  1. Three completely different driving styles, roughly the same results: Picture it, Sicily, 1922.... No wait... Pennsylvania, 2020... Myself in the Toronado and a new Jeep Compass in front of me at the light. To my right, an Audi S5. The light changes and the Compass takes off quickly, not flooring it, but being aggressive. I'm right behind him, flooring it just to keep up. (it's a sharp uphill slope) The S5 is just cruising effortlessly next to both of us without a care in the world. Three different throttle positions, same speed and acceleration achieved. I really like the Aviator inside and out. It's on the short list for an Encore replacement in a few years unless we find a perfect S90 in the meantime.

  6. A lot of talk about car interiors on Random Thoughts today and, as I'm getting something to eat at Mickey D's, I see a newer Lexus with a burgundy interior ... and a feisty dog inside. Decent enough burgundy inside, in leather. It was a Lexus IS 350 AWD, once I got behind it in the drive through. The sun was obviously setting. I made a noise to the dog. I thought it was a lab. When it turned toward me, it had a white patch below the collar. Not a pure lab. Dogs are like little kids. They get rambunctious when riding around in the car.

  7. Next up on the review vehicle playlist here at C&G's Detroit Bureau is the 2020 Toyota 86, a vehicle I haven't driven since it was called the Scion FR-S. A lot has changed with this model aside from its name since the one I drove back in 2013. The styling has been refreshed, various tweaks made the suspension, and minor updates to the interior. What hasn't changed is the 2.0L boxer-four from Subaru that produces 205 horsepower and 156 pound-feet of torque. My test vehicle has the standard six-speed manual. The as-tested price for this 86 comes to $34,783, partly due to a couple of TRD options being fitted. Here's some first impressions, The 2.0L boxer-four isn't a great sounding to begin with, sounding like a bucket of bolts being shaken. The optional TRD exhaust only makes the noise worse. Handling is still this car's strong suit, offering minimal body roll and crisp steering. The touchscreen radio is very barebones, but does offer Apple CarPlay. I'll have more thoughts throughout the week, and will be doing my best to answer various questions from you. View full article

  8. Gauge pod section of B-59 speedometer, about 18" wide and white, or 'pot' metal. Got a quote to have it rechromed. Any guesses?

  9. Updated styling, new radio and climate controls, improved instrument cluster, changes to the suspension, and others. Does surprisingly well off the line, where it lacks is in the mid-range Tough as you need to plan and bear in mind you'll be wondering where all of the power went in the mid-range Some aspects are better, will need to spend more time to fully answer that. The driving experience, not everyone wants something that is stupid fast. See also the Miata.

  10. Excellent read on how focused training allows Sales people on auto lots to sell 10 times more EV's. The focus of a sales person is to direct a potential buyer to an auto they understand and can sell quickly to get their commission and move onto the next sell. A study was done starting in 2017 to figure out how to better sell EV's. There are now kiosks that help explain the biggest question of buyers, EV charging and how the various different chargers work. Charge away kiosk helps potential buyers in more than just where chargers are located, by also answering basic questions to help educate the public about EVs. https://chargedevs.com/newswire/startup-chargeway-launches-kiosks-to-showcase-ev-charging-options/ This secret sauce allows people to plan and feel better about road trips, time to recharge an EV, etc. Breaking down the type of chargers and where they are greatly helps people decide. Green for Nissan Leaf, Red for Tesla and Blue for those that follow the CCS standard. This was especially helpful in that this software company and Charging infrastructure supplier realized the challenge for dealerships where turn over of 50% a year in sales is very common. The kiosk helps the sales folks get up to speed on selling EV's very fast. This became true as the company grew and started to put the Kiosks in dealerships that actually had inventory of EV's. Sales increased from 2 to 10 times greater turn over. Story for reading is here, the full report will be published in September. https://chargedevs.com/features/shoppers-buy-more-evs-if-they-understand-charging-and-now-theres-proof-exclusive-first-look/ Deliveries are starting for the VW ID.3 as the first 700 just got off loaded in Norway where they will launch the sales of VW ID.3 in Europe in what is currently one of the largest EV markets around.

  12. $34k and it doesn’t have any power and it isn’t very nice inside, so what do you get for all that money? Also there are 6 cylinder cars with 400 hp putting out 21/28 mpg or even beating that number.

  19. @Robert Hall @surreal1272 @oldshurst442 @riviera74 @ccap41 @balthazar @ocnblu Have to say that VW ID.4 production EV that leaked out in China looks good. Close to the concept. Not a bad looking EV CUV.

  21. Yeah, this was served by Enterprise though I rented through National. I always rented National because I was their super executive elite top tier renter since I typically had 50-60 rentals a year. I've always found Enterprise's customer service to be terrible, even here in the states, while National has always been exceptional and done everything possible to keep my business. My last rental with National back in March I had reserved a Malibu... I ended up in a brand new loaded X3 for the same price. Drove it to Florida and back for $260~. They lost money on that one.

  22. ALERT: GM moved their Corvette Engineering Team to the EV Team. This could signal the shift for a performance focused Electric Corvette. There is a much smaller team left on the ICE Corvette, but it seems that the future will focus on Electric. https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1129406_chevy-corvette-engineers-moved-to-ev-team-at-gm
