It is no secret that Mazda is planning to bring over the turbocharged 2.5L four-cylinder from the CX-9 and Mazda6, considering the various leaked documents that have come out in the past few months and the announcement of the Japanese market version. Now, new documents have come to light revealing that the U.S. variant will get the turbo engine, along with some other key changes. The leaked "Product Information Bulletin" reveals the turbo engine (227 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque) will be available on two new trims - Grand Touring Reserve and Signature. Somewhat surprising, the engine will not be available on the Grand Touring like on the 6. All-wheel drive will be standard for the turbo engine. Mazda will also be adding an updated G-Vectoring Control Plus system (uses the braking system to keep the car stable when exiting a corner), and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for Touring and models above. What is somewhat surprising is no mention of the 2.2L turbodiesel in the document, despite the EPA fuel economy figures coming out. Maybe Mazda got cold feet and has decided to pull the plug or that the 2.5T threatens the diesel as it produces the same amount of torque. This is just speculation on our part and maybe the diesel will come. As for pricing, the 2019 Mazda CX-5 begins at $25,345 after the $995 destination charge. Adding the turbo engine adds a significant cost - $35,865 for the Grand Touring Reserve and $37,885 for the Signature. Source: Reddit2 points

I like the new theme. But I kind of liked the old theme a lot too. Choices choices....2 points

I'm surprised M-B hasn't done more to utilize the platforms available w/ Renault/Dacia/Nissan in their partnership for models like this. Lots of mainstream inexpensive FWD cars and CUVs from those brands. (going beyond what they have done so far w/ SMART and Renault/Nissan)>2 points

A bunch of randomness this evening. Went to a concert downtown, had front row, center seats. Great show. Classic cosmic prog rock from John Lodge. On the way to the show, while slowly going down a busy two-lane street dead-ending into the club parking, the police pulled over the SUV behind me...which was a black Jeep that appeared identical to mine. Odd. On the way home, my Jeep hit the 40,000 mile mark. Not bad for a '14. Watched a freighter go down the river out into Lake Erie from the club, tried to take pics, but through the glass my phone made a blurry pic. Outside I took a few pics of the city at night. Mellow evening.2 points

Re: old man trucks I tend to think of 'old man' trucks as the most basic trim level 2wd regular cab models w/ no options. A lot of older guys liked that configuration of Ranger, for example.2 points

Tesla reported Q3 2018 Earnings on Wednesday with revenue of $6.82 billion and a profit $417 million or $2.90 per share. Tesla's earnings per share widely out-paces analyst estimates of losses of 15 to 19 cents per share. Revenue on automotive production increased 158% year over year with a dramatic increase in sales during the summer of 2018 due to increased sales of the Model 3 sedan. Tesla also cites increased gross margins on the Model S and Model X due to increased efficiencies. The Model 3's margin grew to above 20% while production rate increased and manufacturing costs dropped. Telsa is now moving an average of 4,300 Model 3s off the assembly line per week. Tesla did not change their overall guidance for the year and production goals remain at 100,000 Model S and Model X units for 2018. I'll try to adjust the logo. It's one of those things that looks right on a computer and then squished on a phone or tablet.1 point

One has to wonder if this happened due to creative accounting or is it real. Only time will tell.1 point

Because people who can't afford an XT4 or XT5 are then lost customers. GM still makes a lot of profit on the Trax. Think about it, it is a Sonic based vehicle that costs very marginally more to construct than the Sonic. Sonic starts at $15k. The Trax is basically the same vehicle and starts at $21k and can be optioned all the way up to $29k. There is money to be made there. Now, I'm not saying that Smart should be building Duramax 2500 competitors, but a family brand that has the typical lineup of crossovers and maybe 1 sedan would cover a market that MB is not participating in. Maybe someone like Subaru would be a good lineup to pursue.1 point

Name brand dilution. By using Smart for the mainstream stuff it protects the "mystique" of the MB brand. It's why Lexus, Acura, Infiniti, Audi, Lincoln, etc all exist and aren't just sold as Toyota, Honda, Nissan, VW, and Ford.1 point

Family crossovers are still highly profitable and that is a market segment they don't play in at all. They are literally leaving money on the table. Smart has no baggage. No one outside of enthusiasts know what they are, or care.1 point

That's level 2. The self-driving Volvos in Pittsburgh are higher than that and development is by Uber, not Volvo.1 point

And with the name 'SMART' make it all EV and play up that angle..1 point

Price point. SMART can be the consumer brand for Benz just like VW is to Audi or Chevy is to Cadillac.1 point

Depends on the open mind of the Camaro owners.... Seems the Mustang owners are cool with it.....1 point

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying make Smart Equinox competitor.... Same size and all. Benz should follow GM here.1 point
