    A Halloween Surprise: Jeep Shows Off 2018 Wrangler

      Boo!

    We know a fair amount of information about the 2018 JL Wrangler thanks to various leaks and rumors. Now Jeep has surprised all of us on Halloween night by revealing some pictures of the 2018 Wrangler.

    It looks like Wrangler from the three photos Jeep released. We can tell the front grille is slightly flatter and a set of LED lighting on the fenders. No pictures of the interior are provided, but we're expecting some big changes including a new UConnect infotainment system.

    More details on the Wrangler will be revealed on November 29th at the LA Auto Show. But we know that a 3.6L V6 and turbocharged 2.0L will be the engines at launch thanks to a leaked owner's manual.

    Agreed, I think the Wrangler has gotten really expensive, and they used to be pretty cheap.  In today's dollars maybe not $16k, but like 20k, I bet the 2018 model starts at $25k and quickly gets over $30,000.

    Well, the current model in it's base form does include a V6, 4 wheel drive, a 6 spd manual, 16 inch wheels, a soft top, removable doors, etc all standard, in a 2dr convertible bodystyle.  Nothing else on the market offers that feature mix for $24k. 

    Every other CUV/SUV at $24k is probably a FWD 4dr, 4cyl automatic or CVT appliance..

    $16k in today's market only buys tiny FWD despair mobiles..

    So in it's base form, the Wrangler is pretty well equipped..of course, there is a huge range of trim levels and options to push the price much higher.

    Exactly. It’s the same reason Benz can get $140K for an acient G Wagon. As long as people are buying it then they will keep selling it for whatever price they can get.

    Even in base form it is probably one of the most capable off-road vehicles on sale today.  It is a niche vehicle that does one thing very well while just so-so everything else.  Same thing as Miata (starting at $25.7k), or basic F-150 or Silverado work trucks that are around $28k.

    I drove rental Wrangler recently while on vacation, it was beat up to death but it is still was a lot of fun.

    Thank you.  And that is a real 4WD system with a real low range and it is a convertible.  It is really a hell of a deal for what you get.  I realy want a 2 door 18 Rubicon.

      Honda has been surprising with their Prologue as it is a huge seller here in the U.S. GM has come on strong, but I wonder if it will last without the Android Auto and AppleCar play support. I see Kia/Hyundai/Genesis taking a solid 2nd place for 2024 in EV sales. I think they could challenge Tesla next year even if they kill off the IRA which will require both House and Senate to approve and right now, this will affect a big chunk of RED states where EV and battery production is, so those house and senate members have already said that touching IRA is a bad thing. Going to be interesting. Germans are falling and Genesis as well as Cadillac has come on strong with Luxury. I honestly see no reason to spend the extra coin for the German brands over Cadillac or Genesis.

      I think Musk is so arrogant that he thinks Tesla doesn't need any tax breaks or government help (despite building his business on them) and that if all the tax credits go away, it will hurt the legacy OEM's selling EV's more than him.   But without that $7500 discount n Tesla's they look $10k more expensive than the ICE counterparts and once that value proposition is gone I think the sales grown crawls to a halt.  And Stellantis and Nissan may be a mess, but Toyota is a juggernaut, Hyundai/Kia have good momentum, GM is looking pretty strong again, Honda does their core products well and the Germans have the luxury market sewn up.  Tesla faces a lot of competitors who aren't just going to roll over.
