Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-AMG to Launch 53 Line Next Year
ccap41 replied to William Maley's topic in Mercedes-Benz
With so many V8's dying or being limited to much lower production vehicles I'll be surprised if almost all don't switch to inline 6's because then they will have a modular inline 3/4/6 cylinder situations to work with all while using the same base block and bore.- 70 replies

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-AMG to Launch 53 Line Next Year
ccap41 replied to William Maley's topic in Mercedes-Benz
I think going inline is a huge part of the equation that's getting left out. NVH should all drop with this engine over every V6. If they have a smoother engine I'd assume they could use less sound deadening to reduce weight in their vehicles as well.- 70 replies

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-AMG to Launch 53 Line Next Year
ccap41 replied to William Maley's topic in Mercedes-Benz
Hmmmm interesting.. I'm assuming the eAssist turbo system will help reduce lag and improve efficiency? While the numbers alone aren't insanely impressive the engines themselves sure do sound it. " The M256's two turbochargers aren't twins. One of them is an "electric auxiliary compressor" (eZV, a German acronym), which can spool up to 70,000 RPM in just 300 milliseconds. This helps negate the lag of the larger, exhaust-driven turbo. Mercedes is so confident in this twin-turbo setup, it claims that the engine has no turbo lag whatsoever. We look forward to finding out for ourselves. Further bringing this straight-six into the future, is the M256's 48-volt electric system. TBased around a crank-mounted electric generator, the system can provide an 18-horsepower boost, regenerate energy from braking, and power the water pump and A/C compressor. Mercedes was even able to eliminate the starter motor and belt-driven alternator, replacing them with a single starter/alternator unit to save weight and eliminate complexity. ... A straight-six, by contrast, doesn't require any complex hardware for smooth operation, since all the cylinders are in a line. With this layout, there's no side-to-side vibrations, and at any given moment, half of the pistons are traveling up and half are traveling down, canceling out any up-down vibrations."- 70 replies

Jeep News: 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL is Slightly More Expensive
ccap41 replied to William Maley's topic in Jeep
$3000 is a pretty good chunk. I assume this will be first model year then maybe an even more dumbed down version in a couple years. $28,000 seems like a lot for a base model 2WD 2-door Wrangler though.. when you have to add A/C, power windows/locks.. okay maybe there can't be a lower priced Wrangler!- 9 replies

I thought you didn't care about horsepower...?- 70 replies

I wouldn't either. Knowing it is a limited supply of cash and insurance and such are never ending, I'd still be smart with it.
-
I don't plan on going 200mph but I still want a Ford GT because it's the best at what it does(I realize it isn't actually the best but you know what I'm getting at).
-
Yes, I would absolutely love a Rover Sport Supercharged. That's like a dream vehicle of mine. It's the right size and it's got ass to scoot.
-
Personally, I'd probably take the smaller Benzes and BMWs over the Gator as well. I'm just not as comfortable driving things as large as houses, lol. GLE550e or GLE43 would be fine and over at BMW I'd like an X535i or 35d would be preferred.
-
Without a doubt! It's also probably a few feet smaller in like every dimension than a 'Gator so the need of the customer might be different but the current size of the G is perfect for me. It's not huge at all.

So name all of their non-luxury vehicles then.. CLA and Vans? If those are the only two things taking them from luxury to non-luxury you're drunk. CLA is "meh" and we all know that. C Class and up are time after time touted for their superior interiors over their competitors and obviously they have chassis and drivelines to match so I'm missing where they are a non-luxury brand. Please elaborate on how C Class through S Class aren't luxury vehicles and (oops i just realized the GLA is also probably not truly luxurious either! So three vehicles sold in the US, not two.) GLC through GLS aren't luxurious?- 70 replies

I love MB as well. They would easily be my first choice in luxury cars. Still luxury only here. They only sell the work van here. So like 98% luxury here. Ask anybody you know if Mercedes is a luxury brand and they will say yes. That's all Mercedes cares about. They don't need they itty bitty fraction of enthusiasts who weren't in the market for their cars anyway to care. If they had their whole like of trucks here, I'd agree.- 70 replies

I'm totally fine with them on the exterior but I can agree that the interior could have gotten cleaned up a little better.
-
Maybe I'm an idiot but I love the exposed hinges and screws. It's retro but honest at the same time.
-
I know they're all "hidden" because the top of the page wasn't loading and finishing but they have multiple shades and combinations of colors available. Nothing from the G was taken from the Escalade's book. Trying to build and Escalade I'm only seeing three interior color options and two on the Platinum trim.
-
That looks gooooood. They didn't take that from the Escalade at all... You could get a G in any color scheme you wanted today.
-
That's so damn cheap.

Kia News: 2018 Kia Stinger to Begin At $32,800, GT At $39,200
ccap41 replied to William Maley's topic in Kia
I did a little searching and it seems like people are trying things and parts already, which is cool. Hopefully the aftermarket grows with this car but I bet it'll be pretty small. This was a good little read and they made some pretty significant gains with intake, catback, and a tune. https://stingerforum.org/threads/stinger-gt-3-3tt-mods-begin.1062/page-2 Absolutely! My Mustang I had dyno tuned but I had it on a handheld tuner so I could go back and forth when I wanted to was like a 5 minute process to go back and forth. If I could have had it from fuel economy to performance in a couple seconds, that would be FANTASTIC. Although, I know m fuel economy tune would be on 87 octane and performance would be on 93 so that would never really work for me. -

Cummins has EV trucks they're working on already as well, although I think you just accidentally forgot because I thought you knew that. I think they're about ready for production, if they already aren't.- 11 replies
