  1. The Liberty was RWD/4WD on a unibody platform, not BOF. The Compass and Patriot were FWD/4WD on a Mitsubishi-origin platform, the Renegade is FWD/AWD on a Fiat 500X-derived platform... size wise, the Compass an Patriot were smaller than the Liberty, and 4cyl only.
  2. The higher trim level Siennas are in the same price range, so it's not out unusual for minivans to be pushing $50k...
  3. Yeah, like with cell phones..new every 2...replace the obsolete/broken one with a new one..
  4. And when the the touchscreen fails or gets broken, a lot of features on the car will be unusable..not good.
  5. Yes, it was a rebodied Lotus Elise.
  6. A black current Mercedes S550 4Matic coupe in an Arby's parking lot. Don't see the big coupes that often, pretty sharp.
  7. They kind of overdid the fastback styling on the XJ..there is a long wheelbase variant though. I like the front, but the rear is painfully ugly, IMO..those taillights and bumper..ick.
  8. Oh yeah, I knew that, but didn't bring it up as I figured someone would chime in..
  9. I wonder if the Dyson car will have advanced ground effects to hold the road with suction, using their expertise in vacuums... In an alternate universe, I could imagine a Sears Craftsman pickup truck line, a Home Depot truck line, a Cosco Kirkland minivan, etc..
  10. Funny, kind of going full circle since Land Rover originated as the 4WD sub-brand of Rover cars. I couldn't imagine them dropping the XJ, it is the fundamental Jaguar--the only model name they have had continuously the last 50 years...
  11. The greenhouse is very similar to the previous Optima...similar rear door shape, similar c-pillar shape. But the other proportions are different with the distinctly RWD front clip..the lower body and front in profile remind me a bit of the Panamera.
  12. One thing I was happy about was I don't have to get emission inspections for my Jeep, even though my county does do inspections..too new I guess, even though it was brought in from out of state as a used vehicle from Arizona (originally sold new in California). Agreed on the safety inspections, Arizona and Ohio don't have them as far as I know..saw too many rolling wrecks in AZ and some in Ohio also...
  13. i'm kind of neutral on unions in general, as in the software business they generally aren't present and I'm used to a 'lone wolf' contractor mindset about work....staying at one employer for life is just not something in my world. But I do understand the important things unions have done for workers in general in the past... and don't unionized auto workers in the auto industry make more per hour than non-unionized, generally?
  14. 14 million is only about 5% of the registered vehicles in the US, though...not a big deal if those don't get emission inspections, IMO...and how many miles do those older vehicles drive per year compared to newer vehicles? Very few I would think on average..
  15. One thing that needs to change w/ inspections I think is cutoff years...do 30-40yr old vehicles still need emissions inspections, given how few are still on the road relative to the # of newer vehicles? An anecdotal example---a buddy of mine in Phoenix has had to go through hoops and carburetor rebuilds every two years, etc to get his '84 FJ60 so it will pass inspection, then readjust everything afterward to make it more drivable. He's planning to get a LS3 crate engine installed from a shop in Seattle that specializes in such conversions.
  16. Got that also...bad link or on a private page...
  17. There is/was a diesel Grand Cherokee, but it sounds like Drew needs a 3 row?
  18. South of the Mason-Dixon Line or the Ohio River, I suppose I'll admit to regional bias-- I love the Great Lakes region, Northeastern US, the West Coast and only a few other areas of the US.
  19. I wonder if the batteries under the seat restricts seat travel or necessitated thinner/less padded seats?
  20. It's like New Orleans..found the place gross and humid, but loved the food the time I was there... I could never live in the Deep South, though I could see spending winters in Miami or the Keys...still love it down there 30 years after living there. (the recent hurricane did a lot of damage down there, very sad..lot of friends that still live there suffered).
  21. It's actually the people and 'culture' that I dislike more than the geographic region itself..love the food..
  22. Most of them must live in rural places that don't do emissions inspections...don't see how such mods would pass inspection...
  23. That would be sad to see more production going to the South, I loathe the South and would rather see GM and others keep car production in the Midwest and Northeast..but that seems to be a dying proposition...:(
  24. That's the shit-for-brains 'coal-rolling' bros..their illegally modified trucks should be seized and crushed. Ignorance should be costly.
