better rather than that E-Rev powertrain they have. . . . . I think.
  19. I hope that GM has learned to avoid the mistakes of the last set of diesel cars from the late '70s. A lot of people became Toyota or VW buyers for that reason alone. Of course, there should be diesel options in as many types of vehicles as possible, if the demand is there.
  20. $20-22K to start? That is way too high. If GM were smart, these would start at about $15K so that no onw would think to buy a Silverado/Sierra instead. As for size, if mini-trucks are forthcoming very soon, then these prices might be justifiable.
  21. Or Nissan could really be smart and build them in the USA rather than Japan or Mexico. The Navara should be their all-out entry into the market. Decontenting feels like the customer is being cheated out of something.
  22. I hope so too. It is well past time GM shift straight into a pure EV to compete against Tesla rather than the Volt/ELR/Ampera set. An EV would be simpler to build and maintain than any hybrid.
  23. Sounds like what a lot of people have been waiting for. Who needs 50% market share when higher profits and better cash flow are the real name of the game? As for the car itself, this is really great. Now if only there were a 6cyl version to directly compete with the 300/Charger twins. . . . .
  24. I don't think they're interested in the 'only goes fast, handles like total ass' market. Handling is SO MUCH BETTER than it was back in the '60s and '70s. Handles like ass applies to a '69 Charger rather than this one.
  25. Everybody at GM is up, except for Chevy. Looking at the stats, I was wondering why Jaguar and VW were constantly advertising their cars. This answers that question. At least VW has Audi and Porsche to bouy profits even though VW sales are down by quite a percentage.
