My longest road trip took place in August/September 1992, when I drove from my grandparents' farm on the Eastern Shore of Maryland out to Denver and Fort Collins and up into Wyoming before turning around and traveling home on the southern route. Just me and my beloved Jack Russell terrier, Meggie, in my green 1992 VW Golf GL 2-door.4 points

The movie Money Ball, and this scene, eerily sums up this conversation...And this movie is truly based on real life events on how the Oakland A's did things with analytics. Grady being Blu and Billy being, well, the future of electric vehicle production... Adapt or die. And like @Cmicasa the Great said. If electrics dont work out, but they will, GM will just revert to be building ICE cars again. The memo is this though. GM will not stop producing ICE. GM will just stop producing cars that dont sell. GM's press conference just before the Detroit autoshow did say that GM has made itself the world's most successful CUV/SUV producer and seller!!! And if you hadnt noticed, those successful CUVs/SUVs ALL have ICE in them!!!4 points

This is pretty cool...not my pics..saw these posted on a Facebook group..there was this display of vintage Cadillac dealer promo models (1/25th scale, old Johan promos) at the Detroit Auto Show. Don't know where at the show it was (wasn't there). I have several of these in my promo collection. Wish I'd been there to see them.4 points

Can't U see... Can't U seeeee.. In order for GM to survive they need to be able to compete in a techno word. ICEs are those horses... Now imagine if in 1909 Billy Durant had of decided to not pursue the formation of Buick, Cadillac, and Olds into General Motors.. but had instead decided, like U, to call upon Hugo de Vries and Carl Correns (lead geneticists at the time) and push them to develop a better, more powerful horse... I have it on good authority that Henry Ford would have left him in the dust.. and GM would have filed BK in 1911. Also.. no one is saying, not even GM, that the ICE is dead at their company. This is a migration which will take over a decade or more for all of those engines to phased out. If calamity comes.. GM, being one of the most resilient corporations on record, will simply un-shelve those beloved ICEs, and re-insert4 points

I'm picking out all the big opera windowed coupes! During the '70s in SoCal, I knew a black woman named Velma who bought herself a new '78 Coupe de Ville 425 V8 in the extra cost (get this) Cerise Firemist Metallic, essentially a metallic pink champagne color, with the maroon landau roof and a maroon leather interior ... and with wire wheels and the normal width whitewall tires. In its day, shiny and fresh from the showroom floor, this thing made quite a statement. The closest I've been to a long trek in a car like that was a ride from SoCal to Las Vegas in a friend's aunt's Riv coupe (RWD and based on the LeSabre chassis) with its 403 V8 silently humming across the Mojave Desert at 70 to 75 mph. Hers was tri-color light metallic blue and the seats were cloth, much nicer to get in and out of in the desert heat.3 points

Well this is the goal. I have zero issue with this, but like I pointed out in the Henry Ford quote about the "better horse" some will fight tooth and nail to still be able to smell exhaust from a ICE. I have a friend who absolutely will not stop traditional smoking cigarettes even tho both his mom, dad, and uncle have lung cancer or died from lung cancer. His old lady even proposed that he use the E-Cigarettes, but he refuses because they just aren't the same. Quoting possible negative effects of them to try and justify the absolute known effects of Newports. That is basically what we have in OcnBlue? Cadillac's move to EV is not a gimmick nor is it its "last chance." Its the last frontier for all makers..and I think that was what Reuss was saying.. not that Cadillac is dead if consumers don't take hold of EVs for the brand in record sales numbers. If Cadillac just wanted record sales.. all they would have had to do or do.. is badge engineer existing Chevy models in a way that addresses all of its competitors. As I said.. GM has the supply.. the tech.. the capability, but refuses to utilize it while sitting in the Silos wondering why Mercedes or Audi have 13-16 vehicles, and minimum 4 variants of each.. versus their 6 vehicles and maybe 2 variants.. are beating them in sales and awareness. Its bewildering to say the least. Example. EClass comes in E-Class Coupe, E-Class Sedan, E-Class Convertible, E-Class AMG and I believe an E-Class Wagon. Each one of them have a "VSport" for all intents under the name AMG53= 46,422 CTS comes in CTS Sedan, CTS V 2018 Sales 11,219 (i'll throw in XTS sales since they were same price. 17,727 and the E-Class couples its sales with the CLS) = 28,946 Go figure. Here we go.. U , GM , can make a Camaro coupe and convertible on the same platform as the CTS and ATS but can't make one for the CTS and ATS. Could that have generated, all those variants matched to what Benz has, another 17K sales? I'm betting yes.. or damn close. I would have certainly been in line trading my CTS-V in for a CTS-V Coupe.. no different than I did in 2012 when I traded my '09 CTS Sedan for my '12 V Coupe3 points

I want to take one with the wife. Coast to coast also. I wanna see all the old Western towns. Where all those "legendary" cowboys roamed. I love that part of American history. I mentioned the Pacific Coast Highway couple of days ago. Route 66. Whatever is left of it nowadays. Then there is another road trip Id like to take. The one above was East to West. I wanna go from North to South. See the Atlantic coast and find myself in the Florida Keys. The Keys are also beautiful... Ive just been to Boston and New York. But the USA is so vast and big and beautiful, that several road trips are a must!2 points

Especially the movies. Music: the 1950s and especially the 1960s, was incredible with the music. The 1980s were very comparable with the incredible sounds the musicians, song writers and singers were experimenting with. But the movies...best decade ever so far in the story telling department. Especially the ones geared for us, the teenagers. It seems that the 1980s was a decade that just catered to teenagers. It was a great time. Yeah! I know! An investigation to come as to why... But that aint a good thing...2 points

I want one badly. Its a shame I was born in '73. If I was born 20-25 years prior, Id be of age to own one. *SIGH* But then again, Id be 20-25 years older now... good thing? bad thing? Retirement be knocking on my door....you know what? Im good that I was a teenager in the 80s. No really, MLB baseball was exciting in the 80s, so was hockey, Def Leppard. No 1970 442, but 1986 Chevrolet Celebrity 1994 4 door Pontiac Grand Am GT!!! YEAH!!!2 points

In terms of the front end design inlaid hoods are very good and look much better That's the unfortunate part of D4 is that they couldn't engineer a different style of hood. I think the Continental project was very low budget as it began but when new leadership came they demanded a better product and convinced Bill Ford and then CEO Fields to spend money on Lincoln. Woodhouse brought a great concept but there was no suitable platform for it. Apparently the concept was built on a Panther.... I just find it odd that the Koreans are doing RWD better that anyone else in a way. They're beating American RWD with luxury appointments. They're beating Japanese RWD by having better targeted and more refinement. They're beating German RWD with far better value. And they're beating Italian RWD with almost or already on par American/Japan reliability with the best warranty in the business. The only thing that Genesis lacks is options and body styles. And that hurts because top tier luxury buyers want to feel special and different. While people who would otherwise not consider a luxury brand immediately look at Genesis as being almost or already as credible as Acura, Lexus, even Buick and Lincoln. Then the real savvy defectors from Germans also join in.2 points

I still love Colorado (lived there 12 years), but the parts I like (Denver, Boulder) have become quite expensive since I left. And it's pretty dry and beige, no beaches. Ohio has some rather high property tax (Over $4000/yr on my $165k house and about the same on the family farm which is valued around $285k). and regional income tax (RITA) here in the Cleveland area.2 points

Blinded by the PAST, you fail to see the future and survive. Companies that live in the past die. Many great companies in the US did that, GM is looking to the future to survive. FCA, will die as will any company that tries to stick to the past. Rest in Peace!1 point

On the subject of road trips, my longest was my last...June 2017 in my '14 Grand Cherokee...Phoenix, Arizona to Cleveland, Ohio in approx. 52 hours and 2099 miles. Was not fun, but something that had to be done..last trip of my move and had to get 6 dogs home. I would like to take a more relaxed pace coast-to-coast road trip some day, not sure what I'd do it in...1 point

I enjoyed being a teenager in the 80s...lots of 80s cars I love, along w/ 80s music and movies... A bit of non-automotive randomness...was up late last night watching Audioslave, Soundgarden, Eagles, and Prince videos on YouTube...missing some of my favorite musicians that have passed in recent years. Had a funny thought---what if Freddie Mercury had made an album in the 80s w/ John Mellencamp? It could have been titled 'Mercury Cougar'... (John Mellencamp went by the stage name Johnny Cougar then John Cougar in the 80s).1 point

Random thought ... of the non-automotive variety: I cannot believe how many thick and inconsiderate people there are out there when it comes to recycling. I'm talking about places like IKEA, where they have separate bins for paper, plastic bottles/cans, and trash. - There are used, smeared food paper wrappers in the paper bin, as well as plastic water bottles - There is paper in the plastic bottles/cans bin - There are MANY perfectly recyclable plastic bottles in the trash bin1 point

Cool..neat experience I'm sure. I did make many road trips from NE Ohio to S Florida and places around the Midwest growing up in my Dad's various Town Cars from the 70s-90s. Very comfortable road trip cars. My sister's '00 DTS was very comfortable on road trips, I did several Phoenix to San Diego and Phoenix to Long Beach drives in it over the 5 years she had it.1 point

As with Balthy, I did not like the fact that these English asshats were critical, unnecessarily, on an American icon. Henry Ford had his issues. But his issues never concerned England, or Europe. Those English asshats want to revise history, I guess, but 'twas England and France that made Hitler into a monster...if those English asshats really want to suggest something about WW2 and Hitler... This is why I never like Jeremy Clarkson. Although some shticks of his were funny, I never liked the way his "humour" portrayed American cars and America in general, in his programs. One could say it was jokes for TV viewing pleasure, but I always sensed there was some sort of truth to his "jokes" on how he really felt about American cars and worse, for American people. He is one uncouth, smarmy, blowhard English limey... I wasnt surprised at all when the news broke out that he hit one of his TV's shows assistant and he got fired for it. And if you guys do not believe me he is an uncouth bastard, just listen to what he said and how he handled his firing. Not once did he take ownership of his actions. And he blamed the assistant and the BBC for killing a good thing that he had on TV... The ONLY thing that he ever did that I applaud him for, is that he also punched Piers Morgan on the nose. A worse uncouth, smarmy, blowhard English limey than himself!!!1 point

@Drew Dowdell The downvote was for the video. Not for you posting it, but for the vid itself. This pic reminded me of Star Wars. -"Star Wars???!!! What are you, drunk? " -Nah man! Check this out! Dex's Diner from the Prequels, dudes and dudettes! You know, a 1950s vibe to it all... (tries to leave the room quietly without anybody noticing...)1 point

"He was a Nazi" "He was a grotesque man, absolutely nothing nice whatsoever to say about Henry Ford." "Hitler only read 2 books while he was in prison, one of them was Henry Ford's. Horrible horrible man." Like Henry Ford's book made Hitler a genocidal Nazi. What a group of raging, do-nothing, hyperbolic douches.1 point

Got a few inches of new snow last night. Sunny out today, i went out to shovel the driveway and clear off my sister's Trax--the way the snow blew, only the left side and roof had snow, right side was completely clear. Jeep is in the garage, coated in salt and slush from running around downtown yesterday afternoon...need to run it through the carwash this week.1 point

Not really a 'spot' but stickin it in here anyways. I stored this '63 in my shop a little over a year for a relative, he finally sold it in Dec. and the guy paid up/picked it up today. He has restored other Corvettes, says he's going to do this one, too. Original 340 HP 327 4bbl/4-spd car. Will need a body-off going over- has been sitting since 1969 (!!!!). Godspeed, lil plastic Chevy!1 point

For almost two decades, Cadillac has been undergoing a transformation of sorts to become a threat to likes of BMW and Mercedes-Benz. The various models and changes have been met with mixed reactions. But the latest move to make Cadillac the lead brand in General Motors' electric car offensive marks a big change. According to an executive, this is the brand's last chance at success. “We don’t have any chances left with taking Cadillac to a really new place. This is pretty much it,” said GM President Mark Reuss to Reuters. “So we really have to hit the ball here. It’s my job to make sure we do.” Cadillac previewed their first EV on Sunday night during the press preview of the XT6 crossover. No name was given, but the model appears to be a small or midsize crossover. It will be the first vehicle to use GM's dedicated BEV3 platform that has been designed to underpin various types of vehicles and drivetrain layouts. When asked how long it would take for Cadillac to transition to an all-electric lineup, Reuss said it is too early to tell. He expects a combination of electrified and combustion engine models “for quite a few years” in the lineup. Reuss did not elaborate what would happen if the transition to electric faltered. “All I’m focused on is what we’re doing right now…” Reuss said, “and getting momentum back in Cadillac.” Source: Reuters View full article0 points
