  1. It's amazing in 2019 there are women still with such an obsolete mindset. If she wants the Volvo and big house, she should go work hard and earn it..
  2. BMW is renowned for their inline 6-cylinder engines, Mercedes and Land Rover are jumping back in the game, GM has a new diesel inline 6, now add Mazda to that list. Jalopnik combed through the Mazda financial report and found references to the new engine line. Mazda is apparently working on a 6-cylinder version of their Skyactiv-X engine for use in longitudinal applications. In case you need reminding, Skyactiv-X is Mazda's spark controlled, compression Ignition technology that allows the engine to run in spark-less mode part of the time. This allows for lower emissions and higher fuel economy. One of the trade-offs is lower engine refinement when in SCCI mode. Now that Mazda has it working well on 4-cylinder engines, it is apparently going to try its hand on mathematically better balanced inline 6-cylinder engines. Mazda is also planning on including 48v Mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the engine as well. Also on the plan is an inline-6 Skyactiv-D diesel that Mazda is calling a second generation. This likely builds on the know-how gained from the development of the Mazda CX-5 Diesel that was finally released at the New York Auto Show. What both of these engines point to is a new large vehicle platform which is rear-wheel drive based. It's possible that the next iteration of the Mazda CX-9 could ride on this new platform and Jalopnik even speculates a new Mazda 6, though we have our doubts on that. Either way, this continues Mazda's slow but steady move up-market.
  3. The Workhorse needs a full crew cab option to become viable to the masses. If they did that they could become a player outside of fleet buyers. And weren't these supposed to be able to the public a long time ago. I see it like VIA, lot of empty promises. For good or bad at least Tesla has things you can actually go and buy.
  4. Not really. I appreciate the CTS RWD Alpha dynamics, but also more liked the smoother, quieter, polished feel of the XTS. Where the ATS/CTS can be brash and crashy (goal GM wanted to fix in the CT5), the XTS is just smooth. And, unlike those 2, it actually has functional legroom inside. That said, never got comfortable in the driver's position (I have a tough time with cars, period, when they're low and have weird seating), and the infotainment was annoying enough. CT5 looks to be a good combo. RWD, more legroom than the current siblings, smoother (they say), and a volume knob. The lack of a radio volume knob alone actually did drive me nuts. And now, the NEW one... Loaded 2019 Subaru Outback 2.5i Touring in Wilderness Green with Java Brown leather. GREAT. Old platform, but Carplay works better than most other brands I've had, the packaging is great, and the 2.5i is super smooth and takes off well. Moreso, the more I drive it, I've never noticed "CVT" as it does the simulated steps and doesn't rev out high. Just smooth. Love EyeSight, etc. supremely well integrated and enjoyable daily. 2020 seats and such are better shaped and bolstered, in the new platform. But this gen is still terrific. And who knew...I went from a Hemi and a GM 3.6L to a Subie 2.5L...and am enjoying the refinement. Perfectly refreshing, functional, and luxurious after the sorted mix above?
  5. I don't know how Workhorse, which has been losing lots of money, is going to afford to buy the plant much less keep the lights on. Lordstown was greatly underutilized when they were building ~250k Cruzes a year there. How many trucks can Workhorse think they're going to sell with no dealer network.... even at that price.
  6. Given Ohio's obesity rate, maybe converting it into the worlds largest food court makes more sense. The food workers union is easier to work with than the UAW, or so I am told. The liability politically and with the unions is greater than a million a month.
  7. • Toro has the 'Strato Bucket' interior, which had a fold-down armrest. Yes- the exhausts are unquestionably larger than factory. • The Dodge ESX may have 'had '04 GP headlights', but the ESX debuted in 1996. For a modern car I do really like the profile/proportioning:
  8. poor coordination getting in and out of cars LOL. 2 Diamantes, almost lost an ear on each one. Also I had my 77 Buick Cetury coupe.
  9. • From what I read recently, Seattle specifically is seeing an explosion of homelessness, but that's not necessarily reflected nationwide. I believe Seattle is a 'sanctuary city', isn't it? • Has a 'correction' EVER reduced the debt? On the individual citizen level- it usually INCREASES it. Big Gov't is oblivious to controlling spending- boom or bust seems to have little effect on that.
  10. 4th floor garage? Looks like another one above it.
  11. This is my son with his ex now Kay when he got his Jeep 2 years ago, just realized I do not have any more current picture. LOL. He learned some very important life lessons and is focused on getting debt free again, hanging with his friends and working out. So over all her loss.
  12. Totally agree with you that STEM is where our school system needs to be focusing those that desire a 4yr degree and for those that do not want it, then the 12 month trade school and 2 to 5 years of apprenticeship as it teaches valuable job skills is so right. Just imagine if we allowed people to come in where they signed a contract with the USA that they will go into a trade school or college for specific degrees and pay their taxes but get no credit for it as they get an education and prove themselves worthy of citizenship, then once graduated and work say 2 to 5 years you become full citizen with all rights and benefits of SS and Medicare. We would get plenty of people who want a better life and will work hard.
  13. Ran an errand and saw these two beauties. Amazing the twins still look good today. Course I like the GMC best, but would take either one!
  14. It just amazes me how ill-equipped for the real world it seems so many people are coming out of college today.. STEM is where it is at..has been that way for a long time. and for the non-college bound, we have a severe shortage of people doing meaningful, practical trade work..we have got to have competent electricians, plumbers, welders, auto mechanics, HVAC people, etc in addition to cube dweller techies like myself to keep the world going...can't outsource everything to China or India...
  15. For better or worse, richer or poorer....has gone the way of the dodo bird... On the Visa thing....our current political climate is just vile. A trillion dollars a year in additional government debt....trade deficit is the worst it has ever been...consumer and student debt is as high as it has ever been...about that...yeah... Staying debt free and living modestly myself.
  16. I have a feeling there won't be a 'next design' anytime soon...I think they will just keep upgrading the current model indefinitely, along w/ the Challenger...
  17. GM probably would sell it for $1. The building anyway, GM May want the equipment inside of it. But the maintenance, upkeep, security, utilities and property tax bill on Lordstown has to be huge. They are probably spending a million dollars a month just to hold on to it, which granted isn’t a lot by GM standards but still I am sure they want to off load it fast.
  18. @Drew Dowdell @Robert Hall @A Horse With No Name @balthazar Seems the Union is not going to let this happen, they want GM to give them a auto to build. Seems GM is tied up with the UAW for a while and Workhorse will have to take over the union contracts if they buy the plant. I do not see that happening. Good read at Bloomberg. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-05-08/trump-gm-reaction
  19. Well, they have gone a different direction w/ the Charger...I don't think we will see ideas from 2 decades ago re-surfacing..
  20. Yes, this is my final 2018 model year review. If you're wondering why it got published in May, it was because I have been quite busy with my new job back in February. But I'm glad to get it out of the way. The good news is that I should be having 2019 model year reviews start coming out within the next few weeks.
  21. That was the Intrepid ESX concept from 1996...kind of predicted the general styling of the 2nd gen Intrepid, but sleeker. I always liked the LH cars, even though they were FWD. I remember seeing this concept in person on the University of Michigan campus back in the day.
  22. You know that was the very first detail about that concept I noticed when I first saw it. Think of the visibility improvement alone! What ever happened with volvo's 'invisible A-pillar'?
  23. Oh, and I started using the XTS self parking the next day...interesting. No other feature, yet it does this. GM bizarro feature mix. A base Mazda has blind spot and can stop, steer, and radar cruise itself...your $52k+ Cadillac has none of that, yet, will self parallel park.
  24. Well...both Cincinnati and Cleveland have lots of established Mafia. Financing is available...but not even sure the Mafia would take this bet. No more vehicles than they will sell they probably could move production to the guard shack. Builds in a tangential alternative reality... It will get re developed into low income housing. So much winning....
  25. Today's 'WTF' sighting...a white Ford Transit panel van, with a Cadillac wreath and crest badge overlaying the blue oval in the grille.
  26. I think they must have such a low take rate that they're simplifying things down until they kill it.
  27. ^ #42 won, #73 finished 2nd, #48 finished 5th. Margin of victory : 2 feet. BTW - Richard Petty was in the same race, but his #43 '57 Olds was out after only 8 laps with engine trouble. Pole speed was 140.1 MPH, average speed was 135.5. Pretty ferocious for stock-block cars- running 3.75 hrs at 135 MPH. Only racing I like is factory chassis'd/engined cars. Modern NASCAR 'sticker' cars are boring. - - - - - The quizzically styled & tagged '42 Olds 'B-44'. Olds had regular series nameplates ('98' and '76), but this year all models also had 'B-44' grille badging. I've not found the reasoning for it as of yet. License plate in ad reads 'NU 4U 4-42'.
  28. See? Proof positive that fins provide directional stability at high speeds, just like Chrysler claimed. Look at that Ford tumble…
  29. I'm personally at 20 years without a vehicle payment since I paid off my '94, but that's 'ME' - my wife's last 2 cars have been on time (with a gap in between). I bought my '04 (in '06) for cash.
