Did an XT6 test drive this past weekend. Will get a short writeup up in reader reviews in the next couple days. too bad it’s pricing is sooo out of whack It’s likable otherwise ??5 points

The real issue with the XT6 (and probably the XT5 as well) is that neither of them have an interior worthy of Cadillac. The Escalade interior should be in both the XT5 and XT6 sooner rather than later. BTW, the 350/400 numbers on the back of the XT4 and XT5 and XT6 refer to torque, not horsepower. It's a terrible gimmick, given that the number on the back used to refer to engine size with c.i. or c.c.3 points

I recall seeing XT6s at the auto show back in Feb or March, but I don't recall seeing one on the road..but 2020 was a strange year and I was on the road very little.3 points

Totally agree with you, I have NEVER seen any marketing for the Cadillac XT6. I talked back in November when I got the oil change done on my Escalade and my sales rep informed me he was retiring due to the pandemic and decided to stay safe in the woods. I asked him how the XT6 was doing and he said that they had sold maybe 6 for all of 2020 at the time compared to the dozens of XT5 and Escalades over the year. Problem he saw was that people seem to like many other options out there better than the XT6 and the interior. He said which I agree with that the fit n finish is good but GM did not give it the luxury level that people are expecting for the price. In fact he said the weird part is people have a better luxury impression of a Denali equipped CUV over the XT6 as his sister GMC/Buick store was selling gang busters all they could get of CUVs. It is sad as while I was excited for when Cadillac talked about it, was disappointed when I actually saw it and the rushed job to just get it to market and have another niche filled with a product. GM needs to stop doing this if they want Cadillac to grow. Focus on the Luxury and let GMC/Buick fill in all the Niche areas for appliance sizes.3 points

This is one of my favorite tool logo's, Delta.... I like their older logo better though. Even older Delta Logo. I love the Eagle on older Oliver tools. My badge on my lathe and 18 inch bandsaw will look this good when i am done restoring them. I guess I really live in an analog world, as opposed to the digital world that Robert Hall lives in...2 points

I really am a huge New York Central fan, loved their old logos. They went away in 1968 with the merger with the Pennsylvania to form Penn Central. I am also a sucker for the similar Powermatic logo. I have a model 100 planer, similar machine to the one the above name plate is attached to, it dates to 1955, its a beast, runs perfectly. I don't like thier modern logo nearly so much. Big fan of the old Soo Line logo as well... Love the Nickel Plate Road logo as well.2 points

The new numbering system will make more sense for EVs than the current ICE product. Cadillac should stay with C.I. or C.C. and leave the Torque to the EVs.2 points

It is..that is part of why I left there for more cosmopolitan Denver...beautiful place, though. I didn't realize it was so conservative when I moved there, but it was quite a change from Ann Arbor where I moved from. Boulder would have been a good fit for me, but it's become obscenely expensive to live there now.2 points

@Robert Hall I will say that both the Cisco and Sun Microsystems logos are cool. It would have been a huge marketing gaffe if Cisco had instead gone with Frisco.2 points

Sales guy said it's becoming their best selling model now that people are finding out. Must be why Caddy did a whack job on the XT5 to add the 3rd row. I liked it, except engine options are only the 3.6 and the interior is not really Cadillac level in certain colors and trims. There actually was a used new Aviator on their lot at the same time i went and took a look at and for sure the Aviator presents way nicer and has that 400hp v6. I look at it as if you want an Acadia sized vehicle but don't want an Acadia because its frumpy, and because there is no third row Blazer, the XT6 is by default the 'GM fans mid sized deluxe three row'. Not a bad thing really, some folks don't want a BMW or something douchey like that. The ride and handling i really liked. It was the sport version. Quick steering. With another 50 horsepower it would be quite the stealthy thing. I was actually good on interior materials, just that it has that old XT5 dash and console, so its dated when it comes out. Otherwise, it's just kind of 'there'. Not an object of desire, really. Pretty good for empty nesters and retirees.2 points

The ursla pop up tent top for the Wrangler is really cool but a bit pricey. That would be my chouice. Or get a Hiker trailer, they are about five grand well equippeed and coudl easily be towed by your GC.2 points

Nope when @ccap41 posted about it, I looked into it and found many posts of people getting their CUE system updated with the latest release 22.10. Depending on which model year you have since only in the last 2 years has Cadillac started to change over to WiFi updates, older Cadillacs that have CUE have to go in for a USB flash and currently the CUE is at version 22.10. I am surprised myself at 22 actual full update versions and of course the .10 is a minor update. Yes CUE is at version 22.10. This is one of many stories that I think confused people as Cadillac killed their in house CUE and then bought and brought in software designers who actually knew how to build a system, so yes it is still CUE, but night and day from what was CUE 1.0 that came out in 2012 as a 2013 model year. 2017 is when they killed off the existing one and moved everyone onto the new CUE that is not CUE. Still going strong 9 years later. Cadillac's CUE is dead, meet the new CUE that isn't CUE (motorauthority.com)2 points

Olds actually saw sales rise quite a bit in '99 but long-term, that's correct. Didn't Olds announce discontinuation in '00 tho? That didn't help that year or the next 4 much. RE the supposedly ironclad accord, it's down 42% from it's peak and 31% just since 2014. It used to sell 4 times the Malibu, in '19 it only sold twice the Malibu.2 points

Oldsmobile replaced the 88 and 98 with the Aurora in 1995 and replaced the Cutlass Supreme with the Intrigue in 1998. New names did not end the sales slide with Olds until it was terminated in 2004. Yes, GM (Cadillac aside) has largely abandoned sedans for SUVs and CUVs because sedan sales have tanked for the last 5-7 years. Yes, Boomers do NOT want to stoop down to a sedan because of bad hips and bad knees. A whole lot of younger buyers followed for their own reasons. Amazingly, minivan sales have not completely tanked despite Ford and GM leaving that market about ten years ago. Yes, the Impala has already died and the Malibu will soon join it. As long as there is a Trax, an Equinox, and a Traverse, Chevrolet will be fine. Same with the BOF trucks and SUVs. One day (probably in at least a decade or two), sedans may return to some popularity. Then again, the CUV seems to have displaced if not completely replaced the family sedan, possibly for good.2 points

It has not been an easy go for the organizers of the Detroit Auto Show. Last year, they had to cancel the revamped show due to concerns about the growing COVID-19 pandemic. The hope was to launch the indoor-outdoor event that would sprawl various parts of Detroit for 2021. But with COVID-19 still a major issue, organizers this afternoon announced the 2021 version would be canceled. Automotive News reports that a new, outdoor program called Motor Bella will take its place from September 21st to 26th at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac - about 40 minutes north of Detroit. The new program "will bring next-generation mobility and exciting vehicle debuts to media, show-goers and the automotive enthusiasts," according to a statement released by the Detroit Auto Dealers Association (DADA) - the organizers of the show. Plans are to have "1.6 million square feet of dynamic vehicle and technology display space," along with the 1.5-mile road course for technology and vehicle demonstrations. “The pandemic has caused changes in our society and world in ways not previously imagined, and we all should be looking for new and highly creative ways of doing business. This new event captures that creative spirit. It will provide new mobility experiences and increasingly innovative approaches to tapping into the industry and its products," said Rod Alberts, executive director of DADA. Motor Bella was originally planned to be a festival for European supercars that would take place with the updated Detroit Auto Show. "With our new program for 2021, we will take the Motor Bella concept to the next level with multiple brands and mobilities represented, from hometown to international nameplates, autonomous vehicles to high-performance supercars, and everything in between, It will be a mobility-filled event. One that will provide our show partners with a cost-efficient backdrop to share all of their brands, products and technologies in a fun and festival-like atmosphere that's completely outdoors," said event chairman Doug North. There are some big questions that face organizers. Will they be able to get the revamped Detroit Auto Show launched for 2022, or will Motor Bella take the place? Plus, will COVID-19 be a point where all of us can go this event safely? Source: Automotive News (Subscription Required), DADA New All-Outdoor Motor Bella at M1 Creates Bridge to the Future While North American International Auto Show Pauses for 2021 TROY, Mich. – (January 11, 2021) – The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) today announced it will not hold its 2021 auto show as planned. Instead, show officials revealed a "bridge to the future" with an auto-centric event called Motor Bella. The new event will bring next-generation mobility and exciting vehicle debuts to media, show-goers and the automotive enthusiasts' world in a never before experienced way while also addressing continued COVID-19 concerns about indoor events. Motor Bella will be held from Sept. 21-26, 2021, at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Mich. Centrally located in the metro Detroit area, M1 Concourse, often referred to as an "87-acre playground for auto enthusiasts," enables exhibitors to showcase key vehicles and technologies in an outdoor setting. Plans call for 1.6 million square feet of dynamic vehicle and technology display space including terrain ideal for showcasing off-roading capabilities. M1 Concourse also offers a 1.5-mile hot track on the grounds for technology and vehicle demonstrations. "The pandemic has caused changes in our society and world in ways not previously imagined, and we all should be looking for new and highly creative ways of doing business," said Executive Director Rod Alberts. "This new event captures that creative spirit. It will provide new mobility experiences and increasingly innovative approaches to tapping into the industry and its products." Alberts said attendees can expect a multi-sensory experience at the new event. "This all-outdoor venue, with adrenaline-pumping track activities and a full complement of OEM and technology exhibits, is going to offer the sights, sounds and even the smell of all that the new world of mobility has to offer." As auto shows around the world are being reimagined and will continue to do so in the wake of the pandemic, NAIAS had been reimagining its position for some time. "While auto shows remain an important platform to promote new mobility innovations and to help people make major vehicle purchase decisions, the traditional auto show model is changing," Alberts said. "We cannot ignore the major disruptions caused by the pandemic and the impact it has had on budgets. As such, we will be providing an amazing experience to the media, the auto industry and the public in a cost-effective way." Event Chairman Doug North noted that the M1 Concourse was envisioned as part of the 2021 Motor Bella activities, so it was "a natural progression" to build upon it in light of the growing demand for experiential mobility shows and an increased appetite for outdoor events as a result of the pandemic. Motor Bella was originally conceived as a celebration of Italian and British supercars and classic vehicles and was to have debuted at the June 2020 NAIAS. "With our new program for 2021, we will take the Motor Bella concept to the next level with multiple brands and mobilities represented, from hometown to international nameplates, autonomous vehicles to high-performance supercars and everything in between," North said. "It will be a mobility-filled event. One that will provide our show partners with a cost-efficient backdrop to share all of their brands, products and technologies in a fun and festival-like atmosphere that's completely outdoors." Jordan Zlotoff, CEO of M1 Concourse, said, "We are proud and honored to be hosting this world-class automotive event. Motor Bella will allow journalists, industry executives and the public to interact with vehicles in a fully dynamic and experiential format, well beyond the limitations of static displays. As the largest Private Garage community in the world, we at M1 Concourse share the enthusiasm for creating a unique automotive environment built specifically for car enthusiasts." North added, "We see this outdoor experience at M1 as a bridge to the future. One that will continue to evolve as we explore new ways of presenting mobility and as we navigate through these unprecedented times. We are very cognizant of the importance and impact our show and our events have on the state and the entire metro Detroit area. This will always be part of our considerations for the future." Dates for the 2021 Motor Bella are: Press Preview, Tuesday, Sept. 21 AutoMobili-D, Tuesday, Sept. 21 through a half-day Thursday, Sept. 23 Industry Preview, Wednesday, Sept. 22 and a half-day Thursday, Sept. 23 Public Show, Thursday, Sept. 23 through Sunday, Sept. 261 point

I'm partial to Sun Microsystems, I've owned a few of their workstations, used them throughout the 90s, they created the Java programming language that I've used for 25 years, and had a couple job offers from them in the 90s (that w/ 20/20 hindsight, should have taken). I put in the MCI Worldcom logo because that is where I started my career, was at MCI before Worldcom bought them...good times in Colorado Springs in the late 90s.1 point

At the core, they probably saw the XT5 sales declining no matter what they do with that, so the XT6 just simply gives that person with the XT5 something to trade into or re-lease....just like the XT5 they had but with a 'new' twist. Yes they did just frankenstein it together.1 point

My wife and I did one 500 mile road trip, the North Cascade Loop. North Cascades Scenic Highway (scenicwa.com) We only stopped in a true Western Cowboy town, still has wood sidewalks, horse tie up posts, etc. Winthrop (Scenic Washinton | Best Small Towns in Washington | Winthrop) to use the bathrooms, otherwise we had all our food with us in the Escalade and only stopped at places where no one else was at to stretch legs and look at the beautiful scenery. Lucky for me the Escalade can make the loop on a single gas tank, so minimal people interaction there too. This is the kind of road trips we will do in 2021 planning to minimize any interaction with other people during this pandemic.1 point

As a Skin Cancer survivor, I know even while I was never a sun worshiper or fan of having sunny days, I am even more now of an avoider of the sun and lather on sun screen lotion even during cloudy bright days. Course Seattle has Drizzle 9 months of the year and as such, we are used to hiking, camping and playing in the drizzle no matter what the temp is, so I love it and it does not stop me from gardening or doing pretty much anything outside. I can respect everyone for enjoying the sun and less so the rain especially when you do not live in a place that has it often. Course the rain storms in Texas were crazy huge when they hit. Talk about flooding events.1 point

It's priced where it's slotted- between the XT5 and Escalade. And closer to the XT5 than the E, which is logical. What's 'out of whack' about it? Tho the pre-production buzz was that this was going to be an 'XT8' (with the Escalade being a 'XT10'), all the reviews I've watched on the XT6 seem to really like it. I've seen a few driving around by me.1 point

In some companies, that can be true. I've worked at plenty of companies that are much looser---where you only know the build is broken when you check out the code and try and build locally and it blows up (and the guy that checked in broken code is 12 time zones away). I'd hope the software used in cars is held to a high standard, but I know from experience much of what goes on in corporate America is hit and miss...1 point

My father is talking about shopping soon. He'd like a mid-sized CUV this time around, and he's had Buicks for decades. Envision is the perfect size he's looking for but he will NOT consider a built-in-China vehicle... so he's angling toward the Equinox (Encore too small, Enclave too large).1 point
