Infiniti News: Infiniti Moves Out of Hong Kong
oldshurst442 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Infiniti
For Cadillac... There is a lot of noise in Detroit. A lot of that white static noise. As much of an arrogant and clueless mindset that is in Silicon Valley, there is just as much of that same arrogant, clueless mindset in Detroit. Cadillac needs to distance itself from bad vibes. It needs to surround itself with good vibes. Returning back to Detroit may not be that answer either... Was NYC that bad of a choice, or was it still the Detroit dinosaur mentality that never accepted Cadillac going to NYC in the first place that hindered that decision? You cant move forward if resistance to change keeps dragging you down...(sound familiar?) Detroit to NYC is only 614.5 miles With the communication technology we got today, that distance is not a problem. I mean, even the engineering stuff, with the 3D software and virtual reality stuff...stuff gets engineered in one corner of the GLOBE and is sent via email with whatever means via the world wide web INSTANTLY to another corner of the GLOBE and other engineers get to view it as if they were there. The interior designs of cars are done this way I believe in that no real mock-up is used that often anymore and all the ergonomics are figured out in this virtual reality world... The designing of parts has been done on this level for a long time. I forget what was the first car to be engineered this way, but there was a car in the 1990s that was ENTIRELY engineered and tested in the VIRTUAL WORLD and its long term defects were computed in the virtual world....so...Cadillac being in NYC for THAT should NOT have been the problem. Cadillac distancing themselves from the FALSE accolades was a reason I believe. Cadillac did not, nor still does not need a bunch of homers high fiving each other over false hopes... Yes, Cadillac builds great cars, and the homers in Detroit SHOULD high five themselves for doing so. But also, that blindness does NOT see what others are doing, because those Detroit Homers ALWAYS thought GM had it going on, and let the German and Japanese luxury makers steal their lunch because of that sad arrogance, and that arrogance also does not see the weakness of the current Cadillac line-up. And that arrogance does not see what the others are doing to stay ahead of the game. Cadillac always seems 1 or 2 steps behind. And its that dinosaur mentality that stops Cadillac from actually LEADING the pack... As far as Infiniti goes...Hong Kong is a country within a country when their homeland is in another country. And Japan and China are not exactly the best of friends. If you think China and the US are not doing good in the foreign relations department lately. HA! China may have a deeep beef with Japan. I think THAT is more of the issue than anything else for Infiniti car sales in Japan. Infiniti being a Japanese car company.... At least Detroit and NYC as far as I could tell, are both in the USofA. -
I could see that happening... I just wished Id seen it sooner and for myself as I serve many of these types of cheapwads in my restaurant. Not necessarily cheapwad Tesla owners, but just cheapwad human disgraces in general.

Id like to say that, I support EVs. Im also a VEGAN myself. I just like meat to be served with my veggies. Its a personal choice. About my fueling habits. My daily driven habits are as follows. I fill up to the brim, and then go as low as possible before I fuel up again. But I have a gasoline station on the way to work and another that is almost right next to the restaurant and another that is very close to my house. And my daily commute is but a 6 mile trip going and another 6 mile trip coming back. But, If I need to travel far, I make sure I have enough to get me to my destination, and then some so if Im stuck in traffic, or there are wild detours (you never know in Montreal) I dont run out of gas. So, more often than not, on long trips, my tank is full full...

Chevrolet News:Chevrolet Debuts 2021 Trailblazer
oldshurst442 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Chevrolet
I could see what you are saying. What everybody else is saying. The first post I made in this thread is actually a serious post as it truly represents of how I feel about yet another CUV, and how I really dont mind the name because Im thankful its not yet another alphanumeric, but Im really down on the fact that we have yet another crossover in the marketplace. The other posts are just made in jest as I like to have fun sometimes. But there is still that element of truth to my posts as yes I troll, but its not full blown trolling as my posts are honest. But yeah, Trailblazer or on the other one, the Blazer, are not fitting names to these new CUVs as they dont fit their historical backround, nor are a good representation of what the actual names stand for in regards to what the new models do... But...Tracker is not a good representation for this new CUV either. No...not because of privacy scandals... But because Tracker also seems to be of an adventurous name...and this new CUV will not be that. Unless we think about GPS tracking devices to track are whereabouts going from Starbucks to Wallmart (this is 2019) to track where our UBER EATS driver is at so we could eat and not starve to death...- 42 replies

That, and...does anybody remember the Tracker anyway? And, what does a Tracker do that is so special? As the former model and as a name. As the vehicle named Tracker, it was a good offroader. This new CUV will be far removed from that. So...not so much different then Trailblazer as a name for it as there are discrepancies with model identities with both names... As a name...maybe in 2019...TRACKER for a vehicle name may not be so good. With all the hacking, spyware, Russian Collusion election tampering, WIKILEAKS/Cambridge Analytica/Facebook privacy scandals, Big Brother keeping an eye on us...Tracker maybe the wrong name for THIS generation...- 42 replies

Chevrolet News:Chevrolet Debuts 2021 Trailblazer
oldshurst442 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Chevrolet
OK...Ill play this game... I get it. Nobody LUVs this name. Chevrolet did not EXPRESS the proper name structure for it. It has the wrong SPARK with some of you. It feels like a KODIAK eating you alive eh? Its like a TOP KICK to the balls, right? It seems Chevrolet VENTURE(D) and TRAVERSE(D) into an AVALANCHE of dog poop. What can we do? Give Chevrolet a CITATION of some sort? What would that accomplish? I know, it does not CAPTIVA(TE) the essence of Chevy's history. I get your passion for the name structure. You folk refuse to take a CAVALIER approach to all of this. Ya'll should form a TASK FORCE, take a BERETTA to it and put it out of its misery. Then take all its parts and ship them back all over the work, to ORLANDO, COLORADO, MALIBU, BEL AIR, MONTE CARLO, CORSICA so we never LUMINA(TE) this garbage ever again. Post your ENDEAVORS (wrong brand) on Facebook or Instagram in a way that rivals a NOVA and become instant CELEBRIT(Y)IES... But alas. There is no SILVER(ADO) linen in this cloud of yours... but a new EQUINOX shall arrive anyway, and its written in COBALT, that this new SUPER SPORT(Y) CUV will forever be known in this EL CAMINO world, that this CUV will forever be known as the TRAILBLAZER!!!!- 42 replies

To all the folk complaining about the name of this little new CUV. Ya'll preferred if it was called the Chevrolet ZX71? Just be glad it has an honest to goodness WORD as a name. As long as its a word or noun or verb that we can find in any language DICTIONARY...we good, dudes!!! But that is this reality that we have come to witness in 2019. Bemoan an actual word as a name for a vehicle when alphanumerics have drowned us, but dont bitch about yet another deadly disease to inflict humanity in the form yet another crossover.- 42 replies

Good question. Ya gotta ask those guys. Because what you observe maybe correct. But seeing as the US has a population of 325 some odd million people and there are 275 million registered vehicles on US roads to which there are at least 200 000 Teslas, on 45 000 miles of interstate highways, Id say that there is a good chance that those Teslas you see on those Superchargers are indeed interstate travelers. Im mean, the interstate highway system was created JUST for that reason, so Americans could travel the continental United States with ease...from one coast to the other. From North to South and every little town, city and state to be connected. This is how the automobile got to be so infused with American culture. Cruising hot city nights, but also family vacations trying to get to Wally world. Its a long way down, the holiday road. And when we are not going on family vacations, we are racing on them. Rolling down the highway, because...LIFE... is a highway. (Canuck rock-n-roll rules! ?)

Yup...all W-Body. You would be correct on the rounded dashboard. This would be the last interior of the W-Body Cutlass Supreme. I didnt like this dash.

THAT must have been a very enjoyable drive. Im feeling envy right about now.

Those are gorgeous too. I dont get why the automotive world wanted bigger horsepower figures on that model. It was a cruiser. Not meant to be a bruiser. I guess the world then was thirsty for horsepower and torque. But clearly didnt want Camaro or Trans Ams.... I get the concern for the lack of V8 and horsepower for the Plymouth Prowler, I just didnt understand it when some folk whined about that too for the Thunderbird.
-
Also...that dash design goes further than 1970... A 1966 Olds Cutlass dash to beat a dead horse...completely...dead...
-
I didn't like the newer interiors. I preferred the original. Because it resembled the classic Cutlass interiors also...I preferred the fact that those interiors were also optioned with the digital readout. 1970 1980s G-Body Olds Cutlass W-Body Cutlass Supreme And digital version Minus the digital screen where a that is clearly a modern upgrade where a plethora of buttons used to be.

Not quite yet ready for one just yet. It will be a 442 clone. Either a 1969 Hurst/Olds Clone or 1970 442 clone. Or it will be a numbers matching 1970 442 W30. If it will be a clone, it will NOT have an Olds 455 under the hood. But a modern powerplant. But it will not be a ubiquitous LS/LT engine swap. It will be a custom engine job. kinda like a SD 455 cubic inch Trans Am depot engine based on the GM's LT engine series. Or a Hellephant 426 cubic inch engine based on Mopar's Hellcat/Demon/Redeye Hemi. Yes...if I was ready NOW, and I had the necessary 100 000 dollar plus budget for buying a number's matching 442 or building a quality show room clone 442, Id SERIOUSLY consider putting a 426 inch Hellephant engine in it. Or even the Red Eye version Hemi. YES! Id MOPAR my Oldsmobile!!! And yes! Id consider putting "426" on the front of the car instead of "442" and Id consider doing hockey stick graphics like the Hemi cars of old, instead of the Oldsmobile Hurst graphics, which kinda look like MOPAR hockey stick graphics AND...Id have a logo that says HEMI/OLDS instead of HURST/OLDS on the side front fenders... Yes...I dream a lot...but THAT is what keeps my dreams alive for owning a 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass one day. Id even consider making the Cutlass an EV 442 clone...as of now...using Tesla Model S or Model 3 skate platform and putting the Cutlass body shell over the Tesla skate platform some how... Id NEVER spend 100 000 dollars on a car. But if my other retirement plans do not go through, this option is open for me. If the other plans go through, then maybe Ill never own a 1970s Cutlass. If Im lucky enough to have my cake and eat it too, then Ill get to live my life with my wife in paradise and not worry about money at all when we are both old and grey, and my kids are living their lives without having to worry about money, and I still get to have my dream car.... If none of my plans go through...at least Ive had a nice dream to dream about all these years of hard work... But...in the meantime. We save money for the future. My future, my wife's future and my kid's future and we see what happens...

Unpopular Opinion about an Unpopular Car?
oldshurst442 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in The Lounge
You had one of those? Man...I LOOOOOOVED those! I tried to get my dad to buy an 1994 Cutlass Supreme 4 door, but it was a tad too much money for him, so we went with my 2nd choice, 1994 Pontiac Grand Am GT 4 door. It was a tad cheaper plus we got a better deal on the Grand Am...a better deal than what the dealership was willing to do on the Grand Am than on the Cutlass. But yeah...that Cutlass Supreme convertible was a dream machine for me back in the day. W-Bodies were good cars. When they got all the bugs fixed, they were quite reliable cars. Minus a few stupid engine choices GM chose to use on a couple of models... -
I see what you did there...cutlass. A type of sword... Transgression...his transgression of not acknowledging my friendliness towrds his car yet I am the one being truly rude by callingn him an asshat... Very clever. Well done. Well played. Phoque him! One day... MY Oldsmobile Cutlass will be better than HIS! One day....

Toyota News: Rumorpile: Next Gen Tundra to get Twin-Turbo V6 Hybrid

All it takes to kill any kind of momentum that is generated by durability ads, is for somebody to do a political style attack ad. -
Reality is indeed complex. There are many facets to reality. Different types of people, in different parts of the world have a different type of reality. I understand this and accept it too. I have a problem ONLY when one individual thinks that there is only one reality and THAT reality is the only reality we should adapt to. And I know that this is a two-way street as THAT person WILL think EXACTLY like I AM THINKING, that I am trying to push MY reality unto HIS... Back to EV infrastructure: Nope...not a thing. False claim. Not reality. ESPECIALLY going forward. Technology IS moving forward with this so charging times WILL go down. But even as is, NOT. A. PROBLEM. For daily driving needs. For long distance traveling. Again. Its ONLY a problem when you resist change. People that have bought EVs, dont see that as a problem. And you know what? I gassed up yesterday. JUST before going to my daughter's softball practice. I was running on fumes. I wanted to full up to the brim. On a usual fill up from completely empty to fully full, it does take a good 5-6 minutes just at the pump...well, the pump yesterday was slow as phoque for whatever reason, and it took LITERALLY 12 minutes JUST for me to put gas IN the car. THAT is ALMOST EV charging times right there. And I had to stand there like an idiot with my hand on the pistol. EV chargers...you just place it there and leave it there... Oh...I had the wife's Fusion, and the Ford has no gas cap for me to do the little gas cap trick to stick it under the handle so I could smoke a cigarette while the car fills up...(yes...Ive seen this before in the 1980s when smoking was rampant and safety was of little concern regarding fire hazard around gas stations...) ??? Portability??? Electrons move very easily. Even the suns rays could be transformed into fuel...actually, we as humans get fuel with the sun's rays... Maybe you mean charger stations? THIS is why GM is investing in a charger network system. Tesla keeps on growing theirs. THIS is also the reason why they continue to bleed money. Nobody acknowledges this fact, but they keep poor billions in expanding their charging network system. Its an asset that is very very valuable... Again...false reality on your part. That is a problem with ICE as well. Prices keep going up in price for those. EVs as compared to ICE is sure higher for EVs. Yeah...and? Reality is that housing is expensive. HEALTY FOOD CHOICES are expensive. Good quality clothes that last more than two wash loads are expensive. GASOLINE is expensive. Maybe in YOUR reality it aint. In mine it is. And as is for the most of the world. Electricity though, in my reality is cheap cheap cheap and clean clean clean clean so for me, in the next generation of EVs, the higher cost of EVs over ICE will be offset by a huuuuuge margin with maintenance and gasoline purchases...especially when MY government is gonna help out with electric vehicles and electricity as fuel for housing (heating and cooling) and all that. Not just for private usage, but for public service buildings and vehicles such as metros, buses, garbage trucks, postal vehicles etc... All that will fuel our economy as hydro-electric power is almost our only source for electricity (we do have wind mills to assist) and there has been no coal powered stations for the last 50-75-80 years, and our only nuclear plant was decommissioned and dismantled 3-4-5 years ago.) So...different reality for you and I... EVs ARE profitable... Tesla is not...NOT because EVs are not profitable...Tesla has other issues... For GM...well, as good as the Volt and Bolt have been technologically, GM's half assed attempts to sell EVs and to manufacturer them...THEIR resistance to EVs in the past have kept EVs non-profitable for them. But now...they are going full tilt EV...and they think that they could make a buck or two with EVs... Again...reality has MANY facets...it depends what reality you choose to believe in... Only with folk much like yourself. Resistant to change and happy to be ignorant about the whole thing. Nobody, other than Tesla and Toyota, has created the right packaged EV just yet. Nobody, other than Tesla has created a visually beautiful EVs yet either. The Prius family of EVs are ugly as phoque. The Bolt is too small and too phoquen ugly. Tesla cars, while not Harley Earl/Bill Mitchel/Virgil Exner/Pininfarina/Henrik Fisker (irony that I mention Fisker as he had a slight influence on the Model S and the Model S was a good looking car 6 years ago) masterpieces, Tesla cars DO invoke passion with their car design language... Tesla has sold half a million cars to date. And still selling, although sales have dipped, so have other manufacturer's sales. But 500 000 Tesla cars sold. 500 000 THIS figure alone has made the rest of the industry to say...WTF??? Again...different reality you choose to believe in. You could tell me that EVs are nothing but barely 2% of all vehicle sales...which is one reality...but I choose to see 500 000 units sold... And..as it seems, so does GM, Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, VW and all others... Yes... but IF it crashes... Also...Tesla is bleeding billions because they are expanding their network... VW has a war chest of billions. GM does not. So...smart thinking for GM. But again, your perception of reality is different than mine. Who is right? I dunno...but GM and others are going full tilt with EVs. Crash and burn? You think GM will let that possible reality BECOME reality? Like in baseball or sports in general. Numbers, statistics and analytics have taken over. The poor teams adopted this, to better compete with the rich teams. The rich teams laughed at this idea. It worked. The rich teams used this to vastly improve on their chances. Poor teams still such, but not as much, but the rich teams still win....but numbers, statistics and analytics are part of reality in sports. EVs...are gonna be part of our reality. Too much money from governments, car companies are invested in this going forward. It will NOT fail as THIS is the reality governments want, and car manufacturers are accepting, complying and ultimately ONLY going to offer EVs for purchase. Phasing out ICE slowly, but surely. Like digital and high definition TV. Like how oil from whale blubber lead to oil and electricity to fuel our appliance and heating needs.

Tesla's supercharging network is an asset that Tesla possesses that appears to be overlooked. Tesla's network is an advantage that Tesla has over all other manufacturer's EV sales. That network system is a big part of Tesla's prestige. When VW and now GM matches Tesla's charging network in term of size and accessibility, that might just eat in to Tesla's appeal just a tad and maybe reverse Tesla's God-like aura they have.... Its in GM's best interest to build up a and beef up the charging network system if they want to succeed in selling EVs to the masses.

Going to my daughter's softball practice this evening. '69 Cutlass convertible. White. It looked like a red or burgundy interior. Great shape. I was on a two lane small winding road while he was coming on the opposite side. I saw him a mile away. I knew it was a '69 Cutlass as soon as I saw it on the horizon. Gave him a thumbs up from a looooong distance, the phoquer either didnt see me (how could you not see me? Two lane road, one going one way and the other going the other way...) Or he decided to ignore me....either way...asshat!

Unpopular Opinion about an Unpopular Car?
oldshurst442 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in The Lounge
Edited...? A little less on that one, but yeah, Infiniti seemed to have great unloved cars in the 1990s. Especially compared to Acura and Lexus. Ill do another car... Of all the versions of the VW Phateon's platform mates, I prefer the Veedub version. Actually, the VW Phaeton is mucho revered by me. Though, not much love for it here in North America.
