  1. No. No enthusiast is going to take a possibly $50K plaything to the supermarket when unquestionably they have 1 or more disposable modern vehicles to expose to damage. Dave, I am afraid you are losing your automotive perspective.

  2. My Compass tends to intimidate Wrangler owners, I guess. And why wouldn't it? I usually roll my window down and raise my arm as high as I can in a wave, but they kind of scooch down in their seat and keep their eyes straight ahead. Hey guys: no need to feel embarrassed.

  4. Agreed. The Tahoe is so easy to drive for a vehicle it’s size. I imagine the new Expedition is even better given the recent accolades. That pic sums up my point very nicely. Okay, so you got all the kids in there but where does the stuff go (because that kind of kid hauling usually involves stuff hauling). I know I am just stating a personal preference and if someone wants the useless third row, it’s a free country. It’s just a half baked concept to me, that’s all.

  5. I can totally respect and understand the feeling about the full size SUVs, yet once my wife was scared of them, but after driving one, she realized they turned and drove as easy as any mid size car. Now sitting up high and having all that space, she cannot see driving anything else. Have you ever taken one for a test drive? If not, you should it is a fun experience.

  6. @oldshurst442 your manhood should be fine even if you drive a Miata. If it is not, than even an Escalade probably will not help

  7. So...Im in my car today. Driving my daughter to her high school so she could do an exam she has. I drop her off, and so I decide to joyride and cruise around in closeness to her school. I do have a couple of hours to kill and its a nice sunny day today. Ive never felt ashamed of what I drive in my life. Ive never felt intimidated by other cars (size or badge wise). Nor Inadequate in any way. Until today...(I was in my car, a 2012 Acura TL ) A brand new Lincoln Navigator driven by a dude from Ontario. He had Ontario plates... He was in the right lane on a 3 lane boulevard. I was in the middle lane. We were always right beside each other. I was admiring his truck. Its such a big ride. Its got presence on the road. But it is not there that I felt this way. There was a little bit of traffic so we are not driving fast. A good, cruising speed for everybody. He wants to go in front of me to merge in the middle lane, he accelerates and gets in front of me. All is good so far. We continue for another 5 minutes, but by now, Im going a tad too far from the school so I wanna get back. I got the time, but I dont want to drive further on this road as its such a boring commute. I proceed to merge to the right. We get to the lights but there is construction in my lane. The 'Gator driver realizes that, so he kinda lets me squeeze next to him. Good guy...but...as we are acknowledging each other, me thanking him, him accepting his nice gesture and kinda thanking me for my gesture earlier... he kinda sees it in me that Im enjoying his truck, so he pulls on a very arrogant smirk and obviously he is looking down at me...his ride is soooo much higher than mine...so...with his arrogant smirk, looking down at me, he NOW not only is LITERALLY looking down at me...but he is LOOKING DOWN at me...and me...squeezing into his lane...feeling vulnerable at the sheer size of this thing... Light turns green, he drives straight, I turn right, and Im questioning my manhood...should I bite the SUV bullet and trade my sporty sedan in for the next generation Escalade ESV? I really felt...small...in more ways than one...

  8. People don't buy how many seats they need, they buy how many seats they MIGHT need. A lot of people with 1 kid will buy a 3 row SUV for the off chance their 1 kid decides to bring friends along, or the twice a year the in-laws visit and they want to put 6-7 people in a car. 76% of driving is done alone, and yet 76% of cars aren't 2-seaters. Millenials with zero kids will buy GLB's for the "just in case" they have kids and need 7 seats one day. And the GLB may have a small 3rd row, but it's 3rd row is larger than the 3rd row in the Corsair, XT4, XT5, RDX, NX, X3, X2 and Q5, because none of them have one.

  9. I assume the 3rd row in compact and midsize SUVs are for children, not adults.

  10. Maybe targeting Asian markets? There are markets where people want small 3 row vehicles.

  12. I don't know if the 2020 numbers are finalized/correct ~ 2018 CTS 2.0T : 268/295 2020 CT5 2.0T : 275/295 2018 CTS 3.6TT : 420/420 2020 CT5 3.0TT : 404/400 IF correct, those certainly do not depict "great leaps backwards" in power. What remains, of course, is the V8 version's output. Everyone seems wrapped around the 'V' badge as opposed to looking at the comparative engines.

  13. Apparently in some dealerships, it's a smart money-making move that provides an appealing car-like vehicle… but in other dealerships its just 'generic & cheap'. ?

  14. Obviously the money went to the CT5 C-pillar, not the CUV's.

  17. I dont think he was a douchebag. Its more me thinking this way and reading into his mannerisms more than I should. He did arrogantly smirk....but there is NOTHING wrong with that. I would too, arrogantly smirk if some stranger admired my brand new awesome ride. It was arrogant as much as it was playful between two guys happily driving around in beautiful weather. Life is good for me as Id like to think that life is good for him too. We were both enjoying the moment. It was a cool moment. He let me into his lane. He did not have to do that. I would either scrape my car on some barriers, or wait for at least 5-6 cars to go by before I would be able to go around the obstacles in my lane going into the lane beside me. It wasnt like that asshat with the '69 Cutlass convertible last week. THAT was a douchebag. He should have acknowledged me admiring his car. He could have arrogantly smiled at me too....which I would have approved even further. Yeah, dawg! You got the car, bro! Good for you! Yeah...you deserve that arrogant smile. Enjoy your ride, man!!! That is how I view folk that acknowledge others for admiring their car... When they smile back at you! He chose to ignore me! Like I wasnt there. A mere peasant I was to him...THAT is 100% douchebag behaviour right there!!! In my opinion at least. I always compliment folk on their rides when I see a nice car that catches my eye. And it doesnt have to be cars that I personally like. Like an Olds 442 or Trans Am. Anything that looks good, Ill compliment. In reality with the situation with the new 'Gator'... I did feel down.... A tad jealous? For him having a 2019 model year vehicle? Maybe Im itching form a new car myself? Probably not. Mid-life crisis? Not for wanting and lusting after an SUV...so scratch that idea. I dont know why I got down today after that incident...but Ill tell ya one thing. Im no longer feeling that sentiment.

  18. Exactly the reason we got MDX for my wife and why we probably will get another one this year. We have two kids and 95% of the time drive with third row down, but occasionally need the third row when we drive short distance with parents or our kids friends. For camping or other trips I also have a roof basket for all the extra crap. If we had 3 or more kids though, I would get either a minivan or large size SUV, like Expedition.

  20. I would say it does, have to fit the seats somewhere. The Rogue two row has 39 cubic feet of storage capacity, three row has 32... (32 is still more than many other two row compact CUV's like the Equinox, CX5 etc).

  21. Hahaha well in all fairness.. that starts at twice the price the GLB is supposed to start around.. (estimated to start between the GLA and GLC which start at 35,000 and 40,000 and the ESV starts at 78k)

  22. Not to nitpick here but if any friend asks me to sit back there, I’m going to tell them “no” and that’s being nice about it. It’s absolutely a marketing gimmick IMO when it comes to vehicles this small. About your “food flat” remark, you missed the point of my statement. If you load it full of people, third row and all, then you have no room for stuff. I see this type of nonsense all the time. People want the look but don’t think about real usability and function. That’s all I’m going to say about it because these type of vehicles are not for folks like me anyway.

  23. I don't think it's a gimmick. If you're ordering that you know there will be occasions where it'll come in handy and you don't feel like buying and driving the next size vehicle up. I can't see anybody buying that expecting to use it on a regular basis but if you have young kids and know there will be times where you have to move a friend or two, this would be completely fine. Plus, it folds flat so you're really not losing any space. Size-wise, it is similar to a Tiguan which also offers a 3rd row of seats, fwiw.

  24. You forgot to mention less reliable (which is the biggest selling point of the RX btw) and in a smaller class of CUVs (the RX is 11 inches longer). Guess you can add less room than the RX as well. That has to make me wonder. Why does a shorter CUV even bother with a third row seat? Should make human heads happy but I can’t imagine anything larger than that wanting to occupy that small space (thinking older Highlander 3rd row here which was equally unusable).

  26. I think Ford will probably end up using the new Explorer/Lincoln platform for the Mustang. It would be dumb for any company to release a new unibody platform that does not lend itself well to multiple body types (sedan/CUV etc).
    1 point
  27. That doesn't mean a RWD unibody couldn't be shares across four brands. The Aviator's platform is shares with the new Explorer in the same way.

  28. Not if Rivian has a "Find a Friend" app on their Rivian app store. These are supposed to be "lifestyle" vehicles, non?

  29. Yeah... except they don;t sell the Escala. They sell the CT5 with a Mazda nose and a Honda Accord C-Pillar which copies, of all things, the stupid ipad on the dash design of unimaginative car interiors. They stuff it with a pair of WEAK SAUCE engines which took a great leap backwards in performance compared to the previous generation despite heaps of complexity and technology like the Tri-Power cam switching valve train.

  33. The new Lincoln Aviator is RWD. Why won't Cadillac build a RWD unibody crossover since the death knell of the original SRX? Mercedes and (especially) BMW sell RWD CUVs all the time. Certainly, given the current Cadillac lineup, there is room for a RWD CUV NOT named Escalade (which is a RWD BOF SUV).

  39. Yes, Road Trips, Grocery Shopping, Drive it anywhere and everywhere. As one who I agree with that the Auto Industry has lost its style. Why not bring some of these smooth flowing machines back as modern day EVs. Air should flow around this with minimal resistance. It's own unique sound with the constant torque pulling experience.
