  7. He is blocked but, like you, I’ll look to see what asinine thing he has said and chime in accordingly. Tired of it being like everyone else is the problem and that we should just ignore him. How about he just act like an actual rational thinking adult? I’m guessing thats just asking too much though lol. Never, not once, said that you made it up. Not once. I was referring to Drew’s example and as such, that did not mean that yours wasn’t. The problem with your example though is that your think it’s indicative of a problem as a whole instead of the singular one off example it is. Learn to discern from the two before assuming intent.

  8. I did not like the short, short Riviera. It didn't look like a lot of bang for the buck. They rectified the issue and cleaned it up a few years later. The version available in '92 looked plenty fine. A parallel analogy holds for the Toronado.

  9. Got a bit of snow overnight, still coming down intermittently. But we got off pretty mildly compared to areas further east I believe. Neighbors appear to have a GMC Terrain in their driveway that I hadn't noticed before.

  10. OK, Yesterday was a long day for me, a bit tiring, but so worth it as my Endorphins are running high. Came home and made dinner, afterwards in cleaning up, I just crashed. As such, I will start by posting my projects I did. Friday, I finished up building my mobile dirt bin so that I can pour all my pot soil into it, then re-vitalize it for use in the spring again. So pictures are in completed product to the start of my lumber pile. Second Project was Saturday where I spent the day at my sisters house. Installed two wall mounts, then did in-wall wiring to have it very clean. First TV was a 55" Samsung for her workout room. Second TV was Samsung's Q80 76" TV in her Great Room with sound bar floating. Also did the in wall wiring and electrical. Both TVs are Hardwired Gigabit ethernet back to her switch in her laundry room where the core switch I installed and connected to her private modem and out to the internet.

  11. Why bother giving rational REAL WORLD examples to someone who just willingly ignores them? Substitute any of those parts for the word “battery”, and it becomes an entirely different argument for him. No. Your “arguments” are always bottom bunk, where they belong.
    3 points
  12. And you did a marvelous job of deflecting and missing the point entirely (like the battery reference), at the same time. And, unlike you, I keep my cars for longer than a year or two. This is my third car since 2008 so whatever “argument” you are trying to make, in your attempt to deflect, is just bunk. Pure bunk. And the laughter exists here because of your rather sad attempt to portray yourself as some kind of victim on this site.

  13. Not saying it WON'T happen, I agree with your whole post. I will continue to say it is not a GOOD thing. And I will continue to say it renders brands obsolete. It certainly weakens the argument that different brands are needed. This is gm. This is our life now. Get used to it. It is a complete erasure of all that came before, all the blood, sweat and tears, the champions, the icons, the men and women who believed in something. It's all gone virtual. Authenticity is a thing of the past. And with it, loyalty evaporates, because what am I loyal TO, exactly? If it's all the same, then I have no connection to it, no flag to fly. There can be no passion in this. It is completely sterile, it is a severance, a finality, a death, honestly. Now, before the same crew jumps up and points their fingers, I know this process has been going on for decades, but with the advent of EV it only hastens things. The 1973 trucks were, I believe, the prototypical experiment in diluting their brands, as Chevy and GMC were nearly identical, down to the engines. The 1975 H-bodies were an early example, as they all looked identical except for the tiniest of details. The Chevy engines in Oldsmobiles scandal was another. The difference is, customers SUED GM over that breach of trust. It MEANT something to people to save their money and buy an Oldsmobile over a Chevrolet. After that, GM's "corporate engine" disclaimer shielded them from people who had reason to be brand loyal. And with that, GM's market share began to dwindle. After cultivating it, encouraging it, nurturing it for decades before, General Motors rejected the idea of brand loyalty, and tried to instill corporate loyalty in its place. People were turned off by it. I will always remember this: when I was 14, and out working in the front fields of my grandparents' farm, I had an epiphany... General Motors would one day do away with all of their foundations, all of their building blocks... the brands that made them great. Everything they sell would be reduced to a simple GM badge. That vision chilled my teenage car crazy heart. And now it's really coming to pass.

  14. Lease end time on the Chrysler van. Looking at new 2021 Pacifica AWD. Lots of nice upgrades, particularly on interiors including a new console. Also considering but really not excited about, Traverse, Enclave, Blazer. Only giving them shade because its GM Card top off month. Funny thing is even with the top offs, the GM stuff is never the best deal. The XT6 I drove recently was nice, but its out of budget. In general I am rolling kind of anti-GM these days. Had a thought or two about an Explorer, but they are cheap inside, I wasn't a fan of how it drove and it's gotten some teething pains coming out of the gate with the new design. May look at 2022 Acura MDX when it hits the showrooms this week. The center console looks to have spoiled what may otherwise be an interesting vehicle. If i extend the lease I am told the new Grand Cherokee L will be available in a few months, but sales guy said the first ones out are almost all going to be top trim level versions. It looks nice but dimensionally its as large as a Traverse with not near as much interior space. 2021 Durango has massive improvements inside that may make it a big dark horse, if it saved $$$. Otherwise, I've never been a fan. VW Atlas or Cross Sport. Maybe last resort if a great deal were there. No intent to look at the overhyped Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride. Used low mile Ford Flexes are really great deals these days. May buy out current van, extend the lease also. Never been less excited about vehicle shopping in my life. Maybe because getting over Covid and my lethargy makes me not want to do much of anything.

  16. FINALLY MOPAR's acronym gets it right. Seeing that the internal combustion ENGINE is more of an engine rather than a motor and an electrc motor is well...a motor. MOPAR could now make sense! MOTOR PARTS indeed!

  18. Tim Kuniskis is saying that the Hellcat engine's time is almost up. https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a35381043/dodge-ceo-says-hellcat-v-8-dying/ Its not clear if the small Hemi's time has come, (but I wont be surprised that it too will go away), but the iron block, 6.2 liter, supercharged version is going to go away soon. And it WILL be replaced by battery packs and electric motors. This Gen E thing does have some drawbacks, I must admit. Bye Bye Love. Bye Bye Happiness! But...Im actually quite excited to see what those crazy folks over at Dodge have in store for us with Peugeot's electric motors and what they could accomplish with those under a Charger and Challenger name plate. Possibly even a new EV Viper? To compete with an EV Corvette? I came across this mash-up...I think its a GREAT choice of a mash-up of MJ and BO and BlackandWhite and GetoutofmydreamsGetintomycar. You know...FCA,Chryco, Grpoue PSA and it dont matter if its EV or ICE...its all a phoquing mash-up anyway

  20. Saint Sauveur, Quebec. In between 3 ski slopes. Saint-Sauveur, Mont Gabriel and Olympia. Saint Sauveur water park is at the Saint Sauveur mountain peak. Is the address if you wanna Google Map it. 226 Rue Principale, Saint-Sauveur, QC J0R 1R0 I used to go skiing at Saint-Sauveur often enough. The water park in the summer was a favorite too. My friends and I only passed by that church once as we were exploring the town as the church itself is out of the way from the ski slopes. It has quite a distinct presence and that is why I remembered it from the pic. Fond memories came flooding back to me. Thanks!

  24. What I find funny are the complaints about battery replacement and costs yet more and more ICE cars are using turbos that last about as long as your average battery and can cost thousands to replace. It was the main reason I decided against a used Eco-Boost Flex when I bought the one I have now. Loved the power but dreaded the potential costs of replacing a pair of turbos if they were to go out.

  25. I do like the new Vans...look a bit edgier, if I can say that about a minivan..... There are some choices out there...but nothing really stands out. Saw a new Bronco, felt a bit meh about it. But I think I need to really look one over at the dealership to decide.... Chances are if I’m not screwed over by the bad OC on the Equinox, we probably will keep that. If for no other reason as an extra car, mine, or my son’s ride... Kinda a bit that way myself. Think I need warmth, and a chance to work on my cars- and way less social media and politics.....

  28. Love that view of Denver. I like it more when the trees are greener and the photos feature City Park and its castle-like building in the foreground. Also, I'm thinking that photographers work their magic with the zoom feature to pull in the Front Range beyond and make it look closer than it really is. Love any view of the long bridges on US 1 on the Florida Keys and all that warm, turquoise water. Haven't been south of Miami for a very long time.

  29. That's interesting, because when I visit NYC or LA, one of the things I loath most is getting in a beat to crap but still operating Prius V or Escape Hybrid. They take those things right up to their regulated mileage limit and it's not the batteries that kill them. My sister managed to kill her first year Escape Hybrid.... by running it out of oil. Every car has the potential for drivetrain issues. I'm seeing lately how Hyundai/Kia and FCA are having problems with their 2.4s and having to do engine replacements due to catastrophic oil loss. (Yes I know that particular 2.4 is related between all three companies). As for her Pruis, you can get a reconditioned battery for like $900 plus install. If the car doesn't have over 200k miles, it would be worth it to pay for the replacement and then just sell it for a few grand. Even a 175k mile Pruis is worth about $5k and a 100k can fetch $12k - $15k. So throwing away as much as $15k to save $1,500 doesn't seem to make much financial sense to me. And no car company is trying to shed the planned obsolescence. They've gone exactly the opposite direction even on regular ICE cars. Honda and Toyota are just as guilty of it as GM and Ford. Ford, when asked what the upgrade path was for owners with Sync who wanted to go to Sync3, the direct quote from the executive was "Buy a new car...". But batteries aren't going to be what kills high mileage EVs, just like it isn't what kills high mileage Hybrids. When I needed to repair the cruise control for my CR-V, all I needed was the small plastic disk the cruise linkage would tug on, but the only way to get the replacement part from Honda was buying the entire throttle body for about $800. I ended up fixing it with a Dremel and some zipties instead.

  32. I need less stuff / junk! There's 6 bays here; 2 on the house (no room for autos), and 4 in the back ('40, '59, '64). Have been in 'purge mode' for about 2 years now, but it takes time. Making progress tho- I've thrown away (or sold) stuff this winter I've had for 30-40 years. Just tossed my pay stubs from '89-'00 in the wood stove last night. The 2500HD doesn't fit in any of the bays due to the mirrors (even folded). She's a big 'un. It's a 90-degree turn in for the Malibu, and while the Mrs. used to do that back in the day, that was before a 3rd vehicle was here (Jeep in the background) - it might be a 5-point turn with that there.

  33. They wont relabel it as Autopilot is a FANTASTIC brand name for that kind of feature, although it IS highly misleading. But Tesla does STATE quite CLEARLY that you, the driver, MUST have at least one hand on the wheel and be alert. Is it Supercruise though that there is a camera and sensor that records the driver's eyes and facial mannerisms to determine driver awareness? If Tesla's Autopilot feature does not do that, then maybe it should. But I do know the (Tesla ) car beeps at you if there is a prolonged time lapse when there is no hand on the steering wheel.

  36. Fair enough Olds! Sadly it seems Tesla is using their customers for Alpha, Beta and Release Candidate testing with sad loss of life due to idiots that hear Auto Pilot and think that watching a movie is more important than the only job they really having, getting form Point A to B safely. Agree, when a common sense sane person does their job, the so called Auto Pilot can work. Tesla really needs to relabel it and properly clearly state what it can and cannot do.

  38. We don’t know that Cadillac is profitable since GM doesn’t split out brand financials but I am sure they are. What Musk is banking on is getting to wheeler instead of selling a Model 3 for $50k and making no profit, getting that car to be a robo taxi and have it generate an income stream, and record all the data like how Google tracks web traffic and monetize that data. Then that Model 3 might generate $100k of revenue and he is now making $50k profit per car and he still owns the car until he takes it out of commission and recycles it into a new car and repeats the process.

  39. Not Tesla's fault for a certain stupid Tesla owner that decides to do everything else BUT drive their vehicle while the vehicle is in motion... We dont blame Ferrrari, Porsche, Chevrolet, Dodge , Lamborghini...hell, even Toyota for people going waaaaay over the speed limit with their fast cars and killing themselves and innocent people, now do we? But here we are, we blame Tesla for autopilot? Yeah..I know what Tesla marketed in the beginning with Autopilot including the name of it...but...let me repeat...we dont blame sports car makers for their marketing of go fast cars with awesome go fast stickers and monikers on their cars and when the drivers of those vehicles and up in a killing spree...so why here? Level 5 autonomous driving is not a thing nor will it ever be. Regardless what system is better and reacts faster predicting a possible accident, both systems require a hand on the wheel and the driver alert defeating the purpose of both Autopilot AND Supercruise. IF BOTH systems are used as an aid to prevent accidents while the driver is actually driving and being alert, then both systems are good enough... Anything else other than that, the driver is fooling himself with something both systems are NOT...which is autonomous driving...which both systems are not...

Depression is nothing to be ashamed of but like any illness needs to be addressed with medication and/or therapy with a good therapist. I am saying this out of brotherly love and not sarcasm. 44. That wasn't what I was saying at all. You (and likely he) have preconceived notions regarding EVs and will dream up as many reasons for why they won't work for you as @Davidcan dream up reasons why he can't fit in the front seat of something. What I was saying was that if you wrote down his primary wishes in a vehicle (Good git'up, good economy, good reliability), an EV Equinox would suit his needs just fine. A 1.5T mid-range Equinox is just one QuietTuning away from being a sensory deprivation chamber as it is. Listening to that 1.5 making the sausage is not an experience improvement.
