  1. Less strenuous home improvement project today: painted the door from garage into the house and added a new lock set. Didn't feel I needed a deadbolt, so I gave it up and installed a blank plate over the hole. Turned out nice. I've had the new lockset for prolly 2 years, decided to use my vacay to actually get things DONE.

  2. I sat in G70 at auto show last year and couldn't believe how small the rear seat is. Otherwise it looked inside and outside really nice. However, rear seat would be a deal breaker for me if I was looking for a sporty sedan. It terms of driving feel, where do you think it stands vs the competition?

  3. if it's larger, it weighs more. It HAS to weigh more. You know the struggles of high performance with additional weight. All three hyper cars I posted are hybrids, if you didn't know.

  5. To be fair to Buick. Buick is gonna be adding to and refreshing their US portfolio in the next 2-3 years. "Exciting" new (CUV) product. 2 EVs. A couple of new models. One thing that we cant be pissy about with Buick is that at least the interior quality of their vehicles is Buick worthy.

  7. To the smarta** in the back, I mean @ocnblu. Autocorrect fail that I didn’t catch in time. Since you were so concerned, it should have read 2012 CAMARO ZL1. Thank you for your continued concern and support. You may now resume hugging your Donald Trump life size cut out. Two things. First, the CT5-V is not the same top trim (power wise) as the previous gen CTS sedans, so that is a pointless comparisons. When the Blackwing comes out, then you its apples to apples. Second, like the last CTS-V, there isn’t a time for the CT5-V so again, your hypothetical bar moving means nothing.

  8. Where exactly you heard bad things about these crossovers? I am just curious, any examples? Unless you read European magazines or have been to Europe and rented them how would you know anything about them?

  9. Well, today I ripped out old carpet and pried up old tack strips in my living room. Also cleaned out and organized my garage (thanks for all the hard work and help, Mom.) Then hauled it all to the dump very carefully. It is so handy to own a pickup truck! Oh, and I had professional help with my kitchen sink plumbing. Things are shaping up around this joint... still got a lot to do, as homeowners know, there is always a project or plan. Want to paint the living room and choose new flooring next, too many good choices out there, need to keep to a strict budget. I am thinking hard floors, so I can plug in the leaf blower and go to town, instead of vacuuming.

  10. It has been a moment since any new vehicle has rolled into the garage at Cheers & Gears' Detroit office. A combination of a review backlog and COVID-19 messing up everything in the world made me put requesting vehicles for evaluation on the back burner. But with backlog finished and COVID-19 currently at a lull here in the state, I thought it was time to put a request in. The first vehicle in this run is the 2020 Genesis G70 3.3T Sport. To break it down, this is Genesis' entry-level model in the lineup packing a very potent twin-turbo 3.3L V6 with 365 horsepower - the same one found in the Kia Stinger GT and Genesis G80 Sport I have driven previously. As-tested, this G70 rings in at $51,245. Some first impressions: Surprised at how well this sedan handles when in the comfort mode. Not too much body roll and the steering having some heft. Wondering if this is due to the optional Sport Package. One of the tightest back seats I have experienced in a compact luxury sedan. Small gap for my head and knees almost touching the back of the seat. I think the former Cadillac ATS and Lexus IS are the smallest still, but the G70 isn't running to far behind. The Serbian Ice exterior paint color changes shade depending on if you're in the sun or shade. Can change from a white to a light gray. I'll have more updates as the week goes on. If you have any questions in the meantime, drop them below and I'll try my best to answer them. One more thing; either this weekend or early next week. I'll be doing a state of the review where I'll talk about the current state of reviews and what I have planned for down the road. Also, I'll be talking about which brands I currently have access to at this time. View full article

  12. Mostly, I get a kick of this newer vernacular of soccer slides and white socks. You can't be a white person and pull it off. When I was growing up, you wore white socks ... and maybe - BIG maybe - white ankle socks with tennis shoes, most of which were mainly white. If you wore dark socks with tennis shoes, you were out of style, nerdy, or possibly a German or Scandinavian tourist. Now, and especially in Europe, you wear dark socks with tennis shoes, which tend to be of many colors, and that includes dark ankle socks. I wish I could "get the memo" on these things on a timely basis. Therefore, it's easier to wear flip flops and avoid socks altogether when the weather is good. You won't be making any "mistakes" that way.

  15. its interesting you say that. The CT5 was supposed to provide more room and the front seat is super cramped. maybe if cadillac had put out roomy cars without cue touchscreen issues and timing chain issues in the 2010's they wouldn't be in the situation they are in now. it would also help to not have a bad c pillar design.

  20. ^ Too many variables. Size only generally equals weigh, and in automobiles, there is no "everything else being equal". I've read all sorts of wild guesses from folk who have no idea; "Gonna need a bigger trailer for the 1950 Chevy, it's gotta weigh over 5000 lbs!' Why; because it 'looks thick'? [A '50 Bel Air is 3225 lbs.]

  28. I should like (all) the McLaren models. But they bore me exterior wise. Like true British fashion, they are too reserved for my tastes. I love the fact that they are true engineering marvels. I love the fact that all the exterior design choices are purely engineering details. But I have a side of me that dictates that cars should be rolling pieces of art too. The thing about these 2000s McLarens, to me at least, is that they evoke a similarity to Ferrari, but lack that Italian flair... therefore becoming dull, unexciting rolling pieces of metal. Not much different than what Balthy is saying right here:

  29. My direct next door neighbor is Romanian (Moldova) new to Canada. Has moved here about 15 years ago. He and his wife married in Moldova and moved to Montreal when their (only) son was 2 years old. (Hold still please...there is a point to the story...) We have been great neighbors to each other for 11 years now. We both bought our houses new at the same time. (just a little bit longer, this back story IS important, I promise) OK...when we first started talking to each other, we introduced ourselves, our backround, etc... We INSTANTLY connected because of our European and religious background. Greek Orthodox... And...well, Romanians although closer ethnically to Romans (Italians and the Roman Empire and hence Romanians as their name), culturally they more identify with Greece and of course our shared religion. (That might not have been necessary, sorry, but I like telling stories...) OK...the thing is, him being European, American cars get a bad bad rap. He never once saw an American car BEFORE moving to Canada, he didnt even know that Opel was a General Motors brand... but that never stopped him in having a negative opinion on American cars... When he needed to replace his old used Honda Civic he bought when he first came to Canada, and the Civic wasnt even THAT old 10 years ago, he asked me for car advice. This is where I found out his opinions on American cars. We talked for a good 3 days on the subject in a row. Anyway...long story short, less long, he took my advice and bought a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. He was impressed with it. He tried all other CUVs of that time but the Equinox was the one he like the best. He and his wife liked GM so much that 6 months later, he bought a Chevrolet Cruze. Well, he still has those cars. The Cruze has very low mileage while the Equinox has 175 000 trouble free miles. He just bought a new vehicle. He is keept the Equinox for his son. as his son is reaching driving age... Anyway...he bought a 2020... Cadillac XT5. He thanked me for making him keep an open mind regarding American cars. he told me all other CUVs in that price range, and like the Equinox, he was most impressed with the Cadillac... Now...4 things. 1. In a perfect world, yes, GM, Ford, Honda, Toyota, Mercedes etc..., would like for repeat business and it does happen 2. But In 2020, with more and more people leasing and all kinds of competition around with every year, NEW generations of vehicles come out practically with all this competition around, its very hard for brand loyalty to exist. We are a loooong way out from the 1950s and 1960s... repeat business and moving on up is NOT the norm. Its not a question of Chevrolet or Honda NOT doing their job if in 10 years time, an owner does NOT buy a Buick or Acura and moves unto something else... There are tooooo many choices out there for people to pass up on... 3. When one has an open mind, one actually sees that American cars, and especially GM, have been making at the very least, cars that are on par with foreign competition, if not better. My neighbor, didnt buy an American car because I told him to. I told him to go out and shop around. He did. He bought what was best for him, his family and his pocket. All three times in the last 10 years with good advice from his unbiased neighbor. I didnt tell him American cars are good. I told him American cars WERE good at one time. Then American cars got shyte. But no different from European cars. But then I told him...and this was DURING and RIGHT AFTER GM's bankruptcy, that GM is no longer the stereotypical GM of where he got his negative opinions from. Remember, the Cruze and the Equinox of the time were products DIRECTLY resulting BEFORE and DURING this crisis... The XT5 also...to a degree... He told me about his Cadillac purchase, that he has talked to other BMW and Mercedes owners... Lexus owners. He didnt ask me about how I feel about today's Cadillac. He talked to other people... He didnt tell me what those other folks told him about their Bimmers and Mercedes and Lexus... He just told me he crossed shopped the Caddy and like the Caddy best. And BECAUSE he had such a pleasant ownership time with those Chevys, he decided to stay with the GM family... I had a pleasant ownership time with my 2005 Chevy. I JUMPED ship 4 times removed from GM since 2005. I bought a 2007 Ford for my wife. I replaced that with a 2009 Mazda. And I replaced that with a 2013 Ford. Its too early to tell what vehicle my lovely lady wants next... And I myself DIRECTLY replaced my Chevy with an Acura. When time comes to replace either current vehicle, we wont be necessarily staying with the same family, nor jumping ship. Meaning, its not how you said it, the brands NOT doing their job for keeping brand royalty. Its more about shopping around. Its the SMARTEST thing to do. There are many facets to my anecdotal story. I hope someone could benefit from it. If not....a waste of time it may be. So be it...

  34. I dig this actually...pretty cool. but the idiocy of it (typical GM idiocy in a higher dose this time) is to not have it ready until 2 years from now, and also, it really would help Cadillac a lot more to make it ICE engine and sell it as the XT7. twin turbo six standard. Blackwing v8 twin turbo OHC optional. I'd change the rear side window a bit and wrap the tailights a bit differently but I sort of dig what they are getting at....trying cool things. Front lighting is way cool.

  36. Will agree to disagree as Toyota and Honda have a Perception of better reliability but far from it on appliance auto's. Have seen plenty of crap from those companies and I will agree with the term Sheep seem to be lazy in taking care of their auto's. Sheep need to drive EV's as they DO NOT want to deal with maintenance and taking car of their appliance auto's. American auto's have not been perfect and have built some crap models, yet even the crap models can go long distance when owners follow the maintenance schedule. THIS is where the Sheep fail as their own laziness about oil changes, lubing points, brakes, etc. ended up giving them a broken down auto. If you look at the Asian auto's who went in the 80's to 100,000 mile tune ups and 7,500 mile oil changes compared to American auto companies who stuck with 30K tune ups and 3K oil changes and the sheep choose to NOT do the required maintenance, yes those autos failed. Yes American Auto companies Executives screwed the public for profits, but then you find this in every company even Asian or German. End result is YOU and YOU alone the OWNER of the auto are responsible for reading the owners guide, following the defined maintenance schedule and paying for those things. This is the BITCH I have had all along on people who BITCH about American auto's and talk about their appliance Asian auto going 100,000 miles and have never cracked the owners guide. Asian Auto's build for a sheep society. As one who went to College and graduated from Kobe University, Kobe Japan, I can attest first hand to this Sheep mentality. This build it to have less maintenance took the American auto industry almost 20 years to get caught up to the Asian auto's. You have a choice in this world, be a sheep and follow the crowd or take care of your stuff, look at what is required to take care of it and blaze your own path. Choice is all YOURS!

  38. They sold the 405 sedan in the US through 1991. Though I don't recall seeing many...I think I saw a few in the early-mid 90s in the Boston area, and then in the late 90s in Denver. And Buick is at a dead end in NA now, just peddling generic CUVs that have nothing special over the generic CUVs sold by Chevy and GMC..

  39. It doesn't look good, the front looks too much like a Chevy Blazer and the rear end is all messed up. But it is a concept too, so we'll have to see what the production car looks like, and all the interior images they showed were simulated, so we can't really be sure yet how that will look. Would be nice to have heard more specs, like horsepower or performance beyond a targeted 300 mile range. Seems like this will be a 2023 model, so it is a ways off. I don't know why they would show their hand that far out, and I think what they have isn't better than what Tesla was selling a couple years ago.
