It seems you are the one that usually makes things personal if someone disagrees with your opinion. Going right away to name calling like an angry 12 year old (seems to me I told you that already once or twice ...). @ocnblu has his strong opinion about EVs in general and this particular BMW. No reason to make it personal if he disagrees with you. I do agree that BMW is not anymore "The Ultimate Driving machine", and hasn't been that in a long while. Now they are becoming the ultra techno company that makes ugly electronic high end appliances.4 points

That's the most civil and under rated response I've seen on C and G in 16 years here. You are quite polite, sir. Ms. Lauper gets it right. This is exactly correct. As always, the voice of reason and reality. Have a great weekend, Mark.3 points

People can get overly emotional and personal in conversation about consumer products. I really haven't liked BMW since the early 00s. The era of the E36, E38, E39, E46 was a high point for the company as far as the 'Ultimate Driving Machine' ethos, IMO. BMW's product has become more powerful, faster, heavier, far more complex, far less reliable, and less serious as far as driver involvement since then..3 points

I just bothered to watch the BMW commercial vid in the opening post. Wow. That's easily the worst ad for an automotive product I've ever seen. Run a string of biting, negative commentary from (assumedly) real people, meanwhile attempting to dispell that criticism with smug, knowing smiles from paid actors. GREAT JOB, Bimmer!3 points

'Benzinga' (whatever that is) is reporting the Rivian pricing this morning. Seems Rivian will initially offer a 'launch edition' of the 2 trucks, but unlike the full boat Hummer Edition One, it's not a max spec version. Equipped with a middling 300 mile range battery pack, the R1T pickup will start at a commanding $75,000, while the R1S will be $77,500. Re-using the old Ford moniker; the "Explorer" is stated to start at $67,500, whereas the swiped Dodge (nee DeSoto) moniker "Adventurer" will be $77,500. Apparently these are trim levels. Around January of 2022, 250 mile range and 400 mile range variants will be available. It's curious that the 400 mile pack wasn't part of the 'launch edition', and that will undoubtedly be many thousands more in base price. - - - - - It shouldn't be necessary to again point out, but manufacturers and pundits all in on the fantasy that EV trucks will quickly replace IC trucks that start up to $30 grand cheaper, aren't being aware of how the existing consumer market functions. At these prices, these are niche products, not mainstream.2 points

I've driven a Tesla Model S (once, it was enough) and plenty of Prius. So who lied to you?1 point

^ Is that from GoT? - - - - - People should speak for themselves, not project their beliefs / narrative on others. The concept that a person is "afraid" of a given Thing simply because their preference is elsewhere is wildly erroneous, and it's projection. I'm not afraid of Volvos because I prefer Pontiacs & Buicks, I just have no use or appreciation for volvos.1 point

Sorry. I will take what Cadillac is offering in terms of BEVs. That BMW is more cartoonish than ever, regardless of whether it is a BEV or an ICE SAV. Who hired their stylists and designers?1 point

Not sure what browser you are using, but if you're on Firefox, you can either right click the link and open in an Incognito tab or change your security settings to Strict for those concerns (the second option might break certain websites like C&G where you log in). Edge and Chrome you can set InPrivate mode to be strict browsing as well.1 point

@A Horse With No Name Uruguay is rated highly on those retirement lists among the South American countries. It has a lot of good things going for it - relative stability, progressive thinking, good health care, and the highest literacy rate on that continent. I know that they rank Costa Rica (have never been) highly, but it's Central America, and not South America, and, when you start reading more and more, it has its hazards. - - - - - My real random thought upon logging in this morning: I wonder what Lorena and John Bobbitt are up to these days ...1 point

I really want to visit this part of south America, and would love to retire there. It has a huge romantic appeal to me.1 point

This looked familiar, in a general way, because of the trees (pines) in the background and the word Barra (not Mary). Barra de Maldonado is close to beautiful Punta del Este, one of the better known resorts in South America and a mecca for people from Buenos Aires with money. Punta del Este (UY) is one of the coolest places I've been to. Uruguay and Argentina may be in South America, but it feels more like being in Europe Punta del Este, Uruguay: This is the actual point (punta) - "downtown" Punta del Este jutting out to its point - to the left (east) is the Atlantic and to the right (west) is the Rio de la Plata ... all those cool homes would be about 5 and 10 miles up, mostly going up along the road fronting the Atlantic side. I will never forget this place.1 point

That's how it is currently pronounced in southern Europe. First heard it some 5 to 10 years ago across the pond, when pointing and laughing, "Look, there's a Subaru dealership."1 point

Not whining. Wishing to return to topic. Comply dammit. The car is weird. The aesthetic is not SERIOUS, like most BMWs, it is trying to be WHIMSICAL, and FAILING MISERABLY. We had an i3 in our shop recently... a shopping cart rolled into the liftgate... and being GLASS, it SHATTERED into a MILLION PIECES, allowing the TAILLIGHTS to DANGLE FROM THEIR WIRES (being loosely attached behind the tempered glass surface of the gate). The floor on the car is so high relative to the rocker panels, it is claustrophobic. Calling the BMW dealer for parts, it became clear they were glad to witness its extinction. Counting on one hand the number of ppl who even knew it existed in the first place.1 point

The other persons sarcasm sensor works just fine. Yours however, seems to be on the fritz as evidenced by your above response. Again, so “cerebral” lol. That’s sarcasm btw.1 point
-
Then no one owes you squat, hence the hypocrisy of you having a tantrum over the downvotes you’ve received. And please don’t flatter yourself. You are a lot of things but cerebral is not one of them. Oh and next time, be a man and quote the entire statement and not just select words to conflate whatever “cerebral” argument you are trying to make. It’s as boring as the BMW.1 point

Visit the Boutique store to try out the demo models I would guess. I agree as for me I have to sit in it and test it out before I will order an EV.1 point

Went to my local Ace Hardware this beautiful afternoon and actually had an in-person inside 'shopping experience' for the first time since February, even paid with 'cash' paper money instead of my usual online shopping w/ plastic. It was all strange and new, everyone masked up and 6 feet apart. But I had to do it, because sometimes the only way to find a very specific, strange sized lightbulb is to take the old one and compare with ones hanging on a wall (I was having no luck on Amazon). Now I have two new bulbs for my house number sign on the light post (the old bulbs had burnt out one-by-one since I've lived here). A tiny small, DIY victory amidst a really boring time working from home...1 point

lol! Okay. I live in Graham, which is a small town off I-85/40 between Greensboro and Raleigh. Some really good local breweries here though, ones that are surviving the COVID madness, that is. And Hendersonville is way out there (3-4 hours west of me). Had to tow a car three hours to a place right outside of town there. Very quiet and peaceful out there though. (Elon Musk hands joint to Ford Execs and says "F it! Just randomly change the engine on them when they pick a certain color!")1 point

Over all, I love the EV powertrain, interior is not bad, but I do have some concerns about the metal piece in the center of the head rest. Exterior is not bad over all except for the MASSIVE SPINKTER on the front of the auto. WTF BMW! ?1 point
