  1. I want you pay special close attention to the first paragraph describing the Bolt on CHEVY’s own page. Nowhere does it say CUV but it sure does mention the word “car” a lot. And no one is crying but you because you’re the only one here who gets their underwear in a knot over any positive attention directed at EVs. We get it. You hate them so maybe staying out of the conversation and not trolling at every EV turn would be better here.

  2. Yes, if they had a decent sized EV CUV that looks like a normal CUV (the Bolt is a humpy tall hatchback), sales would be better.

  3. 370 miles on the new Tesla model S and it even charges 50% faster now. But I specifically said, "in daily life" in reference to @balthazar not wanting to stop at a shopping mall.

  4. If you had an EV the size of an Equinox or Traverse, sales would be much better. That eventually will come.

  5. Again, with home charging, you can start every day with a full tank. You may never need to charge while out and about in daily life if you're home charging. There's no need to stop at all with an EV. Charge while you're home surfing Cheersandgears.com.

As I have published earlier in the alternative fuel channel, Toshiba goes into production with their solid state batteries this spring, Mitsubishi and Nissan are the first auto companies that are going to use them in their EVs. Two battery pack options, 198 mile pack that charges fully in 6 min and 396 mile pack that charges in 12 min. Toshiba is leading the charge here and then there is Samsung who as @Drew Dowdell suggested has stated they will have solid state batteries out later this year but no product mentioned. I suspect in the Note 10, Samsung has also been totally quiet about the battery that is in the Samsung Fold but many think it is a solid state battery. Benefits of solid state batteries is half the size of traditional Lithium Ion batteries with 4 times more charge. So making phones liter makes sense, but for a phone like the note, I can also see much longer charge times. Since the time I have posted my original story about the Scib batteries, toshiba has both hybrid lithium ion and solid state going into production this year. This was the update I posted about the drop of cobalt from them last year. Since then Samsung has made announcements, Dyson, and many others. 2019 / 2020 seems to be the year we start seeing Solid state batteries just as EVs start being rolled out.

  11. Like @Drew Dowdell has pointed out, I don't drive enough to even need to charge daily. I'd say a good 90% of my driving is trips under 10 miles round trip. I wouldn't need to charge out and about. It would cost more and wouldn't be necessary. My only issue is decreased winter range and visiting family 5.5 hours away. Yup. For the size of vehicle you're getting, they're priced way up there. Once they are comparably priced to their ICE siblings, things will change rapidly.

  15. Going to the mall to charge is not a very cost efficient way of charging. Charge at home, run your errands, go home and plug back in. On something like a Chevy Bolt, it is unlikely that your daily errands are going to take 250 miles to complete. I think I calculated that I could commute to work every day for a week and plug in only on weekends in a Bolt. I do have charging stations in the parking facility next to my office and the charging station in the picture above is about a mile from my office. It's not always located in a shopping area.

  16. Google has released an update for the Google Maps Navigation app when searching for Electric Vehicle charging locations. Now when a user searches for a charging location, the app will show how many ports are currently in use out of the total in real time. This way, the driver no longer needs to physically check the location to see if charging is available without a wait. It will also give information like charge port type, charge speed, and ratings from other drivers. The feature works with ChargeMaster, EVgo, SemaConnect, and Chargepoint." At the moment, Tesla Supercharging is not yet compatible with the feature. Searching is available on Android, iOS, Desktop, and Android Auto. Availability in Android Auto means that drivers of cars equipped with Android Auto now have real time charging information available directly on their car's infotainment system.   20. I'm going to assume they will improve battery life if they can do it cheaply enough with the new solid state stuff. I went from max 3.5hrs screen time over two days to around 6hrs comfortably (I don't game on phone) over two days when I upgraded to my current phone and I expect now with 2019 flagship phones going to 7nm SoC's battery life has improved even more.

  21. Hate Bernie, old guy needs to retire and stop his socialist craziness. Yes free is never free, but a cost some place else. Probably higher rent to the tenants at the mall, ending up higher prices to the consumer. Yet, people see free and in their short sightedness, the free charger especially if they live in an apartment is a good thing. Plus they are at the mall and might buy something. Winner Winner Winier dinner!

  23. There are solid state batteries ready for the market? Who's using them first? What're they going in? After a smallish sedan, that size should have been next. I feel like there is no reason there shouldn't be more of those out already instead of funky styling and odd sizing in the Bolt.

  25. I think if you go with previous generation of Pixel or Samsung, it will be cost effective and still you will get a very good phone. Also, I had previously Moto X4 which is inexpensive, it was a good phone, just the camera was not what I wanted. I think apps support depends on the developer, not really on Android or Google, so it depends. The apps I am using were working fine on both previous generation of Android and on the latest as well.

  26. All of you crying out in agony over the Bolt's looks... the manufacturer calls it a Crossover. In every OEM reference to the vehicle, it is grouped and classified as a Chevrolet CUV. So I don't have a clue why all the crying and excuses saying it would sell better as a CUV... it already is. And a puny selling one at that.

  28. I also don't eat in mall-typical food joints. Red Robin (once), Cheese Cake factory (once) - no thanks. Panera is across the street from me (Tesla chargers); eaten in a Panera once, maybe twice. Not a draw for me. I prefer to eat on the run, and have it done in 10 minutes, which is measured from shutting the vehicle off to restarting it. I'm a shark; have to keep moving. The black helicopters, you know. Maybe it's just me, but I find it curious and dubious that 'fueling' your car is now commonly intertwined in other consumerism/ eating/ peeing. Just seems a strange, semi-mandated pairing.

  29. None of those startups had the backing and a few of those got swallowed by the big boys before anything could even hit the market. Like I said, the technology had roadblocks that went beyond the limits of the tech itself. It is clear that those hurdles and obstructionists of the past have been sent to the sidelines. Tesla opened the door and others are slowly getting the hint and making the investment like what Ford is doing with Rivian. Not “poppycock”. Fact. If it was put into a CUV, the sales would be much higher and that is not even a debatable point. Whether you choose to accept it or not is 100% irrelevant. It sure as hell isn’t like you’ve had any real time in one so your opinion on this is taken with a grain of salt.
