Yes, Obama has similar appeal for me---he is closer to my age than McCain, very articulate, intelligent, a well-educated professional, computer literate and modern. McCain is of a time long ago past...he's of my mother's generation, an age group where people are enjoying retirement. He seems like a short tempered, mean old man out of touch with the modern world. As a well-traveled, well-educated upper middle class suburban professional working in an industry known for it's modernity and diversity, I find the Democratic party a better fit for my values and views...the core of the Republican Party of today--the conservatives and religious zealots that McCain/Palin pander to-- have nothing in common with my reality. The 'small town' folksy appeal and phony 'family values' talk that works with the God and guns crowd doesn't speak to me.

I bet Sarah Palin supports the AFA...seems like the kind of crowd she's follow..

Wow... a few years ago, I saw a late '90s Camry in dark green (it seems to have been a very common color) with a GT-R badge on the rear and a fart can exhaust, and NISMO decals. Still had the Toyota badging. Similarily bizzaro, I used to see in Denver occasionally a worn late '80s Chevy Camaro IROC-Z Type R (Type R badges and a Honda 'H' on the nose).. Or the Chrysler 300M Mach 1 I saw in Akron a few years ago..

I wonder how many have been sold this YTD... Update: checked the GM sales figures-- 473 H2s in Sept, about 5200 YTD. H3 was a bit more than 3 times those numbers. And 1 H3T in Sept.

No idea... interestingly, I know of a couple tiny towns in Ohio that have Tim Hortons, none here in the Phoenix area AFAIK. Speaking of Canadian chains I like, here in the Phoenix area, we have Earl's, The Keg, Boston's, and Western Pizza... the Denver area has the first 3 also.

Maybe Canada will invade us! That way we would could finally get the metric system, universal health care, and lacrosse. And widespead availability of Tim Hortons, Earls, The Keg and Western Pizza

I've been seeing a lot of new Silverados and a few Sierras lately..surprisingly quite a few around in the city. Was out for lunch today, and saw a really sharp black 4wd crew cab short bed Sierra 2500 with black custom wheels and tinted windows..really striking truck (and I'm not even a truck fan, but it turned my head). It looked very much like this one on ebay:

Today at lunch, saw a '70s Datsun B210 GX hatchback, faded blue paint but solid. Parked behind it was a very clean '82 Celebrity 4dr, dark gray w/ gray interior. I think it was a repaint, no badging. No visible rust (the ones I remember seeing in NE Ohio were all rusted out (esp. the decklids and wheel arches) by the late '80s-early '90s). Saw 2 '08 CTSes---a black one w/ tinted windows and chrome wheels, and a dark gray one.

One thing that amazes me is how solid and rattle/squeak free these cars are, even with high mileage and age ('91 300CE--114k miles, '84 500SEL--175k miles). They drive very tight.

You could do much worse...it's a very solid car. Quiet, reasonably quick, and the straight-6 is bulletproof. My sister's red '91 is in very clean shape, needs a few small cosmetics (one piece of wood interior trim and the fabric a-pillar/window frame 'molding' needs replaced, as do the visors--I bought a pair of visors from ebay for her). It's always been garaged, so the black leather interior and dash are perfect, not the usual nuked AZ interior..(it's originally a Chicago car, according to the car fax she did before she bought it 5 years ago). She bought it to replace a '91 Acura Legend coupe that was still in nice shape when she sold it.

Speaking of old Datsuns, I saw a '70s Datsun B-210 GX hatchback today..in decent shape w/ faded blue paint. There was a very clean gray '82 Celebrity parked behind it, a repaint I think (no badging). With the cooler fall weather here, I've been kickin' it old school--- enjoying driving to work in the 500SEL with the huge sunroof open... will drive the 300CE tommorow with all the windows down and the sunroof open..(no point in letting my sister's cars sit and let the batteries go dead, may as well drive them some).

Hadn't heard that..good to hear. The Malibu seems like a really solid product. I did read a 5 or 6 vehicle comparison in C&D this month of 7-passenger CUVs--the Traverse was last, the Flex next to last, and of course, the Pilot and Highlander were 1 and 2. I think the Veracruz was the other model in the comparison, in the middle.
