  3. There were so many older drivers in Arizona w/ Corvettes..such a stereotype...true here in NE Ohio also. One sight I'll never forget from a few years ago was in Scottsdale...I was sitting at a carwash while my Jeep was going through, see this yellow Corvette C7 Z06 convertible roll up. A guy that looked to be around 80 opens the door, lifts his walker out of the passenger seat, puts it own the ground then drags himself out of the car into a semi standing position w/ the walker... I've sat in C7s at car shows, find them hard to get in and out of at 48.

  4. When I'm waiting in a line, waiting at the airport, or waiting at the doctor--I'm on my phone...what else is there to do in those circumstances but surf the web, read C&G, check email, check Facebook, check my home Ring cameras, check my ADT, etc. I just find it really hard to be 'offline' these days, I've been online for so long... part of that comes from being in IT--I'm on a computer all day for work, so being on my computer, iPad, iPhone in my off hours comes naturally...a few times I don't use my phone is when I'm driving, on a plane (though I'm on my iPad or Kindle then), at a concert, play, movie or other artistic performance. It's fun to disconnect for a couple hours...but longer than that is hard. I have tried going a weekend without internet or phone and it's near impossible.

  5. There are often times I feel like I would like to do that, but there are too many things I need to monitor, not just the latest sports ball scores, but things like tenants and web servers, that it's really hard to take a "vacation" without a phone. My phone plan works in 122 different countries without extra charges too.

  7. Righttttttttttt ? Our incompetent leadership from the White house to the senate and house that has pretty much destroyed any leadership this country had left in the world with ignorant trade policies that have hurt more than helped the average American in the last 3 years. You can hate either party in the US, but the last time we actually had solid good reaching across the isle to build a budget of living within the means and paying down debt was the 90's. Right, I think the buck board in your buggy needs a new nail. While not everyone will agree with political push in one direction or another, the end fact is that government drive of technology is what has given us some amazing better ways to drive, fly, and live in this planet that needs to be saved from toxic old ways of doing things. EDUCATION IS THE GREAT EQUALIZER!!! Without pushing for the 22nd century and embracing change that looks for the good of the whole rather than the selfishness of the individual humanity flourishes. Global Trade will always have drawback as nothing will ever be perfect as humans are not perfect, yet we can learn to live together in this Multi-Cultural society that can give us so much more by reaching across with best intent and listening and speaking one's mind to find a way to agree to disagree while building better products, better quality of life and enjoying the differences that can give us all a cleaner, healthier planet to live on.

  8. Face it: there is no reason anyone under 35 can afford to buy ANY NEW CAR whatsoever. The median price of a new car is already north of $37K. That is ridiculous! Basically all automakers could stand to build a $12K new car just so that Gen Y and Gen Z will actually buy new cars. Do automakers not realize that a rising median age for a new car buyer means that they are throwing away an entire generation for at least the next decade?! Or do they only care about the next quarter's P&L statements?

  10. I think Tesla made 2 big mistakes. 1. getting way overly complicated on the Model X with the doors - It would have sold just as well without them, possibly at a lower price (higher volume), and it wouldn't have been delayed a year. 2. Doing the Model 3 before the Model Y - That was just a very poor reading of the direction of the product mix out there as far as sedans go. Still build a sedan of course, but the Model Y should have been the priority. I do wish Rivian well, but I wonder if they'll be priced too high to make a big impact on the market. If they price their SUV at the same price as the Model X, they'll probably kill Tesla in sales, but I get the impression that they'll be higher priced than that.

  11. Politics is somewhat necessary when discussion of the rules and regulations of vehicles comes into play, or tariffs, or taxation. I leave a long leash for discussion of the subject because I have the somewhat idealist hope that we can all behave like adults in here, though I am repeatedly proven wrong. So yes, we do allow some discussion of politics in so much as it pertains to cars. Some people here push the limited of that by injecting unneeded political commentary into posts that have nothing to do with the subject at hand.

  16. So it’s just better for you to disregard valid arguments (like what Drew said) and create your own narrative so that you can feel better about bashing an American company trying to do business in a nation known for unreliable junk? As as it has already been pointed out, the problem is not whether the Tesla’s there are junk or not. It’s the down time which has jack squat to do with reliability. If you want to cherry pick this because of your blind hate, go ahead. Just don’t expect others to buy into because most folks here know the facts.

  21. I second that. I got a lot of time behind the wheel of them when I worked at a Chevy dealership last year. They are a pain to get in and out of (which is still better than trying to climb in or out of a Vette) but they do sit comfortably and I also had no more of a problem seeing out of one as any number of cars out there. Not even close. Those folks tend to go for the Corvette which is baffling given that my 46 year old ass has a hard time with entry and exit. To each their own I guess. I was under the impression that Alpha is on the way out. What would that leave for the Camaro if it’s gone?

  22. I have a smartphone too. An ancient iPhone6. Im not some sort of nantzy panzy who doesnt realize the worth of tech. Smartphone tech at that. But...I also dont agree with your statement of putting it as "ancient times without smartphones" Ive had a cellphone since 1993. I was 20 years old. I use my smartphone in countless of ways. But I also found myself yearning for those "ancient times" to come back...only with the constant need to use our smartphone every second of the damned day. When I need to use the internet for whatever reason, to make a restaurant order, or whatever, yes, I could do it with my iPhone... I used to log unto my on my restaurant's security cameras with my iPhone to see what is going on at the store. All that constant need to be connected got me into a paranoia state of mind... Now...I just calmed myself the phoque down, breathe, and just use the internet when I can. ON MY OWN TERMS... And if that means being off the grid for 15 hours, 20 hours. 48 hours, so be it... I just use the internet the way we used to use the internet during the "ancient times" OK...sometimes Im on Youtube listening to music. OK...kinda like all the time when Im at home NOT watching TV or doing homework with my kids...But never when I drive. I dont use internet to listen to music when I drive or Im waiting in a doctor's office. I got enough music using early 2000s tech for that. I dont use CDs, but other storage devices NOT called the cloud...or Spotify... In fact, when Im waiting in a doctor's office, or dealership, or check-out line, or whatever, my smartphone, is tucked away in my pocket, like it was in 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996...in other words, I simply use my phone as a phone, and if I do NOT want to be bothered, its off. Internet and all...all on my OWN terms But yeah...a life without internet is almost impossible today. Even for non-business usages. You can play your own DJ. Get sports scores instantly. And all that great instant information stuff...Yada yada yada.... But...I have found a happy medium to NOT be connected 24/7/365. And its such a nice feeling is alls Im saying.

  23. Fresh on the news that Ford invested $500 million into electric truck startup Rivian in order to gain access to the startup's EV platform, General Motors CE) Mary Barra confirmed that General Motors is working on an EV pickup of their own. This was during an investors earnings call when Barra said GM has "an industry-leading truck franchise as well as EV capability" and that the company "would not cede our leadership on either front". Talks between Rivian and GM were rumored to have broken down over GM's insistence that they have exclusive access to the platform. If that is the case, then there is a possibility that Ford may not be the only manufacturer other than Rivian to use the skateboard platform. Any EV from GM will likely use GM's new BEV3 platform that it plans to unveil in 2021. GM plans for at least 20 all-electric or fuel-cell vehicles by 2023. View full article

  25. I’m on the opposite side of the current design fence. I actually like the exterior design of the light duty models (especially after seeing quite a few in person) but the HD front end is just horrid to me. Where they really need to focus on is the Fisher Price interior that is being shamed by Ford and RAM.

  31. wrong answer... If you think its about you and Tesla... you are waaaaaaay off If you want answers from me, maybe you should start giving decent arguments. Not hidden agenda rhetoric. When I respond to you, answer back. Dont ignore. Acknowledge. If not. You'll get what you do. You downvote when you dont like something, or you use that laughy thing without answering to it. So, whenever I see something I dont like from you, Ill just downvote without explanation. I left for about two weeks. And its the same ole same ole trolling. We are all over 30 years of age. Some of us are well into our 40s. Some of us into our 50s. Can we just have INTELLIGENT conversation and let go of the petty, childish crap? We get it. You dont like Tesla... BIG PHOQUING DEAL!!! However, even at GM, cars are in the shop for 45 days...it happens sometimes... And in GM North America at that! What? We are sooooo wanting everything right now today? I sometimes have to wait 48 hours to get a phoquing oil change and tires changed at BOTH Acura and Ford... Tires and oil change... Without knowing what really was wrong with that ride sharing Tesla...we give our two bit hatred for Tesla just because a Chinese ride hailing company said Tesla gave shyte service. One glaring question I got for that Tesla ride sharing company is: What did YOU do to the car for it to be in the shop for 45 days? What did the driver do to it? How phoqued up was his driving for the Tesla to be in the shop? North Americans are not exactly awesome drivers...but Chinese drivers are notoriously bad... Its funny though, your hatred for Tesla IMMEDIATELY makes you blame Tesla. But as I, when I said I dont trust China and Trump...you downvote me. Because I mentioned Trump? Funny? You mention immigrants in an EV thread and you wanna pass that off as OK converstaion... Well... Hypocrite much?

  33. Chrysler is in the sale volume tent as Acura & infiniti and it's 25% higher than volvo. No way that's 'miserable' volume unless those other premium brands are also. Are they? I agree with DD; we read certain people claim Lincoln was "a dead brand" but all it took was product to revive it. Chrysler has far greater potential than fiat or alfa romeo has, it just needs the right product.

  41. (DISCLAIMER: There is a lot to process here. I hope you take the time to read it instead of mocking it...) Immigration is certainly a political issue... Especially the way you shoehorned it in the conversation... And...like I said...Europe's problems, Brexit, are not only social, which in turn is political, but economical and especially about power....which is in fact...political... politics: derived from an ancient GREEK word politika which means "affairs of the cities". Polis is city in GREEK. Politikos in ancient and in modern Greek means of or relating to citizens which in turn there is another GREEK word politis which is citizen. Politics in English refers to the governance of an area. And "governance" includes all kinds of stuff and ideas. And those stuff and ideas are governed by and to the people of that area. Much like that original Greek word and idea where the English word and idea comes from. Now...I understand CheersandGears rules and regulations...but in reality POLITICS are EVERYWHERE. In fact...discussing ChearsandGears rules and regulations are indeed POLITICS... We are a community. We are citizens of the domain CheersandGears and we have guidelines in place to govern our behaviours and how we are to interact with each other. We have rules and regulations and rights on how to post and where to post and what to post. We also have a leader leading us... So...THAT is why I get all antsy when some of us get all whiny about politics. Because politics are indeed everywhere. But wanted to make it clear to you immigration is indeed politics. Education, is indeed politics. RELIGION is indeed politcs. Automobile manufacturing sometimes falls into the category of politics. Even in a micro point of view ONLY consisting a small area not necessarily involving vast territories. Example: GM and Ford blocking Tesla to sell automobiles in Michigan without a proper dealership network. Firstly though, I wanted to make it clear that UK and French immigration have LITTLE to do with their Eurocentric problems. UK and French immigration is from their own dibble and dabble into their very own colonial and political ways of the past that have come back to haunt them a couple of centuries later. England and France wanted to settle and colonize the world. They conquered old and new places and instead of the English and the French to ASSIMILATE to their NEWLY CONQUERED territories, they wanted to CONVERT the CONQUERED into THEIR OWN WAYS. THAT opened up the door for the conquered to get "cultured" and then IMMIGRATE to their MASTER's homeland for better economic opportunities a couple of centuries later because English and French (especially English) colonialism sucked their conquered territories dry of all the riches of those territories... HOW IRONIC... Proof of that bolded statement I made? No taxation without representation comes to mind...

  42. It's not that it was priced too high for the market. It's that they were only building the expensive trims first. It's the same mistake that GM made with the first gen SRX, they built a bunch of high option V8 models and very few V6 models, when it was the lower end that customers wanted at first. You're right though about the QX50. There is nothing special about it. Their variable compression turbo 4 didn't leave me thinking it was any better than a regular turbo 4.... and in fact it was noticeably less refined.
