Satty, We visited KS/ last year shortly after the ice storm. If there was ice in AR it wasn't bad, but I remember going through Wichita and there was lots and lots of tree limbs down. The one she refers too as being really bad as probably `05. Moltar, I agree, driving in ice is the worst condition to drive in. Snow isn't bad at all, just use your brain, common sense, and patience and it's fine and even fun...except the traffic jams... -- Went and did some shopping today. People are funny...acting liek it's the end of the world. Gas station were overflowing with cars, grocery stores were packed. Although I'm guessing some people are getting gas for their generators. Much of the neighboring towns are without power. Also, that National Grid van is still parked there.

So we had a pretty major winter storm here in New England last night. It's been crazy weather. Last weekend the temps were in the 10's and 20's, earlier this week they were almost 60 with one storm. Temps dropped back down with this storm that just passed over us, giving a good chunk of New England one of the worst Ice Storms in recent history. Apparently much of the area is without power, although we're lucky and still have it. Here's some photos from this morning. I'll say this: ice is dangerous but it sure looks pretty.

That's Anti-American if I ever saw it.

If they do use money from the Wall Street bailout then this was all for show, since that was the original proposal anyway. I love how the Republicans wanted to take a pay cut but didn't have a problem with the pork slipped into the bill to give judges a raise.

Will this have a cascade effect on the US Economy?
Intrepidation replied to network engineer's topic in General Motors
Well we don't have tons of money but we are working with what we've got to get gifts for Christmas. Every other month most of the money I make goes to our ridiculously high car insurance...this is the one month were I want to spend it on something besides lousy insurance. -
The K-cars. Simple cheap, fairly reliable. These unloved cars saved the company. I'll also throw in the Shadow/Sundance. They weren't beautiful, but they were extremely practicle, looked like regular sedans, handled well for their time, and are easy to work on.

So they can mismanage that brand too? It's unfortunate and certainly possible, if Chrysler can weather the storm until `10, they'll have a slew of new, and supposedly vastly improved productes, an EV, and one of the most advanced V6 engine series in the world.

House Republicans throw wrench in the works
Intrepidation replied to Intrepidation's topic in Industry News
Just because people are Democrat doesn't make them liberal, and likewise not all Democrats fall into the extreme liberal category some of you make them out to be. I swear, next prison to make the generalization gets a Prius up their ass. -

I give it a solid "meh" based on what I've seen so far.

Not sure what I'm known for...perhaps sticking up for Chrysler?

Comparison Test: BMW M5 vs. Cadillac CTS-V vs. Mercedes C63 AMG
Intrepidation replied to Intrepidation's topic in Cadillac
Having actually sat in a 3 Series, G35/37, CTS and IS I will again say their button layouts aren't any better IMHO. They're all good, and they all have a quality feel to them as well as the entire interior, although the IS was a bit of a disappointment, it's still pretty good. In addition, I found nothing basic or unappealing about the CTS' controls. They were easy to use and logical, but they were also laid out nicely. I have not sat in the C-Class but it's interior looks stark and boring. I'm sure it's good quality and all, however I do recall more than one comparison of the C-lass and CTS favoring the quality of the CTS' interior. -
That reminds me, I go some happy news from my insurance companyf or once...it went down $110. Yay.

Autoblog We've gone from $25 billion to $34 billion and back down to $15 billion. The Detroit 3 CEOs have appeared before Congress twice. Congressional Democrats and the White House have spent the last few days wrangling over the final version of a long-in-the-making Auto Rescue/Bailout Bill and just before it's ready to take center stage on the floor of the House and Senate, this happens. House Republicans today have introduced a new bill in the 11th hour as an alternative to the bill we've all been talking about this past week that was engineered by Congressional Democrats and the Bush administration. The new House bill proposes that instead of handing over loans to U.S. automakers before a viable roadmap for their long-term sustainability is in place, the government should instead provide insurance that would be funded in part by the automakers themselves and cover up to 50% of the losses of new investment in the case of default. This can be difficult to follow, but it's similar to a plan introduced during recent Congressional debates over federal aid for the financial industry. In essence, the U.S. government would be insuring private investment in the Detroit 3, which House Republicans hope would help "unlock immediate private investment" in them. If the U.S. auto industry still went under, those investments would be covered up to 50% until March 31, 2009. House Republicans think their bill is superior because it doesn't make the U.S. taxpayer a direct stakeholder in the automakers, while we think it's ludicrous because there's no guarantee that investors would suddenly pour money into Detroit just because half of their risk is covered. It sounds like a really fast way to lose half a fortune to us. You can check out verbiage of the American Automotive Reorginization and Recovery Plan for yourself after the jump and sound off in the comments if you think it's the right way to go (or not).

New England International Auto Show
Intrepidation replied to Intrepidation's topic in Other Auto Shows
Pretty accurate assessment Reg. One thing that irked me about the show was that most cars had the batteries disconnected. I can understand I suppose, but the CC I sat in had the (power) seat all the way to the front...So I had to sit in it sideways to look inside. -
Have a multi-car fleet is very good to have, as you never know when one may break down or need to be serviced for more than a few ours. Since you own a pretty new car this is less likely to occur but it does and unfortunately has for you. Certainly a cheap beater like an Aries, Spirit, Shadow, Cavalier, older Jetta, etc. would be something worth considering, especially since an older car is cheap to insure and you get pretty good deals insuring multiple cars. Hell you could even go hunting for a cheap classic...then you have a cool old toy that can double as backup.

I thought Silver was the most popular color in America? Or are they counting fleet sales?
