  1. Your forgetting the MINI, which also should carry a premium, as well as the small Audi's, the GTI, The Volvo C-30, ETC. I think we will see more of a market for small cars here as the price of fuel goes through the roof, which it will. The exchange rate really killed GM on this one, your right, and you saw my previous comments on the dark interior. I hope you do get an Astra, if you like the way that thing corners and liked the Contour SVT...then you know what turns my crank in a car. Cobalt SS motor W/ a lighter interior...now that would be a car. Chris
  2. I think he just hopes someone takes a run at saving Pontiac. Chris
  3. Atlantic Ocean
  4. I think I see a Camaro in your future. And yes, GM nailed it on this one. Like I said, when GM gets it right... Chris
  5. Recovery
  6. We've lost a lot of interesting vets. I used to live in a very diverse section of Chicago. Lot of poorer Jewish people lived there, and several Holocost survivors. We forget exactly what a big deal WWII was. Chris
  7. ST. LOUIS, the city with the Arch
  8. The worst thing about the Astra was the dark interior. We drove one, almost bought it, but my wife felt like she was in a cave when she drove it. Hopefully, the car has a premium feel when it gets here. Again, it may be a very good time to be a small car fan. If Fiat gets some Alfa based cars here, ford does a good job with the new Euro Focus, and the new Astra works out things may be very good indeed. Chris
  9. Oh, and for the word... Paris, the City of light... Chris
  10. No it's not. The religious right reminds us every day just exactly how stupid people can be.
  11. Not sure that I agree with you here.... IIRC wasn't this the best selling car in Europe?
  12. I think they will "show you something" but that something isn't what your going to want to see. let me be very honest with you...I could see you buying a 98-02 Ls1 F-Bird, building a 1Le clone out of it, and enjoying it. Because GM ain't gonna be building your kinda car. At least I don't think so. What they will be showing you is a series of cars like the Volt that may or may not do well and may or may not save GM. But if you were to go look behind the closed doors at GM right now, that is EXACTLY what you would see on the design boards. I'll bet we have the Stang, Challenger, and Camaro around for 5 years tops. (remember how quickly people tired of them, sales wise, the first time they were out?)(remember also the cluster of the 73 and 79 oil crises?) GM, I will predict, will eventually be to us like the girls we dated in high school. A lot of fun, great memories, but a part of our past that ain't coming back in a million years. Chris
  13. I would like to see GM build a series of small, nimble, RWD cars. Still wonder what a small, RWD Pontiac would have been like. Chris
  14. Beautiful and Sunny here in Columbus, Ohio. Chris
  15. Your right. Chris
  16. Yes, they are. Would be nice to have them leave it open just a touch longer, as they could build more Solstice Targas. Chris
  17. I like it also. The Chevrolet Monza of the 70's was not a terrible car for its era, either. But I do like Monza. Chris
  18. The problem as I see it is that with each passing day GM lays off more designers and engeneers, closes more stores and more brands, etc. They are in one sense killing the very tools they need to regroup. Chris
  19. Reapeating what we've already said here...but I'd still love to see a Buick Bengal. Chris
  20. Really, compared to the car companies on the move, Chevrolet has a LONG way to go. Local Chevrolet dealer in Chillicothe where I work is right behind a resteraunt we service. Every time I go by there the place is a ghost town. Local Hyundai dealer I pass on the way home...lots of activity. Went home Thursday and 3 (yeah, 3) Genesis coupes out for test drive. I think the general is still a little too comfortable. Chris
  21. ...and why will the second Astra sell any better than the first? Gm had a great compact in the Astra with Saturn, didn't promote it, didn't really maarket it...gave up on it a few months after it came to market. I could see the same thing happening a second time. Chris
  22. Great...let's just dillute the Buick name even more. I don't mean to sound like smk4565 and be pssimistic, because I believe that GM can have a great future.... But.... That would just be dumb. Chris
  23. Honestly, I think I've decided to give up on any "future" models that I really want. With the SS Cobalt, Solstice, Sky, Solstice Targe, G8, SS HHR being discontinued... GM just killed about every product I would spend real world money to buy. The CTS and Corvette are cool, as is the nu 'bu... But for all I care we can, in the words of Oldsmoboi...become.."a GM historical Site." Chris
  24. I agree completely. Our whole society has seemingly given up and decided to become a half assed society. We have no one to blame for our decline but ourselves. Chris
  25. Which is a very profoundly good point that I think many here will miss. Back in the late 1700's it was common for people to print all kinds of garbage that was baseless and without reason. But debate is essential for a free society, and the cranks are one of the very groups the writers of the first amendment wanted to protect. chris
