A Little Closer To Reality: Mid-engine Corvette
Robert Hall replied to oldshurst442's topic in Chevrolet
If it's real enough to go through the MickeyDs drive through, that's pretty real...but the cockpit is likely too low for a drivethru, needs to be more at Tahoe height..;) -

Tesla Model 3 Production Has Some 'Bottlenecks'
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Tesla
A normcore EV would be a game changer. I wonder if the Malibu platform can support the EV hardware, as opposed to something purpose-built as an EV like the Bolt. Ford has the Focus Electric, but something like a Malibu EV if it had a good range and price could be a hit...- 176 replies

Ferrari News: Marchionne Stokes Ferrari's Interest In An SUV
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Ferrari
I could see it appealing to current Ferrari owners that also have a Range Rover, Bentyaga or other high end SUV. Or people wanting a Ferrari but needing the practicality of an SUV. Lamborghini is doing one, Aston Martin probably will eventually... Like back when Porsche added the Cayenne, they realized there were way more profits to be had than by selling sports cars only... -
Ram News: 2017 Ram 1500 EcoDiesels Are Hitting Dealers
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Ram
When I bought my CPO GC in March, there were several CPO diesel '14-15 GCs at the dealer, similar pricing but higher mileage. I didn't seriously consider the diesel, and after reading various horror stories (catalytic converter failures, etc) about them on the Jeep forums I'm glad I stuck w/ the Pentstar. I don't see any advantage to the diesel other than range and that doesn't really matter to me.. -
I've read of Porsche Consulting in one of the car mags a few years ago. They do speciality auto engineering consulting for other car makers on the down low. Like helping Hyundai design a cylinder head or Proton design a suspension. ( not actual examples but hypothetical). Kind of like what Lotus has done over the years, but without the publicity. There is/was also Porsche Design, not sure where that fit in..they did things like bicycles, purses, laptop cases, etc..

Tesla Model 3 Production Has Some 'Bottlenecks'
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Tesla
I do wonder if to achieve 200k a year they will have to subcontract out some of the assembly, maybe to a supplier like Magna or Valmet. Though I have no idea how much of their assembly line processes is compatible with normal auto manufacturing processes...- 176 replies

Tesla Model 3 Production Has Some 'Bottlenecks'
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Tesla
Yes, back to reality, the challenge for Tesla is to scale up production and maintain quality. Something other car makers have generally perfected over the last 100 or so years. Not a small task for a small company...can they rise to the challenge of mass production? Time will tell...- 176 replies

And the Bolt has the trendy floating roof design...like the new Leaf. The Fit and Versa have more ordinary 6-light greenhouses.

Definitely looks evolutionary from the previous Century...retro modern. I find it oddly appealing, like a Japanese Town Car...more interesting than the current weird Lexus styling...

I like the 3.6 and 8spd auto in my GC...smooth, reasonably quiet, decent gas mileage and powerful enough. I imagine it would be nice in the lighter Wrangler.

Tesla Model 3 Production Has Some 'Bottlenecks'

Seems like they still exist in some states in the US, or sell their products in other businesses... I'd heard they were mostly cell phone retailers these days. Haven't been in one since around 2000, lived near one then in Colorado Springs, used to pop in there occasionally. They have a website and online retailing, it looks like...- 176 replies

Interesting...turbo 4..something from the Fiat or Alfa stable? Maybe a variation of what was in Dart? I haven't really paid attention to FCA's 4s. I assume the V6 is the Pentastar.

Tesla Model 3 Production Has Some 'Bottlenecks'
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Tesla
The would be irritating...unless you could pair a phone via cord also. LoL...I haven't ridden a bus in the US since I was in college and grad school and took the campus buses around Kent and Ann Arbor. They do seem to attract a sketchy clientele in the cities I've lived in. I do like light rail, at least where it makes sense w/ my commute or life...I took it often in when I lived in Denver, to go downtown and other areas..never for work, though.- 176 replies

I remember FM radio being fun back in the 80s with local DJs and AOR stations...it all seems pretty boring and generic nowadays with so many stations owned by national companies like Clear Channel. So many have limited playlists and play the same stuff over and over again. I do like once a while listening to local university public broadcast channels when they have blues or jazz nights.. I've seen people using earbuds and headphones while driving also, very weird. Sometimes on drives I listen to podcasts or music off my iPhone by pairing it to the car via Bluetooth.. Anyway, just random observations..not sure how any of it is applicable to Tesla, other than that since Tesla cars seem to appeal to a technically sophisticated market, most of their buyers probably are more likely to stream content than listen to FM, so no big deal if they can't get FM in the Model 3 at first...- 176 replies

Tesla Model 3 Production Has Some 'Bottlenecks'

Having a touch screen control basic functions is risky, esp if the electronics fail or the screen gets cracked/shattered. While it won't get cracked from dropping like a phone screen, I can think of some scenarios--say that an on-screen function freezes (like the nav) and the driver repeatedly punches the screen until it cracks (I could see myself doing this) or the driver smashes a passenger's head repeatedly into the screen until it cracks...- 176 replies
