The Intrepid Project
Looking good...those 300 seats look great in there...I don't recall the before pics--did your car have a cloth interior? That looks like the same radio head unit my Jeep has, and the HVAC controls look very similar.

Photo-controlled intersections and the cameras
They have them here.. Phoenix is one of the top cities in the country for redlight running and accidents in intersections...broadside and turning accidents every day. The yellow lasts very short durations in Phoenix, longer in some of the suburbs I've noticed.

HARDTOPS you might not remember
For some reason, even though it's FWD, I really like the design..it's unique inside and out...I usually like French car interiors also. Another piece of trivia--there were Renault Ramblers (the Rambler Classic) in France the '60s, 20 years before the notorious Alliance/Encore. Rob

Car shoppin' time!
Isn't that the era F150 that had the fire problem with the cruise control switch/brake master cylinder? The lawn chair comment gives me an idea of how to fix my Jeep seat... R

2011 Buick Regal Spied in US
? I never said anything about the LaCrosse being too large. Someone else must have said that. It fills in the gap in the midsize line between the Malibu and LaCrosse. I'm not talking dimensions. Previously, GM had the Malibu->G6->Aura->LaCrosse. Now, those two middle models are gone. The new LaCrosse seems more full size, though, and can probably replace the Lucerne. The new LaCrosse should compete well against the Taurus and MKS. Rob

2011 Buick Regal Spied in US
I have nothing against rental car companies..I try and only rent domestics when I travel. Fleet sales are a part of the market. Rob

2011 Buick Regal Spied in US
It's a gap filler more than anything else...previously, they had the G6 and Aura to fill in between the Malibu and LaCrosse. They need something in the middle for Avis. Rob

I wonder if there will be a 'Super' version..for that matter, how about a 'Super' version of the '10 LaCrosse?

Stars, Stripes and Spots
This was a 'Dos Equis' morning---saw two of the new '10 Equinoxes, one in a dark red and the other dark gray. They look good, very clean and modern design. Seen a few '10 Mazda3s in the last couple days also...smiley looking front end. Rob

Edmunds: Americans more likely to choose Chinese than Korean?
I'm trying to remember if I've ridden in a Korean car. About the only experience I can remember was around 1995 in a Hyundai Scoupe rental, from Boston area to Newport, RI and back July 4th weekend..the car lurched...very rough driving. Rob

Edmunds: Americans more likely to choose Chinese than Korean?
Interesting...well, Genericans are already used to Chinese products from their Wal-Marting. Americans: more likely to buy Chinese cars than Korean? Also saw this Tweet from Auto Pacific below: " A staggering 40% of Gen Y are open to an auto from China, compared to 16% overall. Grew up global; to them it simply isn’t far-fetched." I know I'm more likely to pick Chinese food over Korean, though probably would pick Thai or Indian over both... but not with cars. Rob

'95 2dr Tahoe
Wow...didn't realise something like that was ever built..thought the diesels were only in the HD pickups and HD Suburbans. Cool. No barn doors, though.. Rob

Time to start trolling the lots for...
Yeah, being that old it probably had over 100k and was nickel and diming them to death. I'm sure the owners will be happier with something new. The resale value on SUVs--esp. full size ones has tanked since last summer. Rob

Under New Ownership Discussion thread
At first glance, I thought the front page was announcing Saturn was under new ownership...(whatever happened to the Penske deal, anyway?) Rob

Stars, Stripes and Spots
Saw a beige Austin America on the back of a car hauler, minty condition. Don't think I've ever seen one of those in person. Also, a bright blue (non stock) '70 Cuda w/ chrome wheels and a black stripe w/ the hood up on the side of the road...must have plorched in the 113 degree heat. Rob

Stars, Stripes and Spots
Went out at lunch...hot, sunny..car said it was 43.5C out (about 110F). Saw a goregous met. med-dark red '57 Buick ht waft by...or was it a mirage in the desert heat? So much chrome, whitewall tires, beautiful. Rob

Time to start trolling the lots for...
Yes...the notorious '99-04 Grand Cherokee driver's seat track problem bit me a week ago Sunday. The power mechanism works fine, all 8 ways..but the track metal sheared off on the left front corner and right rear corner, right below where the track bolts to the seat base. So the seat rocks side to side. I was able to get the track unbolted from the floor last night...da*mn 115 degree heat..I despise Arizona with every fabric of my soul..got to get out of this state. Now I have to unbolt the seat from the track and disconnect the wiring. Ordered a shop manual DVD. I've found salvage, working tracks for $250 on ebay, better than paying $750-1000 for a dealer to replace the entire seat and track. ARRRRGGGGHHHHHH Rob

Yeah..it is ridiculous. Just kidding about scrapping my Jeep....but having the seat track break really ticked me off.. Rob

Maybe I should do that with my Jeep. Working to fix the d*mn broken driver's seat track now. Rob

(2) 1994 Oldsmobile Custlass Supreme Convertibles
Car magazines...I distinctly remember C&D back in the day referring to them as GM-10s. Rob

(2) 1994 Oldsmobile Custlass Supreme Convertibles
I wondered about that..in the press, they were referred to as GM10s in the late '80s...don't recall seeing them referred to as W-bodies until the mid '90s. Rob
