It's really not cool that he is taking cheap shots at C&G. But after he was treated the way he was, I really can't blame him. I tried to stay out of that mess, so I'm probably not that good on the details but it seemed like a sketchy thing to me. Either way, what does it matter? C&G is still here and apparently GMS is gone.

My point one hour ago was the idea that at some point our freedom of choice becomes a bad thing. As of right now I really don't see how buying an SUV is detrimental to our well being. What? Because of the THEORY of global warming? Oh, that's right I guess you're one of the people who buys into everything he reads. You sure don't waste any time taking a small minded approach with your judgement of people. Is it because of the war? The war isn't over oil and it never was. It was about "overthrowing a dictator and eliminating terror" Of course, I guess that's a matter of opinion and what agenda your pushing. And we all know that differing opinions are not allowed in your little world. Once again, what's the problem? Unless, of course, you use the war as an excuse to be an environmentalist. Oh... THERE IT IS! It's not the argument that is flawed, just your logic. Really? You know that much about my lifestyle to classify me as an idiot that makes dumb choices? Oh, that's right, I forgot about your habit of openly stereotyping people based on identities that they build online. Identities that are as fake as the reality that you apparently dwell in. For the record; I drive a Ford Focus... Chalk another gross miscalculation up to enzl and his excellent judgement. FWIW, I knew you were sore about losing your little war that you tried to wage on me, but seriously, it's just getting funny now. I've suceeded in making you a troll becuse your 'passion' overrides your logic! How great is that!

NY 2008 Preview: Production Pontiac ST pickup to appear
FUTURE_OF_GM replied to Intrepidation's topic in General Motors
LOL... Putting all factual arguments aside (Price different, purpose, marketing, etc) I guess those same "cheap beer swilling... greasy hillbillys" are the same people buying Ridgelines, right? -
And your point is? How is buying a hybrid Tahoe detrimental to our society? Last I heard the whole point of buying a hybrid was so everyone could live in a bed of roses and such? Buying a hybrid SUV or riding a hybrid GM bus just amplifies the savings.

NY 2008 Preview: Production Pontiac ST pickup to appear
FUTURE_OF_GM replied to Intrepidation's topic in General Motors
I still think the sport wagon was cancelled for some other reason. Maybe capacity? Unless GM just got scared when Dodge cancelled the Magnum. Maybe if the G8 and G8 ST do well, the sport wagon will be re-considered. -
Around here, Miata is more for middle aged housewives than anyone else.

Why has our world seemingly been overrun by people that want to dictate our lives for the "greater good" These people need to leave me alone and let me live my life. Otherwise I might become one of those 'criminals'
-
I agree 100% That's individualist attitude I'm referring to when I always complain about 'spoiled americans' I'm all for freedom of choice and being an individual, but at what point is it going to become detrimental to our well being. I, for one, think we've already passed it.

I'll lay it all out in simplistic terms: The more we send our money overseas the more of it we lose. It would be all well and good to buy imported goods IF we had a healthy manufacturing base in america. However, we do not. Up through the 80s, the average american family was more prosperous because we made things here and exported them; it was a balance, we sent money overseas but also sold things overseas to recoup most of that money. Now, we no longer make things, but we're still sending money overseas. As a result we're seeing more and more people with debt (trying to maintain the lifestyle we were accustomed to) or more and more people with a declining standard of living. If you were making $18/ hour at the mill, $6.50/hour at Wal-Mart isn't going to make up for that kind of spending power. That other $11.50/hour is money gone from our economy, and in this world $$$ = power. The economy appears to be doing well because the capaitalists at the top (The people who helped sell us out) continue to build wealth through international operations, However, ask any sociologists and he'll tell you that the poor keep getting poorer and quality of life keeps getting worse. Sure, other countries invest in our economy, but not on the large scale that our manufacturing base did. They invest in our economy for 2 reasons 1) and primary, is to sell us their product for cheaper. 2) Is because they know not to milk the cash cow completely dry. The US is in a wounded state that other countries can maximize their benefits from but those othetr countries won't dare kill us until they've milked all of our wealth. It's not about improving the lives of americans, it's about transfer of wealth. What I predict will happen: (The most negative possibility besides all out war) 1) Our 'once was' middle class will decline so far that america will become disorganized and unlivable. This might result in economic disaster, it might result in mass poverty or it might even result in internal war. But either way, the writing is on the wall via increasing violence, increased drug use among the "middle class" increased disdain with leadership, etc. The country is literally dividing itself. -or- 2) China will emerge as the premier wealth and 'investment economy' of the world and america will be forgotten about, left to dry up and die. (Much like Russia) After all, we can't very well manufacture enough to defend ourselves anymore much less bring war against any rivals (Yes, even military vehicles are being outsourced now) and even if we could, america is becoming so diverse and uninterested that we couldn't unite to fight a massive war in the first place. Either way you put it, one thing is clear; america no longer leads this world and we'll pay a STEEP price for becoming so complacent at the top as other countries/societies are already beginning to use our resources for their gain. No one really likes america, because we clawed our way to the top and they'll probably take pride in stripping us of our assets and worth while we're relegating ourselves to 3rd world status in the next hundred years for the 'advancement of others'
-
One could also argue that americans threw the first punch by not investing their money in american products. Therefore, american companies have to offset their costs more and more, especially since the government basically works against them. That's why, despite the outsourcing, I'm still 100% behind the american companies. If americans want the kind of lifestyle they're used to, then thy need to THINK before they buy and stop being so spoiled that they connotate bad fashion with perfectly competitive products. I would be fine with classifying everything equal *IF* americans gave equal consideration to all companies. But as it stands right now, is there really any reason to buy an Accord over a Malibu besides personal preference? Not really, yet roiughly 40% of americans refuse to even give the Malibu a chance.

Your Fusion. What, you didn't want an opinion? That's what it all boils dow to anyway. Besides, it's all about ownership. Ford owns the majority stake in Mazda, so it benefits from the sale.

I don't really think there is a specific 'gay car' here. My gay roomie drives a Plymouth Breeze complete with white hubcaps and purple badges, which he calls completely gay. But that's just because we're all broke ass college kids and the car was given to him. Oh wait, it's probably VW or Mini... His gay friend down the hall drives a VW and thinks it's god on wheels and both he and another gay friend of his (The one I enjoy watching project runway with) both have an afinity for Minis. In fact, now that I think about it, my roomie LOVES the new GLI (So do I) so it must be VW.

GM @ Chicago 2008: Hummer H3T
FUTURE_OF_GM replied to Chris_Doane's topic in Chicago Auto Show (CAS)
I have always been a fan of Jeep trucks! I'd love to see that happen. I actually owned a Commanche at one time... TOUGH little truck that had taken lots of abuse but still ran great. -
GM @ Chicago 2008: Hummer H3T
FUTURE_OF_GM replied to Chris_Doane's topic in Chicago Auto Show (CAS)
A few thoughts: 1) I REALLY like this a lot! But I agree that it should've been here sooner and could've went a little further in it's mission. I wonder if all that talk of phasing out or selling Hummer a while back had something to do with it's too late arrival? 2) So this is essentially going to try and do what the Colorado and Canyon should've been designed to do in the first place? That makes me wonder if this is why GM has all but forgotten about the other 2 GMT355s despite showing many 'show cars' hinting at MCEs. GM figures it can kill 2 birds with one stone by introducing a truck to the market that can seriously (Maybe) go after the stated competition as well as throwing Hummer a bone in these increasingly anti-Hummer times. Will they be successful? I'm not sure, but I can tell you that I don't think this will have the amount of utility that the competition has. 3) This H3T is certain to suffer the same fate as the H2 SUT. The foundation is already too dated for a new offering from it to make much of an impact on anything. 3) I certainly hope they are successful though... Hummer has so much potential (That is evaporating by the day) that GM has not tapped. GM needs to continue to rapidly expand the franchise but sadly it seems like the division will dry up pretty soon. An H3 and H3T that are flawed and aging, and ancient (by todays standards) H2 and H2 SUT with only whispers of a GMT900 based replacement, and an H4 (HX) that is at least 3 years out, probably because it is dependent on the in development GMT700. -
CTS never meant Catera Touring Sedan (Unlike STS and ETC) GM defined it as meaning "C-Series Touring Sedan" In that vein, I can still the point of Newbiewar's post.

3 words: Freedom Of Choice LMFAO... That right there tells me that the write up is 'fixed' It doesn't surprise me though... After all, Edmunds is on the SUV hating left coast and they would NEVER want to spread the virtues of a Tahoe hybrid. They don't want people to have the freedom to choose the Tahe Hybrid, it's against their personal agendas. And why the hell would you test a Tahoe Hybrid on the highway 60% of the time? (Where the system probably isn't even working) Is this a review of the aerodynamics? I'll tell you why; to skew the results of the test in your favor. I don't remember reading any 'mostly highway' mileage tests for the Prius. Yeah.... Because Tahoe Hybrid owners are definitely going to be hitting the dunes on the wekends. The hybrid Tahoe will never get the respect that it deserves in the media and that's because this whole mess isn't about saving the environment, it's about controlling the buying dollars, interests, opinions and consumption of the american public. That's not even considering it from the anti-Detroit perspective.

HONDA AND DRIVER...ER...CAR AND DRIVER MIDSIZE TEST Mar 08
FUTURE_OF_GM replied to regfootball's topic in Chevrolet
I don't really have an issue with the Accord winning; that was a given since it's C&D we're talking about. I do have issues with the Altima beating the Malibu. I think the Altima is probably the most overrated mid size car on the market, and FWIW the Altima coupe is one ugly SOB. At least the Accord coupe is somewhat interesting to look at. -
I'm 25 and I enjoy the heck out of that movie. This is very sad news indeed... He seemed to be one of the few new Hollywood stars with actual talent.

I agree 100%! Personally, I guess I'll grab those guns I'm so fond of

My dad was a fire chief for 20 years... I've heard and seen some of the stuff he's dealt with. Somehow I could always tell if it was something really bad. We had this one wreck; happened early in the morning. 2 college kids (BF & GF) were going home traveling east bound on the interstate in their Jeep Cherokee. An 18 wheeler was traveling west bound and the driver fell asleep causing the truck (going 70-80 MPH) to cross the median and hit the couple head on. The 18 wheeler never even hit the brakes and it was really foggy (we're in the mountains) so the kids never saw it coming, thus couldn't react. Dad said it was like a bomb went off and it was probably the most upset he had been in a long time. The 18 wheeler went through the Jeep and ended up hundreds of yards off the interstate in the woods. Subsequently, we now have guardrails up both sides of the median on every major NC interstate now.

1) The car in these spy shots is horrible; I stated the same concerns about some of the original spy shots when they broke. 2) GM Europe doesn't need to be controlling anything and I doubt that they are. Europe doesn't have a car industry anymore for a reason, americans run it and americans will continue to run it and our american industry. The Europeans might have input, but that's it. 3) PCS, it's nothing personal, but if this were my site you would've been IP banned by now. Not really because of the news you bring, but because of the way you rub it in our faces. Then again, as many will tell you that have posted with me here for a while, I have never been here to make friends; even when I was a part of the staff. 4) Let GM "Europe up" it's line... I'll just buy used or buy from someone else.

Technically, Kappa and Y-Body are the same platform anyway, right? I thought I read somewhere that Kappa was based on the points of the Y-Body except downsized. It would make sense for the platforms to be merged or linked in some way.

Lutz: No to small cars and diesel, yes to E-85
FUTURE_OF_GM replied to Camino LS6's topic in General Motors
+1 Let gas hit $8/gallon... My V8 cars are lucky to see 500 miles per year. That's still only $400 in gas each year per car. And the more toys I get, the more the mileage goes down.
