DRIVEN: 2016 Cadillac CT6 Luxury 3.6 AWD (Used vehicle review) originally 63k msrp. HIGHS: Yup, this is my type of car, I got in and felt right at home. To heck with crossovers! Surprisingly I had a very positive vibe of the interior and it's quality. Sure it may not 100% match some Germans but honestly it was fine in the front and quite honestly better than what a lot of Cadillacs have had for interiors in the last 20-30 years. And a quiet interior. Hushed for road noise, like a luxury brand should be....an obvious upgrade vs. non luxury marques. And so comfortable! Seats were a glove and the cockpit around me was there just for me. I liked the location of controls, including the touchscreen. There are many times where I malign the corporate GM 3.6 motor, but it does quite an admirable job moving this physically big car. For some reason, on the CTS and this, the 3.6 seems nicely refined, and is smooth and powerful, where other GM vehicles it does not impress like this (in lower priced trims). Transmission was a rock star too. Always shifted up or down as needed, kicked in fast when asked, no drama, very smooth. How does such a big car with such a long wheelbase feel like a mid size car? It doesn't feel heavy and ponderous in any way (it's a light car, actually). And it's fairly nimble, turns tightly. Outward visibility, you see a short hood, and looking out the rear view mirror, the car seems shorter than it is as well. Ride was just the sweet spot balance of cushy and firm for most driving. I believe it was in standard mode, not sport. The steering had nice heft, but not too much. Steering quickness about right for most of the time also. I'd have no problem with a quicker rack in a sport model, but otherwise this was great. Bigger trunk than I thought. We know the back seat is big also. To be honest, I actually liked the old T-bar style shifter just fine. Car had 60+ thou miles but honestly felt brand new. Just get in and (super)cruise. Find an open road and gaze at the landscape in front of you. Racking up miles in this thing would be such a treat. Isn't this what Cadillac is supposed to be? LOWS: So the 3.6 is a good lower trim motor. Some folks may wish for more low end torque at times (I'm reaching here), but the 3.0 twin turbo would be a nice upgrade you may want for sure if you invest a lot of $$$ in this car. The mousepad on the console is replaced for 2019. I suppose this is an improvement. Rear seat doesn't fold to expand the trunk (No bookcase hauling for mom). I kept reaching for power seat controls on the side of the seat. I actually question if having them on the door is preferred or not by most people. Ok, admittedly in some ways, inside and out, the styling could be deemed tepid, particularly for a luxury brand (I don't think so, but for the CT6 I do think it depends on colors, too). Cadillac's whole marketing and sales plan for the CT6 has been a failure, trims, packages, options, pricing. I get that the public wants crossovers now, but big spacious sedans just like this is how people think of Cadillac. Why not go all in and really get this vehicle into the hands of buyers? This is the DTS replacement people really deserved to have 8 years ago. It's like Cadillac (or GM) really didn't even want to make and sell this vehicle. SUMMARY: From the moment I got in the car, I knew this was my spirit animal. This is the Cadillac I recall growing up with, modernized. I was just giddy to actually get to drive one of these things, finally. I was hoping to be able to drive a 3.0 twin turbo six, but the 3.6 equipped CT6 was just fine. I don't understand how Cadillac botched this. This is just what everyone still sort of wants to believe Cadillac is. Big long, comfy, cruising vessel. The chassis and engineering to me are the rock stars here, because like I mentioned above.... this is a LARGE car that feels like a solid mid size car when you are driving it. Man, I would love to drive this everyday. And GM could,.....COULD really leverage this platform. The oft rumored CT7, or Escala, I can totally see now taking this platform and making a liftback A7 like vehicle with this. Wow, that would be cool. But that would be too risky for Cadillac, wouldn't it. Instead we get the XT6, which admittedly will sell because it has 3 rows. And why not replace the current Buick LaCrosse with a new LaCrosse (AVENIR?) built on this chassis? I bet that's what at one time the plan was for Buick, even if only for the moment. If a badge engineered Buick helped pay for this chassis to continue, I'd be all for it. I honestly do even believe with the right four cylinder in it, this car would be great with just a four cylinder (the 2016-2018 has the old 2.0, which is much faster than the new motor for 2019). I know it has the four cylidner now, and so I would not discourage someone who may find a good used one and doesn't need more than rear wheel drive, take a look you may be surprised. Rather than a Kia K900.? srsly. Since the CT6 has a stay of execution, and with the new Blackwing v8 coming on, let's hope we continue to see investment in this car and this platform for Cadillac. It should be the soul of Cadillac, in a time where it can't. Enjoy the ride while its still available. At least all those Cadillac Edge sales (um, XT5 I mean) keep money in the till and the lights on at the Cadillac dealer so they can keep enough space for the CT6's buried in the corner. Cadillac please take baby out of the corner.2 points

Funny, neither is singling out an entire brand just because it's not "your" brand. FWD Buick or RWD Kia.. Hmmmm2 points

Weather getting a bit better...was out and about this morning and saw a grubby, dented salt-encrusted red Tesla Model S coming out of the McDonalds drive thru...funny to see a Tesla driven like any other winter beater. The rear bumper fascia was cracked.1 point

Forty-six degrees out today, snow's a-melting. Feels like seventy-two after many frigid days. Took a walk. Heard Tears For Fears' "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" blaring from the open windows of a clapped out, white, winter-grimy first-gen Versa sedan. I normally wouldn't post about first-gen Versa sedans, but1 point

and it's funny because all the car press reviews kind of say the same thing, too. read these and it sort of sums it up nicely https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a21272878/2018-buick-regal-gs-test-review/ the last paragraph of that one in particular ^^^^ and these parts http://www.thedrive.com/new-cars/20324/2018-buick-regal-gs-review-a-sporty-chassis-let-down-by-its-drivetrain https://jalopnik.com/the-2018-buick-regal-gs-is-surprisingly-great-1826640692 there is such a dearth of sports sedans that really do venture into sport sedan territory and we GM fans had so hoped this might actually be one. I am very looking forward to all Williams thoughts when he is done driving it.1 point

I think Kia markets the Stinger as a Grand Tourer, the G70 has a tighter suspension and is presented as a sport sedan by Genesis.1 point

Is it a case of us wanting it to BE a sports sedan. Mistaken identity, perhaps. As per your assesment, its a great grand tourer, and perhaps THAT is what Buick was aiming for to begin with yet us, WE wanted it to be a sports sedan. Kinda like the way we thought the Ford Fusion Sport would be an Audi S4 competitor JUST because we saw AWD, turbo V6 and "Sport" nomenclature on it...but alas the Fusion Sport makes for a poor sports sedan but an excellent V6 turbo, family, hauling, family sedan. And we chastized it for being a poor sports sedan yet we failed to praise it for what it reaaly is. A V6 family sedan. In derfense of Ford, Ford NEVER made that connection, we did. Ford just slapped on "Sport" on it and WE went with the wild fantasy thoughts. Does Buick market this as a sports sedan? I do not know this answer. But maybe Buick just wants the Regal GS JUST to be a grand tourer. Its kinda like I mean, all these years and I thought the Toyobarus had a Toyota 4 cylinder under the hood...for real. Just a thought that I had.1 point

I'm kind of feeling this way as my week goes on with the Regal GS. I do like the various improvements Buick has made, but I feel they could have done. Its a great grand tourer, but a sports sedan that Buick is trying to present... Not quite so much.1 point

e-COPO is generic BS. May as well do away with the quaint idear of brands and just label all of them "GM". There is just no soul to an electric car, no heartbeat of America. Same same same, lame. You've never been to a quarter mile track, I can tell. So far removed from what has made drag racing a popular passtime. Neutered?1 point

Not quite. The 86 would be a Subaru if the 86 and the siblings would have a Subaru boxer under the hood. Im perfectly fine with the engine choice just to be clear, but as is, the Toyobarus are in fact, more vanilla Toyota then anything else. PS: I like very much the Toyobarus. A tad small for my tastes, but I like a lot. I would love if Subaru boxer in the BRZ, but hey, you cant always get what you want. I think Jagger said that once... ?1 point

That is unacceptable. I have done better with three quarter ton trucks towing trailers.1 point

Right...because the blue flame 6 running on leaded gas in the 53 Corvette ought to be the climax of GM performance.1 point

Every time Toyota tries to shed its vanilla image, it fails with very few exceptions. The brand new RAV4 is getting tepid (at best) reviews everywhere I look... it is being lambasted for not being nice to drive, noisy engine... etc. etc. Internet ppl like to make fun of Chevy pickups with square wheelwells, and Jeeps with trapezoidal wheelwells... but the new Rav4 has like ZERO curved lines on it. If any vehicle needs square wheels to make it look cohesive, the new RAV is it. The Corolla Hatchback is the best looking Toyota out right now, along with the 86... which I deem a Subaru because of its boxer engine. The new Corolla sedan seems to have lost some weirdness and gained some grace in its look. The Yaris sedan is saved by its clean Mazda sheetmetal, ugly mug notwithstanding. The Highlander is not too bad I guess. The Tacoma has weird packaging issues, and a non-competitive engine/trans. Tundra is a time capsule. Avalon/Camry have alien front ends. 2019 Prius has lost some of its otherworldy details, is improved. Overall, Toyotas are just not appealing to me.1 point

And now we get to see the eCOPO destroy ICE at the Strip with an Awesome Wheelie to boot! Chevrolet is now Racing the eCOPO. You will never hear it coming or going! The person who shot the video claimed it was only running at 80 percent of its max power as it achieved a 10.142-second quarter-mile time at 130.85 miles per hour.1 point

2019 Regal GS to A4 I have to say it is very subjective as I think both cars are very nice looking, but I like the lower portion of the doors on the GS over the A4. 2019 GS versus A4 interior is a bit different. It is a shame that Buick cannot offer anything else but just black. Two Tone is very much needed on cars today to give a nicer more inviting interior to enjoy. I will say I HATE that LCD screen sticking up, to me this is an Afterthought on the A4, cheap bean counting last minute consideration. Kinda like the cheap approach Lincoln Aviator gives me. By now these things should be properly integrated into the Dash.1 point
