Massachusetts proposes taxing by miles driven
G. David Felt replied to balthazar's topic in Industry News
I would like to see all Gas Tax go away and a move to Mileage tax. Cost per year is based on driving 15,000 miles Auto Class Tax 0 - 3000lbs - $.05 per mile = $750.00 3001 - 5000lbs - $.075 per mile = $1125.00 5001 - 7500lbs - $.10 per mile = $1500.00 7501 - 15,000lbs - $.125 per mile = $1875.00 Commercial Class tax 15,000 - 50,000lbs - $.15 per mile = $2250.00 50,001lbs - unlimited $.20 per mile = $3000 Flat rate for GOV vehicles $1000 per auto up to 15,000lbs $1500 per commercial class auto Remember that this could go up or down based on how much you drive. So people that only drive 3-5K miles a year would pay considerably less. I also feel the exemption that City, county and state vehicles get is wrong, they put wear and tear on the roads and should have to help pay for that. I feel many Fire and Police departments allow the employees to drive department auto's at tax payers expense calling it a perk of the job. This does not exist in many private industry jobs and should not exist in the gov sector. All people should get to the job before driving a company, gov supplied auto. I believe this would greatly reduce run away cost from departments that allow even a secretary to have a tax payer supplied auto and gas card. -
Audi News: Audi Decides Q3 Is Too Big, Teases Q1 Crossover

I am amazed by what you post some times. You must truly drink deeply 3 times a day from the BMW & MB coolaid bowl. I will say that Audi auto's do not look anything like VW here and they are very nice inside and out compared to the cheap stuff VW makes. I have found many Audi auto's to be nicer with better fit and finish than BMW and MB. Both of them have been sitting on their history. It was funny to see at the local GMC / Buick Dealership that they had 7 BMW 3 series that were from 1 to 3 yrs old and 5 MB that were all 2 years old traded in. I would say more people are realizing they can get great auto's that drive equal to what BMW & MB puts out without the crazy cost of ownership or the poor quality. +1 Putting in the 2.8 L Duramax would be an awesome engine for the Encore to get. -

That will truly force me to continue to hold onto my older auto's. I refuse to be a lemming in a foam cooler. If auto's go the way of the movie Time Cop that has no windows and is self driving, that will be a sad day. I challenge the true impact safety of these higher doors. I think they can be built with more green house and still offer the same protection. -
First off the SS is DOA (Dead on Arrival). Why????? They did not hold to the concept enough to really make this a striking auto in consumers eyes. While you have plenty of power, I do not see this as a differentiator to truly set it as a Niche vehicle. Cost are already high to get this auto out of aussy land. Second is GM Performance should have built the SS here in America. If they really wanted a family 4 door sedan to excite the masses they should have built it here off one of the existing platforms as an AWD SS. Either the Impala or Malibu so that it had a link to the chevy portfolio.,

Seems to show that the baggage of GM is going to haunt them for life. If they can truly change the perception of Opel / Vauxhall auto's then fine. But I think the sales issues are more a dealership issue as the dealerships are old dinosaurs that suck and need major refreshment.

Massachusetts proposes taxing by miles driven
G. David Felt replied to balthazar's topic in Industry News
Washington state has established a review board to study the possibility of going to miles taxed instead of a gas tax. This would apply to all vehicles regardless of the type of propulsion system. Personally I think it could be a better way to go and drop the crazy gas tax which Washington is one of the 5 highest in the nation. Suck for Mass peeps as you are in essence being double taxed. One or the other not both. -
November 2013: Mitsubishi Motors North America
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in 2013 Sales Archive
Not sure about the death clock being set back. If anything they got a bit more oxygen to see if they can really run or not. My gut tells me they have a line in the sand to meet certain sales goals or be closed and so a bit more oxygen to see if they can jump start sales and keep them going.- 4 replies

Durango rocks, my daughter is planning to trade in our 99 Durango for a new one in the spring time. Would be a shame to kill what I see as a quality built mid size SUV that is doing really well as I see a ton of them all over. Plus if memory serves me right, is it not a sister to the Jeep Grand Cherokee? I cannot see killing off a solid auto that has less R&D costs since it is a shared platform. -

Have to say I love what I see over all, nice big rims, solid body style. I think the compact CUV market has a ton of growth for AWD luxury models. My one dislike is the Military style small windows. I am hearing from more and more people who are so over the small windows and want a bigger green house. I know there is a market for people who like that slim small window, but more people like a bigger green house and if auto makers do not watch it, they will find themselves with product that does not sell as customers are looking for that bigger green house affect. -
Nice write up, seems to be a bland basic people mover for commuting. At least it looks a little better than the older model but the interior is pathetic. You are so right that for this price point, they have gone way to cheap and yet people will buy it blindly due to the Toyota name rather than look at better alternatives. It will sell, but I cannot say it will be a home run hit.

I think the new Cheerokee is pretty awesome, I was not a fan at the begining, but after seeing it in person and being able to check the auto out, the trail hawk is awesome. http://www.cheersandgears.com/topic/82320-2013-seattle-auto-show/#

Racing Seats and Harnesses - Some Feedback
G. David Felt replied to Rvinyl.com's topic in Auctions and Classifieds
Racing seats can be used in any auto, even daily drivers if a person loves a stiff very supportive seat like that. Also a 4 point racing harness is very safe, even safer than traditional seat belts IMHO. As long as a person realizes that racing harnesses do not have the same give and take as traditional OEM seatbelts, I love them for the snug fit they give you. -

Sold GM performance. Amazing what a FWD appliance can do like the XTS. I think a certain person who is all high and mighty about german engineering needs to eat a little humble crow.- 10 replies

Ya, the R/T.. https://autos.aol.com/article/2011-dodge-grand-caravan-rt/ WOW, that is pretty interesting, wonder what type of premium they got for a Man Cave mini van.
-
Why not? True, but you just cannot make it a true sports vehicle. It is a people mover after all.
-
A blacktop edition for the van??? Why???

FTFY What the? I so hate acronyms. Makes it so much harder to understand some times.

Acura News: American Honda CEO Outlines Plan To Fix Acura
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Reader Reviews
Agree that the names hold more emotion, yet even then they were still over priced luxury Honda Versions. Acura needs to truly stop rebadging Honda and go their own way with body style and interiors that set it apart if they want to be a contender.- 10 replies

Buick News: More GS Models For Buick Could Happen
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
Lovely Car! That would be killer as a Buick GS Coupe! -
I bet on the following, the ugly big plastic nose is for Euro spec pedestrian crash standards / ease of repair for auto crashes and probably the only way they can get at the engine for service. Remove the Nose, service the engine and put the nose back on again. Vans have never really had an easy service access except in the 70's when you had the huge hump inside come off so they could do an easy tune up.

3 strikes and your out, we heard this all before and they continue to rework the same old relaunch plans. Same message different platforms. Eventually they will realize they lost the opportunity and just need to fold it or have it as a niche vehicle. There is no global ability for Alfa. Those days are past I believe. I believe this is talk to just keep certain few exec's or investors pacified to keep them from causing trouble as they need to focus on the lines that can make them money and not invest billions in a line that has a past due date.
