  1. Because Stairway to Heaven follows a classic "slow intro that builds up into a screaming orgasm" progression. Metallica's One and Fade to Black, which are also favorites of mine, are other examples of this progression. It's very sexual, which gives it a fairly universal appeal. . . . Also, the lyrics make no sense, which has caused far too many drug-addled youths to unhealthily obsess over it. Not to mention the rumors of Satanic messages, which has caused far too many religion-addled old folks to unhealthily obsess over it. Combine all these factors, and you have yourself one culturally iconic song.
  2. I'll be in Charlotte with some friends to ring in the new year. There's a UNC basketball game on New Year's Eve, so we'll watch that at a bar, then do the typical countdown-type activities.
  3. :rimshot: Edit: I said rimSHOT, ocn! Get your mind out of the gutter!

    Pictures!

So can I, but only with my right arm. My right arm has always been much more flexible, and the shoulder blade pokes out funny, like it's not attached properly. I suspect something happened before I could form lasting memories that involves my older brother and some wrestling moves he saw on TV.
  5. I do, though I've never called them lima beans. Where I hail from, they're called butter beans. Anyone care to take a gander at how the lima bean got its name?
  6. Alright, FOG, since you've put yourself on the spot, would you please be so kind as to explain to us just what non-derogatory interpretation you meant to convey?
  7. My problem is that I will always wake up 5-30 minutes before my alarm is set to go off. It's very frustrating knowing that my internal clock cheated me out of a few extra moments of sleep.
  8. I don't think they are saying that the tugging caused her back to break. In these cases, people are urged not to move the injured person out of fear that their back is already broken and that any movement could cause the already-broken spine to shift and injure spinal cord.
  9. It would be difficult to determine if she was paralyzed before or after the other woman tried to help her, but certainly the woman's actions did not help the situation. One of the big issues in this case is whether or not it is reasonable to expect an untrained civilian to know what (and what not) to do in such a situation. I'm not sure how reasonable that is, but I do remember learning that avoiding spinal injury was priority #1 when I was in elementary school, even though I've never received any special training.
  10. Her actions likely led to a person being paralyzed for the rest of her life. If you're looking for an example of frivolous lawsuits, this isn't the best one you could find.
  11. No, he's not. Neither the video nor the article tells what the scenario was that caused the co-worker to fear why the car would catch on fire. The video does an even greater disservice to the argument by trying to draw parallels between that situation and that of a family trapped in a flood who would certainly drown had they not been rescued. Standard protocol for avoiding fires is to make sure the car is turned off and call professionals ASAP. This isn't trying to discourage people from helping others, just to get them to do it in a responsible way.
  12. LEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeefffffffffffffffft. (doppler effect)
  13. :insert joke about hairy European women here: I don't have one particular favorite exercise, but I do prefer ones that allow me to enjoy the scenery and other people's company, like hiking. I'm not a fan of repetitive hamster exercises.
  14. In the past, I would have gone with mountains without a second thought, but I've been gravitating more towards the beach lately. Especially right now; every day for the past few weeks has been overcast and/or rainy.
  15. I went a couple years ago, and plan on going back when the new Back Shop exhibit is finished. They had a scale model out, and it looks like it will be incredible. And next time I go, I'm going to remember to bring my camera.
  16. Also, I don't care much for death metal vocals, since they don't stand out from the guitars and are often incomprehensible. But I've learned to get over that, since death metal instrumentals can be quite beautiful.
  17. I actually do like several anime shows and the general anime visual style, but the weird near-pedophilia in some of them is indeed creepy. Which Carolina style? There are two (both of which are delicious when prepared properly.)

    Ball funk

I'm a UNC + Carolina Panthers fan, so I can't really commiserate with you, especially after last night's beat-down of the Buccaneers. Although I am currently pissed at the Hurricanes for firing Peter Laviolette and re-hiring Paul freakin' Maurice.
  19. But . . . Yo Gabba Gabba told me not to! http://2nuff.multiply.com/video/item/8/Don..._Yo_Gabba_Gabba
  20. +1 Especially thread necromancers who blaspheme Yo Gabba Gabba. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x33yb9_yo...party-in-my_fun http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...ideoid=15466174
  21. Love, Actually is another good movie that is set during Christmas that I wouldn't necessarily classify as a Christmas movie, although it certainly has many Christmas themes throughout. For that matter, Die Hard is also set during Christmas. Nothing says "Merry Christmas" quite like the gift of Alan Rickman.
  22. I nominate the Westboro Baptist Church, which makes even the American Family Association look sane and reasonable. In theory, an organization for the ethical treatment of animals could do a lot of good. As is, they're only really good at educating people about the idiocy of PETA.
