New York - At the 2026 New York International Auto Show, Kia introduced the 2027 EV3, an entry-level electric SUV that brings the design language and technology of the EV9 into a smaller, more attainable package. The EV3 arrives in five trims — Light, Wind, Land, GT-Line, and GT — with a targeted on-sale date of late 2026. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.

Two Batteries, Real Range

The EV3 is built on Kia's 400V E-GMP platform with a choice of two battery options. The entry Light trim uses a 58.3 kWh pack with front-wheel drive and up to a Kia-estimated 220 miles of range. The remaining four trims step up to an 81.4 kWh battery with up to a Kia-estimated 320 miles of range in FWD configuration. All-wheel drive is optional on Wind and Land and standard on GT-Line and GT.

Output is 261 horsepower on AWD models and 288 horsepower on the GT, which adds a sport-tuned suspension and steering along with neon green brake calipers, seatbelts, and interior accents. The 58.3 kWh battery charges from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 29 minutes on a DC fast charger; the 81.4 kWh battery takes approximately 31 minutes. A native NACS port is standard, and Plug and Charge capability allows charging to begin by simply plugging in after a one-time setup in the Kia Access app.

EV9 Design Language

The EV3's exterior borrows directly from the EV9, including the star map DRL, hidden rear door handles, and flush-mounted roof rails. Standard wheels are 17-inch alloys; GT-Line and GT step up to 19-inch wheels, with the GT receiving unique 19-inch wheels to match its green caliper accents. A U.S.-exclusive Nightfall appearance package is available on certain trims, adding gloss black wheels, black emblems, bridge-type roof rails, and a dark gray interior.

Interior, Cargo, and V2L

Inside, the EV3 mirrors the EV9's cockpit with a nearly 30-inch panoramic display: dual 12.3-inch screens plus a 5-inch climate display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all trims, and the ccNC system supports over-the-air updates. Available entertainment includes Netflix and YouTube streaming, along with display themes for Disney, Marvel, the NBA, and FIFA World Cup 2026.

Cargo capacity is 26.1 cubic feet behind the second row, expanding to 56.5 cubic feet with the seats folded. The EV3 also includes a 0.9 cubic foot frunk. Rear seat backs recline up to 39 degrees. Available Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) allows the battery to power external devices; available Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) via a Wallbox bidirectional charger can return power to the home during outages. Kia's i-Pedal 3.0 one-pedal driving system is standard and now also functions in reverse.

Safety

All EV3 models include eight standard airbags including rear side airbags, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go. Available systems include Highway Driving Assist 2 and Remote Smart Parking Assist.

New York - The second-generation 2027 Kia Seltos made its North American debut at the 2026 New York International Auto Show, arriving longer, wider, and with something no competitor in the compact crossover segment can match: three distinct powertrain options.

Three Powertrains

The base engine carries over as the 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder, paired with Kia's Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). Available in LX, S, EX, and X-Line trims, it comes with front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. Step up to the X-Line and the 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder develops 190 horsepower, routed through an 8-speed automatic with standard all-wheel drive. Rounding out the lineup is a new hybrid powertrain, pairing a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Seltos HEV also introduces e-AWD, a first for Kia on a hybrid SUV, delivering on-demand rear-axle power without a traditional driveshaft. Kia is reserving HEV performance figures and pricing for a later date.

The 2.0-liter and 1.6T are targeted to arrive at dealerships in the second quarter of 2026. The HEV follows in late 2026.

Bigger and More Capable

The new Seltos grows in every dimension compared to the outgoing model, with the wheelbase increasing by 2.4 inches. That extra footprint translates into more interior space, including an inch of additional rear legroom, along with gains in headroom, shoulder room, and hip room. Cargo capacity behind the second row is an estimated 27.8 cubic feet, expanding to 64.1 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. Ground clearance rises from 7.3 to an available 8.1 inches. X-Line models add a new Multi-terrain AWD mode for light off-road use.

Styling borrows cues from Kia's flagship Telluride, including amber DRL framing the front fascia, bold angles, and available auto-flush door handles. New exterior colors include Terrain Brown, Frost Blue, and Snow White Pearl with a contrasting black roof. Standard wheels are 16-inch alloys; the X-Line 2.0L steps up to 18-inch alloys, and the X-Line 1.6T and X-Line HEV with e-AWD receive 19-inch black wheels.

Technology

Inside, the ccNC infotainment system features a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen. An optional configuration pairs it with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 5-inch climate control display, totaling nearly 30 inches of combined screens, matching what Kia offers in larger vehicles. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all trims, and the system supports over-the-air updates. Available entertainment features include streaming for Disney+, Netflix, and YouTube, along with customizable display themes for all 30 NBA teams and select Disney brands. The HEV trim uses a stalk-mounted gear selector borrowed from the Telluride and EV9, freeing up the center console for open storage.

Advanced Safety

Standard on all 2027 Seltos models is Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and front and rear Parking Distance Warning. The Seltos has been one of Kia's quieter success stories not flashy, not fast, and not the Kia Soul, but still reliably useful and consistently profitable. The second-generation 2027 Seltos arrives with the nameplate's first redesign since 2020: new K3 platform, larger footprint, and exterior styling that visually connects it to the Telluride and EV9 for the first time.

The more upright, squared-off stance borrows directly from the Telluride's recent redesign, same star map lighting signature up front, vertical tail lamps extending across the tailgate out back, and flush door handles throughout. Diagonal character lines on the flanks and a floating roofline give it more visual presence than the outgoing model. Wheel options run from 16 to 19 inches.

More Room Where It Matters

The new Seltos adds meaningful dimension. Length grows to 174.4 inches from 172.6, width to 72 inches from 70.9, and the wheelbase extends to 105.9 inches from 103.5. Kia moved the shifter to the steering column via a Shift-by-Wire system, freeing up the center console and opening up the cabin considerably. Second-row seats recline up to 24 degrees, 12 forward and 12 back, and cargo capacity comes in at 18.9 cubic feet, which Kia claims is class-leading. A foldable dual-level cargo board and the new AddGear modular accessory system add flexibility.

Powertrain

Three engines are offered globally. Kia has not announced which come to the U.S.:

• 1.6-liter T-GDI (High Output): 190 hp and 195 lb-ft, paired with an 8-speed automatic
• 1.6-liter T-GDI (Standard Output): 177 hp and 195 lb-ft, available with a 7-speed dual-clutch or 6-speed manual
• 2.0-liter naturally aspirated: 147 hp and 132 lb-ft

AWD models get a multi-link rear suspension and Terrain Mode (Snow, Mud, Sand) alongside Drive Mode Select (Eco, Normal, Sport). FWD models use a torsion beam rear.

A hybrid variant joins the lineup in 2026 with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability and Kia's Smart Regenerative Braking System 3.0, which automatically adjusts regenerative braking intensity based on navigation data and traffic conditions, though V2L may not be offered in the U.S. The Seltos will be the only Kia utility vehicle without a hybrid or plug-in hybrid option at launch.

Tech Inside

A panoramic display panel combines dual 12.3-inch screens, instrument cluster and infotainment, with a dedicated climate control panel below. A 12-inch head-up display projects driving information onto the windshield. The AI assistant is powered by generative AI (ChatGPT under the hood) for voice interaction, and over-the-air updates keep the software current without a dealer visit. Optional premium audio comes from either Harman Kardon or Bose. The interior also gets 64-color ambient lighting, a wide panoramic sunroof, and Digital Key 2 for smartphone-based vehicle access and sharing.

Highway Driving Assist 2, Lane Following Assist 2, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2, Surround View Monitor, and a full complement of parking assistance systems are included.

The Numbers Behind the Redesign

The Seltos has been Kia's fourth-bestselling crossover in the U.S. since its 2020 launch, behind the Sportage, Telluride, and Sorento. Kia CEO Ho Sung Song put the first-generation global tally at over 2 million units; the target for the redesign is 430,000 globally per year, up from 400,000.

In the U.S., Kia has been chasing 100,000 annual Seltos sales since launch without reaching it. Deliveries peaked at 60,053 in 2023, came in at 59,958 in 2024, and sat at 40,065 through September this year, toward the bottom half of the subcompact crossover segment behind the Chevrolet Trax, Subaru Crosstrek, and Honda HR-V. With the Soul winding down, the Seltos also becomes Kia's primary value entry point to the brand. The 2027 Telluride is launching in the first quarter as well, meaning Kia's largest and smallest crossovers will both be fresh at the same time.

When and How Much

U.S. deliveries begin in 2026 with no specific date confirmed. We expect to see the U.S. version released in Spring 2026 at the New York International Auto Show. The Seltos is assembled in South Korea, making it subject to U.S. import tariffs, currently 15 percent, down from 25 percent. The 2026 Seltos starts at $25,135 including shipping; 2027 pricing has not been announced. Global production begins in India in December 2025, followed by Korea, North America, Europe, and China throughout 2026.

Kia has incorporated their NVH or Noise Vibration and Harshness package to give the interior one of the quietest rides around. Available as options upgraded relation seats with leg rests, that include massage with adjustable cushioning in support of the body. Optional heated / ventilated seats available for the first and second row with optional heated seats for the 3rd row. There is also memory -enabled power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and various options for interior led lighting as just some of the many options once can add to their Telluride.

2027 Telluride brings modern connectivity to the occupants with multiple fast charging USB-C ports throughout all 3 rows. This is complimented by the standard dual 12.3-inch panoramic digital displays with OTA. Kia built in natural AI voice assistant, ultrawide band digital key 2.0 allowing for cell phone as your key fob. This allows both apple and android smartphone users to lock, unlock, remote start and so much more for their auto interaction. The digital keys can be shared with up to 3 other family members / friends and will work via Apple Watch. For those into music, there is the optional Meridian premium stereo system made up of 14 speakers and a 10-inch subwoofer.

Starting with the SX Prestige or SXP model, you get standard enhanced Full Display Digital Rear View Mirror, providing a wide, unobstructed field of view for the driver. The larger 12-inch head-up display (HUD) projects key vehicle information, including speed, turn-by-turn navigation, and safety alerts directly on to the windshield.

True connectivity in 2027 goes well beyond maps and texting. Getting home is more convenient thanks to Kia myQ Connected Garage. New York - This morning, Kia unveiled the Kia EV4 sedan at the New York Auto Show.  The EV4 sedan is set to be an exciting new entry to the EV market, potentially undercutting the price of other EV sedans currently available. Built on a the e-GMP platform, the EV4 is Kia's first global EV sedan.  Sales in the US are expect to start in early 2026.

The EV4 will arrive in three trims, Light, Wind, and GT-Line. Two battery sizes will be offered, a 58.3 kW battery pack for the Light, and an 81.4 kW pack for the Wind and GT-Line.  The longer range battery is estimated to be capable of a range of 330 miles. Light models will have a range of 235 miles. Charging the EV4 from 10-percent to 80-percent can take as little as 29 minutes (31 for the long-range). All EV4s will be equipped with an NACS charge port. All models drive with a front-mounted 150kw motor, roughly 200 horsepower. Kia didn't mention torque output, but expect it to be sufficient for this size of vehicle.

Helping with drivability and range is Kia's new i-Pedal 3.0 system that intelligently handles acceleration or deceleration using only a single pedal. Tied with the regeneration system, i-Pedal 3.0 better helps maintain and extend range.

On pavement, the EV4 benefits from advanced chassis engineering aimed at delivering a high level of ride comfort and refinement as well as engaging driving dynamics. The front suspension is defined by an EV-tuned MacPherson strut design and the rear suspension is a multi-link geometry. Key areas of the vehicle body were stiffened to further enhance the EV4’s agility and cornering prowess.

The EV4’s nearly 30-inch total combined wide-screen display – comprised of dual 12.3-inch screens and five-inch climate display – serves as the face of Kia’s connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC). This tech-forward interface sets a high watermark for the in-car content experience, with connectivity and entertainment features that may be upgraded remotely with software enhancements delivered through over-the-Air (OTA) updates. Additionally, this innovative setup enables customers to apply available display themes across the cockpit, such as their favorite NBA team, for a personalized cockpit aesthetic. The EV4 also offers wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The driver can experience a more immersive relationship with the EV4 by way of Kia’s AI Assistant. This system utilizes machine learning to achieve a higher level of organic interaction and greater voice recognition between the driver and the vehicle.

Other key comfort and convenience features include standard dual-zone automatic temperature control with rear A/C vents, acoustic windshield, and available heated/ventilated front seats13 with driver side memory and heated steering wheel.

Pricing and official option packing will be shared closer to the EV4's release next year.

New York - Kia introduced a new hatchback option to the Kia K4 lineup today at the New York International Auto Show.  Shown as a teaser at last year's New York Show, Kia said that overwhelmingly positive response has shown that the K4 Hatchback struck a cord with enthusiast and consumers.  Expected to launch in late 2025, the K4 Hatch will be available in Standard, GT-Line, and GT-Line Turbo trims.

While based on the K4 sedan, the Hatch draws its own lines with a floating roof design that seamlessly extends to the rear glass. Hidden rear door handles are integrated into the C-pillar to enhance its muscular profile. Styling up front carries over from the sedan with LED lighting treatments that are reminiscent of its big brother, the Kia EV9. GT-Line model upgrade the wheels and additional gloss-black trim and mirror caps. GT-Line Turbos will also get small cube LED projection headlamps, LED fog lights, 16-inch front brakes, and a standard power sunroof.

The K4 hatch maintains its sedan counterpart's class leading rear room and adds another inch in headroom.  The driver cockpit is dual display and spans almost 30 inches of screens. Those screens sport wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that with premium data services offer over the air updates. Heated front seats, Premium Harmon Kardon audio system, and Digital Key options are available.  The infotainment system is enhanced with AI allowing the user to say "Hey Kia" and ask a question about the user manual, suggest places to eat, play digital games, and more. 

Powering the K4 Hatchback with be either a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder producing 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque mated to an intelligently variable transmission. Also available it a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that produces 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque paired with an 8-speed automatic driving the front wheels. GT-Line and GT-Line Turbo models feature an exclusive sportier suspension for improved handling.

All K4 Hatchback models come with a suite of active safety features like lane-keep-assist and automatic emergency braking, but both GT-Line models can be optioned with Evasive Steering assist that can help avoid obstacles in certain situations and Highway Driving Assist 2, a feature that maintains distance from other vehicles and centers the K4 in its lane.

The K4 Hatchback goes on sale this fall with pricing and fuel economy numbers to be announced closer to the on-sale date.

Showcased as a Concept in Tarragona, Spain for Kia EV day, the Concept EV2 is a agile B-segment electric SUV that show cases what a production model could be for people to experience urban spaces in new immersive ways. The Concept EV2 is designed for the lifestyle-driven buyers who want cutting edge technology with a connected inspiring driving experience.

Kia stated the key exterior features of the Concept EV2:

The Concept EV2 is clearly identifiable as a part of the Kia EV Family. A clean design that projects a unique confident character as the EV2 starts off with DRLs or Daytime running lights. Kia believes they have delivered a sophisticated focus of style in a city-friendly dimension while also projecting a rugged appearance. This dynamic character on the outside continues with a dynamic interior.

The Kia Concept EV2 continued to hit above what other companies have done by stating that this B-Segment sub-compact will offer features usually found on larger class EVs.

If you were in bad weather but still wanted to have a picnic, the EV2 has a flat floor where one could fold up the rear seats, slide the front seats up against the dash and enjoy a picnic in a segment leading interior floor space. The creation of an expansive area that users can take full advantage of when parked continues with no central pillar and rear-hinged rear doors.

The Concept EV2 will have a diagonal LED lighting throughout allowing lighting to be available where one needs it for the lifestyle you want to live. Music can be played through the Concept EV2 triangle speakers found in the front doors and in strategically placed interior areas.

Concept EV2 features an innovative pop-up sliding luggage dividers and straps that secure items of all size. Kia's unique message lighting allows occupants to display text messages through the windows allowing communication with pedestrians and other road users.

Kia has since stated the EV2 will go into production globally with a launch in early 2026 in Europe and spreading out across the quarters to Asia and North America. Pricing and full options details will be released closer to launch.

Kia/Hyundai/Genesis has also announced that they will be investing 21 billion U.S. dollars in expanding their U.S. production capabilities. This will cover the following:

• The Group to invest a total of USD 21 billion in the U.S. from 2025 to 2028

Expansion of production will happen in Alabama and Georgia as well as a production of a Electric Arc Furnace steel mill in Louisiana producing 2.7 million tons of high-strength light weight steel products. This investment will expand the robust nature of their supply chain across the U.S.

This investment has a commitment that goes beyond what most companies do in that six billion will cover the following investments:

This commitment of investment is expected to generate 570,000 jobs nationwide as Kia presses on to become the dominate ICE / Hybird / EV producer in North America.

This brings it back to the question that started it all, will the public love and want the EV2?

Initially Kia introduced the PV5 versatile electric van as the Kia PBV or "Platform Beyond Vehicle", a module electric platform that could serve as a people moving van in various configurations, a cargo van for last mile deliveries or a modular truck.

Kia also has stated that the Modular PBV could be used as a driverless transportation vehicle for various types of people hauling service from Taxi like rides around a city, airport shuttles, special needs shuttle service, or company campus service just to name a few.

With such a modular system, Kia has moved forward with a Global PV5 Van that is the start of a complete PV family of electric vans for the global auto market. The PV7 will be their full-size van with greater interior space, longer driving range and enhanced functionalities for use case needs. The PV1 will be the smallest, optimized for agile, short-distance driving, transportation logistics, allowing for optimized use in the inner city.

The PV family of vans will start with the PV5 scheduled to be released mid 2025. It will come in three versions initially, Basic or passenger van, Cargo / Specialty van and Chassis cab.

Weight has always been a concern for some in regard to how heavy some EVs, especially in the Luxury segment of full-size SUVs have become with approaching 10,000 lbs. The PVB / PV5 platform is reducing weight and parts by using what they call "Dynamic Hybrid" modular body structure. This platform is a weldless body structure enabling the length of moveable members to be flexibly adjusted according to the vehicle use purpose. Comprised of high-strength tubular steel and engineered polymers, typical parts are reduced by 55 percent with no loss in rigidity. 

Kia has stated that the PVB modularity will be a huge success for their launch of the PV5. An integrated rail system on the vehicle's ceiling, floor, and side panels, as well as on the exterior, enables effortless customization of the vehicle to meet individual customer needs. This system enables seamless transfer of goods and items between vehicles, using cabinets and frames. The 'rails' within this ecosystem simplify the movement of items between vehicles, while the modular design of the 'tiles' and functional accessories, such as speakers and shelves, offer limitless flexibility for a wide range of scenarios.

The PV5 will come in the following dimensions:

• Width - 1,900mm or 75 inches
• Length - 4,645mm or 183 inches
• Height - 1,900mm or 75 inches
• Wheelbase - 2,995 or 118 inches

Kia has proven that they are ready to deliver 80% battery charge in less than 20 minutes.

Kia is pushing the bounderies as they showed off at the 2024 SEMA show their PV5 WKNDR Concept van that has been very well received by both end users and outfitters that can see using the Chassis system to build custom activity vehicles.

The available system can assist with maintaining a predetermined speed and distance from the vehicle detected ahead of you in certain circumstances. The system can also assist with steering wheel control when changing lanes (activated by the turn signal) and evasive steering assist.
• Standard Hands on Detection (HOD):  Direct HOD sensor is designed to determine whether the driver is holding the steering wheel, issuing warnings when necessary.
• Optional Parking Distance Warning:  Forward/Side/Reverse (PDW-F/S/R): Designed to provide a warning to help avoid collision with pedestrians or objects around the vehicle at low speeds.  PDW-F/R is standard.

Certain Sportage trims will be assembled in the U.S., alongside the award-winning Telluride, Sorento, and the all-electric EV6 and EV9 at Kia's West Point, Georgia manufacturing plant. Kia has been on a homerun series of hits with their ICE, Hybrid and EVs. They topped this with showing off five autos at the 2024 LA auto show, here we will focus on the newest EV9 GT and updated EV6.

2025 EV6 started by making a bold big entrance three years ago and now the mid-cycle refresh of the EV6 is here with enhanced updates front and rear, enhanced premium interior touches and newly packaged trim levels with added features and amenities.

The 2025 EV6 will be assembled along with the EV9 at the Kia West Point, Georgia's assembly plant with NACS charging port. This latest version of the EV6 will hit dealerships in the first half of 2025.

The 2025 EV6 ties in stronger to the family of EVs in incorporating Kia's signature "Opposites United" styling theme. This includes star map lighting and the interior horizontal theme with curved integrated display. It will now besides having the standard 63 kWh battery pack have an optional 84 kWh battery pack that can offer up to 319 miles of range depending on the trim. 

The 2025 EV6 will include the next-gen Connected Car Navigation Cockpit that will give OTA (over the air) updates capabilities with available digital key 2.0 that allows you to use your smartphone to lock and unlock your EV.

Hyundai unveiled their latest addition to their electric vehicle lineup with the addition of the IONIQ 9 three-row, all-electric SUV. The IONIQ 9 was revealed at the Goldstein House in LA nailing the following EV leadership qualities.

An appealing new choice for customers seeking a three-row SUV that can accommodate 6 to 7 full size adults depending on seating configuration.

The IONIQ 9 is built on the Hyundai Motor Group's E-GMP modular platform. This platform was designed to meet the needs of 21st century customers that want a hyper-connected space, while valuing personal space, privacy and relaxation. Built to Belong is the theme that the IONIQ 9 delivers in a spacious comfortable SUV that will help Hyundai solidify their leadership in the global EV market.

IONIQ 9 will have the option of being configured with relaxation seats w/footrests that allow a comfortable space during recharge stops when on the go. These Relaxation Seats feature Hyundai Motor's first Dynamic Body Care system that includes Dynamic Touch Massage. This system uses pressure and vibration to stimulate blood flow, circulation, reducing fatigue on long drives. The front and middle row seats have heating and cooling while the third row has heat only.

Total comfort is afforded by having some of the largest headroom (1,899 mm or 75 inches) and legroom (2,050 mm or 81 inches) in its class. The second row of seats comes with swivel seats allowing the second row of seats to face the third row seats.

The IONIQ 9 comes with a large amount of interior storage from the center console system that has 5.6 liters or 341 cubic inches of storage and a lower storage area that holds 12.6 liters or 769 cubic inches of storage to 620 liters or 37,834 cubic inches of storage behind the third row or with the third row folded flat a whopping 1,323 liters or 80,734 cubic inches of luggage space in the rear.

Additionally, the frunk offers 88 liters or 5,370 cubic inches in RWD form or 52 liters or 3,173 cubic inches in AWD format for additional storage.

The IONIQ 9 is all about sustainability and supports this by a wide choice of materials that the customer can choose from that includes eco process leather, recycled PET fabric, wool fabric, Bio TPO/PU skin, Bio PET/SUEDE fabric and even BIO Paint which includes paint made from recycled automotive tires.

A green open feeling is achieved the use of a sky ceiling, panoramic curved dash display, floating dashboard, slim air vents supported by a heat pump and ambient interior lighting enhancing the futuristic interior atmosphere.

Ahead of the 2024 New York Auto Show, Kia has released preview images of its new Kia K4 compact sedan, destined to take the place of the Kia Forte in the lineup. 

The all-new Kia K4 represents Kia's "Opposites United" design philosophy to bring conflicting design elements into harmony in unexpected ways. A new take on Kia's Tiger Grille moves the brand forward with a wide stance, capped with vertical headlamps to finish the edges. The silhouette sweeps back in a fastback design with an assertive look.

Inside, Kia eschews the current common practice of a driver-oriented cockpit, instead offering access to both front occupants to infotainment controls, but offering a distinct visual split to define the spaces of driver and passenger. Rather than only the typical gray or black in this class, Kia is also offering Slate Green and Canyon Brown, allowing customers more choice in interior appointments.

The Kia K4 will have a full unveiling on Wednesday, March 27th at the Javits Center in New York City.

Documents have leaked out on The Korean Car Blog that suggests the next-generation EV platform that the Hyundai Motor Group is working on will make its Kia debut under an all-electric Kia Stinger replacement called the EV8.  Code named "GT1" like the trim of the gas-powered Stinger, the new vehicle will ride on the new "eM" platform that will eventually replace the current E-GMP platform used under the Kia EV6, Kia EV9, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, and Genesis GV60. Interestingly, Kia may combine the K8, the Korea-only successor to the Kia Cadenza, and Stinger into a single model line, making this new vehicle larger than the sport-sized Stinger.  The rumors of the Kia Stinger switching to all-electric go all the way back to 2017, when the car was first released.

Arriving in late 2025, the specifications indicate a battery capacity of 113.2 kWh, roughly a 600 horsepower maximum output with dual motors in the top trim, and a targeted range of 430 - 500 miles on the European WLTP test, so approximately 400 - 450 miles using the EPA test. Lower trim models with rear-wheel drive would have roughly 218 horsepower, while a mid-range all-wheel drive model could be offered with 435 horsepower. For reference, that 113.2 kWh capacity is larger than the 99.8 kWh capacity of the Kia EV9.  The Kia EV9's range is rated by the EPA at 300 miles, impressive for a 3-row crossover, so we feel that the larger battery in a sedan would easily reach the 400-mile estimate.

The HMG eM platform will debut on the Genesis GV90 in 2025, and we will likely see an announcement later this year. Other models will include a next-gen Genesis GV80 SUV, and we would expect a new Genesis G80 sedan as well.

Review: 2018 Kia Stinger GT1 AWD

Kia unveiled the updated 2025 Kia K5 at the Chicago Auto Show, committing to keeping Kia in the family sedan market for now.  The family sedan has been on the endangered species list for a while now, but the 2025 K5 gets some updates to keep it relevant and kicking.

The Kia K5 aims to be the sedan for anyone.  Available in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and performance turbocharged models, the K5 can cover nearly all options in the mid-size family sedan market.

For starters, the base 1.6-liter turbo has been swapped out for a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine is 11 horsepower more powerful than the outgoing 1.6T and produces 181 lb-ft of torque for the front wheels. This engine is found in the LXS, EX, and GT-Line. Those who chose the GT-Line can also select the option for all-wheel drive.  The powertrain for the GT trim remains unchanged. The carryover 2.5-liter turbo produces 290 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque fed through a front-wheel drive 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. In GT trim, the K5 can scuttle to 60 in just 5.2 seconds on all-season tires.

The exterior has been updated with some very striking lightning-bolt-shaped amber daytime running lights that accentuate the leading edge of the front fender. Several new wheel designs are available by trim, and the GT gets bright green brake calipers standard. An updated rear fascia and and dramatic new tail lights round out the package.

Inside is a new single-pane curved display with a 12-inch instrument cluster and 12.3-inch infotainment unit. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard on all models. The center console has been revised with a wireless charging pad, USB-C ports front and rear, and new larger cupholders.

Tech updates include standard Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist that works at intersections and can detect cyclists. Standard or Available on EX, GT-L, and GT are Navigation-Based Smart Cruise, Highway Driving Assist, Blind View Monitor, Surround View Monitor, Parking Collision Avoidance, and more.   Standard on the EX is a Bose Premium Audio system, 10-way power driver's seat, Digital Key 2.0, and a heated steering wheel. The GT can add Digital Key 2.0 in a package group.

We get it. The last time the minivan was popular was in the mid-90s, after they had successfully shoved the faithful family station wagon off the market.  But even then, the sands of time weren't staying still. Larger crossovers were starting to come out and eat into the minivan market.  By the early 2000s, manufacturers were looking for ways to revitalize the market, and in 2004, General Motors debuted their new U-Body vans as "Crossover Vans" to widespread ridicule.

Twenty years later, Kia is giving it another go with the Kia Carnival MPV. Last year's Carnival MPV still retained some of its minivan looks. For 2025, the Carnival is built with a distinctly SUV shape; you'd be hard-pressed to tell it was a minivan until you see the location of the rear door handles, and Kia gave the Carnival a bold, upright grille and near-flat roofing, mimicking that of an SUV.  This might be enough to convince shoppers that doesn't look like a minivan.

The Kia Carnival has been one of the most luxurious minivans on the market since the nameplate's North American release in 2021. For 2025, the Carnival's cabin has been reconfigured with a new operating system that can respond to voice commands. Most commonly used controls are accessible via a swipe of the screen, but physical controls for HVAC are still there.  Voice commands can open windows, change the cabin temperature, and even recognize if the voice is coming from the front or second row. The VIP Lounge Seat package can even recline into "relaxation mode" via voice command. An optional rear entertainment system has two 14.6-inch screens that can stream video or mirror from devices via HDMI and connect to Bluetooth headphones. There are seven USB-C ports scattered throughout the cabin, two standard power ports and two more 115V inverters guarentee every device stays powered up. The seat belt buckles light up to make them easier to find in the dark, and an available rear-view camera mirror allows for unobstructed rear vision.

Carnival gains a digital key that allows drivers to use their smartphone as their key, leaving their device in their pocket.  Drivers can share the key to others over text messaging. Keeping the family safe is a new feature called Highway Driving Assist 2, which first debuted on the Kia EV6, and keeps the vehicle a set distance from the vehicle in front on certain select highways.

Under the hood, the Carnival retains its 3.5 liter V6, though very slightly down in power from last year, at 287 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque paired with an 8-speed automatic.  New for 2025 is a hybrid powertrain available on all but the base trim. With a combined output of 242 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque, the system blends a 1.6-liter turbo 4-cylinder with a 54 kW electric motor through a 6-speed automatic transmission. Both powertrains drive solely the front wheels.

Hybrid models get additional upgrades to improve performance and fuel economy. In Eco/Smart mode, the hybrid system can be set to three different levels of deceleration control, with higher levels allowing greater battery regeneration. E-Handling and E-Ride improve handling, cornering, and smooth out the ride. E-Evasive Handling Assist helps to control the vehicle's movement during emergency steering.

The 2025 Kia Carnival will be available in five trims, LX, LXS, EX, SX, and SX Prestige, while Carnival HEV will be limited to LXS, EX, SX, and SX Prestige when it hits dealer showrooms this summer.

On January 29th, 2024, South Korea reported on the EV4 from Kia Vice President Woo-Jeong Woo during a conference call. Kia plans on launching their EV3 in the first half of 2024 while the EV4 will now launch in early 2025. During the 2023 Kia EV Day in October 2023, Kia announced the launch schedules of these two. EV4 was planned to be released before the end of 2024

In the conference call, Vice President Joo stated “Electric vehicles are the biggest influence on Kia’s sales and profits. We plan to flexibly respond to market changes in the medium to long term. The EV3, EV4, and EV5 will be launched sequentially, and we are determined to make these three models successful.” Although Kia has not stated about the delay, they may be waiting to enhance EV4 quality.

From the EV3 to EV5, they will use Kia's E-GMP electrical vehicle platform. EV3 is positioned as a small SUV, the EV4 as a compact sedan, and the EV5 as a compact SUV. Kia has announced that the EV3 to EV5 will cost from around $35,000 to $50,000, respectively. An update to the Gwangmyeong Plant 2 for electric cars has been completed after eight months of work. For now, there are no details about EV4's specifications, but it is likely to be front-wheel-drive. These inexpensive vehicles may use a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a 400V system. 

The EPA has announced the various electric ranges of the Kia EV9. This new crossover SUV is Kia's flagship SUV, with various battery sizes and ranges. Kia gave the EV9 five trim levels along with two battery sizes. At the bottom of the EV9 lineup is the $56,000 Light rear-wheel-drive Light trim level. An EV9 Light utilizes a 76.1-kWh battery, good for 215 horsepower/160 kW and 258 ft-lb /339 Nm. The range for the Light rear-wheel-drive is 230 miles, or about 3.0 miles/kWh.

The Light trim level can get a larger battery pack if you want more range. The upgrade raises the price to $61,000 and increases the battery to a larger 99.8-kWh. Light Long Range models produce the same power as the regular Light, but the EPA estimates 300 miles of range. This also equals out to about 3.0 miles/kWh. 

All-wheel-drive models start with the $65,000 Wind trim. Dual motors increase power to 379 horsepower/279 kW and 443 ft-lb/603 Nm. This carries over to the $71,000 Land trim, which the EPA estimates the range around 280 miles. This equates to around 2.8 miles/kWh. Sitting at the top is the GT-Line, which bumps the torque to 516 ft-lb/702 Nm. GT-Lines do get a range penalty, at a minor 10 miles resulting in a 270-mile range. Efficiency lowers to 2.7 miles/kWh.

• EV9 Light RWD - 230 miles
• EV9 Light Long Range RWD - 304 miles
• EV9 Wind AWD - 280 miles
• EV9 Land AWD - 280 miles
• EV9 GT-Line AWD - 270 miles

Every model comes with an 800-volt architecture that supports DC fast charging. Peak charging rates can get as high as 236-kw, which can get the EV9 from 10-80% state of charge in 25 minutes. EV9 also comes with vehicle-to-load (V2L), which can charge appliances and vehicles. It also comes with vehicle-to-grid (V2G), which can send power back to the grid. Kia announced it will give a 1,000-mile credit with Electrify America.

Just last week, Kia announced that they will be joining the NACS/Tesla charging network sometime starting in Q4 2024.

Kia EV9s will go on sale later this year.

“Like Telluride, EV9 has the potential to be another ‘game changer’ for Kia, this will be the most sophisticated vehicle that we have ever built and will be a standout in the EV market and on the road. Best of all, it will be assembled in West Point, Georgia.”

Kia has announced a $200 million expansion of their West Point, Georgia assembly plant allowing production of the 2024 EV9 three-row SUV in the second quarter of 2024. Kia has stated that this will create 200 additional jobs and will be the fifth model assembled at Kia Georgia joining the Telluride, Sorento, Sportage and K5 EV.

Kia first manufacturing site in N.A. will have a annual capacity of 340,000 vehicles for their 2,200 acre campus located in West Point, GA. Kia Georgia began U.S. production on November 16th, 2009 and currently produces the Telluride, Sorento and Sportage models. They also produce the K5 mid-size EV sedan at the Georgia site with the expansion of adding the EV9 and others yet to come for U.S. production.

All Kia models are assembled from locally and globally sourced parts including the EV product line. As required by the IRA act, as production comes online in the U.S. components will be changed from global suppliers to local suppliers.

The Kia EV9, their first three-row seating electric SUV was released revealing a fresh thinking, design and technology for the sector and should spearhead the brands rapid transformation to a sustainable mobility solutions provider for the EV era. 

The EV9 is based on the Kia E-GMP or Electric Global Modular Platform and is targeted to have an all-electric range of over 541 km or 336 miles. This EV will also have an Ultra-fast 800-volt charging system allowing for 239 km or 149 miles charged in 15 minutes.

Kia will introduce their Level-3 Autonomy via Highway Driving Pilot (HDP) in GT-line trim for the first model year. 

Kia will introduce their Auto subscription via their Kia Connect Store, enabling customers to purchase digital features and services on demand, allowing them the flexibility to choose features they want with continuous upgrades to the capabilities of the EV9 via OTA or Over the Air updates at any time.

The purpose of power module-based traction inverter is to convert the DC current from the electric vehicle’s battery to AC current to be used in the electric motor to drive the vehicle’s propulsion system. Today Kia announced with Electrify America that Kia EV6 owners will have three years from date of purchase to use 1,000 kWh of complimentary charging. During this time EV6 owners can direct any questions or request guidance from Electrify America's 24-hour Customer Contact Center.

The two companies' agreement will enable Kia owners 3,500 to 4,000 miles of all-electric driving at no charging cost, depending on the vehicle model and various conditions.

Electrify America's vast DC charging network is the largest in the country, allowing high-speed charging of up to 350 kilowatts (kW) for capable vehicles. Kia customers will access the advanced charging network through the Electrify America Mobile app. An enrollment code for the app is provided through the owner's portal of the Kia Access App after the EV6 owner enrolls into the Kia Connect, the brand's robust in-car telematics system.

Kia EV6 First Edition introduces the world to all-unifying all-new "Opposites United" design language delivering crossover functionality. Combing classic sports car with high tech cues, modern CUV styling and couple-like profile is the visual language Kia brings to the EV game.

The EV6 rolls on a 114.2 inch wheelbase, the same as the Kia Telluride and comparable in width of a Ford Mustang Mach-E and the ground clearance of a Tesla Y.

Enabling jaw-dropping performance, AWD capability, ultra-fast charging times is what this BEV platform enables. Estimated up to 300 miles of electric range for RWD models, V2L functionality and flat floor interior utilizing sustainable materials throughout the cabin. The first EV6 models will go on sale early 2022 in all 50 states with the GT arriving in late 2022.

  • RWD will use a 160 kW motor yielding 218 horsepower.
  • AWD will use a 70 kW front motor paired with the 160 kW rear motor for a yield of 313 horsepower.
    • Estimated 0 to 60 performance of 5.1 seconds.
• AWD GT model will use a 160 kW front motor and 270 kW rear motor yielding 576 horsepower.

Battery charging embraces both 400-V and 800-V charging systems. When using an 800-V system, 70 miles of range can be added in less than 5 minutes. Up to 210 miles (10 to 80%) added in under 18 minutes. An on-board 11 kW charger (OBC) allows Level 2 recharging from 10 to 100% in about 7hrs.

Vehicle to Load (V2L) functionality allows the EV6 to be a power source, providing power to computers, home improvement project, tailgating and even camping. Customers will find both inside the auto and using the adapter outside 110V outlet. With a full batter, power can be drawn from the auto for 36 plus consecutive hours. Vehicle to Vehicle charging is capable at a 1.1 kW charge, equal to being plugged into a 110V outlet.

The EV6 is a modern eco-friendly cabin having both standard and available upgrades as follows:

• Extensive use of recycled plastic throughout interior.

HDA2 will additionally assist with lane changes and adjust the lateral position of the car within the lane

Power to Progress is the tag that Kia has for the EV6 as this is a global collaborative effort between Namyang Korea, Frankfurt Germany and Irvine California USA design studios.

At the front, characteristic daytime running lights display a sleek, modern appearance. They form part of the car’s ‘Digital Tiger Face’, a design progression evoking the spirit of Kia’s ‘Tiger Nose Grille’ for the electrified era. One of the most striking elements of the new interior is a seamless high-tech curved high-definition audio visual and navigation (AVN) screen. The simple form language of the wide curved screen and the slim dashboard give the space an open feel. When Kia revealed the new Soul to the U.S. in 2018, they announced that the EV would be arriving sometime a year later. 2019 came and the automaker announced that the Soul EV had been pushed back to 2020. A few months later, the launch date was pushed to 2021. Now, an internal source at Kia's U.S. office has revealed to Roadshow that the Soul EV isn't coming at all.

According to the source, a number of factors played into this decision. Some of the factors such as limited supply of batteries and motors, along with increased demand for the model Europe were used to explain the last delay. Also, the Soul EV has independent rear suspension. The standard Soul doesn't, which would make the EV more expensive to bring to the U.S. and add complexity. 

Adding fuel to the fire, Kia has removed any mention of the Soul EV on their U.S. consumer and media sites. There is also no mention of the Soul EV on the EPA site. Previously, the vehicle was mentioned with a range of 243 miles.

When reached by Roadshow, a Kia spokesperson said they haven't heard anything about the Soul EV being canned for the U.S., but did confirm they have "no pending plans to introduce before 2021 at the earliest."

The Kia K5 was unveiled in South Korea last month, but now we have some technical details to go with it. It sounds like Kia will ditch the Optima name in the U.S. and go with the K5 name used in South Korea going forward.

The engine selection is similar to that of the Hyundai Sonata.  There will be a 1.6-liter turbo 4-cylinder with 178 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft of torque. There will also be a 2.5 liter naturally aspirated and direct injected 4-cylinder that produces 191 hp and 181 lb.-ft of torque. The bigger news is that the Kia K5 GT will also get the 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder going into the Sonata N-Line, that motor produces 286 hp and 311 lb.-ft of torque. That final engine is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and should get the sedan from 0-60 in 6.6 seconds. Sometime in the future, a hybrid version of the car will be released, but Kia isn't going into detail on that just yet.

Probably the biggest news for the K5 is that it will gain an all-wheel drive system that can shift power to the rear axle based on road conditions and driver input. It should be noted that the Sonata doesn't get an all-wheel drive option, so this gives the Kia a point of distinction over its cousin.

The K5 has a sporty exterior with a wide tiger nose grille running the entire width of the vehicle. New headlights with a 'heart beat' daytime running light feature flank both sides. The stance of the K5 is said to lean forward with a rakish windshield and sloping roof.  In the rear is a dual exhaust system and integrated spoiler along with a LED light bar.  Wheels start at 16-inches and range up to 19-inches on the GT.

The K5 is 193.1 inches long, longer than its predecessor, it's also lower and wider.  Wheelbase grows by 1.8-inches. 

The cabin is all new with fancy new seats and a flat bottom steering wheel. There is an availabe infotainment system that sports a 10.25-inch screen while an available gauge cluster is fully digital and 12.3 inches complimented by an 8.0-inch heads up display. Some models of K5 will get a rotary gear selector while others get a more traditional T-Shifter.

The K5 will have a bunch of driver assistance technologies including forward collision avoidance assist, blind-spot monitoring and assist, smart cruise control, driver attention warning, and highway driving assist.  Also available is a Level 2 semi-autonomous driving system and a remote park assist that will allow users to move their vehicle forwards or backwards with a key fob in order to get into or out of a tight parking spot.

The 2021 Kia K5 goes on sale in the first half of 2020.

After a fairly clear teaser image last month, the South Korean market Kia K5 has been unveiled. Kia hopes to make the same splash that Hyundai did with the mechanically similar 2020 Sonata.  While this K5 is in Korean domestic market spec, we're fairly certain that the North American Optima will look virtually identical to this K5.

The K5 may look like a hatchback similar to the Volkswagen Arteon or Buick Regal, but it is still in fact a sedan, the swoopiness of the car accentuated by the frameless windows.  The new K5 is bigger than the outgoing Kia Optima by about 2 inches in length, and widened nearly an inch.   Wheelbase has also been lengthened about 1.8 inches. 

In Korean spec, the base model will come with 16-inch wheels while 17, 18, and 19-inch upgrades are available. The interior hasn't been revealed yet, but a concept sketch shows a more upmarket interior with large LCD screens. 

Powertrains for the U.S. will likely mirror those of the Hyundai Sonata with a 191 horsepower 2.5 liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder or an upgrade to a 1.6-liter turbo-direct-injection with 180 horsepower and a wide torque band maxing out at 195 lb.-ft. 

The K5 goes on sale in the Korean market in December.

Kia's styling lately has been on a good run with the handsome Kia Telluride, the Kia Stinger, and the new Kia Soul.  Next up looks to be the redesigned Kia Optima. Though the current model is only 4 years old, Kia is looking at a major redesign for 2020-2021 in the Korean market where it is dubbed the K5.

The company released a series of concept photos to show the direction in styling they are aiming for. The flowing lines give the car a couple like silhouette, while a larger, blunter "tiger nose" grille takes up most of the front.  The running lights take on a Z shape like on the larger Cadenza and the headlamps merge into the wide front grille. Around back is a trunk lid with a small lip of a rear spoiler and full-width tail lamps. A chrome strip runs from the base of the A-pillar, up and along the roofline and then down under the rear window glass. 

Inside is a fully digital instrument cluster and a minimal number of buttons and dials on the center stack. The standard style gear shifter has been replaced with a rotary selector. 

We don't know when the actual reveal will be, but it can't be that far away, perhaps at the Los Angeles Auto Show coming up in November. 

The first Kia Stinger in the UK, a homologation test car, was saved from the crusher.  As a pre-production car, it couldn't be sold to the public.  As it sat in Kia's headquarters showroom, the Product and Press relations team were scheming up ways to keep the HiChroma Red GT S.  After all, during its testing, it has racked up 10,000 miles, an unusually high amount for a test mule. 

Instead of being sent to the crusher, Kia brought in an engineering team from Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany. The team upgraded the Twin Turbo V6 from 365 hp to 422 hp and peak torque from 376 lb-ft to 413 lb-ft.  They replaced the exhaust with a lightweight Milltek Sport exhaust with cats removed. An upgraded transmission cooler was added. and the transmission was recalibrated for quicker shifting in Sport and Sport+ mode. The team then "Added lightness" to the car by removal of all unneeded weight. Interior trim, airbags, engine cover, rear bumper beam were all removed. The rear windows were glued in place and lightweight door cards added.  After the needed safety equipment and underbody stiffening were installed, the net weight reduction came to about 331 lbs off the stock car. 

Once the mechanical modifications were complete, the  team added a Stillen front splitter and a rear spoiler, and a body wrap that advertises the racing specs and the GT420 name. 

There are no plans to build such a car from Kia, but it is an interesting study of what can be done with a car that is otherwise headed to the crusher. 

In Delhi, India today Kia has taken the wraps off their tiny SUV calling it the Seltos.  While this model signals Kia's entry into the Indian market, it is highly likely that the Seltos will be sold in the U.S.  Kia is planning a massive launch in India with the most dealerships ever seen for a new brand entry.  

The Seltos is essentially a production version of the Kia SP Signature Concept that debuted in March of 2019. While it is a small crossover, the Seltos design affords a sporty look with a relatively long hood and strong character lines. LED lights surround the exterior. In the Indian market, the Seltos comes with 16", 17", or 18" wheels, however the US market model may skip the base 16" wheels. 

Depending on the market (read: the U.S. isn't getting the diesel), the Seltos is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder making about 175 horsepower, a 2.0 liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder making 147 horsepower, or a 1.6 liter diesel with 134 horsepower. Transmission choices are a 7-speed dual clutch, a 6-speed auto, or a CVT.   The driver can select different powertrain modes of normal, ECO, and Sport. 

Inside the Kia's UVO infotainment system is there with a 10.25 inch screen that feature split screen ability to display up to 3 different applications on the screen at the same time. Unfortunately, we don't have any images of the interior yet. But it does come with a "Sound Mood Lighting" option with 6 themes and 8 colors that synchronizes to the beat of the music. 

The Kia Seltos will be built in India and Korea.

Sometimes sibling rivalries work.  Such is the case with Hyundai and Kia.  Hyundai unveiled the tiny crossover Hyundai Venue this month at the New York International Auto Show.  Once it hits the market, it will be the shortest crossover available.  One of the downsides of the Venue and its main rival the Nissan Kicks is the lack of all-wheel drive.  Even Kia's own Soul does not have all-wheel drive.

Kia, with an eye on the Venue, is looking for its own small crossover, but with all-wheel drive capability.   They recently showed the Kia SP Signature Concept which shares its dirty bits with the next generation of the Hyundai Creta, a small SUV only sold overseas. Still larger than the Venue, this model is likely to see production for the US market under the Kia badge.   The timeline for such an introduction is still uncertain, but it could happen as soon as the Los Angeles Auto Show late in 2019.

Kia unveiled two SUV concepts at the Seoul Motor Show this week.  Both concepts preview design directions for the brand.

First up is the Kia Masterpiece (Shown Above and right).  Sporting a profile similar to the Kia Telluride, the Masterpiece is a take on a more rugged SUV.  The front end shows off a new variation of Kia's Tiger Nose grille that extends outwards across the entire of the concept with 12 vertical bars in a Hummer-like fashion. The body has been raised and it has a strong all-wheel drive system to match its go-anywhere looks. 

Secondly is the Signature Concept (Shown Below). This is an update to the Kia SP Concept that was seen late last year and is slated to come to the US at some point.  Kia says that this concept is nearly production ready and the production version will be revealed later in 2019.  Up front, the Tiger Nose grille connect to thin LED lamps. Its strong shoulder line, with a glasshouse which tapers towards the rear of the car, lends the compact SUV an air of understated sportiness.

The EPA has released the estimated range rating for the 2020 Kia Soul EV and the results look good.  With its 64 kWh battery, the Kia Soul EV should be able to travel 243 miles on a single charge.  That's down 15 miles from the more aerodynamic Hyundai Kona EV with the same battery and up 4 miles from the slightly larger and heavier Kia Niro EV.  It also manages to beat the Bolt EV with its 60 kWh battery and the Nissan Leaf E+ with its 62 kWh battery.  Most importantly, it handily beats the 111 mile range the 2019 Kia Soul Electric was capable of.

The Soul EV is capable of using DC fast charging to get to 80% charge in as little as an hour.  Level 2 charging from empty will take 9 hours, while charging on a standard household plug will take 59 hours from zero.  Buyers of the Kia Soul EV will want a Level 2 charger at their house. 

The Soul EV packs an electric motor rated for 201 HP and 291 lb-ft of torque, a substantial upgrade from the prior model's 109/210 respectively. 

While we don't have pricing yet, we do know that the Soul EV will be a limited release model, selling mostly to drivers in California.

Kia's car-heavy lineup has been hurting them in terms of sales as consumers want more truck and utilities. Through September, Kia sales in the U.S. dropped 1.3 percent to 452,042 vehicles. But Kia CEO Han-Woo Park tells Automotive News that he expects "our performance in the U.S. market to rebound soon."

This will be due in part to two new crossovers arriving next year; the Telluride next Spring, followed by a new subcompact crossover in the second half. The subcompact crossover will be based on the SP Concept that debuted at India's Auto Expo in March. Production of the U.S. version will take place in South Korea.

Park said Kia would consider other crossover models and possibly a small truck, though there are no plans for the latter.

"It's not an easy market, the pickup market in the U.S.," he said.

Back at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, Kia rolled out the Niro EV concept. Aside from the wild design cues, the Niro EV concept featured a 150 kW (201 horsepower) electric motor and 64 kWh battery pack. Range was estimated at 231 miles. 

Just a couple of days ago, Kia revealed the production version of the Niro EV. Unsurprisingly, the electric version doesn't look significantly different from the hybrid/plug-in hybrid Niros. The only changes are a closed-off, body-colored grille with a door for charging port; faux grilles on the front and rear bumpers, and LED foglights.

The Niro EV features Kia's new electric powertrain that includes an electric motor with a 64 kWh lithium-polymer battery pack. Overall range is estimated at 450 kilometers (about 280 miles) on the World Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP). Expect the EPA estimate to be slightly lower. There will also be 39.2 kWh battery available that is said to offer a range of more than 300 kilometers.

We expect to have more details on the Niro EV such as power ratings and a release timeframe when the Niro EV debuts at the Paris Motor Show in September.

Due to receive its European debut at the Paris Motor Show in October 2018, the sporty and versatile Niro EV combines driving enjoyment with eye-catching design and functional utility.
 
Designed at Kia’s design centres in California, USA and Namyang, Korea, the Niro EV incorporates the practicality and appeal of a compact SUV, in a sleek, aerodynamic body with subtly sculptured surfaces.
 
Taking inspiration from the Niro EV Concept unveiled at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the Niro EV features an exclusive radiator grille, futuristic air intake and arrowhead-shaped LED daytime running lights. With a ‘Clean and High-tech’ design concept, the slim character line and tapered rear windows emphasize the car’s sleek profile, while allowing greater room for the Niro EV’s muscular wheel arches.
 
The Niro EV is powered by Kia’s next-generation electric vehicle powertrain, using new production technologies developed specifically for Kia EVs. Equipped with a high-capacity 64 kWh lithium-polymer battery pack, the Niro EV will be able to drive over 450 km* on a single charge with zero emissions, or more than 300 km* on an optional 39.2 kWh battery system.
 
The Niro EV demonstrates the considerable steps Kia has made over recent years to deliver comfortable, fun-to-drive vehicles that lead the way in zero emissions motoring.
 
The Niro EV will go on sale in Korea during the second half of 2018 and introduced to other markets in due course.

While automakers are going crazy in terms planning new crossovers, Kia is showing some restraint. Speaking with Wards Auto, Orth Hedrick, vice president of product planning for Kia Motors America said the company doesn't see an opportunity to introduce an A-Segment crossover.

“I don’t think we see an opportunity there. We have a lot of coverage in the marketplace now, and that is not a priority at this point. I think we would see more opportunity in C-segment (CUVs) then we would in A- or B-(segment models),” said Hedrick.

Kia will also not join Hyundai with entering the pickup truck market.

“It’s a big step to take and I think it’s a major commitment.” 

Hedrick points out that Nissan and Toyota have had issues in trying make a dent into the stronghold of large pickups by Ford, GM, and Ram.

"It’s a fierce battle. You have to go into it eyes wide open,” said Hedrick.

One interesting tidbit from Ward Auto's piece is that Kia is considering doing something similar to Hyundai's N performance sub-brand.

If you were hoping that Kia would bring over the Stonic crossover as an alternative to the upcoming Hyundai Kona, we have some bad news. A Kia representative told Autoblog there are no current plans for selling the Stonic in the U.S. This is a bit surprising as the U.S. has gone crossover crazy and automakers are beginning to fill out their lineups with models of varying sizes.

Autoblog throws out the suggestion that the Stonic could cannibalize the sales of the Soul and upcoming Rio (which the Stonic is based on). We would also throw in the Niro crossover as it's about the same size as the Stonic (both are considered subcompacts). But there might be another reason. Kia may be watching closely how its sister brand, Hyundai does with Kona. If sales are ok in the U.S., then Kia might make plans to sell the Stonic. Note, we're only guessing this might happen because of 'current' appearing in the representative's answer.

Hyundai-Kia's performance head said there is more performance to be unlocked in the Stinger, but it isn't going to happen anytime soon.

“The car technically has more potential no doubt, but at this point there is no plan to do more,” said Albert Biermann to Motoring.

“We have to launch this car and see how it does in the market place. What kind of customers do we get? What would be their next requirement from Kia? I think first we need to establish some sort of customer base of these kinds of cars and then maybe next steps can happen. But we need to do this carefully. Step by step."

In the meantime, Biermann suggested that Kia could do GT variants of existing models - think changes to the exterior, suspension, and powertrain. We know there are GT versions of the Optima and Rio in the cards. Once this happens, Kia might consider hopping up the Stinger.

“At a later stage, when the GT is more established into a stronger sub-label within Kia, then maybe at some point we need a GTR or something,” said Biermann.

“But for now there is nothing going on.”

Even though it was launched a week ago, there is already about possible powertrains for the Kia Stinger.

Spencer Cho, Kia’s overseas product marketing boss told Car and Driver that Stinger would benefit from the electrification options developed for the Optima, despite the different powertrain layouts - Optima uses a transverse layout, while the Stinger uses a longitudinal layout.

“We can utilize the currently available hybrid, plug-in-hybrid, and EV technology” for the Stinger’s benefit, said Cho.

While there are no immediate plans to do an electric Stinger, Cho said they could develop one very quickly. The development team behind the Stinger have considered this possibility and looked into ways to perform this change. One idea was to use transmission tunnel for battery storage.

“We don’t have any EV in the plan yet, but we have the capability to bring EVs in the near future if the demand is there, based on market reception. The global EV market is still small, but it is getting bigger and bigger due to CAFE in the U.S. and European emissions standards,” said Cho.

I have full confidence in our engineers and if we need the EV Stinger to come to light, our engineers can come up with ideas for putting the batteries into this vehicle.”

Only a few months after we got the first spy shots of the upcoming Kia GT on U.S. soil, a leaked photo showing the production GT without any camouflage has come out.

Kia-World.net got their hands on this photo which shows a pre-production GT sitting in one of Kia's factory. The design is toned down from the 2011 GT Concept, but the key details are here - similar roofline, vents on the hood, and taillights that extend into the rear fenders. It is expected that the GT will feature a turbocharged 3.3L V6 - introduced in the 2018 Genesis G80 Sport - along with a turbo-four.

Kia-World says the GT will be called the K8 in Korea.

No word on when Kia will show off the production version.

Kia had an interesting powertrain concept on the floor of the 2014 Paris Motor Show. Revealed in the Optima T-Hybrid, the powertrain paired a 1.7L turbodiesel four-cylinder with a 48v electric supercharger. This worked in conjunction with a 48V starter/generator that turned it into a mild hybrid. Kia said this powertrain would cut emissions and fuel consumption for any vehicle by 15 to 20 percent. Since showing this powertrain, Kia has been hard at work on this project

But then the Volkswagen diesel emission scandal hit and it has caused many automakers, Kia included, to rethink projects involving diesel engines. Speaking with Autocar, Hyundai-Kia's performance development boss Albert Biermann said it's becoming harder to justifying the costs to develop next-generation diesel engines in light of the Volkswagen mess and stricter emission standards.

“The research project is still going on, but the cost of electric motors and batteries in a hybrid is already significant. The question is whether it is really necessary to throw in a more expensive diesel engine.”

If Kia decides to scrap the diesel part of this powertrain, their efforts will not go to waste. Biermann said this system could be re-engineered for a gas engine.

Kia is planning to follow Hyundai with offering a range of performance models around the world. However, Kia isn't planning to make them as hardcore as Hyundai's upcoming N models.

Hyundai and Kia’s performance development boss Albert Biermann tells Autocar that Kia's GT models will differ Hyundai's N models as they aren't designed to be taken on a racetrack. This means GT models will likely not see such tech as an electronically controlled limited slip differential that will be coming on the European-market i30 N Plus. What they will see is improvements in terms of performance, handling, and looks.

Biermann admits that “GT is not right for all Kia models," but most of Kia's mainstream lineup will likely see a GT variant. Some of the models likely to get a GT variant include the next-generation Rio, Optima, and the next-generation ProCeed (unrelated to the Forte compact).

"The Ceed GT is a very balanced car, but we are a few years further down the road, and if we were to engineer it now it would have some more spice to it.”

Biermann also revealed that standard Kia models will get different chassis settings from their Hyundai brethren as a way to differentiate them.

“Kia is meant to be more emotional than Hyundai and we have to make cars that reflect that when you drive them,” said Biermann.

The long-rumored and talked-about rear-drive Kia GT is coming soon and we have learned a little bit more information about it.

Speaking with Australian outlet Motoring, Kia Australia COO Damien Meredith let out some interesting bits of information.

“We can’t wait for CK. It will be here in the third quarter of next year, in two specifications priced from about $40,000 AUD," said Meredith.

CK is the codename for the upcoming rear-drive sedan which according to Motoring is called Stinger. Meredith did confirm the Stinger would use a 3.3L biturbo V6 with 362 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque as its top engine. Most likely the base engine will be the 3.8L V6 with 311 horsepower. The platform that underpins the current Hyundai Genesis (soon to be the Genesis G80), will be used here.

For Australia, Kia is planning to aim the Stinger at buyers who would have bought the Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon.

“It’s perfect timing. CK will arrive just before the unfortunate demise of Australian car manufacturing, and it will appeal to the same buyers in that segment. It’s a great opportunity for us,” said Meredith.

The Kia Soul is one the popular models in their lineup. But even more popular are the Soul ads with hamsters (Kia would like you to call them Hamstars). Recently, Kia unveiled a new ad with the Hamstars and the Soul EV (with others to follow). But the automaker slipped something towards the end of the ad of a new powertrain option.

In the closing frames, Kia has an overview of the Soul lineup with Gas, Electric, and Turbo. Turbo? Right next to it is 'Winter 2016'. Very sneaky Kia.

Rumors of a turbocharged Soul have been flying around for a few years now, but this could be first real indication of it. What could be under the hood of the Soul Turbo? Car and Driver speculates it might be the turbocharged 1.6L four-cylinder used in the Forte Koup and Forte5. The engine produces 201 horsepower.

We could count on our fingers on the stories saying the Kia GT will go into production since it was first shown as a concept back at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. But we had no hard evidence to show it was really coming, it was mostly hearsay. But an eagle eye spy photographer caught the first spy shots of the GT.

How do we know its the GT? The Audi A7-like roofline gives it away. We can pull out some other details such as similarly shaped headlights like the GT concept and large air intakes. Around back is a set of quad exhaust tips, which Motor Trend speculates this prototype has the new twin-turbo 3.3L V6 with 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque.

The production version of the GT will likely retain a rear-drive layout, possibly using the platform underpinning the Hyundai Genesis (soon to become the Genesis G80).

Rumor has it that Kia could premiere the production GT at this year's Paris Motor Show.

Kia has been trying to position itself as the sporty brand to help differentiate it from sister brand Hyundai with mixed success. But a report from Reuters says Kia is working on something that should give it the sporty image it has been desiring.

According to two sources, Kia is working a rear-drive sports sedan to compete against the likes of the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Codenamed CK, the model will feature three different engine options and will begin production next May.

As Kia has no luxury brand, it is trying to position itself as a sporty brand," a source tells Reuters.

Kia hopes the new sedan is able to replicate the massive success of the Soul.

"Kia hit a home run with the Soul - they figured out how to keep it fresh and fun," said Dave Sullivan, product analysis manager for AutoPacific.

"Apply this formula to a rear-wheel drive sedan and they might be able to go after a younger consumer who is bored with the played-out BMW 3-Series but wants to move out of their Soul they have had since college."

The new sports sedan would be the first one to come out of either brand. But Kia will be facing an uphill battle as Genesis - Hyundai's new luxury brand - is also working a compact sports sedan known as G70.

The past few years have seen Kia show off some sports car concepts and many have been wondering if Kia would actually build one. Well according to Autocar, Kia will be doing just that.

Kia UK boss Paul Philpott revealed that the Korean automaker will launch a new sports car “by the end of the decade”. Not many details about this new car are known since it is still in the planning stages. What is known is that the new model will take ideas from the GT and Stinger GT4 concepts, and not be based on any other Kia model.

This comes at an interesting time since earlier in the week, Hyundai President & CEO Tony Whitehorn told Autocar that they don't have any plans to build a sports car.

“Not many people make money out of sports cars. The sports car market is shrinking dramatically, and even firms with heritage and a great product are struggling. Aside from the Audi TT and Mazda MX-5, it is a tough place to be,” said Whitehorn.

The Kia GT concept was quite the stunner at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, receiving many praises from journalists and industry folks. Since then, there have been murmurs of Kia possibly sending the GT into production or not. A new report from Edmunds says the GT has been given the go ahead.

Speaking with Kia executives at the Paris Motor Show, Edmunds learned that GT has been given the green light and will be in U.S. showrooms by the end of 2016. The production will lose out on the suicide doors, but keep the turbocharged 3.3L V6 and eight-speed automatic. Europe is expected to get a version of the GT as well with a diesel engine.

Kia made a big splash with the GT Concept at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. With its distinctive coupe styling and a turbocharged 3.3L V6, the GT Concept got a lot of love. Now a new report from Auto Express says that the GT may have been given the greenlight.

“We have plans to build a GT – we spoke about it at our global marketing conference in Singapore. We’ll be mainly targeting the end of 2016 or early 2017,” said Soon-Nam Lee, Kia’s vice-president of overseas marketing.

Now Auto Express reports that the GT will carry the four-door coupe shape as seen on the concept, but will likely use front-wheel platform and not a rear-drive one. We don't know much more than that.

As we were expecting, Kia told its dealers this week that the K9/Quoris flagship sedan will be coming to the U.S. in early 2014. The flagship will wear the K900 nameplate (WHY?!) and have a marketing blitz during the 2014 Super Bowl according to dealers.

The K900 will be Kia's first rear-wheel drive sedan sold in the U.S. and become the brand's flagship. It will come with the choice of either a V6 (likely the 3.8L with 290 horsepower) and V8 (likely the 5.0L Tau V8 from Hyundai with 420 horsepower). An eight-speed automatic transmission is expected to come as well.

Pricing wasn't disclosed, but rumors have pointed to a price range between $50,000 to $70,000. As Don Hobden, chairman of Kia's national dealer council put it, the K900 is "a 7-series value for a 5-series price."

Kia also told its dealers that the K900 rollout will begin at dealerships on the West Coast, in New England, and Florida before going on sale nationwide. Dealers will undergo special training and buy special items for their showrooms. This sounds very familiar when Hyundai launched the Equus.

The folks at Automotive.com got their hands on some interesting information concerning what's in store for Kia.

We'll start with the Quoris, Kia's large, RWD flagship sedan. We've been hearing that this model would be coming to the U.S., but a date hasn't been given. Until now. According to a Kia offical, the Quoris is expected to arrive on our shores sometime next year. The Quoris was expected to come sooner, but with Kia introducing seven refreshed models this year, the decision was made to push it off next year.

Also in the cards is a minivan. Kia brought back the 2012 Sedona as a 2014 model with some new features and emissions equipment. But the current Sedona is going on eight years and is desperate for a replacement. Reportedly, Kia was working on a new minivan that took some ideas from the 2011 KV7 concept. However, problems have arisen.

When asked about what the future holds for the Sedona, a spokeperson said “Wait ’til the end of the year” for an announcement about it.

What Car? recently had the chance to chat with Kia U.S.' design chief Tom Kearns at the New York Auto Show this past week. Kearns revealed that the company is considering a model to compete with the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ.

"We have made a model of an affordable, two-seat, rear-wheel-drive coupe," said Kearns.

Insiders at Kia have reportedly said if the company decides to go forward with this idea, it could make Kia a more ' aspirational and emotional brand.'

Kia could be producing production versions of the the GT Concept (shown at 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show) and the Provo Concept (2013 Geneva Motor Show).

Auto Express talked Kia Motors Europe’s VP of Marketing and Product Planning, Benny Oeyen. Oeyen said the they're looking at producing a coupe version of the GT Concept.

“The GT is close to being approved and going into production, but, as with all our cars, they have to be developed on a sound financial footing,” said Oeyen.

As for the Provo, Oeyen said the company is very keen on producing a production model. The model would be based on the same platform as the Rio and become Kia's halo model for small cars.

“The provo is a possible niche we can venture into. Our brand is currently rational, but there’s space for a B-Coupe. We will now do some market research to see if people would buy it – it has to make financial sense,” said Oeyen.

Kia hasn't had a flagship since the unloved Amanti left years ago. Since that time, Kia has been looking what could take the place of it. The answer could be the new Cadenza which has been caught in spy pictures undergoing some hot weather testing.

Looking the past the camouflage Kia has used on this mule, the Cadenza looks to be a slightly larger Optima sedan, with a similar shape in the windows, profile, and nose.

Also, there are some pictures of the interior which include stitched dash cover, central clock, chrome accents, and a large screen for the infotainment system.

The Cadenza will be mechanically similar to the Hyundai Azera, so that means a 3.3L V6 producing 293 HP and a six-speed automatic.

The Cadenza will likely carry a base price somewhere in the mid to high $30s and come out sometime next summer as a 2014 model.

Kia is considering a new four-door coupe to compete with the Mercedes-Benz CLS.

According to Auto Express, the new vehicle will likely be a more conservative version of the GT Concept that was shown at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. The vehicle is expected to keep the GT Concept's silhouette, but the sucide doors and fins next to the headlights are gone.

Power will likely come from a range of gasoline, diesel and hybrid engines that will send power to the rear wheels. At the moment, the only rear-wheel-drive platform Kia has access to is the one used on the Hyundai Genesis. Unless Kia is developing their own RWD platform, expect the Genesis platform to be used.

“We’ll have to wait until at least 2016 before the four-door coupé arrives, but when it does it will mark Kia out as a genuine cut-price rival to the German premium brands, and be the crowning glory of Schreyer’s revamped line-up,” a source told the magazine.

A few weeks ago, Kia released some teaser sketches of their new K9 RWD flagship. The sketches revealed a lot of BMW influence along with some cues from the Optima and GT Concept.

Now, two videos showing a uncloaked Kia K9 running around South Korea have appeared.

The videos show the K9's design having a lot of BMW influence. The side profile of the K9 looks like a 7-Series. The comparison of the 7-Series continues with the back end. The front end is a mix of 5-Series GT and Kia's GT Concept.

The new K9 will use the Hyundai Genesis' platform and likely share engines.

The K9 will go on sale in South Korea later this year.

Kia's stunning GT concept, shown at this years Frankfurt Motor Show has been given the green light for production. But that's not all; sources inside Kia tell Inside Line that the company is mulling over a coupe and wagon.

But why is Kia sending the GT into production? Well a comment from Kia's Chief Designer, Peter Schreyer gives us a clue.

“Every company needs a halo car... The coupe market is dominated by German brands, and the GT is Kia’s first step. It’s like putting a foot in the door of the club.”

The GT would be presented as a less expensive alternative to the German counterparts, much like Kia's sister company, Hyundai does with their Genesis and Equus sedans.

The current Kia Forte is a nicely styled and nicely priced compact car. However, when the Forte in the same group as the Ford Focus, Hyundai Elantra, and Chevrolet Cruze, it seems to be forgotten.

But Kia isn't giving up. If these sketches from Kia World are to be believed, the next Forte will be noticed. The sketches show the next Forte borrowing heavily from the styling of the Kia Optima.

The next Forte is expected to shown sometime in 2012.
