All this to say though that the 1971-1972 Buick Riviera did it better! Well...I think its better!!! Many highfalutin snobs might not think so. The price tag and the badge throws them off...its what they want to see more than anything else I suppose!

ME TOO!!! This is my favorite thing about it. That wood is just CRAZY awesome!!! It reminds me of that speed boat from Indiana Jones III Which I think was the inspiration of this Rolls Royce anyhow!!! The wood and the silhouette. I LOVE THIS ANGLE TOO!!!

It is NOT this car's mission to be a high horsepower car although some want it that way. OK...granted, the name of the game is to roll these off the shelf as much as possible so Toyota and Subaru might as well just give the damned consumer what it wants!!! It is not as if this a super low production niche car. It is a niche car but it wasnt meant to be low production... The so-called problem with this car aint even the horsepower rating...its a decent amount @ 205 horsepower. It really is the torque figures: 156 lb-ft @ 6400 rpm. Even my ecoboosted 1.6 liter Fusion that is meant more for "fuel economy" has a higher torque rating at a lower RPM!!! Id say even the Hyundai Genesis' coupe Turbo 4 cylinder rating of 275 HP and 275 Torques is what people want... A 250HP/250 torque rating for the Toyobaru might seem a tad low since the Mustang Ecoboost is 310HP/320 Torque and the Camaro is 275HP/295 Torque. But 275/275 seems like a nice compromise since also the criteria for this car is not supposed to be a tire shredding pony car either! Needless to say, I like this car a lot! But in this realm of sports cars, Id take in order Tied for 1st place 1. a) For style and sexiness in that EΧACT colour scheme....maybe with a Cadillac ATS 2.0T swap!!! 1. b) Yes in YELLOW! Or convertible

That is why I love the muscle car genre. Family car benefits to haul families and their crap. Affordable price if we stick to the original brand offerings in Chevy, Pontiac, Dodge and Plymouth. And if I was to splurge a tad because of financial success, then an Olds 442 or Buick GS or even a modern Chrysler 300 SRT8 or 2017 Chevy SS does the job for me...no need for high roller cars for me...although today's world, the CTS V or AMG style car seems to be the only way to have my cake and eat it too with the V8 thing! Daily driving needs and fun all-the-time persona (my personal style off fun) with me driving the car 24/7/365 without the need for a "week-end" car is with a muscle car. The best I could have done in 2012 when I bought my car was the 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD. The SH-AWD part is NOT because of winter in Quebec but because of the 300 or so NATURALLY ASPIRATED V6 horses under the hood! The FWD part is because of the Quebec winters, and the only way I got the 300 or so naturally aspirated horses was with the SH-AWD trim and configuration.

Well, to be honest, Honda just replicated what GM and Ford gone done with the Malibu and Fusion with the 1.5 liter 4 cylinder turbos and the dropping of the V6...although Ford gone offerin' a V6 again... But yeah, marketing fluff is right, but following market trends is what Honda is doing. Maybe the V6 take rate started waning? Maybe Honda Motor Company wants to distance the Honda Accord with the Acura TLX even further by eliminating the V6 offering in the Accord so the TLΧ could reign supreme in Honda Motor Company's midsized car offerings?

An observation from a different point of view is what Im about to do... And Im not telling you what you should do or even suggesting what you should do...just discussing and having a....discussion...from a different angle... What kind of "something cheap and economical as daily driver" are you thinking about? Because if its something really cheap and mundane, like something of this nature Driving daily as much as you do which is 100 miles each day and around 30k miles a year...wouldnt it be in your daily driving pleasure's interest if your daily driver WAS a more or less a fun week-end warrior type car (AFFORDABLE) in the first place? A VW Golf R type car comes to mind... Or a GTi.... It dont have to be the Audi S3....that is just stupid.... Or even a Subaru WRΧ type car..not even the STi...just the WRΧ Οr if you are into higher displacement vehicles with more girth to them, there is a Challenger or Charger R/T... What Im saying is that, if you are doing all that mileage, you might as well have your week-end fun during your WORK WEEK BYPASSING a second vehicle. Unless of course you are the real deal car enthusiast and you track and race your cars.

If it werent for the electric motor and rechargeable battery revolution up ahead...I would wonder how long before we would reach a peak with downsized 4 cylinder turbos replacing V6s before engine displacements would ultimately get bigger again with V6s making a comeback in mid-sized sedans like how this trend was in the 1980s and how things changed in the 1990s? As we all know...horsepower and torque DOES sell cars!!! (There was a hippie movement in the 1970s well into the 1980s to kill horsepower and speed...and yet in 2017...THESE ARE REALLY the GOOD 'OLE TIMES for HORSEPOWER, SPEED and PERFORMANCE!!!) The last time took a decade give or take... Like I said, EVs are part of this equation now, but instantaneous torque is what these motors are known for, and V8s have gobs of that...so...if the electric car wont be the dominant force like Silicon Valley suggest...I STILL wonder how long this trend of downsizing will continue? Yes, I Know...EPA numbers have to be in check... Torque in EVs still rule and V8s rule....and TTV6s also have gobs of torque... My question still stands....how long before we see a reversal of higher displacement engine offerings again?

You forgot Ford... (Check out the license plate!) I feel sad though, as I love a 6 cylinder power plant. I must agree with Casa though. Turbo 4s are quite good in replacing 6 cylinder cars in MOST applications. Not all applications though. Just like TTV6s cant replace all V8s either!

Honda News: Two Reasons As To Why the Civic Si Only Produces 205 HP
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Honda
Ill listen to all of these tomorrow. Daughter's softball game yesterday, son's baseball game tonight. Im assistant coach for both. Im exhausted. Im just lurking around in here reading and catching up on the news. Cadillac sales up 32% worldwide, new BMW SUV with a V12 maybe, Tesla Model 3 options are limited, etc... My brain is wired on perfect batting stances and getting under the ball to catch pop flys and what inning is this to how many outs are there... My opinions on cars for the moment is non-existent.- 35 replies

Bullshyte! The peeps would be discoing all night long to the wonderful buzz of electrics if we started electrics in the 70s They'd be powered by the Energy Bunny....you know...its just keeps going and going and going and going dancing to MJ's disco beat! Dont stop 'til you get enough! The EVs in the 70s would be frightening....because they would be like thunder....LIGHNTING! By the time the 1980s would come around....we'd all be driving on Electric Avenue

Im beating a dead horse if I answer this one. But Ill just show you pics instead. All Mercedes cars that have engraved into our psyche that Mercedes Benz cars are simply engineered like no other! And Heads of State ride in them because simply the best they are! You think that in the years 2000-2017, NOT PRE-WAR Europe, but at a time when Mercedes Benz should be at the top of the world catering to the stupendously rich, not the for the masses, should be offering these? Rolls Royce...there was a time when Mercedes Benz was ON EQUAL footing with the likes of that 500K and 770K of Adolf Hitler.... You are the ONLY one that thinks that M-B is that high on the lux scale.. They could be....but not if they continue selling Cimarrons to the masses! Sorry SMK....there are some things we agree on with Cadillac on why they fail often and there are things that we agree on why Mercedes Benz succeeds.... But Im baffled as to why you think selling literally shoddy CLAs and B Classes to the masses IN NORTH AMERICA is a good viable strategy where North Americans were actually sheltered from seeing Mercedes-Benz be a mainstream automaker in Europe! This MAINSTREAM insanity in North America to gain volume is gonna hurt M-B's image in the long run. Its OK of you dont wanna see it...but THAT is 1 reason on how Cadillac screwed the pooch. A Cadillac for all approach did not work out so well for Cadillac. Hell, that strategy is starting to hurt BMW as of now....

Yeah. I wished we got the GTO up here in Canada. Id probably would have bought one instead of the 2005 Impala SS I traded my 1999 Olds Alero for. All this discussion and Im getting all kinds of memories flooding in from this time period. I got married on the 7th of June 2003. Yup...just a couple of days left for our 14th Wedding Anniversary. Plus...this concept just entered my brain. What happened to this? It never materialized? I just remember it had a decent horsepower rating that had me excited at the time, but the 300 HP STS was still the one I wanted!
-
I did not know that. I thought that the Omega, Catera, Commodore and the Middle Eastern Caprice and Lumina were all the same car. I mean...all the same wheel bases and such. Internet...well, I did not have access to it then as I do know... Nice to know.
-
Ill have to super agree with your comment on the Miata/Fiata and FR-S/86/BRZ . Mazda has been doing this since 1989 or 1990 with the Miata and that is EXACTLY what Toyota and Subaru told us what those cars were gonna be all about.
-
About that Catera... The Middle East got even BETTER versions of this car! The Lumina SS These had the Corvette's venerable 5.7 liter V8 under the hood in SS form! I don't know if it was the LT1 or the LS1, but yeah...V8! Maybe Cadillac should have gone the V8 direction in North America too with the Catera. Anybody read Arabic? Anyway...there are numbers in the article down at the link that makes sense to my English eyes! Maybe they make sense to your English eyes too...just click on the link! http://www.motiontrends.com/2001/m10/features/holden/holden.shtml About the CLA not doing any damage to M-B's image... All in due time. When M-B OVER saturates the market full of CLA's and closer to mainstream C Class and E Class cars in North America along with the GLA and other MAINSTREAM offerings that play the pretend luxury card...you will see that damage...not now...in 5-10 years from now. And they will hurt as much as Cadillac is hurting now... They walked away from this mess ONLY because dumb Americans were blinded by the love they have for German cars and the HATRED they have for American cars...but as Cadillac and Chevrolet offer BETTER cars for each and every price point Mercedes Benz offers...that hurt will come awfully soon! You see, American cars are getting better and better perceived by Americans themselves...

About this chat of slow tossability and today younglings discovering it... 1. I don't think today's cars have this slow fun tossability quality to them, therefore I don't think this phenomenon exists! Why? Today's cars are sooooooo in tune with safety in mind (electronic and computer controlled safety nannies), with traction control and electronic hand brakes and the like...that how CAN one toss and turn and break the tail end loose? One has to have wet pavement or snow to do that, or reach speeds that are too dangerous to achieve all that in the first place requiring insane horsepower levels JUST to achieve that in a short amount of time and space! 2. Today's cars are soooooo good in balancing weight and driving dynamics and the brakes are soooo good and the tires are wide and the tires have sooooo much more grip and the handling of MOST cars is so taut that the limits of even the most mundane car is pretty damned high requiring any type of shenanigans to be made at high enough speeds that are too dangerous to achieve all that in the first place requiring insane horsepower levels JUST to achieve that in a short amount of time and space!

Lincoln Continental Named Best of the Best
oldshurst442 replied to Sal Collaziano's topic in Lincoln
@Sal Collaziano I don't really care about all this back and forth to tell you the truth. It was just a perception that I caught that I thought was a tad false and misleading. I gave my opinion on it, you rebutted, I countered again. You acknowledged me. I respect you for that and that is why I upvoted your retreat post. I don't want to bully you into submission. I don't want you to feel like you owe me something. I want you to continue with your insights. You the hell am I to make you do otherwise???!!! With that being said. Buick and Lincoln, in 2017, serve different roles in the luxury market both in North America and in China. Buick and Lincoln, in 2017, serve different roles within their respective corporate parent company as well. I wanted to get that message across. I did it with an "in your face" way about...that is just how I do things to make a point! Nothing personal. Just entertainment. But that opinion that I shared with you, even if it was 'in your face', it is still a reality that is closer to the truth than what you originally wrote. As far as your latest post is concerned, that post is more sincere and closer to reality than what you originally posted. Thanx Sal, for hearing me out! -
I dont know! Im a tad (phoqued up ) after reading it too!

Lincoln Continental Named Best of the Best
oldshurst442 replied to Sal Collaziano's topic in Lincoln
@Sal Collaziano I noticed that @2b2 gave you a +1 for this post. I took it away... Why? This explanation is more for @2b2 rather than yourself. I gave you a +1 for the last post you made! There it is! A DIRECT comparison! Hence why I rebutted with this: And this: INCLUDING the pics of the late 1990s/early 2000s Lincoln Continental and Buick LeSabre!!! @A Horse With No Name The exclamation points are still there!!!! No!!! Today was a nice WARM day!!!! Thank-you for asking!!! -
The 1990s is where Mercedes got its real wind!' That is the car that started it... Before that... Beverley Hills trophy wives drove these around... Yeah...they were lusted after...but really, this model was sold in the 1970s all the way to 1989... in the 1970s...THIS was TRAILING IN EVERY ASPECT ANY CADILLAC CAR in terms of tech, luxury AND desire!
